The Vista 64 bit driver exists stating that no hardware was found. Dell supports says this laptop was specifically designed for Vista, no Win 2008 support if provided.

I sucessfully installed windows 2003 server on Dell Latitude E6400. All the devices are working fine now. I would like to share with you my experience as below:
1. Suppose you have successfully installed Windows 2003 on Dell E6400: there are many topics instruct how to ingergrate the SATA controller driver to windows installer using nlite. I will not repeat this.
2. You MUST know exactly what the device model in your machine: harddrive, network card, wireless card, video card. I get this information because i have installed windows Vista on this machine before .....

I am trying to install Windows 2003 Server with dual-booting Windows Vista on Pavilion Dv5 64-Bit Machine.
Is there a collection of drivers which can be used Windows 2003 Server.
Having some driver difficulties on my Z21WN/B here.
Specifically, the wifi and 3G drivers won't work.
I've tried the Vista x64 drivers for both.
The wifi driver installs okay and it doesn't complain at all. Problem is, when I search for networks in range, it never finds any.
However, with the HSDPA card, it won't accept the drivers at all (says they are not the right drivers for the device).
I just downgraded to Windows 7 from Windows 8.1 and unfortunately the driver for the bluetooth server isn't working on this machine. What are the correct driver for the following bluetooth server device:

I'm curious if the programs are identical, or if there is still a difference between the products? Ideally I'd like to have Office running in OSX, however if I have to I will run it in a VM. Mind you I'd like to avoid the headache of opening a VM to check my mail...
View 9 Replies View RelatedI use RightZoom and have it set to load on startup. I've noticed that Office 2008 in particular -- whether it be Entourage or Word (or any other piece of the suite) -- tends to not care what the last used window size and position was. Every time I open the program, the window appears large, but in the middle of the display -- not "maximized" in the sense that its top border is even with the bar, and its bottom border is more or less even with the bottom of the screen. Entourage refuses to properly full-zoom at all, even if I'm clicking away at the zoom button. how to change that behavior?

I am trying Windows 7 on my Latitude E6400, and I am having two a little issue for the system.
First issue is despite enabling advance performance for the drive under Device manager, Windows 7 gives me score or 2.0, than in Vista the score is significantly higher in the 5.0 range. My HDD is the Hitachi 5400RPM 160GB.
Second issue is, I don't know what I missed when installing the drivers/software, but I don't have the on-screen volume control. But the ambient light sensor, brightness level and keyboard backlit mode, does appear.
I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on my e6400 with p9500, 256mb graphics, 4gb ram and 256gb SSD. First, 7 BLOWS Vista to shreds regarding speed. It is unreal how clean and efficient it is. My first question is in the power settings, high performance is gone. Anyone know why? Also, the Windows Performance Rating shows the following:
Processor: 6.1
RAM: 6.1
Graphics: 3.4
Gaming Graphics: 5.3
Primary HD: 6.9
The scoring goes up to 7.9. Do you guys think those are low? I'm surprised gaming graphics are higher than Aero graphics and that the hard disk is only a 6.9 and the processor is only 6.1.
we have server at work and we trying to have a folder on ut that anyone can access. the problem is everytime you clic on the short cut it will ask you to log on to the server,
can I creat a shared folder hat doesn't require loging on every single time.
I'm considering this upgrade, but I only have vanilla install disks.
Are there issues running a non-Dell OS on an XPS M1330? I seem to recall reading something about this here, but cannot find the related thread(s).
I understand about having to find all the drivers (I have read much of the Vista 64 upgrade thread by Trebuin [thx, T - brilliant work!]), but don't want to go through the pain if a vanilla OS disk won't 'cut it'.

Latest BIOS, DCP drivers, etc
Not sure if anyone else is running into this but I will put my computer into hibernate by closing the lid and toss it in my bag. Works for about 5-7 hibernates and then sometimes it will look like it is hibernating, but the machine never turns off. I open the lid and see that the keyboard backlight is on and the num lock or caps lock will go on and off, but I can't get the screen back. I can only hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then restart.
Just ordered E6400 with Windows Vista Home Basic and will install Windows XP SP2 as soon as it is landed. Is there anything I need to know before installing XP in E6400 (e.g. back up driver, compatibility with hardware, etc)?
