View 10 RepliesI have a MacBook Pro (MBP) with OSX 10.5.6. I use Logitech Bluetooth (BT) mouse and it works OK under OSX.
However, in Boot Camp running Windows XP SP2, the scroll wheel does not work. Everything else, like left and right buttons work. I tried it with another BT mouse and it's the same thing.
If I tried using regular wireless mouse, everything works.
Well, since yesterday, my 2 month old unibody mackbook has been crashing at random. I'll be doing anything from web surfing, to just doing a time-machine back up and "whosh", the screen goes black with a 1/2" wide multicolored pixelated horizontal stripe about 1" from the top remaining.
This has happened about a dozen times, with the only option being to hold down the power button to reboot.
I went into the the nearest Apple Store to a Genius Bar appointment to see if there was anything to be done. Mind you, i also ran every known diagnostic I could get my hands upon, before I went, and everything checks out a-ok.
The Genius bar guy says it's a "known issue" with the new unibody Macs with the 9400M graphics processor. A "known issue"??? How come I have never heard about this on NBR?
I am supposed to wait until Apple issues it's firmware "fix" according the the GB guy.
I have one of those older Macbook Pros (2.2ghz C2D, 4gb ram, 8600gt). My WoW framerate in cities hovers around a pitiful 4fps! Activity monitor shows that WoW is using 110% of the CPU (I suck at maths...but this seems impossible). My Mac Mini gets 20-30fps in the same location!
View 10 Replies View RelatedWe have always been a PC family, however, my son is having to do a lot more of his schoolwork online. He is a HS Junior, and is getting very deep into the Engineering class that he is currently taking. He is even planning on continuing to do Architecture in College.
I have always used AutoCAD software on PC's, but this time, I have opted to go the route of the 15" Macbook Pro. I want him to have a reliable notebook that is going to last him all the way through college and one that will have enough oomph on the video to handle the 3D and rendering for the Architecture classes.
Can anyone tell me if the route that we have chosen is a good one, as we are new to the MAC world? I am also looking to see if anyone knows of a good Architectural software that we could look at getting for the Mac, as Autodesk does not yet support Mac?
I have the 2009 Macbook White with specs:
2.0ghz
4gig DDR2
120gig hd
9400m
I notice when playing that my framerates were fine playing WOW and the Burning Crusade Expansion. I mean like 30-40 on average with dips to mid 20's in Shattrath the Burning Crusade city.
I loaded up the Lich King expansion and have been experiencing horrible graphics lag. Weird this is it doesn't seem to be in areas I would see as taxing. Running up to a village persay. Running around an open field with few bad guys etc.
Any fellow Macbookers with the 9400m having trouble in the Lich King expansion?
I have looked all over the web, and the people with the Unibody model with same stats except they use DDR3 ram seem to be fine. From what i've read people say the difference between the two rams should not give me this kind of performance hit.
Double-clicking files in the Finder under Snow Leopard launches applications associated with the types of the files regardless of which applications used to create those files. I like it but I can see why those users who have been using Mac for 2 decades hate it. Other than that it forces one to adopt a new habit, I think it makes sense both conceptually and practically to ignore creator codes for most users.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'd like to encrypt my entire hard drive in this MBP. I use Time Machine, though -- and my understanding is that FileVault (a) is exploitable, and (b) requires that users be logged out for backups to occur. Both of those are big problems for me.
Behind that, the easiest way to encrypt things that really, truly should be protected somehow is to use Disk Utility to create a protected image, or such is my assumption. From what I understand, a .dmg can be converted to ISO within Windows (or opened with 7-zip). Is it at all possible for an encrypted .dmg to be converted/opened under Windows?
I ask because I'm not convinced I won't be on a Windows 7 notebook at some point, especially with updated HP Envy and Sony Vaio models coming. Could be wrong, but I like flexibility.
(I know that TrueCrypt serves a similar function to encrypted .dmg files via Disk Utility and is cross-platform, but still.)
Alright so I just want to know if I should be worried or not about this:
Lately, when I open the lid, the drive starts "moaning". You know that sound as if you just inserted a CD or DVD into it. It does it three times with a couple of seconds gap in between.
It still reads just fine, I just tried it with a DVD, but I'm still concerned about the sound.
Usually there is just a small and short sound when opening the lid, just like when booting up, when (as much as I can figure) the head realigns to center.
i have a 13 inch macbook pro and the latch cut-out area has cut my finger... yes, thats right, it has extracted blood from my index finger. I thought that the edges on the latch area where sharp but this is ridiculous. I want to call up Apple and complain about this.
Any of you ever had any issues with this? Look at your aluminum macbook and see how sharp those two points are where the opening lid latch is and you will see what i am talking about.
does anyone with the 1730 have this game? It does not play well at all on mine.
I'm using the lates dell driver for the 8800gtx so i don't understand why its unplayable, but it is.
i have just recently installed windows 7 on my acer aspire 4530 and after installation all are working great except for one, my volume wheel control is no longer working, before i installed windows 7 it was working just fine, don't know if im missing a driver or i forgot to set anything

My GF just found a temp monitoring program for her Dell for free on line that always show her temps inside her laptop & its seems pretty cool & now I want one for my New MBP15.
What killed my last laptop was over heating issues..
I dont own a mac but and thinking about getting one and i have a few questions. first off im not a fan of OSX so i would like to use win7, so how much will it cost for me to dualboot (cost of dual boot program plus win7 plus any other software i need free or not free)? also i know you can get 5-6hours on OSX (so ive been told, correct me if im wrong) how long of a battery life would i get with win7?
View 10 Replies View RelatedTo start I should remind everyone that i'm not a mac user. I have never owned a mac or used OSX properly before today. As such, my opinions should be taken as coming from someone who has much knowledge and experience as far as PC's are concerned, but who is a total mac n00b.
First Impressions
When I first walked over to the Macbooks I was quite taken aback. The build quality is out of this world. In fact, I immediately walked over to the latest PC laptops to compare and immediately thought "manufacturing FAIL". Really, the Macbooks are italian sports cars, and PC's are 30 year old farm tractors to use the typical "car analogy".
The Macbook
I really only had any interest in the Macbook when I first went to the Apple stand, but came away with the intention of buying a MacBook Pro. Let me explain:
The MacBook's build quality is awesome. It's solid, no creaking plastic or flexable build, completely and utterly solid. Awesome.............
What do people use? on pc, i use avast and i know some people use AVG. so any good anti virus program. i know that i wont need it most of the time as macs dont get viruses but still...

Has anyone tried this yet? I'm getting a blank cart every time I try to place an order. It is my computer or is this not active yet?
It looks like lightroom and premier has closed the gap in the windows land compared to Aperture and Final Cut. And with OpenCL's focus on using the GPU to boost performance and Apple doing it's very best to off Adobe.... is there any real advantage in software in OSX anymore? Or is it all about familiarity and preference?
I was kind of considering the i5 MBP since I'm more into editing than gaming but honestly, if I can just get a beefy Win7 laptop and run software with the same features that are just as reliable I don't really see the point in spending less for more.
I recently had my cousin get me a june mbp(7 hr battery ones) from the US, since it's much cheaper there than here in india. He ordered it online and brought it here while he was shifting from there.
How do i apply for the upto date program which costs 10$ ?
I dont know the date of purchase, the place of purchase, city , state.
And fyi, I live in india. So i'm guessing there's another problem pertaining to the shipping right?
What could be the problem with my screen? I have these vertical lines that are multi-colored!! Has my computer crashed? If so can I get my information off the hard drive, and how much does that normally cost?
