Apr 5, 2009How is the area around where the palm rests for the Studio 15? I read one review where it said the palm areas get warm. Is this true?

Dell :: Studio 15 Surface Area To Soft?
Mar 7, 2009I went to Best Buy to look at a Studio 15 model. I noticed the surface around the mousepad where you rest your wrists....
It was warm and it felt really soft...almost a bit sticky soft. Is that because of the clear finish?
I'd rather have a smooth surface than a soft one that feels like the smushy like varnish hasn't completely dry. Could this have been an anomily or would my model be like this if I bought one?
Dell :: Studio 1555 Touchpad Area Over Getting Too Hot
Apr 25, 2009I bought DELL Studio 1555 last month.
I immediately noticed after working sometimes the touchpad area,specially the right hand top corner becomes alarmingly hot and I feel burning sensation on my finger tips.
It is the area where WLAN.WPAN,WI-LAN are present.There is also an Intel chipset,perhaps IO controller.
I immediately called DELL technical support and they sent me the DELL engineer.After monitoring the system for sometimes he decided to replace the motherboard,heat sink,fan assembly and thermal pad.
After replacement I am finding the scenario haven't changed and this time along with touchpad the mid area of keyboard is also getting warm.

Jul 2, 2009I used my Studio 1535 without problem about 4-5 months and temperatures were fine. But from some time I have very strange problem. First my charger became relatively very hot, my mother consider it as very hot as well.
After my hard disk becomes hot 39-40 C, and now I guess as result from fan system and HDD high temperature, my left palm rest (typically warm on most notebooks) is hot too.

May 27, 2010I was looking through some Studio XPS 16 reviews and one of the biggest complaints is heat. I don't really want to deal with heat that badly (I wish the fan was louder to compensate for the Heat).
But I am comparing a Studio XPS 16 to a Sony Vaio F series, and I was wondering how would the heat generated be with 8 GB of Ram, i7 720 QM processor, ATI 5730 and a 128 GB Solid State Drive? The Solid State Drive is supposed to generate 0 heat, so I figured that would mean that I would not have to deal with the heat problems. Also I would get the RGBLED screen.
On a less important note....with a 128 GB SSD and a 9 cell 85 whr battery what kind of battery life am I looking at with those stats at 20% brightness and only word documents?
I would like to grab a dell as I found out I may have a 15% discount there, but I don't want to have to deal with a hot/throttled computer.

Nov 16, 2009I'm about to buy the XPS Studio 13 notebook and was hoping someone could make some clarifications for me about it. I've read a lot about the apparent design flaw in it that makes the monitor block the exhaust and thus the computer gets hot. I also know that the new BIOS version addresses this issue somewhat, but I'm a bit skeptical about it because a BIOS can only make the fans run more. The BIOS fix cannot correct the actual physical problem. Therefore, I'm a bit jittery about getting this computer, even though it's the one that best meets my spec requirements.
I would like to hear from those who have owned the XPS Studio 13 for at least 3-4 months and have used it for powerful stuff. What has your experience been like regarding the heat issue?
I've been warned that heat issues are not good for LED displays. This seems to me to be confirmed by the XPS 13 review posted at [url] where it is claimed that the heat issued damaged the bottom part of the guy's screen.

Jun 24, 2009I am still having problems with FPS drops in games, I have tried everything and have come to the conclusion it must be heat related.
By running HWMonitor I can see the sensor for my GPU has reached 94c!!!
I think at this temp its downlocking and causing my FPS drops.
Could anyone else with a 1555 run hwmonitor (its free) then play a demanding game for a while and check the ACHI temps?

Sep 20, 2008I've been frustrated all week dealing with a new HP dv7t that arrived on Monday (9/15). The moment I powered it up, the fan started running at full speed and hours it hadn't kicked off a single time. I've never heard a notebook fan more audible or more annoying before. It would be impossible to use the system in a library or other quiet setting without distracting others. Even with fan running at gale force, the wrist rest to the left of the touchpad was always uncomfortably HOT! I did figure out how to change the BIOS setting that had the fan set to 'Always On'. But it still ran 90% of the time!
I called this morning and got my Return Authorization, so it's going back on Monday and I refused to trade it for another HP....the fan in a store model I checked out yesterday was just as loud as mine....so that puts me back to square one- looking for a new laptop!
I've decided that I'd rather have a 15.4" model than a 17", so the Dell Studio 15 is high on my list. I also love the XPS M1530, but both of the nVIDIA graphics cards offered are included in the current nVIDIA mess that's been all over the news....
So, the Dell Studio 15 with the ATI Radeon HD 3450 graphics card and either the 2.1GHz T8100 or 2.5GHz T9300 is my front-runner at the moment. But I've got a few questions for those of you with some hands on experience and knowledge of the Studio models-
What percentage of the time does the fan run during normal usage (email, spreadsheets, internet)?
Is the fan noise muted like most other notebooks? Or is it more audible?
Are there any areas of the keyboard, wrist rest or touchpad that become uncomfortably warm to the touch?

I want to buy a new laptop from Dell, but I just cannot decide between the XPS M1530 or the Studio XPS 16.
I want to be able to play games on it that look good, like Warcraft, COD5, Source games like HL2. I'm not looking for something that will play well with maxed out settings, nothing close. Just a laptop that would do it smoothly while still looking good at maybe medium settings. I also need it for some university work like programming and other computer science related topics.
I am after having a terrible expierience with a HP pavilion dv2699ea special edition laptop. Recently it just got boiling hot, it was always very hot, but much hotter than normal now, you could not sit with it on your lap, the keyboard and mousepad and the area for resting your palms were just too hot to touch, and when I would be watching a dvd on it lately it actually shut itself down several times without explanation. Now the GPU has gone bust. Sometimes it produces no image on screen, or a distorted one, and it has made the laptop as slow as hell .....

Dell :: Area-51 Alienware Desktop Delayed
Feb 11, 2010So I ordered my Alienware Area-51 with a bunch of upgrades totaling at something like $5000 on January 22nd. It has been in the "In Production" stage for a while and today they sent me an email saying the delivery date was changed to February 23rd. It was initially supposed to be shipped by February 16th.
So I'm wondering if "In Production" means they have actually started building the computer, or if there is a chance they are still processing payment information. Is there any chance they haven't confirmed the payment at this point, I would consider canceling the order.
Secondly, when Dell gives you a delayed ETA, how often do they delay the system from arriving further? I'm worried that a week and a half from now I will get another email saying I won't be getting my system until March.
Dell :: E6500 Flex In Wrist Rest Area?
Mar 21, 2009I'm currently evaluating a studio 17 which I am considering returning for a E6500 hoping that the business class machine will have a more robust build.
This studio 17 exhibits flex in the keyboard on the right side near the enter key and the number pad, and I am given to understand that the latitude keyboard is much better in that regard.
However, videos like this one depicting flex in the wrist rest and the bezel around the screen are a little discerning.

Dell :: Xps M1330 Noise Near Audio Jack Area
Feb 12, 2009I just got my XPS M1330 recently. Noticed an intermitten beeping noise but I addressed it using RMClock. The beeping noise is gone.
However i also noticed there is a noise coming from the audio jack area once in a while when the laptop is working. The sound is like 'crick crick'. Not sure what sound is that

Nov 22, 2009I dropped my Latitude E6400 while it was in my backpack and the palmrest plastic next to the latch holder unsnapped from the base. I snapped it back in. About a month later, it was unsnapped again and I snapped it back in again. I don't remember dropping it. I wonder:
1. Has this happened to anybody?
2. Do you think I broke anything?

Apr 9, 2013I have purchased Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 i7 few months back. It is working fine, I now I fell that my system gets heated up a lot early and too much. Particularly, around the touchpad area. I have also noticed that regardless of the heating up, the cooling fan runs so slow. I assume, it should speed up when the system is getting hotter, but it does not.

Sep 1, 2009Looking at one drive, in both areas area 1 is always significantly hotter than area 2's. A 15 C increase.
Is it possible to set a single harddrive in the 2nd HDD area (farther away from the CPU and GPU that are causing all the heat), with the 1st area empty?
I tried simply moving it from area 1 to area 2, and it said it couldn't find the OS. Is there a way to fix this without reinstalling?
Dell :: XPS M1210 Palm Rest
Oct 7, 2009There are dark grey marks on both side of the palm rest on my M1210 palm rest which doesn't come off no matter what i use on it. There were never there until i cleaned my laptop with some iso-propyl alcohol. I wiped the whole laptop and around the two palm rest area, silver stuff were coming off my laptop and transferring into onto my cloth.
The place where the silver things come off became a big dark spot on my laptop.

Oct 8, 2009I sent my computer for repair to Dell after a fall and when it came back, it came back with a variety of new problem. turns out, dell people damaged the the motherboard and forgot a few screws with a new palm rest when they were "fixing" it.
Anyway, I got a technician to change the motherboard and I got a new palm rest. Now I have the feeling the palm rest/mouse pad get a bit warmer than before but I am not really sure.
How hot should it be for a normally functionning XPS 1530? It is not burning hot or anything but I don't remember if before it was getting this warm.
