Dell Inspiron 15R :: White Screen Even When External Monitor Connected
Feb 25, 2013
I am just after some Inspiron 15r has developed a fault with white screen. I have tried connecting it to an external monitor through the vga and the hdmi port but still get the same fault.
My laptop was working correctly and then I booted up one day, the bios worked fine but then the screen went black. I connected an external monitor to the lap-top and the laptop display works fine. As soon as I remove the external monitor, again, I get a black screen on my lap-top.
I have run the full system option of the Dell diagnostics and have 2 errors, battery and dvd flash rom. I have ordered a new battery. I have also noticed that my lap-top does appear to get quite hot.
I purchased a Dell XPS L502X laptop about 2.5 years. It crashes when you connect an external monitor, not immediately, but normally about an hour or two while connected. Its not a blue screen crash, everything freezes and the external monitor displays multicolored patterns. In the end I have to do a hard reset.
I have tested different monitors and HDMI cables and found no changes. Luckily the laptop is still under warranty and has Dell technical support has:
-run all possible diagnostics -updated all drivers -replaced the hard-drive (after formatting the previous hard-drive) -Got me to test individual RAM units one by one -Replaced the motherboard (twice)
At the moment, I am still dealing with Dell tech support and after the most recent motherboard replacement they are asking me to test it with different monitors using different cables. Although this is the next step, I'm skeptical it will make a difference, firstly as I have done this already with no difference and secondly because I am currently using the monitor and HDMI cable on a much older Dell Inspiron 1525 and its working 100% fine. If it continues to crash after this step they want me to once again format the hard-drive, re-install everything and test it again.
When i turn on the laptop, display doesn't turn on even when external monitor connected via VGA/HDMI.. I hear CPU Fan sound, keyboard lights on, power light on.
Tried (and sometimes successful) to connect HDTV to laptop, Inspiron 5720. Now laptop screen does not display (goes black) without an external monitor physically attached. Tried using Projects and clicking on single laptop display, but if I disconnect the external monitor, the laptop screen just goes black. Not very portable if I have to lug around a second display.
I am working on my mom's Dell Inspiron n5010 Laptop. I have replaced motherboard, LCD and video/camera cable. Still getting 8 beeps until windows starts up. The video test worked fine on LCD.Flashed BIOS to A15, updated video drivers. Not sure what is still causing issue. I have also removed memory and replaced it. I am at my wits end.
Inspiron 1300, been plugging an external monitor in & using function F8 for years but it just failed. The monitor isn't recieving the signal anymore. Tried another monitor as well. My laptop screen is lit up as always, and I can see some movement when I cntrl alt delete, but I can't read anything to see what's wrong. Is it my video card? Is that the thing I plug my VGA cord for the monitor into?
I have an issue with my Inspiron N5010 screen, it doesn't work when switching on my laptop on Battery or AC mode. It happens a lot of times when I turn on the laptop the power button, the power indicators at the bottom turns on normally and the laptop is running without any weird sounds. But the screen is pitch black even doesn't show up anything when I concentrate on it in with a lamp or any light.
When I press the power button again even after 5 mins from the start time of being running the laptop just turn off immediately and doesn't take time to switch off as If the windows wasn't loaded!
I was resolving this problem by disconnecting the AC adapter > removing the battery > Pressing and hold the power button for 20 seconds technique.but today it doesn't work anymore, If there's anything I can do to get the screen backlight to work normally ....
Just a few coke drops spilled on the upper right side of the keyboard. Right around the backspace key.
At the moment it happened, the lcd starts flipping out, eventually turns solid white, then shutting down.
Did a complete disasemmble and cleaned every piece with contact cleaner. The laptop functions 100% now....except one small irritation..
The screen goes black at random. Sometimes 30 seconds after boot...sometimes 5 or 6 hours...The Power indicator, baterry light and wifi lights all stay on green as if the computer is still running. I have to hold the power button down to shut it off and it reboots with the desktop recovery white screen.
i have an inspiron 1420, and want to bring it around school, i usually use it as a desktop at home using an external monitor(FN + F8), for some reason my laptop only works when plugged with a monitor, the laptop monitor is blank but you can see light at least, but no images whatsoever. I got it to work after reformatting the second time but not the 3rd 4th or 5th time.
I've noticed something strange though when formatting with xp, the letters were both gray and red, and when it gets to the page with the estimation(usually about 30 minutes) the picture quality was crap like 4bit.
I've noticed that when i successfully got the laptop monitor working the picture quality ran at a full 32bit
I have connected my monitor to an external monitor. It works fine. Only problem I have ( and a little irritating one) is that the external monitor picks up display only after Windows is loaded. Pre-OS screens like BIOS settings, GRUB loader (I have Installed Linux ) doesn't show up)
Is this an issue with BIOS? Because, when I connect HP dv6000 to my monitor, I can see the BIOS screen as well. I am sure the problem is not with the monitor.
The BIOS is responsible for detecting displays before the OS is loaded right? I checked BIOS settings and there is nothing to indicate the display ports/devices (however, this page on HP website shows a BIOS screen "Advanced" which apparently has those settings)
(HP 2000 Notebook PC / Windows 8.1, 64 Bit) Blank screen always, external monitor works fine. What components could be malfunctioning? This occured about six months ago, approximately one week after the one year warranty expired.
I discovered that my display wasn't turning on yesterday when I tried turning on my notebook. Luckily I was able to plug it into an external monitor with a VGA cable and I have a monitor in my office, but I really cannot be restricted to my living room or office to use my laptop.
I have hp g61 for a while, i have been maintaining really good till recent my screen went BLACK.. it was acting funny before as it stays ON after i turn of the laptop... and now it is all back cant see nothing ... the laptop works fine when i connect to external monitor..
Screen went black and turning on off does not get it to work. After searching tried a few of the suggested fixes for other models and no luck. Does not work with external monitor either. Are there any known bios fixes for this model...
I have a latitude E6430s running windows 7. I have it docked using a dell docking station, and have 2 dell monitors connected using dvi. With this configuration if I have the 2 monitors running I can't get any picture on the laptop screen. I wanted to be able to use all 3 screens at the same time is this even possible, how to have all 3 screen working at the same time.
I don't wan turn on both laptop screen and my external monitor at the same time. So is there any way to make my laptop screen auto turn off as soon as I plug my external monitor vga cable to my laptop (without pressing Fn + F2 Keys) ??
I have been using an external LCD monitor hooked to my inspiron 6400 for 6 months, everything is fine. but 2 days ago when I moved the laptop a little far away from its old place,
I tried to add a 6-feet VGA extension cable to the present VGA cable of the external monitor . the image with extension cable is horrible, so I take the extension cable off and move the laptop back to the old place. and a problem showed up:
when I hook my inspiron 6400 to the external LCD monitor via VGA port on the laptop, some regions of the image on the external monitor flash (if I put on a document, the words are shaking, or "dancing"),
for example the upper right corner, and the middle section of the screen are doing this right now. and if I take the VGA cable off and put it back on, the flashing region changes. but one thing for sure: Not all the screen flash, only several regions.
I am using Dell Vostro 1015 laptop, Windows 7 32 bit OS.I am having problem with external monitor connection. When I connect external monitor to my laptop, it detects external display but doesn't show anything on external monitor and laptop screen also turns black. There is no problem with external monitor but with laptop hardware or something. I tried to connect many external monitors but in vane.
I purchased my laptop about two years ago. A few days ago, the screen suddenly dies, and on boot, it flickers a few times with the proper display, but then goes blank. The backlight seems to remain on though. When I use an external monitor with the HDMI port, the external monitor works fine, however the laptop screen remains blank. Here's a video of what it looks like when I first boot the laptop: [URL] .....
I have an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 and ti works great however when I plug it into an external monitor LG W300H the resolution displayed is quite low. I try to choose a higher one but there are no options for higher resolutions. It's actually quite a bit lower than the resolution displayed on the laptops own screen.
I recently just purchased and received a fancy Dell e6400 from one of the many dell deals. My eyes are light sensitive from looking at many computer screens over the years and due to this I avoid LCD screens and much prefer flat CRT monitors. My goal is to use the e6400 as my workstation computer while using the VGA out to power my 19in Sony CRT .....
I have just taken delivery of my Yoga 2 pro but I am struggling with the setup and cannot get a proper duplicated screen using a Kensington 3.0 Superspeed dock. The Yoga has a resolution of 3200x1800 and my spare screen is a BENQ G2420HD at 1980x1080.
I have already ordered a screen and a dock to replicate this setup in a foreign country and the kit is on its way including a second Yoga 2 pro!
i dissasembled my presario cq60 and when i put it together the monitor won't activate.
i tried using an external monitor and the monitor refused to turn on from standby, a safety feature of the monitor. the small card in the underneath with 2 wires leading 2 the monitor, (i assume that is the laptop version of a graphics card) is fine, inserted properly, and i had a slight issue with the plugs fitting, but that was soon resolved.
I have a XPS L702X, purchased it last year at the beginning of the summer. After a couple of weeks of use, the colors would change on the screen and the screen would start flickering. The dell people did a remote assistance and updated the bios and graphics software. It stopped for a little while. Then the colors would just change but not flickering yet. Then it started all over again, but now it would flash and lock up my keyboard, but I could still control the mouse with an external one. So I got a live CD to see if that works and it runs, but the screen still flashes white and gets static. I can see the desktop and move the mouse but it eventually turns all white and static comes through the speakers. Now the computer will not even turn on at times, it sounds like it is booting up, but then just shuts off.
I have also tried doing a system restore but it will not stay on long enough to go through the process, this last time it shut down completely before even finishing.
I have also tried using an external monitor and it will go through until the screen starts flickering.
We replaced the motherboard. Then it would start up but then shut back down. Swapped out the video card on a hunch, then we got a white screen with an odd color line through it periodically.
We can plug it into another monitor and it works fine so we're getting output.
Would this mean my screen is shot? If so, are there other models that will have compatible screens (17" XPS, for example)
I have a inspiron 3520 laptop. A little over a year old. Lately my screen has been going white with black lines and swirls going through it. Sometimes it will clear right up and sometimes I have to restart the computer. I have tried installing My Dell Client but it will not install.
My dell laptop worked perfectly for around 6 months. After that i have had to use my TV as a monitor via HDMI. Basically on start up the screen goes black and slowly turns to white with multi-coloured lines running vertically down it. It first started to play around not long after i had bought it, the screen would freeze and seem to slowly become faded and lose colour but if i flipped the screen up and down a little it would work fine again but after abut a month of being able to jiggle it back to a working state it completely went. I have spoken to a local PC reapir shop who have quoted me around £150-175 to fix this.
I have researched this problem thoroughly on the internet to find that this particular model is prone to issues like mine and others in regards to its screen. Using my TV as a monitor, the visuals are all fine.
I have downloaded the latest drivers for literally everything. Bios, Graphics... You name it, I have tried it in multiple attempts to try and fix this.
My laptop is no longer under warranty but this issue seems to affect a lot of this particular model.
