I have an Inspiron 9100 (used) and feel as if I have been in the hospital forever. I have one question on this borrowed 9100 running XP premium that
was put in overtop of the original copy of XP Home sp1. The copy of Explorer doesn't seem to have an address window in it .....

My Dell XPS 9100 laptop just went stone dead, no lights, charger or otherwise and happened while I was not looking. With no power apparent from battery or AC charger, no other indicators are known.

My dad's laptop that he got about 5 years ago is a great desktop replacement. It's never caused any problems.
But my question is about the fan, it's really loud! And it's always on continuously. Is that normal? It's been like that since he got it. I've never heard a laptop so loud.
I blow into the fans regularly but is there something else I can do to get rid of the noise, or is it normal?

My apologies if this is not the correct place for this thread...
I have a first gen Inspiron 9100 that I have owned for a little over two years now and I am just now having some issues that are cause for confusion. Simply stated my video performance is going down the tubes with a quickness...
especially when playing games or watching video (screen flashes and fans on full blast in seconds).
My thoughts were that the video card is going bad but giving it some pause for thought I am not so sure if's that simple.
I have replaced both the Hard Drive and the Power Supply recently and I am wondering if increased heat or inadequate power might be the culprit... or the cause for damage to the video card.
Here's my setup for reference...

It's me and my crazy mods again After fitting second SSD to my Vaio Z (instead of optical drive), i got hold of Intel's X9100 ES from E-Bay...
Stepping is QBDW - for those interested.
So, after a hour or so of fitting everything in (mostly spent on opening the Z) it was ready for testing.
First results? Not very nice - X9100 ES I got has lowest VID of 1.0V (, I should have asked the seller for this before) Also, 3.0 GHz VID is outrageously high (1.225V) - so, during the first tests it was shown that almost immediately the CPU resorts to throttling (temp. gets to 105C) - completely useless .....

I have an InspironR Special Edition 7520 and my AMD 7760 2GB will not activate or do any graphics processing. It is stuck on the Intel Graphics. I am running windows 8.
-My laptop is set on high performance and is plugged in.
-I ran NovaBench and it used the intel graphics card
-FurMark detected Intelgraphics as my main graphics card
-I ran a small game called "Slender: The Arrival" on the lowest settings it could barely handle it
-During the game and the graphics run I had Catalyst Control Center Up and it showed 0% usage of the graphics card, indicating it failed to switch
- All the drivers are up to date, per the windows solution and from downloading them from the AMD website.
I would like a solution to either, have the switch start working, or to change a setting so only the graphics card is constantly used. If this does not work I fear I'll have to return the laptop for faulty hardware.

Just purchased a 1555 with the radeon 4570 512mb GPU, Windows 7 64-bit, and performance is generally very good apart from one strange result. Windows experience index reports the following -
Processor - 5.7
Memory - 5.8
Graphics - 4.9
Gaming Graphics - 6.3
hard disk - 5.9
So the only low result is the desktop aero graphics performance at 4.9, which seems strange when the 3D businnes/gaming graphics score is 6.3. Other results i've seen posted on forums of the Windows 7 WEI scores are usually the same for desktop graphics and 3D graphics in Windows 7, which I would have expected as I understood that aero uses the GPU similarly to games. If anything, it looked like in most results the desktop graphics scores were slightly higher than the gaming graphics scores.
Does anyone know why I could be getting a lot lower desktop graphics score compared to gaming graphics?
I've checked the graphics drivers are up to date.
Can anybody else post their Windows 7 WEI scores from the 1555 with the 4570 512mb GPU?

I was just wondering if anyone thinks that my graphics (8600GT 256MB GDDR3) in my M1530 is going from the following:
1. Laptop is 8 months old, I use it mainly for gaming and on average over those 8 months I would say I play games for at least 3 hours a day.2 weeks ago I bought Fallotu 3 to play it with mods, thats when these issues turned up which are:After playing for a little while, the graphics went all 'strange', moving in game was impossible, alot of the textures went purple then BSOD. (15 days ago)The game crashed on exit (not unusual if you know FO3 or Oblivion), then BSOD. (8 days ago)Similar to the first one, however the screen went 'speckly' and you could see different parts of the level (as if I had noclip on). I exited the game, but the 'speckles' were still present in Vista, including the shutdown screen. I turned it off and then on again and it was fine then. (Yesterday)Finally, similar to the above with the noclip style look, just no speckles, but I managed to exit the game, shutdown, restart and everything was fine again, infact I played for 4 hours straight after that. (Yesterday)
Unfortunatly I didn't get chance to read the BSOD errors.
Also bare in mind that I have played Fallout 3 for several hours each day since I got the game (16 days ago) without any serious issues (a few CTDs, but thats normal for FO3).
Apart from these issues I have never had a BSOD with this laptop, and very few other crashes that weren't 'understandable'.
So my question is; is this the starts of the NVidia GPU issue? Should I get a replacement or wait for more information?

I know that there are lots threads about various GPU related problems, but somehow I didn't find any information which i would be very interested in. So:
PROBLEM #1: I have dell m1710 (GPU: GeForce Go 7950 GTX; the last time i've cleansed dust lats time about four months ago) for 18 months. Its waranty is expired.
Some time ago, while playing a game which does not require lots of graphics power, the screen covered with color lines and squares (screenshots included). As I closed the program and looked at GPU temperature it was around 66. I've restarted my laptop and at first it didn't boot at all and all startup information and BIOS looked like written in some kind of hieroglyphs.
Now my laptop only boots on safe mode or normal mode but only if resolution is no more than 1280x800. But i think it won't last long until it won't work at all .....

I found a E6400 in my local store that's $1500 (which is way too much) with a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M, does that graphics card is the reason why it's so expensive, other than being a C2D P9500 with 4gb ram?
I really don't care about dedicated graphics card, as my current x3100 suffices. And I don't game, expect rarely BF2, which is fine with the x3100

I was hitting 98C, so took my 1710 apart to AS5 my 7950GTX over the weekend.
The temps have dropped a little, but I notice now that no matter which driver I install, I am not getting the in game performance I was getting before, although I am gettting the 3D mark scores. Everything seems "jerky". i.e. its almost as if there is a lot of hard disk catching up if that explains it (I have plenty space free).
COD4 ran a dream before and this is now pretty useless unless I drop it to 1024x768 , but even then its jerky. GOW has gone the same way. This use to run a treat on 1400 * 900, but this is now the same.
The question is....have I broken my card, put to much AS5/too little on, or did the hitting of 98C do some damage! Is this a symptom of pending doom, should I take my lappy apart and redo the AS5..... !

This is a long winded question so bear with me.
Both me and my friend, have Dell XPS M1710 laptops.
mine has the Go7900GS 256MB, and my mates has the 7950GTX 512MB, Graphics cards. have been thinking about an upgrade to a XPS M1730. The base model of the M1730 comes with a single Go8700gt 256MB card in it.
my question is this card any better than our older ones at DX9 and DX10 Games?? there is also an SLI option for the 8700gt, again how would this compare to our older cards??

I have twins and bought two E1705 about two years ago and have been very pleased with them. I had one start the graphics problems (will not boot to windows and has the vertical lines at POST) you have all heard about and after changing the motherboard twice and graphics three times within about six weeks Dell suggested a change out to a XPS 1640, 15 days later it showed up (brand new and no problems).
One week after we received the 1640 my other son's computer is doing the same thing. I asked Dell if we could skip the change outs and go with the 1640 but they did not go for that. I will be shipping the E1705 back to them this time instead of the technician coming to my home. My question is that Dell has a fix now that they did not have a month ago.
Anyone have any ideas what they think they will be doing? They can not change to a ATI 1400 to run cooler because that card stinks. They could change that the fans run all the time but that seems silly. I am hoping they change me to one with two pipes instead of one but I do not know if they will modify the case like some have done to add the 7950 cards. Anyone else had Dell do a repair in warranty in the last few weeks so I know what i am looking at? We really like the E1705 but need something that is reliable.

If you were to put a GPU into the SXPS 13, what would you like it to be? Its default 9400 M is decent enough to trample Intel's IGPs but it could always be better. I mean a 9600 GT on a 13"? It's been done on the LG P series. So what would it be?

I just got my Dell back with a replacement MB and GPU due to failure... I used to run Wow smoothly with medium/high settings 50-60 fps,
now I am getting like 10-12 fps! My 3DMark 2006 scores went down almost a thousand points (from about 2K to 1.1K).
Same drivers from the nVidia site179.28, and I just updated to 179.48.
I know the Laptopvideo2go's might be better, but I was running the ones from nVidia before the swap.
