View 3 RepliesI have had my Dell computer for almost 1.5 years. Yesterday while working on my laptop, I got a message saying the battery was critically low and that the PC was going to shut off. After making sure it was plugged into an outlet, I tried to restart the PC. Upon doing so, I received a message saying the battery was not recognized, not compatible, and would not be charged by the system. Now every time I start my PC, I get the same message. It does continue to charge the battery. It is the original battery that I received from Dell.
I can press enter and get passed it but it is rather annoying. I am afraid at some point that it will stop working altogether. What can I do to fix this? Has my battery gone bad? I don't think that is the issue because it still works, even when I don't have it plugged in to an outlet. Do I need to modify something in the boot menu?
Started receiving the error message at startup
"warning The battery cannot be identified. This system will be unable to charge this battery press any key to continue"
I did search the Internet and this forum but have not find any workable solution. My latop came with BIOS version 2.1.0 A07, tried to refresh the BIOS with the same version, and higher versions all the way to version A15 but no luck.
The battery does hold charge and the message disappear if I remove the battery and bootup with the AC adapter alone.

So my power cord or battery is garfunkled and it doesn't hold a charge. I use my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1501) with the cable plugged in all the time. I'm perfectly happy with this and there is absolutely no way I'm paying any more for any charging equipment (battery or otherwise) when I can get a faster laptop for cheaper than the cost of the charging equipment. So I'm not going to spend any more money and I'm perfectly happy with how the laptop works.
I don't need a solution but when the laptop boots it stops at this error message (in the BIOS or DOS or w/e before the OS loads) until it gets some user input okaying it to continue booting.
I want to disable the message to allow the computer to boot into the OS when it is turned on. I either want the message to time out or not to appear at all. I looked in the BIOS (which is the simplest BIOS I've ever seen and has practically no options outside of boot protocol) and didn't see any options related to error messages or to act in any way.

Suddenly, I have begun to receive a message on Start Up from HP Battery Alert. The message tells me that the level of the battery is critically low and that I may have to replace it. There is a web address offered to find out more - www2.hp.com/techcenter/startup/ (that address led me to this forum)
The battery charge monitor in the far right of the status bar tells me that there is no charge in the battery so that I can't use it without the mains lead. It also tells me that it is not charging, even though the mains lead is connected.
I just received the following message on my XPS 1640..............................
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe battery and AC adaptor for my Inspiron 13 don't seems to be acting strangely...
When the computer is off, and not connected to any power source, sometimes the battery light flashes. This happens even if the AC adaptor isn't plugged into the computer.
When the computer is off and it is plugged in, the light doesn't flash.
The battery light is on when the computer is plugged in, charging, and powered up.
I'm having some battery life issues with my laptop, and i wanted to see if the performance of my battery is normal, or if something is wrong.
At first, my battery started draining really fast so i replaced the battery in July, and now im seeing the problems again.
Basically, I need my laptop for class, and i have microsoft word, wi-fi running, and a web browser during that time period. My brightness is set on about 4, and the battery option is on portable/laptop (note: i have tried max battery with same result)
i'm getting less than an hour of battery life..
i was wondering if there was anything i could possibly do to improve this, perhaps purchase a 9-cell battery, or if there might be something more wrong with my computer that i should get checked, i'm not sure if this is normal battery life, but i don't remember it dying that quickly before.
I bought this laptop about 2-3 years ago, so nothing is under warranty. A few months ago the end of my A/C adapter cord broke off. I put it back together, and it would work when plugged in, but I noticed my battery would not charge. If I would unplug the laptop it would immediately shut off. Not sure if my battery coincidentally died at the same time I broke the cord, or if that had anything to do with it. I was told to buy a new battery. Still didn't work. I just bought a new A/C adapter. Still doesn't work. I'm positive both the battery and A/C adapter are compatible with my 1501.
Here's the message I get.
"Warning: The Battery cannot be identified. This system will be unable to charge this battery."
I then press any key to continue, but like it says, it does not charge.
I have been reading forums on this issue for quite some time now, and have seen people mentioning updating the BIOS. I ended up trying that, but still nothing. Well, atleast I think I did. I just downloaded this and installed/restarted:
My Inspiron 15z was just repaired today (it got a new motherboard due to a different problem that is now fixed). But now, whenever I start up my laptop, I get an error message from Intel Rapid Start Technology Manager that says "Your system does not appear to have Intel Rapid Start Technology enabled." I have never gotten this error message before. It is only now after my motherboard has been replaced. I don't understand what Intel Rapid Start Technology is and if I should have it enabled, and if so how to enable it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working on a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop. At first the laptop displayed a message when first turned on "Warning: the battery cannot be identified This system will be unable to charge this battery.
Press any key to continue." I googled this warning and some recommended that the BIOS be upgraded. After the BIOS was upgraded the warning message did indeed go away.
But Windows XP still does not recognize this battery, and shows the laptop to be running on AC power even when the power adapter is not plugged in. Also, the charge light on the laptop does not light when the power adapter is plugged .....
Alright I am a long time user of Dell products, and have in the past had problems with them, but they have been easily fixable by either replacement parts or a quick look at a FAQ or messageboard for Info. My INSPIRON 1501 is not recognizing my battery. The battery is fine (checked it in my brothers computer), and I have checked other people's posts with the same problem and tried the fixes but nothing worked. I have tried to do the BIOS update (A16) that worked probperly but did not fix the problem.
While watching a movie I got a message telling me that my battery is not recognized. The battery is stuck at a 97% charge (or so the computer says) and the battery light is not light up (it flashes on sporadically but not consistant at all). The BIOS did fix the message at startup saying the battery isn't recognized but still if I remove the AC power cord or unplug the computer it powers right down and will not start-up unless plugged in.
On Start, I receive a message: Warning: The battery cannot be identified. The system will be unable to charge this battery. Press any key to continue.
When I continue, everything seems to be ok; the battery charges normally. The warning appears on every Start. This started recently possibly after I installed Norton 360 Premier security package.
Can I continue ignoring it or does it really have a message for me. The laptop is an Inspiron 1501 and is slightly under 2 years old.
I bought a new battery recently from Dell for my Inspiron 1501 laptop. The system does not recognise the battery. It is not charging.Charging indcator flashes amber 3 times then 1 time green. System working fine with AC adapter plugged in.Battery meter says no battery.Even key board and touch pad responding erratically.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new Dell Inspiron 11, 3000 series laptop. It has given me this message at least 3 times recently, "your battery is temporarily disabled. please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to the operational temperature." I ran the Dell Diagnostic and it didn't find anything. I also used the Dell Technical Support, but nothing came up there either.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using a Dell inspiron 1545 from about 3 years now and exactly after 2 years of my buy, the battery failed and it started showing me to replace the battery and always notified me about contacting dell for a new battery.
I didn't take this of much concern so i just ignored the message and kept on using my battery with my adapter plugged in. After 4-5 months of such usage, My battery completely failed and doesn't even offer me even a minute of backup, when i remove the power socket. Then i realized the importance of a new battery and then bought a new battery from Dell.
Its the same battery with the same specs and also the same family type. After i removed my defected battery, I replaced my new bought Dell battery and realized that my battery is working fine. its charging well but at some time, it says "Plugged in, But not charging" Which is rare for any new battery, which is bought brand new.
This is how it looks now after i remove the AC adapter plug and when i depend on the battery backup. it is providing me a backup, but I see a yellow exclamatory mark beside it. Which I think should not be present. it also says "Low battery" when there's already 99% of battery left!
I've also followed some online steps
1) updated by BIOS to the latest
2) Followed some other steps like uninstalling the battery ACI in the device manager and etc...
I'm using a PA-12 family adapter, which is also a replaced one.
My Inspiron 5521 warranty has expired a month back and now suddenly my laptop shows a message saying your battery has encountered a permanent damage during startup...The battery bar shows the mesage plugged in , not charging message and when i disconnect the ac power adapter my laptop shuts down...I tried updating my BIOS to A12 but it did not work...What is the problem here..Do Dell companies manufacture products which last only upto the warranty period or what??
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was working on my laptop without the mains power and it completely went dead and refused to restart.
If I take the battery out and use on mains only the pc is fine.
Does this mean the battery is causing the start up fault and needs replacing?
My laptop is unable to start up fully. I press the start up power on button and the computer loads the Dell Intel screen and sometimes makes it to the microsoft start up screen. I end up recieving a warning of the battery cannot be identified and this system will be unable to charge this battery. strike F1 to continue, F2 to run the setup utility, Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics.
I have had the laptop and the same battery for almost 5 years. the batery life has been degrading over the last couple years and was to the point of only having 20 minutes of life. I left my laptop in the car for a couple days when it was very cold. I brought the laptop in to back it up onto my external hard drive and notced in the lower right hand corner that the laptop was charging yet their was a red X displaying near the battery. The latop shuts down if i disconnect the power supply.
I own a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series i7537T-5005sLV.A short while ago I tried to power on my laptop but it didn't come on. I thought that the battery drained and I didn't notice however when I plugged in the power cord no lights came on. I decided to open up the laptop and remove the battery and put back the battery and try to power on the laptop. It came on after doing that and I saw lights again.
I also notice that after reseating the battery, the latency between pressing the power button and the laptop actually coming on is shorter. It is almost instantaneous. Before there was about a 1.5 seconds delay. (THIS COULD BE MY IMAGINATION THOUGH)
I also noticed that I got little "pinches" or small shocks when my skin comes in contact with the edge of the laptop, especially at the end of the palm rest area. The shocking sensation could be cause the hair on my hands as my skin brush along the edges of the laptop as I type. I say this because I've never experienced a shock touching anywhere else on the laptop and I never felt a shock while using the tips of my fingers to touch the edges.
One last thing I feel I should mention. Around the SD card slot area there is a small dent protruding outwards; barely noticeable. It was a brand new laptop and the seal on the box wasn't broken or tampered with so I am assuming that this was a manufacture's defect. One I was willing to overlook since the dent wasn't that bad and added some character to the laptop. However I am beginning to worry that the unit might be damaged and that is why I had the power issue. The laptop is about two weeks old. I had to replace the first one because the display had horizontal waves running from top to bottom. Even in the BIOS. They were especially visible against gray backgrounds.
I have a old hp zv5000 and it seems to randomly shut down, the problem is very peculiar. The battery on the hp cant hold charge for more than 10 minutes but the problem lies in the charger/laptop itself. The charger only seems to be able to charge the battery and the system only seems to runs on battery power, the battery runs out and the system shuts down (without any notice). When the battery is taken out of the system, it fails to start up.
i am guessing somewhere in the mobo :S since the laptop itself cant turn on external power when the battery is disconnected and only seem to run off battery power.
I'm running i7 inspiron with windows 7 64 bit.
When i start computer on battery and then connect external power it freezes.
I can't click anything.
I have all the drivers installed.
The corner of the lid is pulling apart! I don't know when it started, but now it is getting really bad. I'm in college, and I can't get to (nor afford) a computer-fixer-guy. Is there something I can do to fix this?
1. Closed laptop.
2. Halfway opened/closed.
3. Fully opened.
Been trying to fix my 2 year Dell Inspiron 1501 old laptop.
It boots up ok in to Windows XP, will run for a couple of minutes ie. find a wireless network, start up IE and then it will freeze. The weird thing is that the mouse cursor still moves.
CTRL + ALT + DEL has no affect ......
i recently purchased a refurbished inspiron 1501 from the dell outlet. im just wondering if i can use the dell OS CD that came with my inspiron 9300 to downgrade from vista to xp.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop, last week when switching on the laptop I was presented with an error saying "Disk Read Error", the laptop would not boot up at all not even in safe mode.
I ran Dell diagnostics and it gave me a error code of 0146 which is harddrive related. I then attempted to repair the windows installation using chkdsk /p and /r but this seems to have made things worse! When booting up, all i can see is a blank screen
