Dell :: Inspiron 13z Thoughts And Questions After 24 Hrs

Nov 6, 2009

)the screen is nice but its quite reflective though im using it on the train right now and havent had an issue but taking outside in bright sun may be a problem (cant test that right now as its winter here in blighty).

The screen doesnt fold all the way back but currently that hasnt been an issue

the perfect viewing angle has the screen far back enough as to possibly cause annoyance if sitting on a plane/train but only if your really picky

keyboard is nice to use no flex to note and its a good size to type on

Dell :: EPP And Inspiron Mini 9 Questions

Jan 22, 2009

so I am going to use my EPP to buy a secondary Studio 17, 24" monitor and an Inspiron Mini 9. Out of curiosity, because I really do not know, is there a difference in build quality, materials, workmanship, etc...

for people that have an EPP with Dell and order systems and other devices by Dell? Do "Home" systems differ from EPP systems? Like do EPP systems use used parts or remanufactured parts for a new system? Just curious....

Dell :: Inspiron 6400 E1505 And 4GBs Of Memory (Questions About Dual Channel Mode)

Apr 13, 2009

I have a question about 4gb of memory on inspirons. I recently put in 4GB's memory in my inspiron (Corsair brand) and I am running XP(x86) aka 32bit. Windows sees 3.25gb's which is exactly correct.

Awhile back I read that the inspiron motherboard which is an intel, will not run the memory in Dual Channel mode, which will slow the memory down about 3-5%. However I am not sure of how true or not this is. I put the memory and checked my bios and its showing all 4GB's and "Dual Channel" enabled.

So the question is how real is this dual channel concern if the bios is saying its in dual channel mode? PS we are both running the latest bios A17.

Dell :: Mini 10 Initial Thoughts

Apr 16, 2009

I just recieved my Dell Inspiron Mini 10 in Jade Green. I ordered it from the outlet store for the great price of $340 + shipping. The system would have cost me $489 to build. Specs follow...

Intel Atom Z530 @ 1.6 GHz with 533 MHz FSB
1GB DDR2 RAM @ 533 MHz
160GB Hard drive @ 5400 rpm
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 500
10.1" LED LCD 1024 x 576
Jade Green
Windows XP Home Edition with SP3
Dell wireless 1397 b/g
1.3 Megapixel Webcam
24 WHr Lithiom-Ion 3-cell battery

As I took the Mini 10 out of the box I was suprised and pleased. In all the pictures I've seen of the Mini 10 in Jade green on the Dell site it's looked very tacky to me. This is a very nice matallic lime green. It's very similar to the lime green avalible on VolksWagen New Beetles .....

Dell :: Some Thoughts On Parting With My 1710

Jul 20, 2007

I love my Dell M1710, even more now that it has a new 7950 GTX in it, but the more I think about it, the more I don't know if I really need "Gaming on the go." I really could live without playing lots of games in college. I do love gaming though. I was thinking of possibly selling the M1710 and buying in its place a smaller much cheaper laptop that could handle basically everything the the m1710 could except for of course gaming. On the side I'd also prolly buy a sweet desktop rig that I could upgrade as I saw fit (and as I got paid), possibly from ibuypower.com.

I forgot to post my question I got so caught up haha...Anyone who's had a m1710 and sold, care to give me some insight? Or if you could direct me to my next purchase, that would be helpful as well.

Dell :: Just Got M1530, Now Having Strong Second Thoughts. Your Opinions Please

Jan 10, 2009

T5800 (2.0 GHz), 4 GB RAM, 320 GB 5400 RPM HD, WUXGA display, Blu-Ray Burner, 8400 GS video card, and all the other standard stuff.

I picked it up primarily because I had some minor issues with the HP HDX16T I bought about a month ago. I loved it, but it was really about 2-3 pounds too heavy (with 12 cell battery) and the battery didn't last very long at all. It was similarly equipped, in that it had both the HD display (16" 1920x1080) and Blu-Ray drive (only a reader).

Unfortunately the battery in the XPS really didn't give me quite the performance time boost that I hoped it would, and the display looks like absolute crap compared to the HP (no offense to anyone here).

I had heard all this business about the "grainy" displays from Samsung, but I hoped either I wouldn't be afflicted or just wouldn't notice. Well, turns out I do notice...a lot.

What's worse is that it's inferior to the HP display in every other way too - color reproduction looks way off (everything is WAY too blue out of the box), its less forgiving of viewing angle, and overall the colors are just really muted in comparison.

Is it possible that I just got a bad one? Most of the posts on here indicate the only way to "fix" this issue is to replace your screen, which seems a bit daunting to be honest .....

Acer :: Aspire 1410 Thoughts

Mar 8, 2010

I purchased the Acer Aspire 1410-2920 less than two weeks ago, and I seem to be having some issues with mine. I'd love to know if anyone here has experienced these issues as well. I've been using it and have been enjoying it, but now I'm having second thoughts with it and am considering exchanging it for something else. I'd rather not go the exchanging route, but it's something I'm seriously thinking about.

-- ISSUE #1 / LOOSE HINGES --
As posted in another thread created by me about weak hinges on my1410, I'm currently on my second one since the first one had loose hinges. The hinges on my newer one are better but definitely not as firm/strong as I'd like them. Is this normal? Is there any way I can try tightening them myself?

-- ISSUE #2 / HEAT ISSUES --
It gets freakin' hot after only using it for 20-30 minutes. Is that normal? I have the 1810tray application installed, and even if I have the fan set on the highest setting it gets to about 55-57 degrees Celsius. Why does it get so damn hot? All I have running at most times is Firefox and possibly iTunes, but usually not more than two applications. I do notice, though, that it gets incredibly warm when I'm watching video podcasts or movies (MP4s). Anyone else experiencing heat issues on theirs? I've never used a laptop in my life (which I've been using for 15+ years) that gets as warm/hot as this 1410. Is there something I can do to turn down the heat?

-- ISSUE #3 / DOESN'T SIT FLAT --
When it's sitting on a flat surface, all four rubber points on the bottom don't sit flush. The front fright rubber foot doesn't touch the surface, so when you're typing on it there's a very slight rocking motion. When I type it makes the screen rock/wiggle. It's hard to describe it, but it's quite bothersome. Does this happen with anyone else? I can provide a video clip of it if needed, just have to take video of it.

Also i would like to buy a backlit keyboard and a bluetooth adapter. Is there any store where I can find both? I need shipping to Canada.

All 1537 have a LED backlit screen?

A little about myself. I live in Fresno, Ca. I own my own local auto enthusiast message board, as well as manage a high-end car stereo shop.

My current machine: Dell Inspiron E1705

-Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2300E (1.66GHz/667MHz FSB)
-1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
-NVIDIA GeForce GO 7900 256mb Graphics Card
-17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™
-Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy® ADVANCED HD Audio
-Intel® PRO 3945 and Dell 350 Bluetooth Internal Wireless Cards

Dell is in the process of 'System Exchanging' this machine. They are sending me a Studio 17. I have of course, like every other tech-nerd, watched and read every review I could find, but reviews never tell you what they like and dislike over time. I'm hoping I can get some honest opinions here .....

Dell :: E6500, Intel WiFi And Other Questions

Feb 21, 2009

After some troubleshooting, it seems to be related to the Intel Wifi services, of which I have several listed under "Services" in msconfig.

My Wifi card is the Intel 5300 and if I only run the Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Service, start-up happens without lag.
If I add any of the other Intel Services (Wireless REgistry Service, Wireless SSO Service, Wireless Event Log), it can take several minutes of unresponsiveness before things finally work.

Do I need these other services? WiFi seems to work fine, as far as I can tell. I use the Intel Conncection Manager , not the Dell utility to connect.

Second question: I move my laptop frequently from the table to my lap and back, and the adapter plug comes lose fairly easily, even though the cord is not pulling on it.
Is this a common problem with the E6500?..
