But suddenly it appears like Bootmgr Corrupt , Cannot boot the laptop. I searched many forums and websites to find a solution for my Issue. I got to know that i have to use recovery cd to recover the boot files but i lost my CD long back, i tried to download from URL... but i couldn't find it.... Any better way to get my 1440 back to the working state.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1440 that won't boot now. Using WinVista Ultimate and needed to reboot but it hangs after the Dell logo/Inspiron screen with the white status bar is completed at the bottom of the LED screen. I removed the 500GB HD and inserted a new 1TB Win7 Professional that I've been working on for the last couple of weeks and it won't boot either. Same situation on both HD (2 Win OSes on same laptop with same issue). FYI, I have 8GB RAM in the laptop (been that way for couple of years) but I don't suspect the RAM as the issue. I do have 2-2GB RAM DIMMs that came with the laptop initially in case that's a test I need to make.
Functionally, it appears like the boot sector on the HD isn't "available" but I've tried two (2) different HDs and I get the same issue. Hence, I think it's not a HD issue.
What IS the issue and what are my options? Laptop appears to be fine otherwise. New motherboard? $$??
Pressing F2 or F12 doesn't get me anywhere at startup time either.
I just realized that both the new Inspiron 14 and Studio 14z are numbered as the "1440". Usually Dell avoids duplicating the model number- Inspiron 1525, Studio 1535, Inspiron 1545, Studio 1555, etc.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen i'm turn on my HP envy 4-1257er after the sudden shutdown on the screen displays the HP logo that says "please wait". After a few seconds appears the "blue screen with a sad smiley" and further reads:
"Recovery. Your PC needs to be repaired. The boot configuration data file is missing some required information. File: BCD. Error code: 00xc0000034. You need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. Is your don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer. Press ESC for UEFI firmware settings. "
After pressing the ESC button opens a Startup Menu with a choose an actions like: f1 - system information (worked), f2 - system diagnostic (worked), f9 - boot device options (doesn't work) , f10 - BIOS setup (doesn't work), f11 - system recovery (doesn't work). When I click on these buttons (f9, f10, f11) again loaded a blue screen with an error. On the usb-drives with images does not respond in any way.
I had to install a new hard drive onto Dell Inspiron 17R (5720, Mid 2012). Ordered new hard drive from Dell, and also Operating System reinstall DVD. Windows was loading, but computer shut down and did not restart. I pressed the power button to restart, but now get 'BOOT MGR is missing' error, and don't know what to do next. I chose 'Custom Installation' and selected the only hard drive that was visible when prompted. Computer will not restart with DVD or without DVD. What now? Windows 7-

My recovery volume seems corrupted. I have no recovery cd or usb stick created because I never powered my pc on.
I tried to turn on my laptop today and during the computer booting up received a windows Error Recovery Screen . It said windows failed to start . a recent hardware or software change might be the cause and gives me two options. If i choose Launch start up repair i get a blank screen for hours and nothing happens . If i try to start windows normally nothing happens . I just used the computer the other day and it was working fine i didn't add any new hardware or software so i'm not sure whats going on . I am running The Dell Diagnostics using the F12 Diagnostics Testing Now
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an Inspiron 5520 with Win 8 and for the last few days every time the system boots up I get the following message: "checking media (fail)". The message appears twice then the system boots normally. All the programs/apps work fine. The only "media" program I used was Windows Movie Maker and it works just fine.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using dell inspiron 3521 windows 8 preloaded. Whenever i start my laptop. It stuck on dell logo with full blue bar. And after few minutes, a blue screen shows that some files are missing. Error code: 0xc0000185.
When i diagnosed..its showing error code 0142. Hard drive error. And when i force it to boot. It shows in black screen with white letters "no bootable device found, press any key". And when i press any key.. Its repeating the same error... Now i dont know what is happening.. Warranty over..
I am using dell inspiron N5050 iam having problem with it , its showing status :0xc000000f
Info: an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
My Ideapoad P500 is approximately 16 months old (so the warranty period is out, obviously!) A couple of nights after a reboot I got the message "Repairing Hard Disk errors. This could take an hour or longer."... or something very similar. The laptop hung up at that message for more than 18 hours.
I did a hard reboot and now get the message "Checking media" followed by the error "Boot failed." This leads to the message, "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed."No I don't have any recovery media.Yes I have pretty recent backups so that is not a problem.I've got an enclosure that I can use to hook my laptop hard drive up to so I can see if the drive is even readable.
Now here is the 64 thousand dollar question... how do I get the hard drive out of the laptop? I have taken the five screws out of the back. At that point, I think the DVD drive should slide out, but it does not.how to get the hard drive out?
I have a y500 Lenovo gaming laptop with Windows 8, and for the past couple of days, each time my laptop is put in hibernation or powered down, whenever I turn it back on it gives me this message:
"Default Boot Device Missing or boot failed Insert recovery media and hit any key Then select boot manager to choose a new boot device to boot or recovery media."
Then it brings me to a page with 3 boot options, and only the Windows Boot Manager works. I'm doing scans and hardware scans but so far nothing is being found. This laptop is less than 2 months old so I really don't think it's a hardware problem, and I haven't downloaded anything recently that may have messed this up. I would contact Lenovo but I'm unsure if this is an issue with the laptop, or Windows 8.
I have a Acer E1 522-3657 computer, which my son set-up for me but did not make the recovery disc(s). The unit is just outside of the warranty period when the hard drive failed. The hard drive just makes a clicking noise and after the logo screen appears it goes to a blue screen with a box that has the following message with in, "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed. Insert recovery Media and Hit any key.....Then Select 'Boot Manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media.
I have installed a brand-new Western Digital 1T Sata3 harddrive to replace the Toshia 750 GB original Drive. After turning the computer on and at the logo screen I press and hold F2, this takes me to the InsydeH20 Setup Utility Screen. I see under the "Information" menu that the installed harddrive model and serial number appear. I see in the "Boot" menu, Boot Mode: "UEFI" and Secure Boot: "Enabled".
Under the "Exit" menu, Exit Saving Changes is highlighted. When I press F10 a "setup Configuration" box appears asking to save configuration changes and exit now? "Yes" is highlighted to which I hit Enter and are returned to the "Default Boot Device.......page. I then hit ecs twice and are at a black screen with the message No bootable device -- Please Restart system_appearing in the upper left corner of the screen. I then push and hold the power button until the computer shuts off.
I have ordered from acer the "Acer E-recovery Media Disc Set", which is specific to the SNID of my computer. I have not attempted to format the new hard drive in any way. I assume the E-recovery Media Disc Set will handle that operation due to the multiple partitions required.
In view of the above situation, do I need to set up the computer in any way before I start to utilize the E-recovery Media Disc set. I assume the Media will be on CD's. The computer was running Win 8.0 which was updated to Win 8.1 and was running very well, very stable.
Acer V5, spilled coffee on keyboard. no problem at first, then lockup, and on restart get the No Boot Device or Boot Failed. Am using my old laptop now. Can I get a download, save it to thumb drive, and use it to restart/reboot my Acer?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI get the error in the Title after i tried to flash the latest BIOS update for the Z510. I can press ok and then get into the boot manager but i cant choose anything there. Also I cant boot from a Disk with e.g. XP on it.
I also tried the Inside BIOS crisis mode (fn+r) with the BIOS file on my USB drive but it doesn't work and tries to access the file on the USB drive but boots normally instead to the error again. (Couldn't try it with removed battery as I have to remove the whole back to remove the battery on the Z510).
I'm debating whether to get the Inspiron 1440 or the Studio XPS 1340.
Can anyone speak for the build quality of the new Inspiron 1440?
I like the magnesium alloy chassis and sturdy backlit keyboard on the SXPS 13, but it will cost me about $200 more when configured to similar specs.
This laptop will be my main PC when I leave for school: which means it needs to be light/small/durable enough to carry into classes everyday, with the power and adequate cooling to use as a desktop replacement as well.
I don't want any significant flexing and cracking sounds (which many consumer-grade black/silver plastic chassis laptops have) when picking it up around the edges.
These are the configurations I came up with in which the Inspiron costs about $200 less than the SXPS:
Inspiron 1440: P8600, 4GB DDR2-800MHz, 900p LED, 320GB 5400RPM, GMA4500MHD
SXPS 1340: P8600, 4GB DDR3-1067MHz, CCFL, 320GB 7200RPM, GF 9400M
My daughters 1440 works online for about 15min and then it loses connection to the router and wont show any available wireless networks,
I won't work until I reset the system and then it works for about 15 min again.I reinstalled the wireless driver and even tried to restore it to a few weeks before it started doing that but still does it.
Could the wireless card be bad? Has anyone had this problem before? Does anyone know which card is in there an ho to get to it?
I have a Inspiron 1440 and I am thinking of adding bluetooth to it,do I need a harness or does it plug in and witch module does it call for, install pictures.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just received a 1440 as a system exchange. Mine has the Intel graphics. Is it safe to assume that the Intel graphics are integrated into the MOBO? The 1440 is apparently available with an ATI 512MB card.
I'm guessing there is no chance I could pick one up and stick it in this thing?
It still shocks me that I have the ability to throw 8gigs in a laptop. This is a replacement for an E1405 and my I9300 is still my go-to laptop.
I have a inspiron 1440 that is my daughters and I would like to change the case top to pink.Has anyone changed that cover and does anyone know where to get a Dell cover?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just inherited a Dell Inspiron 1440 running Windows Home 7, which has been very lightly used, but has enough additional stuff installed, that "sluggish" is the only appropriate word for its performance. I want to do a Factory Reset. The directions written on page 58-59 of the paper Setup Guide are incorrect.
1. Turn on computer.
2. Press F8 to get Advanced Boot Options
3. Select Repair Your Computer
4. Go to Systems Recovery Options
5. Click "Dell Factory Image Restore" THIS OPTION DOES NOT EXIST.
Instead, I am shown "Startup Repair" "System Restore" "System Image Recovery" "Windows Memory Diagnostic" and "Command Prompt" NONE OF THESE is what I am looking for.Choosing "System Restore" gives me a bunch of restore points from the last 9 months only, and not the original factory settings.Choosing "System Image Recovery" is not appropriate either, as the previous owner did not create a system image backup.
My laptop, DELL Inspiron 1440 Model number (42L) will not let me log in. My hint is 'mtw dog' but I can't figure out the correct password and I can't find it anywhere.
