My audio on the bottom right icon tray comes as a cross and it when ever I boot up. If I troubleshoot it says install the IDT audio driver and it will solve it. An yes the cross goes away but come back with the next boot of Windows

All went well until I had to reinstall the device drivers to get my device to access the internet via wifi. So far, I can't seem to get the driver for the device that allows my laptop to see any wireless connections and have to plug in a network cable to go on the internet. how I can get the right device drivers other than using the device driver disk?

On pressing the power button the laptop is beeping continuously for 6 times stops and starts beeping continuously again for 6 times and stops beeping...screen blank....From the dell studio 1558 manual available online I think it is a Video Card Failure. I have a Studio 1558 laptop, originally with Windows 7 which I upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro. I have just installed a larger HD (1TB) to replace the 500GB which I thought might have been on its way out as it occasionally started clicking. I have also taken the opportunity for a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro. But the Device Manager does not show any Bluetooth devices even though the Bluetooth mouse works! However I cannot find any links in Devices & Printers to allow me to change the mouse wheel action or the Synaptics touch pad action.
Going back to the 500GB HD gives me all this functionality so the hardware is all ok. The BIOS settings still have Bluetooth enabled. I have updated Windows updates, and used Slimdrivers to update all the drivers.
I have a Studio 1558 laptop, about 3 years old and a couple of weeks ago it stopped working.
When I press the power button (both on battery and on mains supply) the power button lights up white and stays white and my backlit keyboard lights up. I can hear the fan whirring but thats all that happens. It will stay like this for ever until I press the power button and it then shuts down instantly. There is no BIOS screen and I get no POST beeps.
I've tried plugging it into my TV as an alternative monitor but there's still nothing. I've checked the hard drive and swapped it for a new one but it still makes no difference. I've checked the memory and that's fine. If i try to boot up with the memory removed I do get two beeps.
My current OS is Windows 8 Pro, Display driver: AMD 13-4_mobility_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql.exe1 If set Backlit brightness to level 2 for example, and after some time display turns off (turn off display after X minute) by itself, or restart the laptop; the Backlit brightness level remains same (level 2) but the actual Luminosity (Intensity of backlit) changes to something else.2 If I decrease the Backlit brightness (Fn + F4) to level 0 (the minimum level), and if I further press the key combination (Fn + F4) to decrease Backlit brightness, it will change the Backlit brightness, but the Backlit brightness should not be changing because it already reaches to the minimum level.This issue doesn't happen in Windows 7 with the same driver. this apart from reverting back to ATI v12.1 ?

I guess that is the reason why I don`t have and I can`t use Beats Audio interface on my laptop (only speakers are working). All is OK, except the equalizer function in Dolby Advanced Audio V2 is no longer working. You can still move the equalizer sliders but the actual sound quality remains the same. It just sounds flat as if all sliders are permanently set at zero.

here's the problems:
1. The damn CPU whining? I know everyone has it. Dell said last time I called that they're working on some way to fix it. The new A09 Bios didn't seem to do anything for me, or anyone else apparently according to dell's support forum. What's up with that?
2. My laptop wobbles on the top right and bottom left corners. it only wobbles if I use my 6cell batt, and it doesn't wobble w/ the 9 Cell. So does that mean the 6cell's rubber feet thing on the top right corner isn't high enough? Can dell fix that?
3. The "increase volume" media button thing isn't as responsive as the other ones. i have to press really hard to get it to respond. all the other ones i just tap it lightly, and it works.
Here's some questions that I know Dell has no clue what to do with:

I'm currently using Vista Ultimate on this only because I couldn't get my bluetooth driver and my sigmatel audio driver to work properly on XP. since dell hasn't released a xp bluetooth driver, i used WIDCOMM 5.1 stack, and the bluetooth headset and stereo headset drivers would disable the sigmatel drivers. really annoying. cmd51229 says he's gotten it to work:..........................

Took 1min initially, cut down to 40 sec by microsoft utilities(bootperf), but back again to 1min boot.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI decided to try and do the whole clean install thing with my SXPS 13 today and - well, now I'm completely freaked out and regret it completely. I kind of wish I was warned it wouldn't be so simple for a newbie laptop user, because this has been the most computer-related stress I've had in my entire life. Now I feel like I've permanently wrecked my new $1500 laptop because I have no clue what to do about the huge mistake I've made.
First of all, it seems to me like my entire computer has slown down. I downloaded iTunes on the original install within a minute or two; now, it takes 15 minutes. Internet pages come up slower than before it seems to. (I had some issues at first installing the driver for the wireless thing)
I did put the Dell Driver disc in, of course; I was so freaked out I went through everything I could, extracted then installed, because I didn't know what was supposed to go on and what wasn't (it didn't let me download drivers for things I didn't have, of course).
When I first started it up, Windows new rating for my computer was 1.0. I made it do it again, and it went up (5.3), fortunately, but it can't help but make me think what else I might be missing.
Another red flag is that when I go back to the Dell Driver disc, and I try to install something to see if I already did it, it asks if I would like to "create" the file as nothing existed their before. As I was 90% sure I did install it once before, I tried it with one I new I installed. It went through as if I never installed it, so I'm afraid if every time I restart my computer isn't going to work unless I take the time to reinstall every driver.
There has to be something huge I'm missing here. If anyone can think of anything, please let me know. Also, please let me know if anyone knows of a guide to the clean install on this computer (I already looked at Microsoft's Vista Clean Install guide, obviously that doesn't fix all the Dell driver problems) .....

Dell support have requsted I run diagnostics from the "one time boot menu" (I have run this before on other laptops but my problem here is.
Dell supports says tells me "Immediately press the F12 key once every second until ?Preparing one-time boot menu?, Shows in the upper right corner of the screen."
However all I get is "Boot Menu" (With options underneath) in the centre of the screen. Is this the same thing?
