Apple :: Mac Ibook G4 - Os X Install Disc - Errors
Jan 21, 2009
i got a used mac ibook g4 and it starts to load mac os X and shows blue indicator line.. it gets to the end but stays there forever. any ideas.. i got the os X install disc.. i tried that but it errors..
I'm trying to install OS X onto a computer using a external dvd drive. I have heard that alot of dvd drives won't read the OS X disc. Anyone know of a specific brand and model of external drive that will boot the retail install disc?
iv installed windows 7 in bootcamp and set it as the default OS. now,i cant find how to eject the window 7 install disc, as the eject button dont work. also, i cant find out how to get back to osx?
We're looking to jump into Apple's and I thought this would be a good, inexpensive way to do it.
We basically surf, email, download photos and kids watch streamed videos.
Here it is: "Apple iBook G4 for sale. Barely used at all, in very good condition. Used this unit to get acquainted to Mac OS and switched to a pricier model shortly thereafter. 14 inch LCD 1.33 GHz PowerPC 60 GB HDD 512 MB RAM (expandable) CR-RW/DVD-ROM 8123 Airport Extreme (Wireless) Ethernet / 56 k Modem Mac OS X 10.3.9 installed & on Install Discs PowerAdapter
I'm Getting kind of bored of my Plain iBook. does any one know of any hack's i can do software and Hardware and case mods?
I'm Going to Paint my lcd/top part and started on It Apple green I was going to get some stain glass paint, and do The Apple logo!
I have a iBook G4 Mid 2005, 1.33GHZ, 1.5GB's of ram, 160GB western digital "IDE" My iBook has Bluetooth and Airport wireless, and The sudden hard drive sensor too.
I'm having issues with my Ibook G4. I'll start it, it'll run fine for a few minutes, and then freeze up to where no matter what I do, nothing happens, and then I restart it only to have the same thing happen again. I'm thinking it's a software issue, cause when I ran the hardware test, no issues showed up.
I just replaced a failed hard drive on someone's iBook G4 and am now trying to install the operating system. I have the two CD's called "iBook G4 software install and restore." Using them, things go fine until it is time to "select a destination volume," where it doesn't show any volume to select. Running the apple hardware test off the cd shows that it detects the new hard drive, which is OK, and all the other hardware is OK too. So, what to check next? New hard drive is a seagate momentus 5400.3 ST9120822A.
I made a clean install of Windows 7 on my Sony VPCEB1S1E/BJ last night, mainly because the language this laptop came in was wrong and I couldn't understand anything (Home Premium, so couldn't change it either). After the install I noticed the laptop became very slow, so I reverted it using recovery discs which were supposed to reset the laptop back to factory defaults. Ok, the language went back to the original and everything was as before. But... now the laptop is very slow, especially with boot times.
I receive a lot of errors and critical errors which show up in the event lists. Event ID is usually 100, or 102-106. A few messages aboiut how some programs delayed the boot, a few about cd-rom driver delaying the boot...
Apple care hk is very good.i just lost my whole recovery disc and i life 09 disc and also the receipt.i just call apple care.they said they will send me the whole disc free of charge.
NIB T430U (Type 8614), 128 SSD, shipped with Win 7 Pro but had a Win 8 Pro license.
Booted into Windows Installer via USB thumb drive running YUMI Multiboot tool (Win 7 Pro is the only OS on it currently). Installer loads perfectly, go into Custom (Advanced), blew away all existing partitions and create a new one using all available space (122104MB). New partition is created, go to format, expecting it to automatically create the System Reserved partition but it doesn't. Click Next, get an errors stating, "Setup cannot create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. Check setup logs for more details."
Did some research and decided to go into DISKPART and do all of the partitioning ahead of time. Ran the following sequence:
diskpart list disk select disk # clean all create partition primary align=1024 format fs=ntfs active exit exit
Closed the Windows Installer to reboot the PC and went through the same installation motions, omitting making any changes when in the Custom (Advanced) section, same error.
The compilation seems to finish successfully (as far as i can tell), however i cant even run winecfg, i get lots of errors!
I've tried with version 1.20 to 1.22, one of which even said that they support Snow Leopard in the release notes, so i figure it should work for Leopard aswell?
I dont know what to do because i've never had a compilation finish successfully only to have the app fail so horribly. Had it been on linux i'm sure it would've just worked (compiled wine serveral times on linux with no problems).
Oh, i've also tried darwine, but the later versions of that doesnt work either (unless you already have the ~/.wine folder i think)
Am i missing something? Do i need to do something special before i try wine on OS X? Has anyone else tried compiling Wine? how i can get wine to run?
I got a new 120GB seagate Momentus 7200rpm HDD in the mail today. I wasn't expecting it yet (I actually wasn't expecting it to ship until today) so I wasn't ready for it.
I need to know how I can copy windows from my current 60GB HDD to my new 120GB...but I don't have a Windows Xp CD. I know there is some way to make an "image" of my current HDD? But when I research that it gets a little confusing because they are always how to's for backing up your files rater than making a CD that you can actually install on a blank HDD.
How many CD's will it take If I un-install all my programs first and basically just copy Windows itself?
I'm not interested in going out and buying an external caddy and copying directly to the new HDD externally UNLESS that is the only way to do it. I need a way that it can be done like...2day! cause i'm anxious!
I just bought an apple Time Capsule and started using it last night, router and switch works great, but can I use that as an external harddrive, because I tried to transfer files from my laptop to time capsule but it always gives me errors saying that the device is disconnected and whatnot. Anyone got any words on how to use it as an external harddrive freely? By the way, I use it on my Windows 7.
my 4 month old MBP keeps kicking out errors saying that my startup disk is almost full even though I have something like 40GB free. Windows partition works perfectly fine in boot camp. I've run Disk Utility's verify disk and permissions options with no errors and I was able to repair disk permissions just fine. The bootup hardware diagnostic tool with the OS X disk runs fine too. Onyx runs its cleanup functions fine, but I still get the error every now and again.
Obviously I have performed a backup and will likely make a trip to the Apple Store but has anyone encountered something like this? All signs point to software issues, but I'm still a little worried.
I just received Windows 7 Upgrade Disc from Dell, and it says "Windows Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional Upgrade" on the disc and COA also says "Win Vista Bus to Win 7 Pro UPG Fullfill."
I was curious if it is really impossible to do a clean install with upgrade disc as regular upgrade disc is. (At least I was told that it is impossible), but I did not want to upgrade my notebook to Windows 7 yet.
So, I gave it a try on VMWare. It installed just like regular Windows 7 disc in a empty HDD. It even took COA that came with the upgrade disc. I did not try activating because it probably will fail if it uses SLIC to activate, or in worst case, it will get activated on my VM, and I will be unable to active it when I actually want to upgrade my notebook's OS
Has anyone done this on an Acer laptop? I recently bought a 5515 for my parents and after seeing all the bloatware that came on it I figured I'd do a clean OS install. I backed up the CD Key using the ABR utility and backed up all the drivers. I then started the new OS install and get all the way to "completing installation" and it sits there spinning for a good 20-30 mins before it freezes. I tried the 32 bit version first followed by the 64 bit and had no luck either try. I eventually reinstalled the factory settings using the recovery disc.
I was making a Windows 7 recovery disc set, usning the Lenovo Thinkvantage tools, and one of the first pop up windows that came up said "Note: DVD RAM is not supported for Disc 1 of the Product Recovery disc set". Does this meen that I cannot use a DVDs for a Recovery discs? That is all I have.
I popped in the disc and selected Install. Well it starts installing and I go downstairs for about 15. When I come back up, the screen is off but the disc is still spinning. It's been going on like this for about 20 minutes now.
Is the screen suppose to go blank while installation occurs?
2 updates keep failing: Microsoft.NET Framework Sevice pack1 Internet Explorer 8 for windows vista.
And now I get a message saying that it can't contact windows update, so i do it manually, the install starts then seems to stick and the only way I can get out of the install screen is to shut down
I have an e4300 with 4 gigs of ram and Win7. I recently downloaded the latest Windows Update as prompted by the OS, and now I'm having an issue where everytime I start the computer it asks me to set the page file size. It's always listed as 0 megs.
So, I got to reset it using the box marked managed by the system, and when I restart the same thing happens.
So instead I chose a custom size 1.5xRam for lower limit, 3x ram for higher limit, and still eveytime I restart it gives me an automatic pop-up telling me my page file is set to zero.
I have trouble with DELL DOCK, sometimes I get a window telling me that there were problems with the option to send the error to the DELL and the option RESTART the DELL DOCK.
Well I've finally figured out why my computer freezes for 30 seconds at a time. I looked at the Event Viewer and this is what I've discovered...
Source: iaStor Event ID: 9 Level: Error
The device, DeviceIdeiaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period.
Does anyone else have this problem with their Studio 1745? Is this common with all of these running the Intel Gm45 chipset? I really need to find a fix or I'm gonna have to sell this and try another brand.
I've got a random clicking sound coming from my HDD (XPS m1330, 200 GB 7200 RPM drive) - so far only when running a certain torrent. Turning the torrent off stops the clicking, etc.
I called Dell who told me to run HDD diagnostics which found no errors whatsoever. Also, my system isn't freezing/slow at all. I reflashed the bios with the most updated one (A15) at the tech's suggestion but it made no difference... I prefer A09 since the fan runs less so unless anyone can confirm the bios might make a difference I'll revert it...
I have problem with my Acer Aspire 7520G. When I turn it on, after memory check and disk check I got messages:
Resource Conflict PCI Serial Bus Controler in slot 01 Bus:01 Device:04 Function:00 ERROR Bus:01 Device:04 Function:01 ERROR Bus:01 Device:04 Function:02 ERROR Bus:01 Device:04 Function:03 ERROR Bus:01 Device:04 Function:04 ERROR
after this wont boot neither from HDD nor CD/DVD. Just blink currsor apears.
After a few of restarts, if I got luck, it will boot up "normally". I checked in Windows system that Bus 01 Device 04 is acctualy
Ricoh 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller at Function 00, SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller at Function 01, Ricoh SD/MMC Host controller at Function 02, Ricoh Memory Stick Controller at Function 03, Ricoh xD-Picture Card Controller at function 04.
Figured the G60T was sufficient, cheaped out on everything, 3GB memory. Loaded everything up and started receiving blue screen in Vista. Reloaded from factory image and still seems to be flaky. I ran memtest 86+ (failed in test 5 and 8) and windows diagnostic tools failed ERAND test. I think the memory is okay as they test fine separately so either timing off or bus or something else is messed. One week of frustration with HP support. Bottom line HP answer is if the BIOS memory test runs okay, then everything is okay. What a hassle. Anyone know if there is some quirk that would have the tests fail but everything be okay? I guess we'll return but printer and other rebates were bundled in along with cash back.
