Dell :: E6400: Plastic Unsnaps From Latch Holder Area
Nov 22, 2009
I dropped my Latitude E6400 while it was in my backpack and the palmrest plastic next to the latch holder unsnapped from the base. I snapped it back in. About a month later, it was unsnapped again and I snapped it back in again. I don't remember dropping it. I wonder:
1. Has this happened to anybody?
2. Do you think I broke anything?

This is hard for me to explain since I know nothing about parts etc. I just received my Studio 17 and am wondering if this is normal: the long compartment seen along the 87 & 95 labels in this pic (not sure what that is) has a latch/fit that seems a bit loose. If I push on it, it makes a "clack" sounds as though the "door" has too much room to move around. Normal and nothing to worry about? Id appreciate if you guys could test yours and see if it makes a noise as well. Thanks.
how often is too often for the fan to be on. It seems to me the fan is on 50-75% of the time....

I'm trying to remove a keyboard from a Studio 1555. I’m at the part where it says, "Disconnect the keyboard cable from the keyboard connector on the system board by rotating the keyboard connector latch towards the front of the computer.
I see the white connector on the cable and I see the black connector on the system board, but for the life of me I don’t see any latch.
Could someone who has experience with this give me an idea of what I should be looking for? The picture in the online service manual is less than enlightening

I have a 17" MBP 2.16 Ghz. I'm having problems with the Lid latching properly. I think my issue is that the magnet on the Right Latch is not strong enough. The hook on the left swings down from the magnet o the right, but the hook on the left does not. It will swing out if I put a magnet close to it.
I used a nail file and can feel magnetic pull over where both magnets should be. I just think the left one is a little too week. This causes only one hook to engage the latch.
Does anyone have pix of these magnets?
Can you purchase them somewhere?
Is there room there to put in a stronger magnet?
If there are any threads out there that show how to repair this, I would love to see it. I've been searching for hours and can't find a thread addressing the magnet issue.
The other thing this does is make it appear the LCD is warped because only one latch grabs, but really the display may not be warped, it just looks like it is because it is only being held by one Latch.

i have a 13 inch macbook pro and the latch cut-out area has cut my finger... yes, thats right, it has extracted blood from my index finger. I thought that the edges on the latch area where sharp but this is ridiculous. I want to call up Apple and complain about this.
Any of you ever had any issues with this? Look at your aluminum macbook and see how sharp those two points are where the opening lid latch is and you will see what i am talking about.

My new X200s has a flacky wireless latch.
Â
Sometimes windows gives the message that all wireless radios are now off. So as if I've switched the hardware switch. But I didn't touch anything.
Â
I think it is hardware related because sometimes I can just yently touch the switch and windows will be telling me that the radios are on again. It is not so much of a problem, but it happens every few hours and fixing it would be nice.
Â
I've removed the keyboard and the palmrest, but the cardbus (?) is still preventing me from having a closer look. Don't know if I can get any closer without removing the entire mainboard. Because that would be a bit too much.

So I ordered my Alienware Area-51 with a bunch of upgrades totaling at something like $5000 on January 22nd. It has been in the "In Production" stage for a while and today they sent me an email saying the delivery date was changed to February 23rd. It was initially supposed to be shipped by February 16th.
So I'm wondering if "In Production" means they have actually started building the computer, or if there is a chance they are still processing payment information. Is there any chance they haven't confirmed the payment at this point, I would consider canceling the order.
Secondly, when Dell gives you a delayed ETA, how often do they delay the system from arriving further? I'm worried that a week and a half from now I will get another email saying I won't be getting my system until March.

How is the area around where the palm rests for the Studio 15? I read one review where it said the palm areas get warm. Is this true?

I went to Best Buy to look at a Studio 15 model. I noticed the surface around the mousepad where you rest your wrists....
It was warm and it felt really soft...almost a bit sticky soft. Is that because of the clear finish?
I'd rather have a smooth surface than a soft one that feels like the smushy like varnish hasn't completely dry. Could this have been an anomily or would my model be like this if I bought one?

I bought DELL Studio 1555 last month.
I immediately noticed after working sometimes the touchpad area, specially the right hand top corner becomes alarmingly hot and I feel burning sensation on my finger tips.
It is the area where WLAN.WPAN,WI-LAN are present. There is also an Intel chipset, perhaps IO controller.
I immediately called DELL technical support and they sent me the DELL engineer. After monitoring the system for sometimes he decided to replace the motherboard, heat sink, fan assembly and thermal pad.
After replacement I am finding the scenario haven't changed and this time along with touchpad the mid area of keyboard is also getting warm.

I have a Latitude E6640 and wish to use the SmartCard slot. Unfortunately there is a plastic spacer in this slot that will not come out. My software sees the firmware on the laptop so I know the hardware for this is present. How is this plastic spacer removed? Removal of the HD for better leverage is no support. It appears that the top cover over the keyboard would have to be removed but that makes no sense. If that is the case how is this done?

I'm going to be ordering the Sony SR in a couple of days probably. Today I went to Best Buy to look at it. Everything about it I liked except for the casing. It's so flimsy and seems like it's made out of cheap plastic. I recognize that this helps to keep it light, but still, just touching it made me feel like my palms will break the computer after a while, lol. Seriously, why do they make it like that? The thing bends so easily, including the screen. Making it of something a more strong would not add considerable weight!

I'm currently evaluating a studio 17 which I am considering returning for a E6500 hoping that the business class machine will have a more robust build.
This studio 17 exhibits flex in the keyboard on the right side near the enter key and the number pad, and I am given to understand that the latitude keyboard is much better in that regard.
However, videos like this one depicting flex in the wrist rest and the bezel around the screen are a little discerning.

I just got my XPS M1330 recently. Noticed an intermitten beeping noise but I addressed it using RMClock. The beeping noise is gone.
However i also noticed there is a noise coming from the audio jack area once in a while when the laptop is working. The sound is like 'crick crick'. Not sure what sound is that

if there is a blank you can replace the optical drive with in the SR series. Preferably a part that is sold by Sony themselves. I hardly use my DVD drive and having it power on and then off each time I bring the notebook out of standby drains battery. I also intend to reduce the weight of the SR by removing the optical drive.
With my old Thinkpad, I was able to remove the optical drive and replace it with a blank fairly easily. I think Lenovo calls it a "travel blank."

I have purchased Dell Inspiron 15R 5520Â i7 few months back. It is working fine, I now I fell that my system gets heated up a lot early and too much. Particularly, around the touchpad area. I have also noticed that regardless of the heating up, the cooling fan runs so slow. I assume, it should speed up when the system is getting hotter, but it does not.

Looking at one drive, in both areas area 1 is always significantly hotter than area 2's. A 15 C increase.
Is it possible to set a single harddrive in the 2nd HDD area (farther away from the CPU and GPU that are causing all the heat), with the 1st area empty?
I tried simply moving it from area 1 to area 2, and it said it couldn't find the OS. Is there a way to fix this without reinstalling?

I had this problem with local internet area disconnecting and reconnecting (one second it shows it is enabled, other ethernet cable is unplugged, and that keeps repeating), which was caused by Ubuntu, I highly suspect. So I updated Bios to A11 and it charmingly fixed everything.
However, problem arose again. I've installed Ubuntu again on dual boot and tried updating Nvidia drivers which did not work well and broke Ubuntu again, which caused this internet problem again on windows 7 somehow (yes, this happened for second time . But this time I can't update Bios, or overwrite it's update).
I did not expect that after bios update this would happen again. I tried downloading various drivers from dell driver support. So, is there a way to overwrite same version of Bios, or (downloading some sort of drivers i might have mist, ect.?)

When I look at my notebook's screen at an angle, an area at the bottom of the screen looks to be visibly lighter than the rest of the screen. There is also a small spot at the bottom of the screen that always looks lighter than the rest. Is this kind of thing considered relatively normal for an LCD?

I seem to have trouble with my on-screen keyboard when using the Dell Inspiron in tablet mode. Supposedly the on-screen keyboard will pop-up whenever I activate a text-insert area (such as search, or firefox, or IE, or etc) but there is no response.
In addition, I should be able to toggle it on/off through "settings" by swiping right but the keyboard icon is not available in settings when I swipe right. I *can* turn it on by going through..
Settings --> Ease of access --> Keyboard on
Though technically it shouldn't require those extra steps and I don't know why it isn't popping up on it's own. Also unsure why I can't find the icon in settings.
This laptop is brand new so I didn't change anything on it yet....

Just received my HP Mini 1030NR and love the way it looks, size, everything..EXCEPT....that I have noticed a distinct vibration in the wristpad area on both sides.
As I was adding anti-virus and tweaking as I usually do, I noticed this vibration and wonder if this is an issue with SSD-based laptops.
