Dell :: E4300 Alps Alternative Mouse Driver/Software?

May 11, 2009

The E4300 uses the Dell Touchpad driver and I think it feels very buggy.
It looks like the Dell uses an Alps hardware

This is probably the first time where I'm quite annoyed by a touchpad/buttons. The touchpad buttons do not always respond immediately, sometimes requiring two presses to click.

And sometimes, when I'm using the touchpad, it will automatically click on a link I didn't intend to.

I know this seems minor, but it's quite annoying at times. I almost returned the laptop because of it, but now I'm trying to live with it but it would be most helpful if there was an alternative.

Dell :: E4300 WWAN Antenna Alternative

Jan 20, 2010

I have an E4300 and an E6400. The E6400 came with a 5530 WWAN chip, which I would like to move into my E4300 instead. When opening the WLAN/WWAN compartment of the E4300 however there does not seem to be any wiring for the GSM card.

I then found some antenna wires leading to the Latitude ON slot. Since I really doubt I will be getting a Latitude ON chip in the near future, would I be able to run these wires to the WWAN card?

Dell :: New Alps Touchpad Driver From

Oct 10, 2008

I just installed it again (first time didn't work!) and it works now on my M1530.. and I must say its pretty awesome.. touchpad feels better than before, the scrolling functions are working fine and also the left vertical zoom in and zoom out settings.

^ Link to the driver in the above post.

Considering many XPS users are using this new driver, here is the link (same as the one in my initial post above, but posting the link here again so that people can get it right away) this is not to mean a repeat post from me..

Dell :: Looking For Studio 14z Alps Touchpad Driver

Oct 11, 2009

I went on dells website and couldn't find the studio 14z drivers.

I heard the studio 14z supports multitouch. Also it has the same touchpad as my toshiba. Currently I'm using a dell driver for my touchpad.

But I would like multitouch, so I hope to find the studio 14z driver.

Or any other dell driver that supports multitouch and is for the alps touchpad.

Dell :: Model For Best Alps Touchpad Driver?

Does anyone know what the most modern DELL system is that has the best Alps driver support for features such as tapping and scrolling?

The drivers I have for my Alps touchpad from another manufacturer do not have any support for things such as Browser back-button or continuous scrolling (by leaving your finger at the edge of the touchpad after moving across it).

Dell Latitude E4300 :: Disable Touchpad - Mouse Is Jumping All Over The Screen

Aug 18, 2009

Mouse is jumping all over the screen - I believe because it is easy to accidentally brush the touchpad while typing.

The Control Panel - Mouse on this Latitude no longer has an option to independently enable/disable the touchpad and the pointing stick - but surely there is a way to do this on this e4300.

Am running XP - 32bit.

Dell Inspiron N5510 :: Can't Install Alps Touchpad Win 8 Driver On Laptop

Mar 12, 2013

I recently installed Windows 8, and I am trying to get the latest Dell drivers for Windows 8.  I can download the Alps_Touchpad_W8_X02_A01_Setup-CXWXW_ZPE driver, but when running the exe it fails to extract the files.  All I get is in the extracted C:DellDriversCXWXW folder is a Version.txt file.  There is a popup that then asks if I would like to run in compatibility mode, but doing that does not work either.  Also, running as administrator does not work.

Dell :: 17R N7110 Alps Touchpad Driver Starts Or Loads Too Slowly

Apr 7, 2014

My touchpad works with the recommended Dell Alps Touchpad driver installed. It seems clear that this driver (apoint.exe) is only required for gesture control of the Touchpad, and this is my problem.

I start my laptop (Windows 7 Pro 64 bit) and use auto login. The laptop is quickly ready to use. I open firefox or other programs, but I can't scroll with the touchpad. The apoint.exe hasn't started faster than I have, and the gesture controls are not recognised when I use them. When I wait a few seconds, the driver is then active, and the gesture controls work.

This is highly annoying ! I don't have many programs running at start up (I've just done a clean Windows 7 install). My anti virus software does take some time to come up, but its not excessive.

How can I increase the priority of the touchpad driver apoint.exe which I can see in msconfig ? It needs to be up and running fast.

Is it possible to somehow set a group policy in Windows 7, so that this program is running before login is allowed ?

I've tried the recommended Dell driver, and also tried a later version which I found via searching on the Dell web site. Both drivers work fine, but they both take too long to load.

Currently the driver is 8.15.10.1855.

EDIT: Never mind. According to the Adobe release notes PDF, support starts with driver version 8.15.10.2021. Looks like we're outta luck until Dell releases a newer driver.

Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga S Series :: S1 - Wireless Lan Driver Fails / Trackpad Acts As Simple Mouse

Jun 23, 2014

I got my self a Thinkpad S1 Yoga (20CD) and I have two issues;

1) The wireless lan driver fails and startup. (Dual Band AC 7260)
2) The trackpad acts as a simple mouse. (ultranav driver is installed)

I'm running Windows 8.1pro (x64). All drivers are updated and the BIOS is updated.

The wireless lan driver starts normally when I disable USB3 support in the bios or disable the "Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 0100 (Microsoft)" in de device manager.

When I disable and enable the wireless lan driver again the driver works normally.

The trackpad does not support actions like scrolling.

Dell :: Better Tap Speed For 1545's Alps Pad?

Jun 6, 2009

i've searched around a bit and see i'm not the only one who hates this touchpad (just traded "up" from an 8 year old machine whose pad worked flawlessly), but no-one's mentioned my gripe yet:

the tap speed cannot be adjusted high enough to keep up with the taps when tapping the scrollbar equal to using the button. i use my laptop for newsreading so accurate line-by-line tap-scrolling is something i've come to take for granted, but on this machine

i have to use the button or deal with 2-moves-to-every-5-taps scrolling - unacceptable! especially when machines from 10 years ago are care-free. having this pad on my beautiful new Dell is like getting a new Ferrari with a loose steering wheel

Dell :: Studio 1735 Touchpad- Synaptics Or Alps?

Mar 8, 2009

My touch pad driver recently stopped working the other day. I had not noticed because I always use my VX Nano, but I was out of the house with the laptop for once and had no pointing device when I booted up.

I re-downloaded the Synaptics driver that I had installed previously, but it didn't work. I had to install the Dell driver to get it to work, but on install I noticed it saying it was an Alps, not a Synaptics.

What gives with this? I even remember seeing other posts on here saying to forgo the Dell driver when installing windows and to use the Synaptics driver............................

Dell :: WWAN/GPS Alternative To ControlPoint

Oct 6, 2008

I'm really starting to hate the bloat of controlpoint, but I have a 5530 WWAN card, so need some software to control it, while searching the Dell support site I cam across R198215.EXE which is a Sony Ericsson Wireless Manager for 5530 cards, this is actually intended for use on the Inspiron Mini 910, but it works a treat on the E6500 too.

The download is 72MB but it only seems to install 5MB of software (you could probably trim that down by removing language dlls), you only need to run the software when you actually want to use the card.

I even got the GPS functioning which is more than even the factory installed drivers could manage, the COM7: port was always silent before, now it happily spits out NMEA sentences

Now to remove as much of ControlPoint as I can get away with, hopefully without having to reinstall XP again.

Dell :: Latitude E6410/6510 Alps Track Pad Verdict?

May 6, 2010

I just bought an E6410 tonight, thanks to a 30% off coupon I found.

All of a sudden, however, I'm doubting my purchase - specifically because this machine uses an Alps touchpad, whereas the Vostro 3300 I was going to buy (before I found this coupon) uses a Synaptics touchpad.

The last time I had a machine with an Alps pad was in 2004 with my Latitude D600, and that thing sucked. I mean, it was an atrocious piece of hardware.

So what's the verdict on the hardware in the new E64x machines? Is it painful to use? I found a thread talking about using different OEM drivers to improve the responsiveness of the device - is this still necessary?

Just curious to see what current owners think about this. I still don't understand why Dell's been so dead-set on using Alps hardware since the D-series. My old C600 had a Synaptics trackpad, and I loved that thing.

Dell :: Alternative For Quickset On Vista 64 Bit (Vostro)

Oct 14, 2008

Dell does not release 64-bit Quickset for Vostro 1310 and 1510. The 32-bit ones won't work on 64 bit Vista.

That means you won't know how loud you change your volume, or whether it is muted or not. I tried to install Quickset x64 for other laptops but all shows "unsupported system" during the installation.

The workaround is to download the latest Dell ControlPoint System Manager.

This is the link: Dell ControlPoint System Manager

It is compatible with E4200, E4300 and M6400. However it installs successfully on my Vostro 1310 running on Vista Business x64. The volume indicators works, the mute notification works, change of brightness works. The only drawback is ControlPoint does not work with wifi/BT indicators. You flip the switch and there won't be any indicators for it on the screen.

Dell :: HOW TO: ALPS Touchpad With Circle Scroll And Back And Forward In Firefox

Oct 12, 2008

I have been looking to make my alps pad better and with some info i found on here i was able to do just that. now i have "back/forward" slide gestures and circle scrolling, in firefox! this will also enables alot more things.

first of all thanks to fonduekid for letting us know of the new drivers.
and to SpotMe for the regedit info.

to start off go HERE, and download that driver.

Install, restart.

after windows restarts run regedit
look for "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREAlpsAPoint"
with in that folder look for "UseCustomGUI"
double click and change the value data to "0"
close regedit

open mouse properties and you will have all the features unlocked. circle scrolling are within the dell tab and the back/forward is under gestures tab.

Unfortunately Alps still will not recognize Firefox. To be able to use the "back and forward" slide gesture you will have to go here and download a firefox addon called nightly tester tools.

once installed, with in firefox go to tools>addons and click on options for Nightly tester tools.
