The touchpad on my Inspiron 11 3000 2 in 1 is driving me crazy. I think it's working as intended, but the fact that the area over the buttons is also part of the touchpad means that I'm constantly moving the cursor right before I click on something... It there any way to disable the touchpad area over the buttons?

I have been using my dell inspiron for about a year and half and it worked fine. But one day i plugged my charger for charging laptop and mouse goes mad... it starts moving to and fro of its own without me touching it.i googled the problem but did not found any useful material. i installed the ALPS driver and the only thing i get is i turn of my touchpad when charging and use a usb mouse instead.

For some reasons it does not show mouse cursor. during installation it doesn't show cursor and after installation it is not showing cursor at all.
I installed dell touch pad drivers with all other important chipset drivers but still cursor disappear.
Strange thing is, when i plugin external mouse then cursor appears and when i remove external mouse then again cursor disappear magically.
I teach online and my new Dell laptop Inspiron 15 3520 is useless. I cannot use it in online chat with students because now the cursor is moving to other lines of text and inserting my typing. I uninstalled the touchpad driver as that seems to be something recommended here. I tried to reinstall from the Dell website and it failed. So now I not only have an awful computer but a useless one. I'm regretting the Dell decision after just a week.

When I start typing I have to watch where the mouse is. If it is in the middle of the text I am typing, it will go there in the middle of me typing. This becomes very annoying.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just finished replacing the keyboard on my HP G72 due to spilling some water on the keyboard a few days ago & some of the keys not working after laptop dried out. However, I find that things are not as they should be as I just can't get the cursor to move. I don't use a mouse & rely on the touchpad. I've tried removing the keyboard & reinstalling a few times but all to no avail, even if it's that the keyboard itself might be faulty & I need to buy another one. I don't want to just assume there is a problem with this new keyboard only to find out that the problem lies elsewhere & that there are other things I should be doing or trying.
I did have to install a new keyboard on this laptop sometime last year after having a similar accident with water spillage, but installing the new one that time was pretty much a piece of cake, I followed the onscreen guides I'd looked at & everything was perfect once I'd installed the new keyboard.
When you lightly tap the touchpad to start moving the cursor, it makes a noise. It's almost as if its being depressed around one mm every time you touch it. Now, I'm not talking about intentionally pressing it down and hearing a click.
Just lightly putting your finger on the pad. Is the feeling of it depressing slightly and making a small noise normal?
I have this massive problem with my cursor randomly moving and clicking all over the screen without being touched. I hadn't had this problem until after I had my cracked screen replaced with a new one. I've tried unplugging the mouse, disabling the touchpad, etc. and nothing.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAs a confirmed trackpoint user, having the mouse built into the trackpad of the T431s is causing me all sort of grief, including sore wrists - but there are two problems I can't seem to diagnose.
1) When clicking the pad for left mouse click, it often does not work until I click it a few times. I notice this more when I disable the trackpad for cursor movement (which I had to do because the cursor moves when I try to click) - but its there even when that is enabled. It comes and goes. I guess there could be some foot trapped in there, but I've only had it a week and been pretty careful. I'd rather not learn to remove the keyboard on day 6.
2) The right click gets into a condition where, when browsing,a click brings up a new tab of the link I clicked on, rather than showing me the options (open in new tab, incognito window, save link, etc). If I connect a real mouse, it is normal.
is anyone else having probs with their touchpad? i got this laptop in Feb and now when i click the button on the touchpad i have to press it a couple times before it does anything.

I have all of the drivers loaded and working except for a Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller (listed under Other devices). find the Windows 7 driver for this? The Unknown Devices program shows it as Dell and Intel Corporation.
View 16 Replies View Relatedi bought my dell laptop from the website (malaysia), and after a couple of month using the touchpad seems to be not working. Called them and they sent a technician to repair it on site, only to see him bringing 2 parts that were not related to the problem (motherboard & keyboard), which was he replaced mine with the new one anyway.
But that still did not fix the touchpad (in his defense, he said "they" only gave him those parts and he has no clue why), so he said he will get back to me about the touchpad and meet up another day to replace the correct part.
Now im writing not to complaint about the touchpad, but the screen rotation. After the temporary "fix" it seems that whenever i tilt my screen sideways or upside down, screen rotates as normal. Problem is, it wont rotate back to the original orientation when i tilt it back.
Eventually after he left, did some tinkering around and found 3 methods that worked:
1. pressing ctrl + alt + up arrow
2. change the orientation settings in Intel HD graphic properties
3. this one is weird a bit, i had to open up the laptop screen so its flat with the keyboard, THEN only the screen rotation works like normal if i tilt the whole thing upright.
But these methods did not fix the orientation problem, its more of a temporary solution as it wont tilt back to the original position in the "laptop mode".
I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 5547 about 2 weeks ago. I've noticed a problem with the touchpad. My mouse sometimes moves erratically by itself. I'm not sure if this is a windows 8.1 issue, a hardware issue or driver issue. I have noticed that closing the monitor and then opening it again usually stops the mouse the issue temporarily.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to access my files on one of those file transfer boxes that can be used as an external drive it is impossible to read my files or play the mp3s. I had a password on my account and now that the comp it was on is dead I cannot go back and fix that. The 1525 uses SATA and the 8600 had PATA? i think thats right. But the main thing is I am locked out of my old files and not abe to transfer them.
What can I do? 8600 was xp and 1525 vista of course
I have replaced mother board and LCD of my Inspiron N5010. After replacement, it started to shut down constantly, usually 5-10 min after start up. I have run diagnostics, it showed error 2000-0413 (LCD cable not detected), but could not finish all diagnostic process, cause it shut down again during CPU memory test.
Is it possible that because of this error computer shut downs then working or it is two separated problems? Can it be that only cable connector causing error or it is a defect of new mother board?
My Dell Inspiron 15r 8 months old today suddenly started acting up. It keeps restarting after the dell logo screen. after reading up a bit online i have done the following
1)tried tapping f8 to boot via safemode but unsuccesful(also tried fn+f8 and shift+f8)
2)i have run diagnostics no error is encountered
3)i have entered bios menu and made changes to sata interface to ahci and other alternate options but to no avail
4)removed battery and pressed power button with power off for 15s but no result on giving power
I actually have grub bootloader through which i can open 3 operating systems i have-win7,and 2 unix based os's however as my laptop isnt going beyond the logo screen i cannot even enter my other operating systems to make any changes.
I just bought a N7010 and the cooling fan runs constantly. It keeps the laptop cool, but I don't think it is supposed to run constantly. Is this a firmware upgrade or something else?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've recently purchases a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 540 and it worked just fine untill earlyer today.While i was browsing the internet, some how my touchpad developed a problem.It only registeres right click where ever i click.I've deleted the drivers, even tho they were the knewest ones, downloaded a fresh .exe and installed it after the reset and what not and it still has the same problem.
If i turn off the touchpad in the ultranav software and enable only trackapad, the buttons work like they should, the large area in the touchpad registeres as the left click and the small area in the top right is registered as the right click. Tho i can't use the touchpad for navigation.So clicking doesn't works, well neither does tapping. I can doubletap normaly, but i cannot tap and drag such as selecting a block of text.
Again, i've already tried a fresh install of ultranav drivers and it didn't work. The problem manifested itself during normal browsing, nothing was installed nor changed hardware vise. It litteraly changed in a second.how to solve it since the driver reinstall didn't work.
I just bought this laptop 2 days ago. (on bestbuy). Out of the box, there was this soft scratchy noise from the HDD constantly ( with pauses now n then). I was not able to find any solution online. I tried different power plans and no change.

I am running Windows 8 and have looked to find where I can adjust the sensitivity of my touchpad but can't find it anywhere. I've seen other posts for other computers that suggest uninstalling the touchpad driver and reinstalling it. What I should do for my specific laptop to stop this from happening? Do I need to uninstall and reinstall the touchpad driver. If so, how do I do that for the Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 running Windows 8? I'm also keeping my hands off the touchpad while typing but the cursor still moves.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAbout a month ago my touchpad started to act up. I couldn't use the touchpad to click on anything with any consistency. I tried the reinstall of the driver but no change. I bought a new touchpad assembly and it worked perfectly for about a week. Now the pad part works but the scroll feature doesn't. When I install the latest driver from Synaptics the scroll works but the pad is erratic. I've rolled the driver back to the 2006 edition and the pad works perfectly but no scroll. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium.
