I want to stop overtpying while typing. When I click using the cursor on the typed text it highlights a letter in the word instead of getting the cursor between letters. When I start typing it over writes the words ahead of it. How do I stop this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Lenovo 3000 N100 with Windows Vista. I want to disable the touchpad when using a USB mouse. The touchpad does not show up in the control panel under 'mouse'. There is no button anywhere near the touchpad. There is no function key with a mouse or touchpad symbol visible on it. There are 4 buttons on the top right, 3 control volume, and the 4th one looks like an orange suitcase with a wrench, but it doesn't appear to do anything. How I can disable the touchpad to stop the cursor from jumping all over when I'm typing?

I bought an envy about a month ago and have been working through the usual new laptop quirks. There are plenty of hard-to-notice-until-bought pros and cons that I might pour over some time, but right now I'd just like to mention my findings with respect to the Envy Quick Launch keys that are located on the left of the keyboard.
By default, these keys open up a mail program, HP's MediaSmart SmartMenu, a web browser, printing, and the Windows calculator program. You can see them on the left side of the keyboard, with labels I'll explain in a moment:
There's no way in the HP software to customize the buttons, so I did a little bit of fishing around and found some useful information.
My original intent was to make a small program that would sit in the system tray and simply have a menu to disable all the buttons at will or re-enable them. The buttons are nice, but they aren't the most useful thing to have enabled when one is trying to play a full-screen game. I'd keep getting sent back to the desktop because I accidentally opened a calculator instead of pressing ctrl............

View 9 Replies View RelatedOnce again, my Lenovo Thinkpad 430 (running under Windows 7) is persistently selecting whatever the pointer is sitting over. This happens periodically, and it drives me crazy. I've been able to cure this in the past, but today I've been unable to do so. The "Activate a window by hovering over it with a mouse" feature in Windows is NOT selected. Windows is set to require a double-click to open a window. At various times in the past I've disabled the "tapping" feature in the Lenovo touchpad (the touchpad is the only pointer device I use), but today I can't even find those settings to make sure that they are still disabled. What am I forgetting to do?

New problem after installation, text cursor does not always step one place to the right every key press but jumps back & inserts new text within previous text typed. Reduced the frequency of errors by installing free program "Touchfreeze", but it is still a problem. Keyboard is a standard PS/2 type. Suspect a keyboard driver problem (bug). Have latest driver installed for Pavilion dv8025EA.

I checked whether there was a software due to which it was happening, but, I didn't install any kind of software which can harm the functioning of the keys. Whenever I press F2 or F3, it just shows the slidebar (it doesn't go up and down though) and when I click on the top of the slidebar, nothing happens again. I also tried to go to the brightness option in the Windows Mobility Centre and tried to adjust the brightness - but nothing is happening.
The function keys on my keyboards are working in the opposite manner. Whenever I press any of the keys from F1 to F12 they perform the multimedia actions or their enhanced action. For example, if I press the F2 key the brightness of my laptop screen would lower. It should not work like this. I should be pressing Fn+F2 for the brightness of my screen to lower. The problem here is that I can't use Alt+F4 to close windows because its reversed, I instead have to press Alf+Fn+F4.
I have already search for an answer online and I can only find that NumLock is supposed to be locked. But, it's a laptop - I have no such key.
So I know the power on password for my hp pavillion 360 laptop however no matter how many times I change the administrator password by using cmd net user admininistrator when I try and go back and axcesss bios settings it asks for an administrator password. When I try the one I just set three times I get this error code.. 85986809

When I could no longer adjust my brightness is when I noticed that my function keys were not working. Is there any other way to adjust the brightness on my laptop besides the function keys? If so I have not figured it out.

But, I want to disconnect all this horror absolutely. Also I don't understand as it to make. I can enter BIOS, but the majority of points thus is unavailable.
I got this Notebook-PC in 2012 it is a G7 series I am fairly sure. My problem is that when I turn off the computer and turn it back on, there is no (esc) option to open bios menu or any option for that matter. Just a blue HP symble directly in the middle of the screen with a small loading symbol below it. I have pressed esc, f1-f10, and pretty much every other key to try to access it. All I really want to do is disable the most annoying f1-f12 function keys.
I am no longer under warranty and my operating system is Windows 8. There are also no error messages at all, just no response to anything just loads up to the password login screen.
On the keyboard, the "End/Insert" key is labeled such that it looks like End should be the default behavior. ("End" is printed in the same size type as "Home" on the neighboring key, with "Insert" in smaller type.) I would expect that key to be the End key, and that with Fn held down it would become Insert.
In fact, the opposite is true--Insert is the default behavior, and I have to hold down Fn to get End. This seems like a mistake, since it's not consistent with the labels, and in any event it's very inconvenient--I use the End key a lot, and Insert almost never.
I have swapped my Fn and Ctrl keys in the BIOS, if that makes a difference.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe SSD in my laptop (HP Pavilion dv7t-6c00 CTO Quad Edition) recently died, so I got a new 120GB SSD and installed a non-OEM version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (this is because my SSD apparently isn't large enough for the Recovery Disks HP sent me -- long story). The past few days I've been installing all the necessary drivers, and just about everything is working like it did weeks ago. However, there is one problem: my TouchPad can no longer be turned off by double-tapping in the top-left corner.
I've tried three different Synaptics TouchPad drivers. The one found on HP's website (v. 15.3.11.0), the one I get when I click "update driver software" in Device Manager (v. 15.3.29.0), and the one found on Synaptics' own website (v. 17.0.19). I've checked out "TouchPad Properties" for all of them, and they've not been of any support.
For my current driver, however, when I click on "settings" under "Tapping," there's an area called "TouchPad Disable Zone Settings," that has a checkbox that says: "Double Tap to Enable or Disable TouchPad". However, the entire area is grayed out, and I can't check or uncheck the box (though, for what it's worth, it is currently checked). I candisable it manually in the "TouchPad Settings" tab of "Mouse Properties," but I'd prefer to just get the shortcut functionality back.
I seem to have trouble with my on-screen keyboard when using the Dell Inspiron in tablet mode. Supposedly the on-screen keyboard will pop-up whenever I activate a text-insert area (such as search, or firefox, or IE, or etc) but there is no response.
In addition, I should be able to toggle it on/off through "settings" by swiping right but the keyboard icon is not available in settings when I swipe right. I *can* turn it on by going through..
Settings --> Ease of access --> Keyboard on
Though technically it shouldn't require those extra steps and I don't know why it isn't popping up on it's own. Also unsure why I can't find the icon in settings.
This laptop is brand new so I didn't change anything on it yet....
