Dell Inspiron 13 :: Use The Alt Key To Insert Codes Into Text?
Jan 19, 2015
I want to use the Alt key to insert codes into text. Â But, when I hit the Alt key, it highlights a letter or number on menu commands for shortcuts in whatever program I am using. Â How do I turn that feature off in my laptop Inspiron 13 7000 series laptop?
I seem to have trouble with my on-screen keyboard when using the Dell Inspiron in tablet mode. Supposedly the on-screen keyboard will pop-up whenever I activate a text-insert area (such as search, or firefox, or IE, or etc) but there is no response.
In addition, I should be able to toggle it on/off through "settings" by swiping right but the keyboard icon is not available in settings when I swipe right. I *can* turn it on by going through..
Settings --> Ease of access --> Keyboard on
Though technically it shouldn't require those extra steps and I don't know why it isn't popping up on it's own. Also unsure why I can't find the icon in settings.
This laptop is brand new so I didn't change anything on it yet....
I been reading threads about dell beep codes problem. Mine comes up after days of expired waranty. Very dissapointed with it because I now that my 1 year waranty expired I can not contact Dell support anymore.
It's been unclear if the what's the problem cause but one thing is for sure. I am very dissapointed in Dell, looks like their product has only 1 year life span.
I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 1545. When I type, it will open windows (such as a find menu, replace menu, or even a new document) or reformat my text (hanging indents, etc.) out of the blue.
It acts as if the control key is being pressed, but I am very careful not to hit it. At first we thought it was a sticky key, but replacing the keyboard did not fix the problem.
We reinstalled all the drivers, ran diagnostics, etc., but none of it did any good. Dell support said they had never heard of this problem. Nothing they suggested helped. Finally we had them send us a replacement.
The second computer arrived yesteday and it does the exact same thing. When I am typing in Microsoft Word, Excel or even Notepad, it erases text (sometimes the entire document), opens random windows, etc.
What is going on? I can't believe that three keyboards in a row would be faulty, but the problem does not happen when I use a wireless keyboard. It has been less than a month since we ordered the computer originally. Is there anything that can be done or should I just return it and look elsewhere?
I have an Inspiron 14z laptop which is just over a year old. Both buttons on the touch pad are very hard to keep down which makes it very difficult to select text.
I have a one month old Inspiron 15 laptop. The touch pad is very very sensisitive and I am for ever dragging files around unintentionally. From time to time the touchpad seems to do what it wants to do and highlights lots of text.
I recently received the 2000-0142 error when running the diagnostics on my 7720 laptop. I found this to be a hard drive error and purchased another hard drive. After installing the new hard drive I received the 2000-0332 error.Â
resolving the 2000-0332 error to get my laptop back up and running?
I've got my new laptop coming from either Lenovo (a ThinkPad) or Dell (a Latitude). But Lenovo is making it very easy these days. It seems they have a new coupon code on their website every day.
Using their codes I can get a better-equipped 15-inch notebook from Lenovo than I can from Dell. What I like about the Lenovo codes is you can use them on any purchase.
Am I missing something? Where are the Dell deals? I've clicked on a couple of deal links on this site but I'm taken to regular Dell 'specials' landing pages which offer the same price as their non-deal pages.
I want to stop overtpying while typing. When I click using the cursor on the typed text it highlights a letter in the word instead of getting the cursor between letters. When I start typing it over writes the words ahead of it. How do I stop this?
In 2 days ive had my 1557 to just shut down 4 different times.Everything just goes boom off.It could be the DEMO game im playing but upon restart sometimes I get a beep code.
I just hit the power button and it shuts down then I hit it again and it POST and boots like normal
On the Thinkpad Helix how to use the F-keys and leave the End-key to be End and not Insert??The keyboard-dock of the Helix does not have a separate Insert key (but Fn+End)Now I need the F-keys to be default.. but I don't want to switch End to be Insert..These kind of changes made the Helix to be unusable for Visual Studio ....
I am unable to find any diagnostic codes (lights or beeps) for this model, the only one pdf manual doesn't have any pre boot diagnostics, only when laptop already booted into Windows environment...
On the keyboard, the "End/Insert" key is labeled such that it looks like End should be the default behavior. ("End" is printed in the same size type as "Home" on the neighboring key, with "Insert" in smaller type.) I would expect that key to be the End key, and that with Fn held down it would become Insert. Â In fact, the opposite is true--Insert is the default behavior, and I have to hold down Fn to get End. This seems like a mistake, since it's not consistent with the labels, and in any event it's very inconvenient--I use the End key a lot, and Insert almost never. Â I have swapped my Fn and Ctrl keys in the BIOS, if that makes a difference.
I know that I can use the character palette to do this, but I'm looking for a faster way.
I actually do have to use a few Greek letters with some frequency.
I know there are a few:
Option+J = ∆ Option+W = ‡” Option+P = ƒÎ
and so forth, but what about the other "biggies" -- alpha, beta, and gamma, for starters? Can't seem to find 'em; either there are no such codes, or I'm just not creative enough.
My wife's T400 (2767-CP9) died recently. The beep codes indicate a dead motherboard. Her HD is fine and in fact I was able to pull off data after putting the HD in another laptop and booting with a live Linux CD. So...the data is recovered and safe with nothing lost. Â Question is: I have found a few used T400's and am about to purchase one very close to hers and was curious if I would be able to just put her HD in the machine and just go from there. Â The machine in question is also a T400, but the exact model number is 2767-H7U. Would the difference between a 2767-CP9 and 2767-H7U matter? Â here are the stats for both: URL...
The only difference besides batteries seems to be the processor. If windows balks at this, can I just do a "product recovery" in the new machine with the old HD? The only reason this is an issue is.....her laptop was a refurb unit purchased from IBM and came with win7 as OS. The replacement machine in question has windows vista installed.
i have a HP 2000 nopebook PC and its giving me a black screen with no error codes or beeps. I can hear the startup sounds and see the screen brighten up and then gets dim. When I hook it up to an external moniter it comes up. I have tested the memory, the inverter, I tried draining the battery and I even tried updating the graphics card and still nothing.
The T440s has no embedded number pad and no Num Lock key. Â I post to a weather blog and the degree symbol (Num Lock > Alt+248) is almost as common as the letter A. Â Â 1. Â How do I insert ASCII characters, such as the degree symbol, using the T440s keyboard? Â From reading specs and reviews of third party USB number pads, it appears that the combination of Num Lock, Alt and the number pad does not work to insert ASCII characters. Â 2. Â Will the Lenovo 33L3225 Thinkpad Numeric Keypad allow me to insert ASCII character codes as if it were part of a full keyboard? Â I find the omission of this function on the T440s puzzling.
I have a HP Stream 11 signature edition and I can't enlarge the text,is this just the way it is?I went to control panel and got to the slider that said small to large and it wouldn't let me slide it.
Got an issue with new Dell Precision M3800 + HD 3100 Dock. My issue with with the mouse pointer. After using the laptop for 2-3 hours, I'm getting an issue in which the mouse pointer will jump over text boxes (does this in any browser, when trying to click in the formula field in excel, even when clicking in this dialog box to type). Basically what's happening is the mouse pointer thinks the text box is higher than it really is.Â
So, if I go up to the address bar from under, as I pass over the bar, the arrow changes to a text cursor, but jumps above the actual address bar...if I click, I can type in the bar. If I keep going, eventually the arrow pointer will come back, but it will jump back down to the actual top of the address bar. In the case of typing in this box for posting, in order to get the cursor here " ", I have to click where I have the star above (in the word "can").Â
It just seems like something is very out of sync, and I'm thinking it has to do with the graphics card or some resolution setting. I have an Acer V246HL set to 1920x1080 + a Viewsonic VA2746M set to 1920x1080 as well. Only fix I've found so far is to reboot. I've messed around with the resolution numerous times. This issue only appears when connecting multiple monitors (which is a necessity). I did not have this issue w/ my previous laptop, which leads me to think this is not a monitor issue either
This is on a HDX16 running Vista Home Premium SP1. The maximum/normal resolution is 1920x1080, but that was alittle small so I changed it to 1360x768. Now all the text (really everything) looks out of focus.
using a mac as my 'daily driver' and have noticed an ODD difference between mac and win.
In windows if you want to run 1, 2, 5 or 10+ copies of the same app... just launch it again. Apps can restrict their instance count if they want but in general you can run as many copies of something as you want.
On the mac... the 'launch' icon becomes the 'goto' icon after the app has been launched... so there doesnt seem to be a way of easily launching a second copy of the same program.
So is there a way to do this? when im doing web work on windows ive been known to have 30+ notepad windows open... dont see a way to do this on the mac. Am i missing something?
Is there anyway to display/embed text on the Mac desktop, either off of a text file or just punching it into a menu or something, in any font I want? (I did notice Geektool, but it seems like I can't adjust the font, and it's out of date - not for Leopard).
I just want to be able to display like a daily 'motto' or something on it.
My E6400 Atg has been shutting down on me at least once a day. I don't do any graphics, but I usually have a large text file open with about 6 pictures in it and I stream pandora constantly.
Usually it is when I have a pop up accessing a remote database. It hangs up then poof. Screen goes black. When I hit power it starts to open, but then hard shuts down. When I feel the vent fan it is hot. Not super hot, but hotter than I think it should be.
I have the system set for high power usage with the cpu fan set to active cooling. I have the processor set to minumum processor speed 50% max 100%.
I have 4 gb ram, T9900 processor and a SSD hardrive.
It was doing this last year, but only when I had it on a soft surface that restricted airflow. Even then it was just slowing down drastically and would resolve itself once I took off my lap or what ever soft surface it was on.
