My brother gave me an older Dell laptop (about 3 yrs old I think) that had a dead battery, broken screen, dead touch pad, and other misc problems.
I was wondering if I could take off the screen and use an external mouse and monitor?
This would be used to replace my moms old HP desktop running Windows 95 until she has enough money to get her own machine
I have a problem with my dell e1705 laptop. I was trying to set up an external monitor, after installing the drivers that came with the monitor i couldn't get the laptops internal monitor to start back up. I tried restarting with the external monitor unplugged but the laptops screen just glows with no picture. can anyone tell me how to enable my internal monitor? Only the external monitor shows up when i try to switch displays in the nvidia controlpanal.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking on using my MBA as my main computer, therefore I'm considering buying the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and the Mighty Mouse and hooking up to my HP Monitor for when I'm at my desk for long periods.
It's very easy to hook up ... this MBA seems quick enough and a usb hub can be added if need be ... why not use it as a main pc?
Further, the only windows app I'm really going to miss is Publisher, I'm thinking on being daring and installing Vista on the Mac with Bootcamp and then run Publisher in Windows. If that worked well I could get rid of the T500... (I have a desktop I could use for heavier app's, movie/music downloading) ...
Seems like a lot of work for such a small little machine, lol, can it handle it? Has anyone there done this before with success?

At the moment it happened, the lcd starts flipping out, eventually turns solid white, then shutting down.
Did a complete disasemmble and cleaned every piece with contact cleaner. The laptop functions 100% now....except one small irritation..
The screen goes black at random. Sometimes 30 seconds after boot...sometimes 5 or 6 hours...The Power indicator, baterry light and wifi lights all stay on green as if the computer is still running. I have to hold the power button down to shut it off and it reboots with the desktop recovery white screen.
I am just after some Inspiron 15r has developed a fault with white screen. I have tried connecting it to an external monitor through the vga and the hdmi port but still get the same fault.

Tried using Projects and clicking on single laptop display, but if I disconnect the external monitor, the laptop screen just goes black. Not very portable if I have to lug around a second display.

The video test worked fine on LCD.Flashed BIOS to A15, updated video drivers. Not sure what is still causing issue. I have also removed memory and replaced it. I am at my wits end.

I have connected my monitor to an external monitor. It works fine. Only problem I have ( and a little irritating one) is that the external monitor picks up display only after Windows is loaded. Pre-OS screens like BIOS settings, GRUB loader (I have Installed Linux ) doesn't show up)
Is this an issue with BIOS? Because, when I connect HP dv6000 to my monitor, I can see the BIOS screen as well. I am sure the problem is not with the monitor.
The BIOS is responsible for detecting displays before the OS is loaded right? I checked BIOS settings and there is nothing to indicate the display ports/devices (however, this page on HP website shows a BIOS screen "Advanced" which apparently has those settings)

Tried another monitor as well. My laptop screen is lit up as always, and I can see some movement when I cntrl alt delete, but I can't read anything to see what's wrong.Is it my video card? View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with my Inspiron N5010 screen, it doesn't work when switching on my laptop on Battery or AC mode. It happens a lot of times when I turn on the laptop the power button, the power indicators at the bottom turns on normally and the laptop is running without any weird sounds. But the screen is pitch black even doesn't show up anything when I concentrate on it in with a lamp or any light.
When I press the power button again even after 5 mins from the start time of being running the laptop just turn off immediately and doesn't take time to switch off as If the windows wasn't loaded!
I was resolving this problem by disconnecting the AC adapter > removing the battery > Pressing and hold the power button for 20 seconds technique.but today it doesn't work anymore, If there's anything I can do to get the screen backlight to work normally ....
I have a latitude E6430s running windows 7. I have it docked using a dell docking station, and have 2 dell monitors connected using dvi. With this configuration if I have the 2 monitors running I can't get any picture on the laptop screen. View 1 Replies View Relatedi have a ACER Travelmate 2482WXMi, i have done a fresh install of windows XP home, i have done a full format of the hard drive, but i have issues the touchpad will not work only in safe mode. I have installed most of the drivers through safe mode, but the mouse will only work when i connect an external mouse when it's in normal mode.
Also i do get some bad sectors on the hard drive, and it takes over 2mins to shut down the comp. I havent installed programs yet, except PC Wizard 2008. Also the laptop is not the base model with 512MB ram i have added a 1gb stick and it works fine. I am thinking maybe its the hard drive. If

I have already ordered a screen and a dock to replicate this setup in a foreign country and the kit is on its way including a second Yoga 2 pro!
i dissasembled my presario cq60 and when i put it together the monitor won't activate.
i tried using an external monitor and the monitor refused to turn on from standby, a safety feature of the monitor. the small card in the underneath with 2 wires leading 2 the monitor, (i assume that is the laptop version of a graphics card) is fine, inserted properly, and i had a slight issue with the plugs fitting, but that was soon resolved.
I have an old desktop computer that I want to try to get running again. Is it possible for me to hook up my Dell E1705 to the tower so I can use it as a monitor?
My e1705 is about 3 years old.
I am giving some demos and have hooked up a tv with the e1705 and the Vista mobility center.
After doing this, my laptop screen no longer extends the full 17" width. I'm only seeing a 15" width.
This happens even after I detach the tv and change the display settings.
I noticed this problem with my studio 1537, I usually use a external bluetooth mouse at home, but I don't bring it to school. When I do use the mouse I disable the mouse touchpad.
However the problem is that if i kept the mouse on and connected and allow the laptop to sleep, when I turn it on the next day at school I don't have mine external mouse with me and the touchpad is still disabled, which I thought it would have automatically enable itself since it doesn't detect an external mouse.
I was just wondering if anyone does this and might have already figured out a way to solve the problem. So far the only way I can fix this problem at school without using external mouse is to restart the laptop all over after I wake it up from sleep first.
Is there any way to use an external monitor with the XPS 13. It would make working with photos on the road much easier.

But when I switch to external monitor (TV) via Fn-F8, the screen switches to 1024x768 (TV starts showing in that resolution too), and there is no way I can raise the resolution.
But I really want HD 1080i !
I know my TV can support it, as I can switch my XBMC to 1080i and TV switches to it.
I tried to play with PowerStrip options, without much luck.
Is there any way to achieve my goal?
