View 3 RepliesI got my laptop but did not do a clean install. I just removed all the bloatware I could think of. Is there a guide to do just that though, get rid of all the stuff that shouldn't be there so that you essentially have a clean install without all the bloat or footprints of it?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI can't install my integrated webcam. After downloading the driver and opening the file installation starts and then suddenly it just ends with the message there was an error during installing.
So the thing I've done are: installing the drivers, which failed.
I've also looked in the device managemer app but could find anything of a camera.
I will try to make this short and understandable......
I bought a XPS M1330 iwth Vista Home Premium Bios A07 in January 2008.
April 2008 I tried to install updates and it messed up my Microsoft Office 2007 so I got it back working and did not mess with anymore updates.
Around June 2008 I started having the notorious battery issues. The battery ran down while I was on it and the battery has never worked since. At first it said connected,
but not charging but then it eventually died while I was trying to fix the problem and now it says battery not detected and it says the ac adapter is not recognized (I have the original AC adapter sent with the computer) .....
I replaced hard drive with SSD and installed windows 7 ultimate (X64) on my HP Pavilion G4 notebook. However, I am not able to install switchable graphics on my laptop now.
I have tried this
1. Installed HPSA and ran update and tuneup. It asked me to update "AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver" but it failed with multiple retries and after some time now it doesnt ask to do this update at all. Now everything is green in HPSA but I am still not able to switch the graphics
2. Tried to download from HP drivers page but it says "AMD Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible harware/software on your computer"
3. Tried uninstalling the driver but windows updates the drivers automatically.
4. I also updated BIOS as suggested at [URL] ..... but still no luck......
Product Name: HP Pavilion g4 Notebook PC
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Service Pack 1
Product number : LQ375PA#AB
I have had an aspire 5920g for about 18 months now and it was all working fine until I updated the graphic drivers, but the drivers stopped installing halfway through and now I can't install any graphic drivers.
I tried to install my original drivers and they won't install. The system keeps freezing and I think thats the problem.
I've tried making a recovery disc but erecovery won't recognize blank DVD's and acer 'support' are only too happy to grab you by your feet, turn you upside down and let all your money fall out so they can charge you for a reovery disc - absolutely ridiculous - instead of actually trying to help me.
And also for some reason a yellow triangle appeared next to the ACEYTS4Y IDE controller a week after I got it but up until now didn't seem to cause any problems.
Doing a clean install of Vista and keep getting prompted to locate and install driver for "Coprocessor". Have looked in device manager (yellow mark) but I just don't know what it is. Windows says it can't locate software for it.
Don't know what I am looking for on Acers site under drivers, installed all other stuff OK, Realtek, NVidia etc. Could it be a modem driver. Properties in device manager give no clues, it's listed as "other devices" along with the webcam which I have to sort drivers out for too.
I have bought acer laptop.
1. This is Extensa 6702ZNWLMi
2. Intel Pentium M processor 735A
3. DVD-Dual double layer
Now when i press the power button it start and after some processing shows the following:
Linpus Linux Basic Edition v9.2 b060419c
[root@ localhost /]#
Now i dont understand this command [root@ localhost /]# and after this command cursor is blinking to write some thing.
I also dont know that how to launch that window in which i can change the boot priority. In my pc that i use in home i press del after starting my computer and a window comes where i change my boot priority and then boot from cd windows xp and install it. But in this case i dont know how to install xp. and my next question is that can i play cd in DVD-Dual double layer.
I'm using a Dell M-1530 laptop which had a factory installed Vista OS. Now I have bought a Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit OS and did a clean install (no upgrade), I used the Vista drivers and everything seems OK...
But, I have not full upload speed, I'm using a 10/10 Mb/s fiber/LAN internet connection. Download is as before 9,5 Mb/s but upload only ab. 3 Mb/s.
My second PC, a desktop with XP, shows 9,5/9,5 Mb/s and they are connected to the same router. I have changed LAN-cables but there is no change.
I have tried "DrTCP" but it did'nt make any major difference.
i am still under warranty, complete care, next day, bla-bla; i need to get a copy of the microsoft office small business disk so that i can reinstall after i reformat my HD. can i get this from Dell?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've just bought a refurbished M6400. It comes with no preinstalled OS. I have a dell install disk for Windows XP SP2. Is it ok to install this on my M6400? I will then update to SP3 over the web.
I guess i will also need to install drivers for the graphics card, etc etc.
Please let me know if you have any advice and pitfalls to watch out for.
I'm also considering adding a second hard drive. What drive specification do i need?
I REALLY want an XPS. The catch is I want to install XP-Pro on it immediately and run a dual-boot with Linux.
I've read tons of stuff on this forum about what one might encounter doing the XP-Pro install, but is there a concise set of directions on doing it, including getting all the correct XP-Pro drivers?
Dell could sell a lot more of these if they would ship them with XP-Pro like they do on other laptops. I just don't want to have to blow off a week trying to get my new computer glitch-free ...
I have no idea how to do this. When I visit the Dell site and input my laptops info it recommends driver updates.
Most installed without a problem, however the DVD/CD drivers are a mystery. There are 11 recommended updates to the drivers but I cant figure out how to install them.
Some are applications but most are zipped files. Where to begin?
Here are the file names:
Applications: R235097, R246607, TSST_TS_L633C-12-7SATA-TRAY-A06_R20075
Zipped files: AD-7580S FD06, DV_W28SV_ROB_UPDATER, GTION-WIN7-A107, HLDS-CTION-A104, R250548_KD03FW, SA3_HD14, SA4_JD12, SE1_ED14
I just purchased a 2x2gig set of ps2-5300 ram, and when I try to boot my laptop with it, just a couple of lights flash and then it shuts down.
I tried each stick alone, in each of the two spots, and the work fine alone. I called Dell, and they said this laptop only supports 2 gig of ram...
any way to still get the 4 gigs to work? Did they put a hard stop in the BIOS?
I have a friend that ask me to install XP on his Dell Mini 910.
I have a USB stick and follow the guide of this Youtube video.
However, when the usb finished loading files to the hard drives (the blue screen, you know), i booted with the USB again and choose the 2nd mode, the screen shown up there is a missing dll files and recommend me to reinstall the window.
I start it over and over, 5 times totally but samething happen.
if my inspiron 9300 would support 3 or 4 gb of RAM. I know 32-bit windows limits the amount of RAM that is recognized but I'm asking if the actual motherboard and BIOS would recognized 3 or 4 gb of RAM installed.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI received my new Inspiron 1720 on Wednesday, and was having really sluggish performance so I decided to reformat.
I put in my Vista Home Premium reinstallation DVD and rebooted, and formatted the hard drive in the setup menu but the install always gets stuck on either Completing Installation, or it goes past that to a black screen with the mouse cursor still showing. If I try to restart the machine at the black screen, Windows will not boot and it just shows the loading bar infinitely.
I tried re-seating both RAM sticks and re-seating the Hard Drive, also there are no external devices or anything plugged into the machine except the power cable. If anyone could help me I'd greatly appreciate it, this is driving me up the wall and like I said I only got this machine on Wednesday so this is quite upsetting. When Windows was on originally, I had really long load times, a lot of "stutter" in games, no errors or anything like that so I am thinking it's a faulty hard drive possibly.
Also just on the desktop, everything was slow to load up but I thought this was due to the amount of bloatware and such, this is why I decided to reformat in the first place.
I decided to install Windows 7 From a USB drive on my XPS 15z. I am using a USB thumb drive that is 3.0. When the computer first starts, I can select "Boot From USB" and the Windows installation will begin. Once I click "Install" to start the Win7 install, I noticed it was asking for drivers, as it can no longer see the USB thumb drive. When I try to browse, the USB thumb drive is missing for some reason. I believe it has to do something with the fact that the USB is being "Emulated" according to the BIOS. I need to be able to copy the USB 3.0 Chipset drivers (Renesas Driver) which can be downloaded here: URL... Into the RAM (Where Windows installs the VERY first files for Windows 7 Installation) during the very beginning of the install. Is there a folder that I can put them in, on the Windows 7 installation USB drive or the original ISO for the Windows 7 installation CD? So that when the Windows installer first starts, it copies the folders with the files needed to the RAM with everything else and the files can be accessed? (Since the USB can not be read from without the drivers)
Or is there a way to prevent the USB from hiding when I start to install Windows 7 from the USB drive?I have tried to use both of the two USB ports on the computer.I noticed in the BIOS it says "USB Emulation" and does not have an option to go to USB 2.0 as some suggested that I can find in the BIOS.
I have M1730 with windows Vista.
I just installed 2 x 120Gb hard drives, created RAID0 stripe, and trying to install Windows XP.
I Downloaded Intel SATA RAID drivers from support.dell.com. Trying to install them from a floppy during Windows XP install but get a BSOD every time its trying to load the driver
If anyone was successful in installing Windows XP on M1730 (with RAID 0)
This is the new notebook I am looking at - The Dell Studio S1555-018B - it looks pretty nice, and I am strongly considering purchasing it
I have a few questions regarding a clean install ..........
I tried several times to install Windows XP on my 1536.
Problem is that after "Windows loads all the files" and claims that "Setup is starting Windows" it will blue screen. This problem is not the disk, as I have tried Pro, Home, and Media Center edition all with burnt and OEM disks.
When I bought this xps 16 laptop there was an option appearing always at the time of login called "face recognition". Can somebody plz explain me how to get this back.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI got a new 120GB seagate Momentus 7200rpm HDD in the mail today. I wasn't expecting it yet (I actually wasn't expecting it to ship until today) so I wasn't ready for it.
I need to know how I can copy windows from my current 60GB HDD to my new 120GB...but I don't have a Windows Xp CD. I know there is some way to make an "image" of my current HDD? But when I research that it gets a little confusing because they are always how to's for backing up your files rater than making a CD that you can actually install on a blank HDD.
How many CD's will it take If I un-install all my programs first and basically just copy Windows itself?
I'm not interested in going out and buying an external caddy and copying directly to the new HDD externally UNLESS that is the only way to do it. I need a way that it can be done like...2day! cause i'm anxious!
Im running vista 64 home premium and want to use my upgrade discs to get to win 7.
If i want to delete the recovery partition when do i do it? Is the best process to back up my files and then do a recovery back to vistas original state when i first got the machine and them delete the recovery partition?
Then put in the win7 upgrade dvd? Can i merge the recovery partition with the main one in vista after to delete it?
I bought an M6400 with Vista-64, but I'm having a lot of issues getting that working with an RME cardbus audio interface.
So, as part of debugging, I'm trying to install XP on it instead, just to test. I've tried several XP install CDs we have and every single one of them gets
to "inspecting your computer's hardware configuration", then the text disappears and I get a blank screen
If you are thinking about formatting and re-installing the OS, and setting up new partitions, use GParted. It is a free and very easy to use program. I couldn't believe how easily it worked sparing me the $40-$60 that a good partition program uses. I just thought I would give these guys some free press since they do all that work for free.
View 9 Replies View RelatedUpon receiving my new Latitude XT2, per the usual, I'd like to perform a clean install of Windows Vista Business.
However, with Dell's ControlPoint software, I'm unsure of the best way to do this.
Those of you with a new Latitude, how did you go about a clean install? More specifically, how did you handle the Dell Control Point software?
Also, what exactly is "Control Vault" and what is it used for?
How well will the E6400 work without the dell DCP software installed. I've had the E6400 only two weeks and thinking of wiping the OS and installing Win 7 again with only the necessary drivers, without all the Dell software. The machine was using over 3.1 gigs of RAM yesterday and there was NOTHING running on the taskbar. Looked at the process list and there was no one process that was consuming my RAM, I was getting nickel and dimed by all the processes that are running. DCP seemed to be a big consumer as well as CPU time.
TIA
i rebooted with the windows xp cd in and after it does the first check and you press enter i do, and something comes up about cant continue because theres no hard drive detected?
