View 4 RepliesYesterday I took the undercover of my 1747 and I saw a connecteing area where it's noted TV card. It's as small as a wifi connector, and laying just beside the WIFI dongle.
Do you know what kind of cards do I have to buy for it? I never saw such a tiny thing before. People who has tv tuner would you please, tell me what is the card number or the manifacturer? And If it's a good one?
This is for the Dell USA site as of 5/6/2010....any other countries and/or times YMMV
There are some notable differences between the 1747 and 1749 being offered via the Dell Studio 17 selector
1749:
ATI 5650
i3-350M, i5-430M, i5-520M (No i5-540M or i7-620M. No Quad Core Options)
1066 memory (Makes sense since dual core i3,i5,i7's only support up to 1066 memory)
9-Cell battery as default option
1yr Warranty default
1080P "RGBLED" panel Description/Product Code = DH1080F / 320-8968
1747:
ATI 4650
i7-720QM, i7-820QM (No dual core options at all)
1333 memory support
9-Cell battery as default option
2-yr warranty default (No 1 yr option)
1080P "B+RG" panel Description/Product Code = CH1080F / 313-8043
Blue Ray RW drives are now an option for both @ $150.00
Intel 6200/6250 options are available for both
I'm definitely curious about the panel changes along with system board revisions to see if the 1749 supports Quad Core CPUs.
I purchased a Studio 1747 from Dell online. On the left side, I have a tv tuner port.
I have tried hooking up an antenna but Windows Media Center does not detect a tv tuner on this laptop.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? or did dell not install the tuner? or is it a dummy port?
To start off, im looking into buying a notebook within the price range of under $1800, and found the studio 1747.
It had all that i needed, core i7, 1tb harddrive (free upgrade option in canada) 6gb of ram (when you upgrade) but lack luster graphics, the ati mobility 4650. I was looking for a notebook with atleast a 5870 mobility but couldnt find any in the specified price range.
My question is, is it possible to swap out a 4650 with a 5870? on desktops as long as there is adequate power you can, but i think the power consumption might be too much. If that is the case, can any one point me in the right direction for a better notebook?
I ordered a 1749 but after typing in my Service Tag on the Dell Driver Update Webpage it states my Studio is a 1747.
My delivery time from order to deliver was 5 days; Friday till Tuesday
After putting up with countless BSOD's and failed harddrives on the Inspiron 1720, they send me a refurbished Studio 1747. Bigger hard drive space, HD screen, and twice the ram are very enticing to keep this machine. But the Inspiron's GPU AND CPU processors are faster (compare Intel Core i7 720QM processor and ATI Mobility Radeon 4650 graphics to the dual 2.0GHz centrino duo nvidia geforce 8600m GT). And I also found it silly that they would include an HD screen but not a blue-ray disc reader. So since DELL told me over the warranty phone line that they would "match the specs of your [my] old computer," should I just keep this or run some benchmarks on some games and figure this out? I don't want to spend more time on this if I have to if it is common knowledge that I got a good ad deal.
edit: forgot to add that the studio runs windows 7 64bit and inspiron is running w7 32 bit
2 years ago i ordered a Vostro 1700 that took ages to arrive because of i think back then screen supply problems.
Now we ordered a few new Studio 1747 with the Core i7 820 procs the order date was 1 December.. But now i got a mail that the delivery date is pushed back to 17 of February!! Wooot???
It seems that dell is many times just saying that you can order new systems but most of the time they can deliver one bit?
Its orderd from dell.nl, how are other orders doing in Europa? Are the 1747 with the Core i7 being delivered in the states?
I've been getting this weird problem with the 'M' key on my keyboard.
It randomly doesn't acknowledge a keystroke. And it's completely intermittent. I'll just notice that an M is missing from my messages or from a URL.
Latest BIOS and Chipset upgrades are installed, that's what Dell Support told me to do. And then nothing.
I really don't want to send my laptop in, it's always such a hassle.
Any ideas? I know if I wait long enough I can just replace the keyboard off of Ebay if it's the hardware that's the problem.
i got the Intel X25-M G2 80GB SSD for Christmas, and i'm looking for some help installing it. Mainly, does anyone know where i can get the hard drive caddy that is apparently needed to install a second drive (my 1747 has just one HDD)?
View 8 Replies View RelatedThis is for me not really acceptable, we are almost in the year 2010 and i find it weird that there are still b/g cards sold....
I definitely dont want only b/g but i do want n (most of us around me now have 50+ Internet connections and i hope the have next year 60/6 or even higher)
Has anyone had their Studio 1747 with a 1080p screen crash while playing 1080p video full screen?
I tried playing a movie trailer full screen in 1080p on youtube and mine crashed.
Configured with a dedicated 1G ATI Radeon HD4650 graphics card, will it run decently with something maybe like Crysis at an HD resolution of 1920x1080?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI know the Studio 1747 has it's fair share of Bios problems that haven't been fixed yet (naughty Dell) but the one I'm having issues with right now is that my system wont boot at all from USB.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIt is an automatic drive. My computer says the bluray drive is working right. Tried right clicking and ejecting and hitting the eject button. It is an automatic slot drive. Tried windows software to find problem and it couldn't work either. It worked just 10 mins before it happened. It is a windows 8 pro OS. HL-DT-ST DVDRWBD CA10N is the drive windows calls it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSorry to bother folks with this nuisance, however, I updated my ATI Mobility Radeon 4650 drivers via Dell's website to 8.65 and ever since, the Catalyst Control Center refuses to run. I politely click on it, the machine thinks for a while and then, rather rudely, simply ignores my request.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer is the dell 1747 Studio Laptop running Windows 7 Professional. It has the built-in Synaptics Touch Pad. When you drag your finger on the far right side of the pa, it auto scrolls through the document on the screen.
I use my Laptop almost exclusively with a remote desktop connection. I process large documents (some as many as 200 pages). If I accidentally drag my hand or finger up or down on the left side of the touch pad, it begins to scroll. Since it is a remote desktop connection, it will not stop scrolling until it reaches the end of the document either up or down. I have to sit and wait for it to finish scrolling before I can use the computer again.
I would like to know how to turn OFF auto scrolling on the touch pad. There is a "wheel" setting in the device setup menu but you can only turn it down to "1" not "zero".
I just bought a Studio 1749 with a Dutch US international keyboard. The US backlit keyboard is the only backlit one and not an option here.
The only difference is the missing € symbol at key number 5, for which I don't care so much.
Now I'm trying to find the US backlit keyboard at eBay or Amazon without success. Is there a way to find one aftermarket and get it shipped to Europe?
my studio 1747 (not in warranty) (i7 win7),has stopped booting anymore it was working fine till last week ( occasionally my screen does flick in last coupon of month), So when I do turn my system on all upper volumn light flashes from left to right and then right to left and then system turn off itself, during that period screen show no display.
connecting external monitor (TV via hdmi) does work and system boots fine show display on external monitor but no display on system LCD. Something display flicks on external montor also, it happens when my laptop LCD tries to display something (i.e. sometime laptop LCD flicks and sometime it display for few seconds and then go back to Black screen). Also when connect external monitor my mouse pad stops work and sometime works when I connect usb mouse, but when LCD screen start display something, mouse pad also starts work.I tried all stuff, whatever I could find on internet as below Â
1) Taking battery off and press power button for 1 min. Â
2) Hold 'D' key and then press power button LCD sometime show some color and then goes back to black. Â
3) Removed battery and CMOS battery to total drain of charges. Â
4) Removed keyboard panel and checked LCD display cable and make sure its not loose.
To me it seems like motherboard, graphic card are fine as system is working on external monitor, LCD screen also looks fine as sometime is display and not greying out (its either Black-out or display). As I have also checked cable is properly attached with motherboard, so it can't be loose connection. Don't understand why LCD works sometime.
Does anyone have any idea why? Is this something affecting Dell globally or is it just UK/Europe in a mess?
I guess I could survive with just wireless G, but it seems ridiculous to be limited to that these days;
I guess I could also just order it and pick up an intel/dell Wireless N card for ~£25 and install it myself,
but again the question arises, why is it necessary? I assume some of you do have an 802.11n card of some description in your 1645/1747's have you seen any problems with it? .....
I'm university student and ntb is meant to be carried almost daily (16" is ok for me), it's mainly for multimedia oriented jobs, some programming in C and Mathematica, some photoshop or even premiere (occasionaly), A LOT of movie watching. I also want it to be futureproof and well-built.
Dell XPS 1645 meets most of my criteria, but there are few things I'm unsure about...
1) after reading a couple of reviews and many posts on this forum I'm really doubtful if RGB-LED is worth the extra money. I'm not doing colour sensitive job (however I do sometimes edit RAW images in PS), but i want things on the display to look natural, especially in FullHD movies... (and I'm occasional gamer too)
Those who had honor to work with RGB-LED: would you pay for it in my position???
And just to make sure I haven't overlooked something: biggest DISadvantages of RGB-LED are supposed to be: inaccurate colors, bigger power consumption and some heat produced;
while advantages should be: 0,4" gain in size, wider gamut and (maybe) better brightness...
Do you know any more to be added?
2) I'm also considering usual Studio 17 with Core i7 720QM (almost the same config), because it should be cooler, it has numpad and place for additional hdd (I'd buy 80GB intel ssd 34nm for system while keeping stock 500GB for data, I think it's beatiful idea), but what I DISlike about studio 17 is: dimensions, weight, speakers and design (and maybe a bit worse overal built quality).
So which one do you think is better for me?
3) how does combined e-sata/usb work? Since I have a external e-sata drive I have to plug 2 cables at the moment: USB for power and e-sata... With this 2-in-1 port do I need only 1 special cable? Or is it meant to be either/or thing??? From the placement of combined e-sata/usb on the opposite side of ntb than other USBs I'd say that 1 cable should be enough,
I got my laptop back from repair and the papers that came with it said that they not only replaced the LCD screen, but also updated the BIOS to the lates version--1.24
I was messing around with my laptop and the various thermal monitoring programs it has while searching the net why the hell my by-core temps always gets stuck at startup. I kept reading on BIOS, BIOS, BIOS. So I went to acer.com.sg for hopes that a newer 1.25 or so BIOS would be available for my Ciel Noir.
Surprise surprise, they have only the 1.16 (came with my laptop when it was new) and the 1.23 BIOS (mine was presently 1.24, and they don't have it). I downloaded it anyway, and checked the readme. I noticed that the flash utility .exe was named JALA0123.exe and then I noticed through HWMonitor 1.14 that my motherboard was marked JALA0 so hmm...this prompted me to flash the BIOS.
Booted up, got into Windows, fired up HWMonitor and what do you know, now it's working!! HWMonitor reads a different TJMax though, so I adjusted it to be the same as CoreTemp's and Everest, and now it's showing (I hope) correct temps.
Now my question is this: Why does the BIOS that comes from Acer directly i.e. after purchase or repair makes the sensors not work? And why are these BIOSes not available online? Is it possible that they use BIOSes that are for different laptop models, hence rendering the addresses for the thermal monitors different from the actual ones? (I read up that thermal sensors depended on the correct addresses, too.)
Updated: Found a better way to backup Bios only, Please see the end of this message
Let say your Vaio Z is using Bios R4040M3 and you move to Bios R4041M3 to use the official VT support. Later on, you want to move back to R4040M3 to use the Advance Menu hack. Unfortunately, you cannot move back as Sony never publish the R4040M3 Bios update. This is my current situation.
I decided to investigate a way to back up the current Bios. Using a program called Universal extractor, I managed to extracted the files in the original Bios update. The bios update uses a program called Insydeflash to flash the Bios. The Insydeflash uses a file called platform.ini to control its setting.
In the platform.ini file, there is a section called [FDFile]. The section [FDFile] has a parameter called BackupName. If we put in a file name here, the Insydeflash should save your current Bios into that file. Unfortunately, I cannot make it work with the Sony supplied Insydeflash. (version 3.38).
I managed to get the newer version of Insydeflash (version 3.72). The newer version has a new ini section called [BackupROM], as the following:
..........
[BackupROM]
Flag=0
FilePath=c:
FileName=....................
There are a lot of BIOS MOD request forums out there but most of them only specialize in SLIC modification. Our job is to unlock hidden menu in the BIOS. We don't want to use "specialize" word here but we know the "how" to get the job done. Based on the old thread Acer Laptop with Phoenix BIOS: Enable Virtualization, we decided to open new thread which specifically deals with BIOS MOD requests.
Other BIOS modder (bob12x, Darkening & others) and I will help you to unlock hidden menu(s) such as Intel Virtualization Menu and Intel Speedstep Technology.............
I've run into an issue that has stricken every single laptop, regardless of OS, that I've ran that has an intel 4965N WiFi card. Dell Latitudes, Inspirons, Acers, HPs, Lenovos, Toshibas, Gateway, Sony, XP, Vista, Server 2008, Windows 7, 32 bit, 64 bit.
Transfers of large files to my NAS, such as DVD ISOs, system images, or VMware images, will result in a failed transfer 100% of the time.
The issue does not occur with Broadcom or Atheros cards, or intel cards such as the the 2915ABG, 2200BG, 5100N, 5300N, 5350N. Just the 4965N.
I have an intel 5100N card I bought for a friend to use in a laptop, but he opted to use a Broadcom card that was supported in OSX. I'd like to use it in the HP to fix this issue, but unfortunately, HP's current whitelisting of WiFi cards prevents me from doing so. find a BIOS that will let me use my 5100N?
Is there a guide that explains how it is possible to successfully edit a bios file for flashing? Or could a person explain how it should be done
