Dell Inspiron 1545 :: Windows 8 - Both Mouse And Touchpad Operate Cursor - Disable Button Inactive
Apr 15, 2013I wish to disable the touch pad on my Inspiron 1545 with Windows 8.. I have a Logitech wireless mouse. Currently both the mouse and the touch pad operate the curser. I want to only use the mouse. In Windows 7 the default was mouse only as soon as the wireless interface was installed. This is not the case with Windows 8.
I've been told to go to the Device driver and select the touch pad under Mouse and other pointers. The touch pad is not listed. I've tried disabling the PC Mouse compatible but the disable button is inactive.

Nov 10, 2013I have a Lenovo 3000 N100 with Windows Vista. I want to disable the touchpad when using a USB mouse. The touchpad does not show up in the control panel under 'mouse'. There is no button anywhere near the touchpad. There is no function key with a mouse or touchpad symbol visible on it. There are 4 buttons on the top right, 3 control volume, and the 4th one looks like an orange suitcase with a wrench, but it doesn't appear to do anything. How I can disable the touchpad to stop the cursor from jumping all over when I'm typing?

Aug 18, 2009Mouse is jumping all over the screen - I believe because it is easy to accidentally brush the touchpad while typing.
The Control Panel - Mouse on this Latitude no longer has an option to independently enable/disable the touchpad and the pointing stick - but surely there is a way to do this on this e4300.

Nov 8, 2014New ThinkPad T440p and the first issue I encountered is there is no option to disable the touchpad when an external mouse is detected. I don't want to do it via the bios or some other hack as I use the touchpad when it is not convenient to use an external mouse. So it should be able to do the switching as needed, this is a simple feature that other manufacturers have had for years and years.
I already upgrade the UltraNav Driver to the latest v18.0.7.57 and that didn’t present a solution. I am running Windows 7 SP1 - 64bit.

I used an external keyboard and mouse to over ride the problem but from time to time, it acts as if a button on the built in keyboard is being pressed (for instance ctrl on the laptop is being held down so when I type the letter "f" on the external keyboard, I end up opening the Search tool). I don't know the internal mechanism of this laptop, but is there a way I could disable the laptop's keyboard and touchpad, and continue functioning only through the USB external keyboard and mouse? I tried uninstalling the drivers.

The mouse on the touchpad hangs up intermittently, sometimes for several seconds. This erratic behavior makes using the mouse terribly difficult.
When scrolling using the mouse on a vertical scroll bar, the right click menu for the desktop keeps popping up. I must move the mouse away from the scroll bar, left click to get rid of the right click menu, and return the mouse to the scroll bar. Sometimes this behavior is constant when scrolling through a long page, making it impossible to use the mouse to scroll.

Mar 19, 2009I just upgraded from 32 bit Vista to 64 bit Vista (it was free). The onboard mouse buttons and touchpad work fine in Vista 64. My problem is that I always use an external mouse. When I'm typing and my palm hits the touchpad my cursor moves. In Vista 32 bit I could set the onboard mouse buttons and trackpad to switch off in the Dell touchpad driver whenever an external mouse is plugged in. There is no 64 bit Vista driver to download from Dell. How do I turn this touchpad off?
