HP/Compaq :: Changed Resolution Now Blurry Text
Aug 31, 2009
This is on a HDX16 running Vista Home Premium SP1. The maximum/normal resolution is 1920x1080, but that was alittle small so I changed it to 1360x768. Now all the text (really everything) looks out of focus.

I've got a Sony VAIO Z690. I'm trying to connect it to my Westinghouse L2410M monitor - it is a 24" 1920 x 1200. Connection is through HDMI.
I've got it running at native resolution, but the text on Windows and applications look blurry. Colors also look dull.
Strangely, when I played a 1080p movie, the quality seemed ok. But once I closed the movie, the text is still blurry and the colors are dul

Some texts look blurry on some windows. I have attached a picture to show you what I mean. If you see "Device Manager" window, the text is blurry. On the other "System" window, the text is just fine.

i just bought a Sony Vaio Z (1600x900 resolution) and noticed that the 1600x900 resolution is way to small for me, cant barley see any text on the screen
so when i change to the next resolution (1280x) all the text and fonts get horribly blurry and "loses" the crisp that it had in the 1600x

Im currently on a 15.4" MBP with 1440x900 resolution and text looks perfect. Im a little worried that the extreme resolution on the 17" might be too much and text wont be legible.
Im hoping people with experience can chime in with their input.
I am forced to get the 17" new MBP because of the matte option (stupid apple sells the 15" with only a glossy screen), so I will get it but only if the text is legible on websites, etc..

Relatively soon after a Windows Update (Vista), my screen blacked out and the resolution changed from 1920x1200 to something like 800x600. After restarting the notebook, everything seemed to be back to normal, except my graphics card (GeForce 8800M GTX x 2) wasn't working, and upon looking in the device manager, it said the device wasn't working (code 43).
So, I tried uninstalling drivers/reinstalling drivers, etc. and nothing seemed to work. And now something I've done has made the main VGA drivers or whatever not work, and all I see is a big black screen on startup (but the mouse icon is on the screen and can move around).

I recently bought a new hard disk for my travelmate 800. I downloaded all the necessary drivers but seem to have a problem with the radeon vga xp driver. Its version 7.83 which seems to be the latest but the only resolution I can have the screen is 1450 x 1300 or something like that which is hurting my eyes as everything is too small. On lesser resolutions graphics and fonts are blurred. On the display settings it only shows options if you have two monitors. The ATI control panel doesnt do anything either.
My old installation still had the original drivers as far as I know and I never had this problem.

My friend has a VGN-FE590 that has problem with the LCD. She thinks its the video card, but I don't think it is, I think it's the LCD itself. The LCD as soon as it turns on turns into a weird grayish color and it looks like someone filled the inside of the LCD with some liquid although she knows nothing about it. I can output to an external monitor perfectly fine, so I don't think it's the video card. I pulled the laptop display apart today thinking it might have been the wires going from the motherboard to the LCD, or from the LCD to the inverter, but it made no difference, the wires all looked fine, and jiggling them around did nothing.
Basically what happens when you turn it on, it loads to the windows login screen, you can barely see anything, and if you move the mouse, you just see it slowly disappear off the screen, and then reappear where you move it, like you can't see the cursor when moving it.

My TV's native resolution is 1366 x 768. My VAIO FW-190 has Intel Chipset and both the Windows built in software and Intel provided graphic card settings software do not show the 1366x768 resolution. I can't find a way to set the Vaio's HDMI output to that resolution.

I got a brand new Studio 1737 for my 18th Birthday in July, since then I've noticed that the screen often blurs and goes fuzzy when running applications that require even the most basic graphics (Solitare for example).
I called Dell, and they picked up the laptop, only to return it a week later saying nothing was wrong with it. Its still blurry.
Since then, I've installed Windows XP, Vista, 7, and even Linux (Xubuntu and Ubuntu). XP, and both Linux work fine, but Vista and 7 dont. its getting really frustrating. Any ideas of what to do?

I have a D620 Latitude. Two days ago I had it on stand-by mode and I restart it. The screen was blurry/offset with pink lines appearing in certain blueish areas. I saw also that there was a message coming out of the notification area at the bottom right saying that the virtual memory was low. To make you understand what I mean by offset, when I right the letter "I" I can see a ghosting effect with a second "I" appearing next it. So what I see is almost an "II". It is as if 50% of the pixel information are tranferred to a few pixels to the left or right.
OK so I did my search and found the DELL support [URL] .....
I checked and updated the drivers to the proposed (BIOS to A08 and NVIDIA to A10) but nothing.I then had a look at the BIOS and I could see also some distortion. I guess that means that there are hardware issues. I then run the diagnostics on the BIOS and it gave me two errors DST 1000-1046 which I guess it means that there is some sort of driver issue. I run the chdsk /f and it found no errors to fix. So am stiull trying to understand if this is a hardware or software issue. I have not yet the wire to make the connection to another display. I saw an article on the web from someone who made a change in a .inf file of NVIDIA claiming that this blurring/offset is because of missing information in the NVIDIA .inf file.

I currently own a dv5-1235dx. The native resolution for this laptop is 1280x800. However, when I connect the HDMI cable to my laptop, the maximum resolution my display settings will allow is 1024x768. This makes it look awful on the TV, stretching a 4:3 display across a 16:9 screen.

It has a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS vid card.
Is the video card the only thing that effects this?

I would like to know if I can upgrade my lcd resolution to 1680x1050 (of course, I am talking about buying another lcd here). I know both resolutions have a 1.60 aspect ratio. And also that this model was offered with 1680x1050 displays.
I am using Vista Bussiness and XP Professional (32bits). The video hardware installed in my laptop is: Mobile Intel(R) GM965 Express Chipset.

I have a HP HDX18t w/ Windows 7 Home Premium and the Nvidia GeForce GT 130M video card. I'm trying to hook up a Dell 30" LCD monitor with a native resolution of 2560x1600 via the HDMI output using a HDMI to DVI cable. Doing so, the system will only allow the external Dell a max resolution of 1280x800 while the HDX screen stays at 1920x1080. The 1280x800 look really bad. I want to use its native resolution of 2560x1600 or atleast the 1920x1080. When I use VGA output, nothing shows up on 30" (blank black screen).
Using my 24" Dell, I can get 1920x1080 either via the VGA or HDMI (to DVI) fine. Based on my research it seems to be a limitation of the Nvidia GeForce GT 130M because it just doesn't allow that high a resolution (i.e. no dual-link DVI capabilitiy). Is this true? Or am doing something wrong?
Is there any solution in using a 30" monitor with the HP HDX18t? Will one of those Matrox DualHead2Go devices work to run the 30" and 24 inch monitor simultaneous at 1920x1200. I'll be fine with that. My wife is firm in using the 30" monitor we have. Is this a loss cause and I have to get another laptop that will support a 30" external monitor? If so, any advice on which one.

Not sure whether the highest resolution will be too small for my liking -- if I get the 1920x1080 screen can I decrease the resolution without any problems if it turns out I don't like the highest resolution?

How can I get the exact resolution of 1360x768 (720p) in my HP dv2700 using the HDMI cabel? I currently have the 179.48 drivers installed and I couldnt figure a way to get a 1360x768 !? I tried using customs resolution but it wont work, the TV (samsung) keeps giving me a 1920x1080 which is not the native resolution.
I also own a desktop with an Nvidia 8800gt graphics card and it recognizes the 1360x768 resolution immediately, I dont why this is happening since both the laptop and desktop use similar drivers?

I have a three year old DV 9207us. Has GeForce Go 7600 video card.
I had to do a clean install of Windows Vista Home 32 bit. I installed service pack sp42635 for the nvidia driver. The highest resolution I can get is 1024 X 768. it was higher before the operating system re-install. I have uninstalled the Nvidia drivers back to the generic VGA drivers and then reinstalled the Nvidia drivers. Still max resolution is 1024 x 768 under display settings.
What am I missing to get the resolution to 1440 x 990?

A friend of mine has an HP Pavilion ze4420us laptop and seems to have a problem. When his computer starts up the screen is reduced in size so that all you can see is a 6"x6" area that's using the screen. Everything is displayed normally inside this "box". Once windows loads it's fine though.
some manufactures have a "Fn+key" or "shift+key" type of shortcut that will change an internal setting and enlarge or reduce the picture being displayed.
