View 7 RepliesIs there a way to cycle through windows in the same program? for example, i have two safari windows open, and i want to change windows, is there a keyboard shortcut like alt+tab? this is one of the most annoying things in OS X that i miss from windows..

How is this laptop compared to the Macbook Pro? The performance/battery life all seems to be almost identical. The only thing pro sems to be giving me is a bit better hardware quality. The most important part is, how is the screen on it now? Is it better than before? comparable to the Pros?
View 10 Replies View Relatedregarding the keyboard layout of the new MBP 13" and the original unibody MB 13", does anyone know if there is anything structurally different? Did Apple change the shape/design of the body of the laptop between the two refreshes?
I'm asking because I recently got a Moshi ClearGaurd for my keyboard and it's note quite a perfect fit. It fits well enough but kind of scrunches up when I use the outer keys (the arrows, etc). I don't know if this is because of the way it's designed or if it's the laptop. I bought this: [url]
I have the new MBP 13".
I booted up my acer aspire 7520 and checked my email then left the room. When i returned the laptop was switched off so i tried to reboot it.Unfortunately it will not boot up anymore,it begins to boot but then switches off and then tries to reboot again.I can no longer access the bios as the boot cycling prevents it.I thought it may have been a hard drive problem so i replaced it with a new one but this has the same effect. The RAM cards have been removed and tried in different slots and this hasn't helped. The only way to stop the laptop from cycling through is to remove the battery. This fault occurs both when trying on battery power and on mains supply. The battery is getting charged ok.Has anyone on this forum ran into this problem before? I have searched on the net for clues on how to fix this but have ran up against a brick wall. There are lots of people who have had this problem but i haven't found a fix yet.The laptop is running Vista home premium.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 15 running Windows 7. I try to turn on my computer, it goes through the Dell logo screen and then instantly reboots. I have pushed F2, F12, F8 and Ctrl+F11 keys during the Dell logo screen, but none of these do anything; all that happens is a black screen with a blinking white cursor in the upper left corner comes up for a couple seconds and then my computer restarts. I have the OS disc for reinstallation, but because of the computer not going past the black screen with the white blinking cursor in the upper left corner, I cannot reinstall Windows because it will not restart correctly.

is there any way I can find a replacement body or anything like that? My warranty just finished a few weeks ago...
Recently tried the ATI GPU with some pretty good success now looking to OC the CPU using SetFSB tool.

I only need is the latest drivers list for dell xps 1645 as I am going for the fresh installation of Win 7. Including every single driver I need..
What is the typical life span of a MBP? Now mine is only 2 years-old, so I know that it has at least a couple of years left in it, but I was just wondering when it would be normal to replace it.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm new to OS X, got my MacBook the other day, and I can hands down say it's my favorite OS I've dealt with. It's so much simpler and just plain awesome. Okay, I'll ask my question before I get carried away...
So, I did some searching on Google after I noticed that my battery likes to hang around 99%. Apparently this is common. My question is, is this a BAD thing? When I see 99% I'm picturing that the computer is constantly pushing power into the battery so it can reach 100%. I mean, isn't that how fires start?
Simply put, is my MacBook trying to charge the battery consistently when it is not at 100%?
every time I'm running my uMBP from battery, I'm constantly checking the amount of time I have left and trying to figure ways to increase that time. Yes, CONSTANTLY. Whenever I can, I'm using the a/c adapter.
Even though I may see 6-7 hours left, I'm still not satisfied.
And just about every time I am running the battery, I'll open up Coconut Battery to make sure I still have a 100% charge hold left....even though my umbp is 7 weeks old with only 4 cycles...
I'm not even coming close to this with my 2010 macbook pro 13 inch unless I turn my brightness down to 50%, on reboot it defaults to 100%. This is when doing nothing or just surfing the net. I can get about 7 hrs, with my laptop screen turned to 50%. Any tweaks available? I'd love to know how Apple came up with 10 hrs.
View 10 Replies View Relatedi have a PowerBook G4 15' Aluminum edition, it gets about 1 1/2 to 2 hours on power saving mode sometimes way less depending if it stays on during the whole class. I was wondering if this was normal or if a new battery would give me longer life?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Pro I bought in summer 2007, and I'm have concerns about its battery life, and so I was wondering if anyone could help me please.
I hardly ever use my laptop away from my desk, so it's plugged in all the time. While plugged in, I still keep the battery in the laptop. It's only been through 10 cycles in 2 years, and I know I should've calibrated it monthly, but I didn't and I really wish I had now. Right now, when unplugged, my battery only lasts about half an hour. I downloaded coconutBattery and apparently, my original battery capacity was 5600 mAh, and now it's only 543 mAh.
My question is, did I mess up the battery myself by not calibrating it, or was the battery defective in the first place? :S Or is it just old?
I'm a real n00b when it comes to computers....but if this ISN'T my fault, the laptop is under an Apple Care Protection Plan, and so would that cover the battery? Is there any way to fix it without getting a new battery?
I recalibrated my battery 2 days ago and my battery life dropped dramatically afterward to 89%, I don't know why. I only did 48 cycles for the moment. Is this normal ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAs a new 13" Macbook Pro owner, I am wondering if upgrading with non-Apple certified HDD and RAM components could drastically effect the battery life.
I am told that there is firmware in the HDD of the one that comes with a Macbook that is necessary for maximum battery life. From comparing two HDD's in my Macbook (one certified and one not) I think this might be the case. What is your experience?
Also, does there exist Apple certified RAM and, if so, does it offer more battery life compared to non-certified?
I just picked up a new 13" MacBook Pro today and I was wondering what the best settings were for maximum battery life without turning the brightness down too low. This is my first mac so if you could sort of guide me through the process of changing the settings.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have just bought my Unibody Macbook. I haven't received it yet, but I was wondering if anyone has any tips on undervolting, buying a different battery, etc. to get more battery life on it. View 5 Replies View RelatedI've noticed a considerable decrease in battery life of my 2008 Macbook white after the 2009.001 security update. Earlier I used to get around 4 - 4.5 hours on normal usage, but its down by about an hour now. Its only around 9 months old, and the battery cycles is just 20.
View 10 Replies View Relatedwhat the battery life of the new(er) unibody macbook pro 17 was like under windows. I read a review somewhere that says the new macbook pro (the one with advertised 8hours battery life) managed about 1 1/2 hours in windows, is this true? the only reason I'm looking at the 17inch pro is because I program a lot in Windows and Linux, and 17inchs would be fantastic to display more code, but I still need good battery life. portability is no issue, as I'm a big guy and I carry 2 computers with me right now anyway. any other cons to installing windows on this beast?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI do predominantly web surfing, editing photos and rendering videos on my Macbook Pro.
I have it set for Better Battery Life.
When should I set it up for "Better Performance"? Gaming?
What do you have yours set up with and what applications are you predominantly running? If you are running Windows, also, does running with Better Performance make a difference?
After seeing how awesome the Education discount is, I've decided I will definitely go after a MacBook Pro 17 if I can get this shoddy Acer returned. What attracts me is the thinness, design, keyboard, screen, weight and basically everything except the price. Everything about it screams quality, even the notorious glossy screen which I kinda like.
I have some questions about the MacBook Pros and Mac OSX in general.
1. Is the 8 Hour Battery Life for real? I know that this is some "revolutionary" new thing, but honestly I can't believe something with a WUXGA screen could go for so long.
2. Does Aluminum scratch easily? How about fingerprints?
3. (Applies to all MacBook Pros) Does the hinge of the lid creak or wobble when opening or closing the laptop?
4. Is Leopard 32 bit or 64 bit? Or is it default 64 bit? I can't see any mention of that in the configuration page.
5. How about driver support? I have a Razer Copperhead, Piranha and am ordering a Mamba and it would be a shame if they were not compatible with the OS.
6. Does Parallels or VMWare lag at all when running XP? Or is it the same experience, with no slow down? How about Boot Camp?
I have a 1 yr old Macbook Unibody (13.3"- Late 2008 model).
I have the 2.4Ghz version.
Anyway, here's what I have:
Original Batt Capacity = 4100mAh.
Current = 3953mAh (can dip to 3800 at times)
Battery Load cycles = 58
I'm currently running on batteries. I only have my browser opened along with some widgets and WIFI. I've taken all energy saving steps as well (lowest possible brightness on screen and keys) Currently sitting on 86% w/ 3 hours left..............
I just ordered my MBP 13" (2.26 ghz) from Amazon for 1049. I should get it on satureday along with with 4gb ram kit (crucial) and a 500gb Seagate Momentus 7200.4 drive. I am very excited
I have a couple of questions :
1. When I replace the drive, Can I just pop in the OSX install CD and install the OS on the new drive ?
2. would the new drive significantly decrease my battery life ? what should I expect ?
I know that keeping a battery on charge after it is fully charged can decrease its battery life by 30%, but I also know that Apple's batteries automatically stop charging when they have reached 100%, wait till the battery drops to 97%, and then start charging again. I need to know if the battery life will degrade if I keep the laptop on charge...
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am considering buying a 17" MBP mainly as a desktop replacement for my PC, since I really don't stand it anymore.
Hence, I am going to ask 2 basic questions but I have not been able to find precise answers to them:
1. what's the impact on battery life of having a 7200rpm HD in the new 17" MBP? Will I still have my around 7hrs of juice?
2. what's the impact on boot time? I have just tested the 5400rpm version, and I didn't find it exceedingly quick, i.e. it took him around 47 seconds to boot. Would the 7200rpm decrease this?
One possibility would be to buy the standard version, and then, in a few months, upgrade with a 256 Go SSD...
