Its not from the speakers, and its not a true hard drive whine or a system beep, its just a constant sound with really high pitch
(high scientific frequency - not as in occurance :P)and although its not that loud
I just installed windows vista 32-bit on bootcamp, my problem is that when i am using vista, there is this high pitched noise coming from the laptop, but the noise isnt there when i use leopard.

I bought one and returned it and got another one hoping this one will come without the whining noise, but i was wrong.
I tried all these steps suggested by other users:I tried the muting mic. through control panel. didn't workI tried to Go to systems -> Device Manager -> Universal Bus Controllers, itreduced the noise but didn't completely cut it and plus my mouse stopped working.
What I found out was, when i boot the laptop in Safe Mode, the noise disappeared. I don't know what else I should do.
I can hear almost constantly a high pitch noise coming from the area where the key A and S are. what is it?
I doubt that is the HDD since it is more south. Also it's not the fan, I can distinguish the noise made by the fan.
I should probably record it with my microphone.
Does any one else hear a high pitched noise coming from the center area of the keyboard?

I just bought a Inspiron 17R, Intel i3, 4GB RAM. I've had the machine for exactly one week and have noticed several times, this high pitch (almost like a digital watch), that comes on for about 3 seconds, followed by a 'click', as if a disk drive was done working. This noise is coming from within the computer, not the speakers. Yesterday, it did it again, except the pitch changed during it's sound; again, followed by the 'clicking' sound.
The other thing I've noticed (and maybe I'm oblivious to new technology), is the fan on the inside of the computer doesn't stay on all the time. It comes on about once every 3-4 minutes, at a about a 5-8 second cycle. Maybe it's supposed to do that. I'm use to my old machine's fan staying on most of the time, allowing you to feel the heat being pushed out. Not so much on this one.
Now, could these two be related?
I just wanna ask something about my laptop Dell Inspiron 1525 because recently it's making a high pitch whistling noise that i think is coming from the hard disk(not sure). But im sure its not from the laptop's fan. Whenever i turn on my laptop,a whistling noise starts,then the machine dies within 2 seconds,sometimes 5 sec. If i press the power button again, it wont start, its showing no life. Unless i replug the adapter and switch on again. But then again, it dies after a few seconds. Back to replugging the adapter again to switch on. Sometimes it takes 5 tries to finally open my laptop without dying. When it's finally done starting up, whistling noise would go away after a minute or two. Then it's like normal again. No noise, no overheating, no sudden shut off, no hang ups, etc. What could be the problem? I am using the charger provided by Dell and without a battery,just the charger directly from the laptop. Im certain it has nothing to do with the battery thing.
Im done with the diagnostics, no errors. I also tried releasing static electricity on machine by pressing the power button for 30 seconds. But still, the problem keeps on happening every time i power on my laptop.
Additional info: I tried removing the HD this morning and use a linux live usb. but still the problem and the whistling sound is there.

I tried using the hlt command in RM CPU clock utility, like many people have suggested, but the version I have does not even let me check the box. It is an option though, but the writing is in grey and cannot be chosen.
I was wondering if maybe there were some other options i could tweak to lessen the damn noise!
Under "advanced CPU settings" , I can choise the ACPI state to modifiy but there are the only options i could change:
Enable CPU low power
Enable Northbridge Low power
Enable FID/VID change
And i can change the clock divisor to the following:
8,16,32,64,128,256,512.....
When I had VGN Z690, i did not have problem with cpu whining.
when i open the ram cover, I can see that the cpu is sitting right next to it.
audible electrical noise such as "buzzing and whining" noise is coming out of this new arrandale cpu.
Whenever I plug my earphones in my Studio 1537, I can hear a constant noise without playing any music or other audio. Is this normal?
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy DELL n5110 (core i7) randomly makes a strange Single Beep, then a clicking sound which i think comes from it's bottom left corner, this happens while i'am normally operating it, with no error what so ever, and it continues work, nothing appears on the screen, no system notifications, nothing at all, just Single Beep, then a Clicking sound that comes from it's bottom left corner and lasts less than a second, that's it, it's not bothering me, but what is it !!!?
View 16 Replies View RelatedI’ve had the T430s for about a year. Whenever the laptop goes into sleep/hibernate mode, I hear a high pitched hum come from the bottom back section of the laptop. It also becomes noticeably louder when I unplug the AC adapter. I've put my ear to the laptop to try to identify where exactly the noise is coming from. I attached a picture with the general vicinity circled.
I don’t think I explained the issue to the repair centre properly. They ended up replacing the fan the first time I sent it in for repair. The second time I sent it, they replaced the system board. However, it continues to emit that high pitched hum.
Am I being too sensitive to the noise or is this something that can be fixed? I’m just past my warranty and I’m afraid if there is a problem that isn’t identified, I’ll be stuck with it for the next few years.

i hear a click sound whenever i shutdown my laptop. i don't know where the noise comes from, its similar to the mouse CLICK sound.
i have not enabled the start up n shutdown sound.

from time to time, like 20-40 seconds, the hard drive (wd 160gb) makes a strange clonk/clink sound like it would park his heads and power off then power back on, and in that time, my games freeze for 0.5 sec or so, just a very fast freeze, and i have no ideea if this is good and normal or not, but from my previous experiece, it does not sound very healthy
i tryed with bypass/quiet/performace settings in bios at hdd management and it's no difference, and ofc the power saving is disabled both on hdd and on display so i'm getting to think the hdd has some problems, what you think?

I was browsing the web when my Optiarc DVD drive on my 1536 made a very loud screeching noise.

My Lenovo Thinkpad X220T emits very strange, high-pitched sounds during the startup of Skype -- even if I mute the speakers. The pattern of the sound is always the same, indicating something that Skype must be doing each time it starts.
This video was filmed with a Samsung Galaxy S, and you might need headphones/good speakers to hear the sound. Despite of quite a lot of noise (the computer fan), there are no other loud sounds to break your hearing with -- so crank up the volume.
I have a new M3800 Precision Workstation that is making a really annoying sound when it is plugged into power and when the SSD is being accessed, mostly when it is being accessed randomly such as search, VM running, or just random file access test from benchmarking software. The pitch of the scratchy sound varies with screen brightness.

I bought a 4810 about a week ago & so far I'm pretty happy with it, but one things bothers me & I'm not sure if it's normal or not.
After the laptop's been on for awhile (maybe 30 minutes+) it will make a strange snapping or clicking noise (definitely not the hard drive.) It seems to come from the screen area although I'm not positive on that. It's pretty rare that it happens, but lately I've noticed it happening when the laptop powers off.
I've had my Studio 1537 for about a year and once in awhile my laptop screen goesblank after my computer restarts or if I turn my laptop on. This happened to be about 10 times (the first time I spent about 3 days on the phone with a technian) already and I always have to reinstall Windows Vista to get my laptop working again. Today I found out that whenever my computer updates my video drive my screen will go blank, is this normal? What I can do to prevent this from happening again? My screen also goes blank when I install a video driver from the dell CD, but when I uninstalled it in safe mode and restart my laptop my screen is no longer blank.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've recently purchased the Dell XPS 14 ultrabook and it is probably just about two months old now. Everything was so perfect until just yesterday the laptop started to make a quiet fast-paced clicking noise inside it. I don't know where it is coming from but all I know is that the noise is definitely inside the laptop. It starts usually about 2-3 minutes after turning the laptop on and then lasts for about 1-3 minutes. Is this normal? And is there a way to stop this noise? I know its just something little but I just think it's not normal to have this problem for such a new laptop.

I've recently gotten a new external audio interface, a Presonus Firestudio that I connect to the Firewire port on the 9300. I'm getting digital noise coming through the Firestudio from the 9300 through the Firewire port. The noise, ie. chirping, clicking and popping, happens when you move your mouse or resize a window.
I've tried running the interface into the computer using a PCMCIA to FW adapter and running it into the cardbus slot. That has reduced the noise some, but has not eliminated it.
I don't remember getting this noise always, but I certainly have been dealing with it for a while. The noise isn't recorded so I can record just fine, it's just noisy when I'm monitoring.
I just bought this laptop 2 days ago. (on bestbuy). Out of the box, there was this soft scratchy noise from the HDD constantly ( with pauses now n then). I was not able to find any solution online. I tried different power plans and no change.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had noise coming from my optical drive. The computer randomly checks my optical drive as if I were booting up or put a disk in it. I took it out, re-seated it and flashed the BIOS. It seemed to be better for a week or so but it has come back with a vengeance. I keep hearing the click of it accessing at odd times (again, when I insert a memory stick, or am working with pictures, were some times that it makes the noise). I have confirmed it is not the hard drive acting up as I have run a diagnostic program to check HD health and it is fine, but I have the feeling something is up with the fan. Would the fan have to be replaced? It seems to be working properly but that noise makes me worried something is up.
View 3 Replies View Relatedmy laptop has displayed this problem. Both on two Acer TravelMate 6413 and the current 6463, I've found that the fan speed varies with system activity. Elsewhere on these forums I've seen advice about altering the CPU speed and GPU speed to keep the fan speed down, but my problem seems to only be about coming out of standby.
Normally, the fan speed varies with the load on the machine. If I put the laptop into standby and bring it back out soon after, the fans quickly race up to speed and then vary with the load on the machine, expelling hot air.
If I leave the laptop in standby for up to an hour, then resume from standby, the fans come on at high speed, blowing cool air. This continues until I put the laptop under heavy load - then the fan speed comes down and starts to vary as expected once more.
Acer say it's a known microsoft issue, but I can find no evidence of it. I think it's probably an unresovled BIOS fault.
I got a new Studio 1537 from the dell outlet this week. Everything is running great, fully updated and cleaned.
Today after using the laptop for a lil while I turned it off and plugged it in to charge. There is a high pitched noise coming from the laptop. As soon as I remove the power from the laptop it goes away.
Any ideas what this could be? Is this considered normal?
I have a VGN-NS135E and at random times there is a staticy sound coming from the speakers like bad reception on a radio. It happens randomly it seems regardless if i'm listening to music or not.

my laptop is 1 week old and the fan constantly switches on and off, its under no load just idling, its a very loud and annoying problem, when I spoke to Dell they claim to have no knowledge of the problem, how can this be when a search shows up plenty on the subject.
they sent a technician out with a new fan but did not bother to replace because it will not solve the problem.
they are sending a new replacement, but I think it will have the same problem.
its a shame because I love the XPS, Dell need to get there act together and solve the problem.

I have a HP ENVY dv6-7273ca with the following system information...I am running Windows 8.1, along with HP CoolSense. The notebook is always on a hard and flat surface, with plenty of space around it for ventilation. I periodically clear the fan vents with compressed air as preventative maintenance.
Over the past few weeks I have found that, for no apparent reason, the fan has got increasingly loader and I would experience intermittent 'black screens' at start-up. It has now got to the stage where the fan is constantly working at a high speed, and is extremely hot to the touch. This includes at initial start up, even after long periods of shutdown, and with no other software other than the OS running.I have always run HP Support Assistant via Windows, and there does not seem to be any issues shown by this software. I have also tried to run the HP System Health Scan, but all I get is a constant progress bar. I have tried this in Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.I have checked, and I have the latest BIOS update. I am running the ENERGY STAR power option.
