I am looking to upgrade the Ram, CPU, and HDD
I was just posting to make sure all of this is possible,
I was going to replace the cpu with a AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-64 Mobile Tech 2.2GHz
and I was going to drop in a bigger HDD and 4gigs of RAM.
my dell system has been passworded be a trainee technicial who was just tought how to use bios. Please i need help to get rid of this password. when power-on the message i got is this computer system, #68ZFRG1-595B, is protected by a password system.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to 4gb RAM on my 1521 from 2gb. After I installed it I checkethe <Properties> on XP to see if all the RAM was showing up, 3.37gb showed up. But I noticed the processor speed was down to only 795mhz, so I checked it with CPU-Z again and that read 795mhz as well.
I went into BIOS and turned off the AMD PowerNow option and it bumped it back to 1.9ghz. I ran CPU-Z again and it was at like 1.895.2ghz, but i noticed the bus speed was down to 199.5 mhz. Shouldn't that be like 333 or something? I've attached some screenshots from CPU-Z after turning off AMD PowerNow, with PowerNow all cpu specs are much lower.
Her mum was using the laptop a couple of nights ago and the screen just went blank suddenly when she was browsing the internet.
She held the Power button in and turned it off as it was still running. When she tried to Start it up again the Laptop is starting up but nothing is coming up on the screen, The screen is staying completely blank,
Although when you hold for talk sake the Light of your mobile phone around 1cm away from the Screen you can see the Desktop of the Laptop. So basically the laptop is working but theres no light to light the screen up it just stays black as if it isnt turned on.
I have a problem with gaming on the Inspiron 1521 laptop running on vista home prem. Ok, take any game that has some 3-D effects on it, when I play the game with the battery charger plugged into my laptop, the game starts and then it just freezes.
I have to hold the power button to get out of it, but when I take the battery charger out of the laptop and start the game, it works fine but a little slow. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?
My dell is not detecting SSD (replaced the HDD with SSD). Is it because SATA is not supported? The SSD is SATA 2 compatible.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLong time no see! I'm about to grab a Inspiron 1521 for $100, the problem is in the title. Run's fine, for a half an hour then shuts off.
My assumption is the maximum problems could be:
- Fans not working, resulting in an overheating: hence shutdown at max temp.
- Heatsinks or thermal compound issues, resulting in an overheating: hence shutdown at max temp.
- Rare possibility that it has a cold solder somewhere located in the mobo: hence shutdown after 30 minutes of running, generated heat build up .....
I have a inspiron 1521 that i have been having problems with. It's an older laptop.
When i turn on the power, nothing is displayed on the screen. When i hold fn+power I get 2 flashing lights and one solid. The num lock and cap lock flash. I don't really know what this means. I have also done a BIST and the laptop seems to pass this just fine. (Different colors flash on the screen). I have tried removing ram 1 at a time but it always blinks the same lights. Could this be a problem with the motherboard?
When I start up my laptop, it makes a beeping sound then tells me something along the lines of,"AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined."And when I press F2, it tells me that my battery is operational but it is on idle but the lights on the battery do not glow.When I get it started up, on the actual home screen with icons and everything, if I hover above the battery icon it tells me, "Plugged in, not charging."
My AC power adapter has a small led light on it, and it is green. Before this, my laptop used to get very very hot, to the point that I could not even put it on my lap for too long. I would also sometimes put it on my bed where there is fabric. Also, there is a break on the AC adapter at the very top near where it gets plugged in. I also ran a diagnostic test and it gave me back a code, 2000-0142 .....
Also, my laptop is significantly slower and I am using an Inspiron 1521
I had a problem with my old windows vista, and cannot restart windows. I put in a brand new 500hd. The windows 7 goes through the whole install procedure, but the last step "completing installation", it does not complete, but locks up. I have tried several times, and even removed the cd before the final restart, to have it search the HD for start-up soft ware, as I have read, but nothing works.

I wasnt really planning on an upgrade but the pricing looks pretty good.
I am not sure if its worth it though. My M1210 with SSD is amazing.
I just dont know if going from a 2.0 T7200 to a 2.66 T9550 is worth it or if i should wait longer for an I7 system in this size?
I should be getting my upgrade (Pro 64) within the next week and was wondering which method is better. I obviously know that it will run a bit faster for the first month or so with clean install, however, my concern is with the activation of the dell free upgrade version. Will it simply be boot the free upgrade disk and install and it will be activated fine? Or, is there more to it? Also, say a year from now I wanted reformat/reinstall win 7... How would I go about doing that with the dell free upgrade DVD?

My good friends Rajesh and Dr. Pratik have done clean installs of Win7 on FZ models, but I decided to take a different approach... the "dreaded" OS in place upgrade. Partly out of curiosity, I wanted to see if it would work, but mainly because I have a ton of software that would need to be reinstalled, if I did a clean install. I have some issues with my video since I upgrade the nvidia drivers from the nvidia web site. I removed the drivers and I reinstalled the original ones with the same results.
Does the Windows drivers upgrade also upgrades the video firmware as well?

I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in my XPS 1645 when it arrives (or some time after that). And I was wondering what type of RAM we need? I know its DDR3 1333Mhz but I'd like to know whether to go for Class 5 (or 6 or 4? can't quite remember).
And buffered or unbuffered? And whether it needs EEC or not. I remember researching this a few years ago but have forgotten by now.

I have a Dell D520, with the Celeron M 430 @1.73 GHz 533, I upgraded the CPU to a Core Duo T2400, 1.83Ghz 667 FSB but when i try to turn the laptop on, nothing is displayed on the screen, I hear the hardrive kick on, i see the LED power light, light up, i hear the CD drive Spin up to see if there is anything in the drive, but that is where it stops. The screen will stay black, and i can not get past this. If i put in the old CPU it will boot up no problems..
I am waiting for the other CPU a T5600. I bought 2, a T2400 and a T5600.
What should i do, and how do i get this to work?

I currently am running 1 gig of ram but I imagine it's (2) 512 sticks. If memory serves me correctly, the way Dell sets up their computers is 1 stick is dedicated to the motherboard so I can only mess with the free 512 stick. Then, back to my original question, am I stuck with that one slot and must pay $150+ for a 2 gig stick or does Dell provide an extra slot, thus making it possible to get (2) 1 gig sticks plus the 512 included?

OCZ 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz SODIMM Memory (I know my notebook will still only run at 667, but would this still be better performing then PC5400?)

Does anyone know if an outside soucre other than DELL provide the slot load Blurray player for the XPS? I have just spoke to a Dell rep who said if i wanted to upgrade I would have to buy it and send it to them to service and install.

I picked this one because of the 25W (vs 35W) TDP, so that the fans would kick in the least possible.............

well i currently have a studio 1537 but i want to return as there are some problems with it and i still need a laptop for school.
so i was wondering how is the e6400? i hear some peoples e6400's are freezing up. so i was wondering is there any major problems with them? or do u reccomenend any other laptop?
