Dell :: Anyones Brick Gone Bad On Their 1530, Before Their Battery Did?

Jul 19, 2009

My brick/adapter is going going gone..me thinks..

All of a sudden, my screen went to *black* and my lappy lost power. So I pulled the adapter out, and I was able to reboot.

But, it's making a *beeping noise* (annoying as all heck).. and no longer holding a charge. The battery is good, showing 5 levels.

Anyone have this situation? I guess I'm going to have to order a new brick/power adapter...carap... I'm out of warranty on the brick

Dell :: 1530 Battery To Last Longer

May 16, 2009

I'm wondering how can I run my XPS 1530 longer than couples of hours on 6 cell battery ?
how about 9 cell users ? Can your battery last more to 4 hours ?

With lowest brightness, only 1-2 tasks running, how many hours can you get with 6 cell and 9 cell? I get only 1.5-2 hr on 6 cell which is actually quite bad and have to take adapter everywhere every time...hoping to take less weight

Dell :: Replacement Battery For XPS 1530

Nov 3, 2009

I've had my Dell XPS for over a year and a half now. No complaints with the system, especially after upgrading to Windows 7, but now I need a new battery.

The 9 cell and 6 cell that I originally bought with the system have been depleted so much that even with the laptop plugged in, the battery will not charge and obviously, both are way beyond the warranty date.

which leaves me with no other option but to purchase a new battery.

I checked out the dell website and the prices of their the replacement batteries is ridiculous.

Plus all the reviews that are posted up there, echo the same sentiment, the the battery will die after a year and will no longer be able to be charged with the AC adapter.

Dell :: 1530 Battery Life

Oct 8, 2008

Ive always gotten, well, not so much battery life out of my machine. However, today Ive realized it might be a problem with it, rather than how it is meant to work. Today I put a DVD (AC/DC live!), plugged an hdmi cable into my tv, and it died half way the 2 hour concert. All my laptop was doing was working as a dvd, so, I figure something must be wrong.

Dell :: XPS 1530 9 Cell Battery

Apr 24, 2008

I'm getting ready to order my XPS1530, waiting for the screen issue to be sorted out, hoping to hear that the Samsung has been dropped in favour of the LG.

On my current laptop, an Inspiron 8600 I have the 2nd modular bay battery to give me extra uptime when on the move. As the 1530 doesn't have this option I've been thinking about the 9 cell battery. Now in all the places I might be when I buy it, the UK, India or Singapore a 9 cell costs an extra 100 pounds (200 US$) over the 6 cell. This seems a lot extra to pay for an unknown quantity of extra uptime, I don't think I should assume I get a straight 50% more.

Dell :: Little Circle That Looks Like A Watch Under The Battery (1530)

I just received my XPS 1530 and after a thorough inspection, everything seemed ok. But then I removed the battery and I found this little circle that looks like a watch battery the size of a penny and it looks it either melted, was hammered in to fit the hole and it is all discolored. Not sure what it is and if it should look like that.

I attached a pic. Does yours look like that?

Dell :: XPS 1530 Shuts Off When 'playing' Game On Battery Power

Jan 18, 2009

I say 'playing' because I never actually get there. Say, Im on the train, and I'll want to play something.. Assassins Creed. I load it up, loading screen is fine, the little video opening is fine, as soon as it comes to actually rendering the graphics it jsut turns itself off. I plug it in at home and it runs beautifully, but as soon as I unplug that power cable, the whole thing just turns off.

It reports a windows error after this, but there is nothing in the error log telling me what shut it down. I KNOW this isn't overheating because I can play it fine on power and although it gets hot when playing gfx intense games it has never turned itself offdue to that.

The games I can play on battery are WoW and Cimcity 4 and audiosurf (although that lags alot on battery :) xD

The games I cannot are Assassins Creed and Devil may Cry 4.

Is this a power issue?

I have tried on multiple power settings and it still likes to turn off when I want to play these games. It may be a GPU power issue?

Dell :: SXPS1645/7 Another Power Brick

Mar 22, 2010

I would like to bring this to attention for the community, as it recently happened to my SXPS1647. This happens with the 90w brick and only on certain firmwares. The proc in my system is the core i7 620m.

One night just before bed i closed the lid on my laptop to put it to sleep and then turned off the TV, but then i heard a strange high pitched sound coming from the laptop area. I went back and investigated and there was a strange sound coming from the power brick. The best way I can describe it is the sound of electricity moving, a wave like sound that gets higher and lower pitched. Very concerning, so I call Dell and tell them the problem they send a new motherboard and ac adapter.

The dell tech comes to my house and says that's the strangest thing he has ever seen/heard. So he tries the new ac adapter and same sound so he replaces the mobo. With the new mobo the sound is not present, so im happy. But the computer was throttling really bad so i decided to check the bios with CPUZ and it was A01. I decide to update the bios to get rid of the throttling issues, A05 update went nicely but as soon as I restart the system the magic high pitch sound has returned. The previous mobo had the A04 bios when it was making the sound.

I recently read the whole 90w vs 130w ac adapter and wonder if that has anything to do with this issue?

Dell :: Studio XPS 13 Power Brick Is HOT

If your battery is mostly drained and you plug the thing in, within minutes the brick gets so hot that I'm afraid to let it sit on any surface, much less touch it.

I thought it might just be a defective piece so I got a replacement power adapter and it gets just as hot as the other one. Has anyone else noticed this?

Dell :: New Brick, Older Precision

Mar 11, 2010

guys, can I use the new 210watt power brick with the M6300? and does it weigh less, or is there an after market solution outthere?

I still occasionally use an old 90watt brick but just for short times as it gets hotter than hell.

I'm trying to cut down travel weight, hence the new brick.

Looking ahead I think my next laptop would be something like the M4500 (dropping down a size for mobility) or something from HP. I don't game on laptop anymore, well nothing more than old titles, so just need fast CPU and good screen and something better than integrated.

Dell :: HOW-TO: Repairing A PA-13 (130w) Power Brick

Jan 27, 2008

Well many people seem to suffer from the dreaded brick Failure, I have had a few go crap, and many of those failures usually were traced back to a broken wire in the DC cable assemly. If you wiggle the cable in the area if the strain relief you can usually hear the crackling sound.

I usually find it breaks in the strain relief - See attached Picture.

Fixing this can be easily done with a few items, there are a few little challanges as well.

1. Soldering Iron & Solder
2. Solder Sucker (removing tool) or Solder Wick
3. Wire Cutters
4. pliers, Small Screw drivers
5. Volt Meter (DVM)
6. Electrical tape

If you see Picture 1 of the plug, I just wanted to point out the typical barrel type connector used in the Dell laptops 6000/6400/9400/M1710 Etc.

There are 3 wires to connect here, The Out side Barrel is the Negative supply, The inside Barrel is Postive, and the inside Tip is a Voltage Sense.

I have added some new Pictures to show the inside of the PA-13 brick.

You can see the three connectoins on the bottom side of the board. The spacing is tight, and you can easily solder across two pads, checking for solder bridges is important

Please note, the spaces are small, and you require good eyes, a magnifying glass would help, and some soldering skills.

After your soldered the new connections careful inspection to check for any solder bridges is required.....

Dell :: HDD Clicking Bashes Head Against Brick Wall

Jan 18, 2009

my HDD, when idle, makes access noises every 2 or 3 seconds. The noise sounds like normal HD access noise (like a watch tick), but in a quiet room it can be very annoying after a while. If it was not for the fact that the HDD light does not light up when the noise occurs, I would assume something was accessing the HDD every few seconds or so.

If I used HDPARM, I can kinda stop the noise by setting the drive to 254. TO be honest though, I'm not really sure what this is doing.

The issue is really annoying as a) everyone just says drive failure, but I don't think it is, and b) it seems to be HUGELY common. Some people say it is headparking, but why would a system park heads every 2 seconds?

Has anyone had this issue fixed by having their HD replaced? I cannot stress enough that the "ticking" is not loud and, unless you were in a quiet room you would never notice. It sounds exactly like access sounds, but just every couple of seconds.

Dell :: Studio 1555 Power Brick Clicking

Sep 13, 2009

Had the Studio since Wednesday and its great!

However, the power brick has started to make noises? A series of about 10 clicks in quick sucession repeated twice in a couple of seconds.

It will then go quiet for a while then do it again?

Its also pretty hot, too hot to touch for a while and its hot quickly - in about 10mins from cold.

Should I get a replacement or is this normal?

How do I go about getting it replacd? Sounds like its shorting or something?

Dell Studio 1558 :: Power Brick Buzz / Sizzling Noise

Dec 8, 2012

I have a Dell Studio 1558 and I have some concern about my power brick.  The brick itself makes a light sizzling, buzzing or light crunchy noise which isn't continuous, but is causing me concern.  The computer itself, also makes a similar noise when doing stuff like scrolling down a page in an internet browser.  Every time I press the down arrow and it loads new images, it makes a brief sizzling noise.

When my computer was brand new I brought this up with tech-support and they gave me a new power brick but the noise never went away.  I took a day off work to stay at home and waited for a tech to come to my house so I haven't complained about it since then.  It seems to be an intermittent issue, some days its worse than others, and I've had this computer for about 2-3 years now.

Have there been any recalls on the power supplies for my computer? Aside from making a noise, I haven't noticed any decline in my computers performance, I'm just worried about it shocking me or frying some of the components inside the computer!

HP/Compaq :: HP Dv6-1235cl AC Power (brick) Adapter Buzzing Noises- Normal Or Faulty

Aug 10, 2009

I have been looking online and getting mixed results regarding buzzing noises from ac power adapters. My old hp dv6000 laptop powerbrick did not make buzzing noises as loud as my new dv6-1235cl from costco.

I noticed that a lot of people now hear buzzing noises from their ac adapter. Then I came onto this website.

Is this a bunch of bs or are they for real?

I can hear the buzzing noise when I put my ac adapter on the table, but almost non existent when its on the ground. I want to know if this will be a fire safety hazard in the future? I dont want my house burning down even when this thing is plugged in.

Dell :: New XPS 1530

Oct 12, 2008

Have not had a laptop for a while and when I did get them, I would not hang on to them for long as I never had the need for them. However, my new job will require the use of one. Nice part - they are paying for it.

Ordered the 1530 a few days ago, loaded. Maxed everything out and also opted for the Solid State hard drive. Hopefully it works as advertised.

I do have just a few questions -

1 - Why did Dell pull the higher resolution panels from the options? Only had the option of 1440?

2 - Is Dell still including all the standard XPS goodies you normally get? The case, cd holder, ear buds.. etc etc or have they gotten cheap and no longer do that? Would suck if they don't.

3 - Lastly, I have read about some issues with the Nvidia GPU. I have also read that Nvidia has rectified this issue. Is that the case with newly built/shipping XPS systems?

Dell :: My New XPS 1530

Oct 7, 2008

After 10 days of using my new XPS 1530, I will give it a 8 of 10 rating.

This is a great laptop. Looks great with a solid build. Great performance too. It is more then I thought it would be. A great value especially with the EPP discount I got it with.

The only flaws that I have noticed are the placement of the power connector being on the left side towards the back of the unit with the 2 USB ports very close to it. It seems very cramped to me. Also could have at least 2 more usb ports. But a USB hub takes care of that. I find this setup very ackward. Also the headphone jack being in the front. Again ackward to me. The speakers are very weak also. Finger print reader is very problematic also.
