Just purchased a 1555 with the radeon 4570 512mb GPU, Windows 7 64-bit, and performance is generally very good apart from one strange result. Windows experience index reports the following -
Processor - 5.7 Memory - 5.8 Graphics - 4.9 Gaming Graphics - 6.3 hard disk - 5.9
So the only low result is the desktop aero graphics performance at 4.9, which seems strange when the 3D businnes/gaming graphics score is 6.3. Other results i've seen posted on forums of the Windows 7 WEI scores are usually the same for desktop graphics and 3D graphics in Windows 7, which I would have expected as I understood that aero uses the GPU similarly to games. If anything, it looked like in most results the desktop graphics scores were slightly higher than the gaming graphics scores.
Does anyone know why I could be getting a lot lower desktop graphics score compared to gaming graphics?
I've checked the graphics drivers are up to date.
Can anybody else post their Windows 7 WEI scores from the 1555 with the 4570 512mb GPU?
on Dell Web my notebook appears as only 2 GB Kingston.
But Kingston is very good ram mark.
Samsung is wide used by HP.
So I guess they both are very good!In my eyes Kingston is better but Sam sung is not bad too. (I doubt my samsung blank little overheat but I don't have issues with my ram till now, so...)
Should I be protecting my screen on my E6400? I noticed that I get a mark from the pointing stick on the screen after carrying it around in my backpack.
I've just had a look at device manager and noticed there's an exclamation mark next to the dvd drive, I havn't used the drive for about a week so I'm unsure when the problem occurred.
I uninstalled it from device manger after downloading the driver from dells website but when the app runs it says 'drive not found' so I'm unable to reinstall the driver.
I've ran a live linux cd which worked fine so it must be a windows thing?
I've also refitted the drive to make sure it hadn't come loose.
Replaced my first macbook pro because the screen was crap and causing weird effects on certain parts of the screen, now do I have to exchange this one because of weird scratches/discoloration when seen at a certain angle with the light on it? I tried wiping it off with iKlear, it's still there. this is absurd. when i had a 15" i7 antiglare, the first one had a ding in the screen so i returned it for another immediately... ended up selling it because 13" fits my needs more financially and portability wise.
I have successfully completed a fresh install of Win XP Pro on by laptop and the final driver that just will not install is the Intel Chipset driver. I have downloaded the latest driver from Dells website using my laptop tag to get the correct drivers.
In device manager I have a yellow exclamation mark against SM Bus controller. However, when I install the chipset driver at the very end, the install says 'error, install will now end', then you click close and then it wants to reboot. SM Bus controller remains with an exclamation mark in the device manager.
I may take them apart and do AS5 but I dont think it will make a difference. I took some pictures and I will post them in a bit but I am having problems. I was able to enable SLI and I ran 3DMark06 and I got 9937 so I went to overclock my video card and RivaTuner gave me some prompt that it has not been tested with my drivers and and would not run properly. Once in Rivatuner I noticed I am not able to overclock my vid card or anything. So I tried to reinstall rivatuner and nothing. Then I uninstalled my videocard 171.16 drivers and ran drivecleaner, reinstalled my drivers and same thing. I even tried the new 174.12 from laptopvideo2go and still nothing.
I just recently bought a 8800m gtx card with part number xm888 for my m1730 to replace the 8700m sli card that came with it.
My question is whether my 8800m gtx card is sli or not. With the 8700m, when i check my display properties it tells me it has a total of 512mb memory, which makes sense since it is two 256mb cards. But when i do the same thing for the 8800m card it tells me i have 512mb video memory. Does this mean my card is single and not sli? Or is my card two 256mb cards?
Correct me if i am wrong, i read some old threads and people who got the same 8800m card with part number xm8800 said it was a sli card with 1gb memory. Physically, the 8800m i have looks exactly like the 8800m sli cards that have been displayed all over the forum.
there are so many people with a dead 8800m gtx. Mine died a week back. Technician came yesterday.. replaced motherboard to see if it made things alright..It didnt. Now they are telling me that I will have to wait another week for the replacement parts which (is supposed) to be arriving a week later from Malaysia. (BTW I am from India.) If anybody here would be to let me know if 8800m are actually being replaced or not (especially in Asia)?
I have read many posts in this forum with most people from the USA and few in Europe having their M1730 being replaced with AW m17x. Any idea on whats the scenario in Asia?
What should I expect from dell a week from now? Any chances that I could actually get a 8800m replacement as I was told?
If they tell me to wait for, say a week or two more, do I have any other option but to wait? I asked them to provide me a temporary laptop replacement till the issue was fixed, but they said they dont have such facilities.

When this card comes out at the end of the year, will it get the same 3dmarks scores and fps in old/new games as the desktop version or will it be a little faster then the 8700m? I hope its going to be same as the desktop version.
I've read about marks being left on the screen when closing the lid of Macbooks but I didn't expect it to happen on my Macbook Pro (late 2007 model) because the keyboard keys are slightly recessed and rounded.
Well, technically the problem didn't arise from the keys but rather that sharp edge just below the spacebar and above the trackpad. What I have now is a thin line that's about 1" to 2" across. It makes the screen look slightly faded in that area. I figured that it came from that spot below the spacebar after placing a sticky note just below it and observing where it touches once the lid closes.
I guess it's not a terrible problem but it is kind of annoying. It especially annoys me to think that I might get a little less when re-selling the computer because of it
Just wanted to let those of you who use the same computer know. It'd be good to place a cloth or something over that area when shutting the lid and transporting the computer. I'm guessing it must have been slightly squeezed in that area of the screen at one point or another while the lid was closed.
I'm new to Dell and all of a sudden a great many files have a blue clock face and red exclamation point on top of file thumbnail. What does it mean and how do I remove them. Can I remove them in bulk. I backed up my whole computer yesterday, but the blue clock and exclamation point still remains on many many files and folders.
Recently I got my new inspiron n5110. after i had installed OS, i installed drivers, with bluetooth driver amongst them. I managed to make everything work just fine, except bluetooth radio. I downloaded original driver from Dell support page and installed it, but device manager shows "Generic bluetooth device" with a little yellow exclamation mark. when i go to the properties of the device, it says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)". i tried a lots of things but none worked. then finally i tried to uninstall driver, and found out that uninstaller throws error: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." i'm running win7 enterprise x64 ....
I get an average fps of 31 using DX9 Very High Cvars along with a Very High config, this running in DX9 in Vista with 8800m GTX overclocked to 625/1500/950 and this at 1920x1200 native res on my XPS M1730 ...
All my systems in my sig have replaced GPU's in a less than a year.
Is this what I get for trying to get a performance GPU's?
Kind of ennoying because I hate the tech's to come to my place and rape my system - I'm not saying all techs do, but I only had one guy who was really careful w/ my system when he was replacing parts. Others just didn't give a damn, which even lead to replacing my M1330.
I caught him when some plastic part from mobo flew off my system, and when he closed the system up, the system refused to boot up lol.
my XPS gen 1 w/ ATI still runs okay at my mom's place.
Anybody else wondering why we haven't seen anything coming out with the 8800m Nvidia cards?
Alienware had their big product release 11/19/07 for their new laptops with the 8800m cards then they pulled the link from their website.
Dell, who usually has the newest stuff doesn't mention them.
The boutique vendors like Voodoo pc and Falcon-nw that pride themselves on offering the latest hardware don't offer them. No press reviews in the print.
I've seen one on line mini review of bench marks from a clevo type laptop with an 8800m video card and that is it.
I wonder if nvidia is having a harder time manufacturing the 8800 62 nM cards than they have admitted. It would explain why the standard 8800 video cards are hard to get as well
I just took delivery of a new E440. I've noticed that when I type a " character, on the first key press nothing appears on the screen. If I type another " then two appear together.
Is this a 'feature' - a way of turning it off so I get just what I type, or Does this indicate I have a keyboard problem?
I have read in other forums that you can put the 9800m GT BIOS on a 8800m GTX card on some systems. I want to do this because I am experiencing the yellow screen problem and dell did not release a fix for all cards. I have a dell xps m1730.
