View 6 RepliesI have an aging M1210 with 2 gigs of ran, a OCZ SSD & the C2D 2ghz T7200 processor.
I wasnt really planning on an upgrade but the pricing looks pretty good.
I am not sure if its worth it though. My M1210 with SSD is amazing.
I just dont know if going from a 2.0 T7200 to a 2.66 T9550 is worth it or if i should wait longer for an I7 system in this size?
I should be getting my upgrade (Pro 64) within the next week and was wondering which method is better. I obviously know that it will run a bit faster for the first month or so with clean install, however, my concern is with the activation of the dell free upgrade version. Will it simply be boot the free upgrade disk and install and it will be activated fine? Or, is there more to it? Also, say a year from now I wanted reformat/reinstall win 7... How would I go about doing that with the dell free upgrade DVD?
View 10 Replies View RelatedWith all the hand wringing folks have been doing about the lack of drivers for a clean install of Win7 I thought I'd jump in to the deep end of the pool with my FZ190 and investigate an alternative. My good friends Rajesh and Dr. Pratik have done clean installs of Win7 on FZ models, but I decided to take a different approach... the "dreaded" OS in place upgrade. Partly out of curiosity, I wanted to see if it would work, but mainly because I have a ton of software that would need to be reinstalled, if I did a clean install. That would mean days or weeks of inventorying every thing I have installed, digging up installation media and then installing all the stuff. I just don't have the spare time. So...
This past weekend I imaged my C: drive (all my data and I mean ALL my data is on D:, I am a fanatic about that). MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP OF YOUR C: DRIVE BEFORE YOU TRY AN UPGRADE! I ran the Windows 7 Update adviser and it said I had some issues:
Quote:
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT - NVIDIA Not compatible The driver installed for this device is not compatible with Windows 7....................
I have some issues with my video since I upgrade the nvidia drivers from the nvidia web site. I removed the drivers and I reinstalled the original ones with the same results.
Does the Windows drivers upgrade also upgrades the video firmware as well?
I am trying to upgrade to windows 7 with the free windows 7 upgrade kit I have both Cds and i put in the home premium windows 7 cd it starts up and tells me "run-time error 70' permission denied"
my laptop is Fw490jeb
I have noticed that when I try to run "model.txt" it does not show up and when I go to system it does not detect my processer and other things...
I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in my XPS 1645 when it arrives (or some time after that). And I was wondering what type of RAM we need? I know its DDR3 1333Mhz but I'd like to know whether to go for Class 5 (or 6 or 4? can't quite remember).
And buffered or unbuffered? And whether it needs EEC or not. I remember researching this a few years ago but have forgotten by now.
Also does somebody know what brand (and type) sticks are in the 1645 standard?

I have a Dell D520, with the Celeron M 430 @1.73 GHz 533, I upgraded the CPU to a Core Duo T2400, 1.83Ghz 667 FSB but when i try to turn the laptop on, nothing is displayed on the screen, I hear the hardrive kick on, i see the LED power light, light up, i hear the CD drive Spin up to see if there is anything in the drive, but that is where it stops. The screen will stay black, and i can not get past this. If i put in the old CPU it will boot up no problems..
I am waiting for the other CPU a T5600. I bought 2, a T2400 and a T5600.
What should i do, and how do i get this to work?
Can someone please explain to me how this works? I heard Windows 7 doesn't get released until October,
yet people are saying the upgrade will be available tomorrow? Also, how much does it cost, and is it actually going to be available tomorrow
On an E1705, first gen (2006) and haven't popped the case yet. How many slots of ram do I have available? I currently am running 1 gig of ram but I imagine it's (2) 512 sticks. If memory serves me correctly, the way Dell sets up their computers is 1 stick is dedicated to the motherboard so I can only mess with the free 512 stick. Then, back to my original question, am I stuck with that one slot and must pay $150+ for a 2 gig stick or does Dell provide an extra slot, thus making it possible to get (2) 1 gig sticks plus the 512 included?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to upgrade my XPS 1530 to 4GB of ram and run Vista 64. So I was looking at globalcomputer.com and newegg.com and I found these:
OCZ 4096MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHZ SODIMM Memory
Corsair 4096MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHz SODIMM Memory
or
OCZ 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz SODIMM Memory (I know my notebook will still only run at 667, but would this still be better performing then PC5400?)
any thoughts or suggestions?
Does anyone know if an outside soucre other than DELL provide the slot load Blurray player for the XPS? I have just spoke to a Dell rep who said if i wanted to upgrade I would have to buy it and send it to them to service and install.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy current configuration is the following:
CPU: T7500
RAM: 2GB
Is it worth upgrading to T9500 and 4GB of RAM?
Should I do it through Dell or by my own? I know that doing it by my own is much cheaper but what's happening with the guarantee? Moreover, will I need a new charger? How much does it cost approximately?
Is there anything else that I should take into account?
what the fastest processor would be to fit my D610? Also, what is the largest hard drive capacity? Will it read solid state drives?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if my cpu could be upgraded to the latest chip in the P class (P9700). My laptop came with, (Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P7350) at 2.0ghz. I can't even run the game Crysis and this machine is supposed to be meant for gaming.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just finished a CPU upgrade from a T6400 to a P9500, I had my doubts if the CPU would work but works beatifully (2.53ghz 6mb cache).
I picked this one because of the 25W (vs 35W) TDP, so that the fans would kick in the least possible.............
Can I upgrade my Dell XPS M1530 with a T5800 Core 2 Duo CPU to a Quad Core CPU like the Q8100 (not now but maybe in the next 6 months)..
I think the socket is the same and it's still Penryn but the FSB is different so I'm not sure..
I would like to upgrade my CPU. I have the base Celeron M 430 @ 1.73 GHz. What other CPU's would just drop right in?
I guess i have the 945GM Family.. (Can accept 4GB Ram)
Also if you have one, for sale that will fit, send me a PM.. Will post a WTB thread once i know what i wtb. lol. I am looking to upgrade to one of the available Intel Core Duo chips..
Would the T2300E @ 1.66GHz or T2400 @ 1.83GHz CPU drop right in to this current system?
If this is correct, then any T2300E @ 1.66GHz or T2400 @ 1.83GHz CPU would work, and compputer brand does not matter, all i am looking for is,
T2300E @ 1.66GHz or T2400 @ 1.83GHz CPU. Correct?
well i currently have a studio 1537 but i want to return as there are some problems with it and i still need a laptop for school.
so i was wondering how is the e6400? i hear some peoples e6400's are freezing up. so i was wondering is there any major problems with them? or do u reccomenend any other laptop?
i was going to buy from the outlet because they do seem to be pretty cheap and i am on a budget...
and how are the e6500's? any major difference except the size?...
I would like to know if I can still upgrade my old CPU T7250 into something newer in the P series.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWell I ended up slapping another copy of win 7 on my laptop as I got sick of waiting.
My Dell Win 7 DVD came today. It also includes the COA to put at the bottom next to the Vista one.
Also a neat little bonus was a "Easy Upgrade DVD" which has all the Windows 7 drivers on it. It also updates the X-Fi MB to work with Win 7.
if it is possible to upgrade my Studio 1535's processor (Intel C2D T5750, 2.0GHz). I cheaped out on most of the parts when I first bought this thing, as I was somewhat strapped for cash, so I went with the bare-minimum processor, but now I think I can do better.
So, is it possible to replace my processor? If so, what are some compatible models? I'm looking for at least 2.4GHz, for the record.
is it possible to upgrade an e1505 screen to a led screen so i can save battery life? like say something like this?
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-DELL-STUDIO-...lenotsupported
and if so how much battery life would i gain? now since i have an ati x1400 256mb video card i am guessing that i cant go with one that was 1080p or anything right?
I have a 2.5 year old E1705 notebook. I'm going to upgrade to W7 soon and in the process I thought I'd upgrade my memory from 2GB to 4GB.
I ran Dell's utility from their tech support page and it seems to be the case that the maximum my computer will support is 2GB! Is that possible?
In any case, I ran a diagnostic program (from Dell's utility) and it says my computer has two memory slots, and currently each slot on my computer has "Dual In-line Memory Module 1GB, 533, 128X64, 8K, 200", whatever that means.
I assume the 533 is memory speed (Hz) value. So according to Dell's utility, I am unable to increase the amount of RAM, but I could, for instance, "upgrade" to better chips (i.e., Dell sells DDR2 SDRAM Memory Speed: 800 MHz). Price would be $56.
So I got my computer this past August and registered my system for the Windows 7 free upgrade in October.
On the 22nd, when windows 7 came out, i went back to Dell's website where i had previously registered my computer and saw that i could now enter shipping info.
After doing so, I placed my order and later got a confirmation email that my order had been received. I checked the status of this order and saw that it said "Processing
I'm thinking of upgrading my E1705. A while ago I upgraded to the 7900GS from my crappy ATI card.
Now I want a new CPU, more ram, and HD. Here is what I'm looking at
CPU
upgrading from a T2500 to Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 Merom 2.0GHz Socket M 34W Dual-Core.
RAM
upgrading from 2GB ram to OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model
HD
upgrading from Dell OEM HD 50GB 5400 rpm to HITACHI Travelstar 7K200 200GB 7200 RPM SATA 1.5Gb/s Notebook Hard Drive - OEM
total upgrade $ 550.00
If you upgrade the e1705 GPU to say a 7950GTX GPU; don't you have to worry about the compatibility with the chipset? Or does the BIOS flash take care of that?

I was just posting to make sure all of this is possible,
I was going to replace the cpu with a AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-64 Mobile Tech 2.2GHz
and I was going to drop in a bigger HDD and 4gigs of RAM.
If I change the monitor of my dell inspiron b120 a bigger screen, like the b130 which is a little bigger.....
Do I need to do something else or just unplug, swap, plug in and ready to work?
