My dad's laptop that he got about 5 years ago is a great desktop replacement. It's never caused any problems.
But my question is about the fan, it's really loud! And it's always on continuously. Is that normal? It's been like that since he got it. I've never heard a laptop so loud.
I blow into the fans regularly but is there something else I can do to get rid of the noise, or is it normal?
i have a dell inspiron 9100 with a 9800 pro 256 meg video card in it. i will be using it for days, then i will use it the screen goes black but i can still barley see things on it.
i have to cold boot and then its all and good until it happens again. i was wondering could my card be bad or do you think my lcd is bad for my monitor?
if its the card what card can i get to replace it because the 9800 256 card is hard to find. any help would be great.
I have a dell Inspiron 9100 notebook .. with Pentium 4 HT Processor on it (Hyper threading). Now it looks like the processor wont work. everything else seem to be fine in the system, except the processor... Its a 478 socket type mother board .....

I have a first gen Inspiron 9100 that I have owned for a little over two years now and I am just now having some issues that are cause for confusion. Simply stated my video performance is going down the tubes with a quickness...
especially when playing games or watching video (screen flashes and fans on full blast in seconds).
My thoughts were that the video card is going bad but giving it some pause for thought I am not so sure if's that simple.
I have replaced both the Hard Drive and the Power Supply recently and I am wondering if increased heat or inadequate power might be the culprit... or the cause for damage to the video card.
Here's my setup for reference...
The date-time is not holding which indicates replace the 'coin cell' or BIOS battery. I have looked online and everywhere says it is under the keyboard but I HAVE THE KEYBOARD OFF AND I DONT SEE IT. Where the bios battery on the Dell inspirion 9100 is located?

My Dell XPS 9100 laptop just went stone dead, no lights, charger or otherwise and happened while I was not looking. With no power apparent from battery or AC charger, no other indicators are known.

I need to replace my lcd it has large horizontal line/lines that run across it. When I remove it from the plastic, and run my fingers down the edges it will correct itself temporarily. I have found a possible LCD from a inspiron 9100 but with out purchasing it I wont know if it will work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

So, after a hour or so of fitting everything in (mostly spent on opening the Z) it was ready for testing.
First results? Not very nice - X9100 ES I got has lowest VID of 1.0V (, I should have asked the seller for this before) Also, 3.0 GHz VID is outrageously high (1.225V) - so, during the first tests it was shown that almost immediately the CPU resorts to throttling (temp. gets to 105C) - completely useless .....
Recently I bought a Dell Inspiron 1750 and the system has a strange noise
I sent the laptop to the Technical support and they changed the fan and the motherboard
Does anybody know if the noise is normal?
Both the fans of my Inspiron 9300 make a lot of noise. Previously in order to reduce noise I tried to completely remove the fans and cleaned them with compressed air.
At that time I found it weird that they did not make much noise when they rotated (pretty fast) because of the compressed air. The fans keep making the same amount of noise.
I notice that if I apply some pressue next to the keyboard where the fans are located the noise emitted changes.
My computer has started doing a clicking noise. It isn't all the time but comes and goes and if very loud.
I have it sitting on a fan to keep it from overheating but that isn't helping the clicking noise which seems to get worse while surfing the net or things that require it to work harder
I have an Inspiron 15R - just got it. While I like it, it does make a clicking 'dismount' noise pretty often - especially if I plug a memory stick on or something else that causes a hard drive access. Is this normal?

Let me throw you some details..
1.It does not produce the sound always..
2.Specifically no sound when laptop ain't plugged in..
I cant seem to find the patter why the sound is made or during which process this is made..
My laptop model is Inspiron 1564 and adapter model is EA90PE1-00
Dell Inspiron 1300, turn the power on, the three led's at the top of the keyboard flash, the power light illumintes then after about 3 or 4 seconds turn off, there is no fan noise or any other noise I can hear.
I have removed the memory, the wireless card, the hard drive and the cd rom, still same symptoms.
Also removed battery and still same symptoms.
Checked battery and power cord on another 1300 works fine.
Right now I am leading toward either a bad invertor or bad motherboard.
I am not sure if the invertor supplys any signal back to mother board to say it is powered up or not. As a test I did unplug the cable from monitor to mother board and tried to turn on unit that way, but still same symptoms.
I have Inspiron N5110 and i noticed buzzing/screeching sound under the keyboard that sounds like it is electrical related. I make diagnostic and no problems were found
View 8 Replies View RelatedI had noise coming from my optical drive. The computer randomly checks my optical drive as if I were booting up or put a disk in it. I took it out, re-seated it and flashed the BIOS. It seemed to be better for a week or so but it has come back with a vengeance. I keep hearing the click of it accessing at odd times (again, when I insert a memory stick, or am working with pictures, were some times that it makes the noise). I now crack the door and leave the drive open so it's not accessing on and off all the time. Inspiron 15R,5520

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Inspiron 17R, Intel i3, 4GB RAM. I've had the machine for exactly one week and have noticed several times, this high pitch (almost like a digital watch), that comes on for about 3 seconds, followed by a 'click', as if a disk drive was done working. This noise is coming from within the computer, not the speakers. Yesterday, it did it again, except the pitch changed during it's sound; again, followed by the 'clicking' sound.
The other thing I've noticed (and maybe I'm oblivious to new technology), is the fan on the inside of the computer doesn't stay on all the time. It comes on about once every 3-4 minutes, at a about a 5-8 second cycle. Maybe it's supposed to do that. I'm use to my old machine's fan staying on most of the time, allowing you to feel the heat being pushed out. Not so much on this one.
Now, could these two be related?
I just bought an Inspiron 5423 laptop which is an Ultrabook. I love everything about this laptop except that a grinding noise comes from the fan even under very regular operations. It comes and go every 10 minutes and last for 30 seconds. Even my wife can hear it from the other side of the room. I'm not sure if something is wrong with this brand new laptop or it is the regular noise for all the Ultrabooks of such brand. It's really annoying and I'm thinking to return it.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI received my Inspiron 7537 1080 3 weeks ago. Everything works perfectly except the static noise after connecting headphones. Tried different headphones,latest drivers nothing worked. Dell has sent an engineer to look at the problem. He replaced entire motherboard but the noise is still there. I tried Bluetooth headphones and external sound card but this hissing noise is always there in the background. I am thinking about getting another one after refund but not sure if this static noise is present in all models or was this only one off.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just wanna ask something about my laptop Dell Inspiron 1525 because recently it's making a high pitch whistling noise that i think is coming from the hard disk(not sure). But im sure its not from the laptop's fan. Whenever i turn on my laptop,a whistling noise starts,then the machine dies within 2 seconds,sometimes 5 sec. If i press the power button again, it wont start, its showing no life. Unless i replug the adapter and switch on again. But then again, it dies after a few seconds. Back to replugging the adapter again to switch on. Sometimes it takes 5 tries to finally open my laptop without dying. When it's finally done starting up, whistling noise would go away after a minute or two. Then it's like normal again. No noise, no overheating, no sudden shut off, no hang ups, etc. What could be the problem? I am using the charger provided by Dell and without a battery,just the charger directly from the laptop. Im certain it has nothing to do with the battery thing.
Im done with the diagnostics, no errors. I also tried releasing static electricity on machine by pressing the power button for 30 seconds. But still, the problem keeps on happening every time i power on my laptop.
Additional info: I tried removing the HD this morning and use a linux live usb. but still the problem and the whistling sound is there.
I have a Inspirion N5050 laptop. A few weeks ago, it started running slow and Adchoices ads appeared. I removed them. I ran a scan using AVG, which detected nothing. I shut down the laptop as a precaution. Now it will not load Windows. I press the power button, the dell logo appears, then I hear what I think is the hard drive click, then the screen goes dark for a second, then the logo and a click and so on and so on. I am able to get to the menus with f2 and f12, what to do next. Safe mode will not respond ( I cannot get into it).

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Inspiron 15 3537 laptop and I noticed that I can hear a high pitched noise where the Memory/hard drive are located. That noise is louder when I put the battery mode on "battery saving", but I still can hear that noise when the battery mode is set to other mode than that. Please note that I switched my hard drive with a SSD, because I thought that it come from here.
My laptop is still on warranty, I bought it recently (July 2014)
I know that there are posts with this issus, but I haven't found a solution yet.
Also, on an other subjet, is it normal that my battery already lost 10% of its capacity after only 5 month of use?

It is certainly much louder than the noise from my M6300 (also a 17" high performance laptop), or my former D810
The fans kick in quite often after short periods of being off.
Is there a way to slow down the fans or have them off for longer?
Is there a compatible fan in the market that is quieter?
