View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Pro late 08 2.53 GHz CPU with the 9600 GT card and 4 gigs of RAM. I have Leopard 10.5.7 installed. When zooming in on my photos in iPhoto, it is really stuttery. I am sure it's not a temperature problem because the temp is about 36 degrees Celsius. It is even stuttery when running on the high performance setting.
View 10 Replies View RelatedIn preparation for the quite-likely-to-happen-towel-throwing-in, I've recently imported all my photos into iPhoto from PC's.
So I'm going to need to give this a try. Three Macs to start with.
I already own Chronosync and Econ has a good guide for doing the sync in CS.
However, is there a better option? A completely automatic solution like Dropbox?
i just backed up all of my data onto my external drive and ready to do a clean install of snow leopard. however, i have a windows partition on my hard drive. will i lose this if i erase the mac hd so i can install snow leopard? ive never done anything like this with macs before.
View 10 Replies View RelatedShe has over five thousand photos on her old Mac tower (10.4) and is backing them up to an external hard drive. It seems that when she goes to the Pictures folder she can copy and paste them over, but it does not preserve any of her naming/etc. that she has done in Iphoto. Unfortunately, she has a lot of important information tagged and would like to preserve it. I am at a loss as I do not own a Mac nor do I have unlimited access to her computer. I have scoured Google for about an hour with no luck. Does anyone know of a way this can be done efficiently? The one option I have come across is Time Machine, but she would have to upgrade to Leopard to get this function. I am not sure if she will be able to at the moment, nor am I sure that her external drive will work correctly.

View 9 Replies View RelatedLooking at getting this laptop currently listed as $699.99 problem I am having is confirming if this has DVD and CD writer capability and also if it has a USB/eSata shared port as it shows in the pictures. Has anyone here bought this computer or know someone who has that can verify? I have tried asking but reps are only going to repeat what is on the site which is being conflicted by pictures shown vs specs listed.

For the backup images that they create, do you create an image of the entire hard drive? If so, does the program compress the backup?
I am looking to do a clean install of Mac OSX. When I do a restore of my old files, I'm only looking to restore docs, pics, music, etc.. I don't want to restore previously installed program or settings. Is it possible to do that with Time Machine?
installing windows on the mac and found the boot camp assistant in my OSX and it partitioned the HD and ask for the windows disk! does this mean I don't need fusion 2.0? the thread dose not mention VMware fusion, in installing widows

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBookPro5,2 that I've recently installed a 2nd HDD using an optibay caddy where the superdrive had been.
I would like to have Windows 7 running natively on that 2nd drive. Can I do this via Bootcamp? Or do I use the OS X Disk Utility app to format it as FAT and then proceed to install the windows OS without using bootcamp? I assume I would then need to install the apple drivers that are on my snow leaopard install disk.
Is that about right? Will I be able to selective boot by holding the Opt key at bootup jsut as if I had used bootcamp?
Just did a fresh install of XP on my bootcamp partition. And I can't gat any drivers to work correctly with the 9600m GT. Tried several drivers from Laptopvideo2go.com, but they keep reverting to a basic VGA res and color depth. It will not let me adjust any settings.
It says sothing about the currently installed graphics drivers was written for a previous windows installation, so teh default VGA driver will be used.
If anyone has any info to help a guy out here it would be greatly appreciated.
I never experienced any issues like this on either Vista x64 or Win7 X84/64.
I've bought a new HDD (Western Digital 500GB) to replace the old one because there was not enough space on it. So I replaced the hard drives, insert the DVD, hold C and the installation process starts .... but when it reaches the point to choose my destination hard drive .... there is no drive listed there to choose.
I suspected that the new hard drive is broken, so I opened another laptop (PC) that I have and I replaced the old HDD with the new one and everything works fine.
How do you install Mac OS and Windows in the same computer? How does it work? Do you install them in completely separate partitions, only 1 OS can run at a time, only 1 partition is visible at a time, like common x86 Boot Manager? Or does Windows run on top of Mac OS?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am not bad c/c++ developer. I am interested in with objective c recently and have been learning about it from different sources. so I would like to start some programming with that.
my questions are:
- is it possible to run xcode on windows?
- if its not possible, question is "is it possible to install mac os on my x86 notebook"
I have an old PowerBook G4 here which once had a dead hard drive that I have now replaced. I've attempted to install both Leopard and Tiger but it acts as though the discs are corrupt in the case of Leopard, while Tiger simply fails to install after finishing one of the later stages of the install process (something after it installs the additional languages).
So I'm thinking now that there may be a problem with the DVD drive, and would like to install from a USB drive - is this possible? I would like to do this with Tiger preferably as I already have an image of the disc on another computer.
Another idea of mine is that it is a RAM issue. Possible? I can try removing one of the sticks.
Oh and another minor problem is that I seem to be unable to get all the hinge screws all the way back in... but this doesn't matter if I can't even install OSX on the thing.
I'm trying to install OS X onto a computer using a external dvd drive. I have heard that alot of dvd drives won't read the OS X disc. Anyone know of a specific brand and model of external drive that will boot the retail install disc?
View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen trying to install the latest version of Flip4Mac i've got a warning saying that the program modified or need access to kernel or what not.... then ask for password.
i forgot the exact wording.
- what does the warning says/means?
- why does the warning comes up? this is the only program with this warning, even techtool program doesnt do this.
- anyone else get this?
- is it ok to okay it?
i install it (ok it). no ill effect. but i would hate if flip4mac is changing the kernel like a haxies program or antivirus program. the old flip4mac doesnt do this.
Is it possible to install winXP on MBA without the superdrive?
I know you can install Mac OS X via remotely without external cd drive since OS X cd has the file required for it.
So I want to know if there's a way installing winxp without it and if there is, can someone give me a tip or anyone had successful install without the superdrive?
I received my snow leopard today. it was made in singapore and had a chinese leaflet and the box had chinese letters on it. is it a genuine one? The dvd however had the usual english writings...also what type of setup do you advise me to do? a clean install?or just and upgrade. i also have w7, so i guess i will have to do a clean install to be a ble to get advantage of the bootcamp 3.0 with it being most stable. A picture of the box is posted below.

So I managed to do the unachievable... I junked my OS X install the same way Windows junks by itself in 6 months
The super snappy interface now randomly throws beach balls at me, Safari 4 often pauses for several seconds while scrolling through a page...apps take 20-30% longer time to launch...
It's not like the system is crawling, it's just that it feels a lot more bloated than what it was a few months ago Possibly due to the fact that I installed a lot of junk applications
I tried cache cleaning etc but didn't help all that much
Been thinking of doing a reinstall but without losing my personal data..
- Take a time machine backup
- Do a clean reinstall
- Restore backup
The question I have is what options do I choose when restoring the backup
- I need to make sure my Documents/pictures/Videos etc are restored as-is
- I'd prefer to get back some of my applications although I am not sure if restoring the applications would make the entire reinstall exercise futile since the junk apps would also return back.. Is there any way I can selectively choose the apps to restore
I want to restore my MBP using a fresh install.
I have an external hard drive.
I can transfer all my music files, but they won't be organized into my playlists.
Is there a way I can backup the music while retaining my organized playlists so when I transfer my music back onto the computer after the reformat, the playlists are still there?
I need a copy of Windows on my Unibody MBP within the next few days. I'm eligible for a "student" copy which I've registered to download for..., but am not sure if the student copy will be of any help to me.
Here are my questions.
1. The "student" copy is termed an "upgrade" and comes by way of download. There isn't time for me to get the physical disc. Will I be able to install this "upgrade" on a clean Windows partition via Boot Camp?
2. Can the "upgrade" version be used as a clean install of Windows 7?
3. If I can install a clean version of Windows 7 this way, does it need to be via Snow Leopard?
4. Should I download the 32bit or 64bit version of Windows 7?
I think that's all. I'm basically just wondering WHAT the hell the download actually is (a burnable .iso file?), and whether I can use that download via bootcamp to install!
How easy is it to install windows on a partition of the HD of a Macbook air instead of running windows in a virtual machine environnement of OS X ? It should be much faster and consume less power, no ?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty sure I crashed my hard drive. I came back in and my two year old white dual core macbook had froze up. I screwed around with it and finally got it to boot from the external backp drive.(Don't ask me how I did it) I know it had the system on it. I put it on when I did the intial backup a year ago. I tried to reinstall the software but the internal doesn't show up. ANd you can't install to an external hardrive. SO can I just install a new harderive and does anybody have any suggestions as to what brand, size and best deal.
Also there is a ton of upgrades that want to download as the OS I have is over a year old on the external.
I'll be checking in cause I know I probably don't have enough info on here. ANd i aint gonna shut down
