I just bought this laptop 2 days ago. (on bestbuy). Out of the box, there was this soft scratchy noise from the HDD constantly ( with pauses now n then). I was not able to find any solution online. I tried different power plans and no change.
View 3 RepliesAccording to the manual, this model is suppose to have USB Powershare abilities, however, I cannot for the life of me get it to work for charging my LG G2 phone. My previous laptop (not a Dell) was able to do this without any issues. Powershare is enabled in the BIOS, I am using the USB port with the power symbol, but when the laptop is put to sleep or powered off, there is no power to the USB port. I have tried unplugging my phone after the laptop is put to sleep, and plugging it back in, but that doesn't work either. I have also checked and disabled USB suspend modes in the power management tabs of all USB hubs and the Human interface devices. I also tried repairing/reinstalling the chipset drivers after the latest BIOS update (A03).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 with 1TB HDD. The disk is slow and want to replace with a 500GB SSD. I can remove the HDD and put in its place the SSD. However, how exactly to get Windows 8.1 installed on the SSD and the other Dell provided pre-installed software?
I made a factory image usb flash drive on a 32GB stick by using the backup & recovery software that came pre-installed. I also updated that software to the latest version available. However, when recovering from the flash drive it gives an error code 0x400110020000100A and does not restore Windows on the SSD. The SSD is formatted as NTFS (or FAT32 tried both) and can be read by the laptop if connected thru' a USB port. So, I know that the SSD is working and good.
my laptop is 1 week old and the fan constantly switches on and off, its under no load just idling, its a very loud and annoying problem, when I spoke to Dell they claim to have no knowledge of the problem, how can this be when a search shows up plenty on the subject.
they sent a technician out with a new fan but did not bother to replace because it will not solve the problem.
they are sending a new replacement, but I think it will have the same problem.
its a shame because I love the XPS, Dell need to get there act together and solve the problem.
my laptop came with latest bios and still has fan problem.
Its not from the speakers, and its not a true hard drive whine or a system beep, its just a constant sound with really high pitch
(high scientific frequency - not as in occurance :P)and although its not that loud
i just got a, Acer laptop (or notebook?) 6920G and every once and awhile it seems that the sound gets this grinding scratchy sound.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have replaced mother board and LCD of my Inspiron N5010. After replacement, it started to shut down constantly, usually 5-10 min after start up. I have run diagnostics, it showed error 2000-0413 (LCD cable not detected), but could not finish all diagnostic process, cause it shut down again during CPU memory test.
Is it possible that because of this error computer shut downs then working or it is two separated problems? Can it be that only cable connector causing error or it is a defect of new mother board?
My Dell Inspiron 15r 8 months old today suddenly started acting up. It keeps restarting after the dell logo screen. after reading up a bit online i have done the following
1)tried tapping f8 to boot via safemode but unsuccesful(also tried fn+f8 and shift+f8)
2)i have run diagnostics no error is encountered
3)i have entered bios menu and made changes to sata interface to ahci and other alternate options but to no avail
4)removed battery and pressed power button with power off for 15s but no result on giving power
I actually have grub bootloader through which i can open 3 operating systems i have-win7,and 2 unix based os's however as my laptop isnt going beyond the logo screen i cannot even enter my other operating systems to make any changes.
I just bought a N7010 and the cooling fan runs constantly. It keeps the laptop cool, but I don't think it is supposed to run constantly. Is this a firmware upgrade or something else?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy wireless adapter needs to be constantly reset. My wireless constantly goes out, at least every 10 minutes or LESS and it has to reset the adapter. It's VERY annoying! I've already updated all the drivers and even tried re-installing the adapter.Bluetooth is NOT on.

I think it's working as intended, but the fact that the area over the buttons is also part of the touchpad means that I'm constantly moving the cursor right before I click on something... It there any way to disable the touchpad area over the buttons?

I have been using a microfiber (the ones you use on cars) but its not as good as a lens cleaner or the little naps that come with some HDTV's to keep the high gloss black fingerprint proof without scratching everything up.

Late last year, I spilled a substantial amount of soft drink onto my 9400.
It was under completecare, so the Dell tech came round and replaced the motherboard, keyboard and touchpad...he just cleaned everything else with isopropyl or something.
That was about a week before my warranty ran out....but the laptop was working fine, so I had no problem.
Now, a few months later, I am getting a lot of blue screens and errors all related to my video card.
I decided to open her up, clean the heatsink and fans and replace the AS5 on the CPU & GPU.
When I took the heatsink off the GPU (7900GS) I noticed a LOT of corrosion on several of the components on the GPU...obviously from the soft drink.
Now I know my warranty is out, but should my GPU have been replaced at the time, considering it was under complete care?
Should I be able to get it replaced by Dell now? I have emailed them, expaining the situation, to see what they can do, if anything.
I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this. But I recently picked up a malware called AntiSpyware Soft I assume through the wireless connection. I have no idea how to remove it, although it becomes less harmful when run in safe mode and when you disable the lan settings in internet explorer.
Is there a free way of removing it that isn't super complicated?
I just noticed today that the "8" key of my notebook's keyboard has gone soft. I has lost that clickiness and the return response is not as tactile as it used to be or as other keys still have. When I press "8", it doesnt even feel like I touched the key. Otherwise, as of now, it is still working. I hope I made clear the issue I am having with the key.
My question:
Is this key about to go bad? Any solution for fixing it? If cleaning is needed, how do I clean it?
I just hope I wont have to replace the whole keyboard for the issue if the key stopped responding altogether.
Bought mine AOA150-1049 from newegg, it did not come with a soft sleeve case. When i have to RMA it, they want me to return the case which i never received. Their inspection department claimed there is one included which is not true in the box i received from them.

My dad's laptop that he got about 5 years ago is a great desktop replacement. It's never caused any problems.
But my question is about the fan, it's really loud! And it's always on continuously. Is that normal? It's been like that since he got it. I've never heard a laptop so loud.
I blow into the fans regularly but is there something else I can do to get rid of the noise, or is it normal?
Both the fans of my Inspiron 9300 make a lot of noise. Previously in order to reduce noise I tried to completely remove the fans and cleaned them with compressed air.
At that time I found it weird that they did not make much noise when they rotated (pretty fast) because of the compressed air. The fans keep making the same amount of noise.
I notice that if I apply some pressue next to the keyboard where the fans are located the noise emitted changes.
My computer has started doing a clicking noise. It isn't all the time but comes and goes and if very loud.
I have it sitting on a fan to keep it from overheating but that isn't helping the clicking noise which seems to get worse while surfing the net or things that require it to work harder
I have an Inspiron 15R - just got it. While I like it, it does make a clicking 'dismount' noise pretty often - especially if I plug a memory stick on or something else that causes a hard drive access. Is this normal?

Let me throw you some details..
1.It does not produce the sound always..
2.Specifically no sound when laptop ain't plugged in..
I cant seem to find the patter why the sound is made or during which process this is made..
My laptop model is Inspiron 1564 and adapter model is EA90PE1-00
Dell Inspiron 1300, turn the power on, the three led's at the top of the keyboard flash, the power light illumintes then after about 3 or 4 seconds turn off, there is no fan noise or any other noise I can hear.
I have removed the memory, the wireless card, the hard drive and the cd rom, still same symptoms.
Also removed battery and still same symptoms.
Checked battery and power cord on another 1300 works fine.
Right now I am leading toward either a bad invertor or bad motherboard.
I am not sure if the invertor supplys any signal back to mother board to say it is powered up or not. As a test I did unplug the cable from monitor to mother board and tried to turn on unit that way, but still same symptoms.
I have Inspiron N5110 and i noticed buzzing/screeching sound under the keyboard that sounds like it is electrical related. I make diagnostic and no problems were found
View 8 Replies View RelatedI had noise coming from my optical drive. The computer randomly checks my optical drive as if I were booting up or put a disk in it. I took it out, re-seated it and flashed the BIOS. It seemed to be better for a week or so but it has come back with a vengeance. I keep hearing the click of it accessing at odd times (again, when I insert a memory stick, or am working with pictures, were some times that it makes the noise). I now crack the door and leave the drive open so it's not accessing on and off all the time. Inspiron 15R,5520
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Inspiron 17R, Intel i3, 4GB RAM. I've had the machine for exactly one week and have noticed several times, this high pitch (almost like a digital watch), that comes on for about 3 seconds, followed by a 'click', as if a disk drive was done working. This noise is coming from within the computer, not the speakers. Yesterday, it did it again, except the pitch changed during it's sound; again, followed by the 'clicking' sound.
The other thing I've noticed (and maybe I'm oblivious to new technology), is the fan on the inside of the computer doesn't stay on all the time. It comes on about once every 3-4 minutes, at a about a 5-8 second cycle. Maybe it's supposed to do that. I'm use to my old machine's fan staying on most of the time, allowing you to feel the heat being pushed out. Not so much on this one.
Now, could these two be related?
I just bought an Inspiron 5423 laptop which is an Ultrabook. I love everything about this laptop except that a grinding noise comes from the fan even under very regular operations. It comes and go every 10 minutes and last for 30 seconds. Even my wife can hear it from the other side of the room. I'm not sure if something is wrong with this brand new laptop or it is the regular noise for all the Ultrabooks of such brand. It's really annoying and I'm thinking to return it.
