Dell :: Inspiron 1545 Fails To Boot Up
Jul 23, 2012
I closed Down the lid to head to my room and then came back about five minutes later, opened it up, and pressed the power button. A flash of a blue screen appears but I can't read what it says on it and then once it tries to load it reverts to a black screen that says "Windows has failed to start up . A recent hardware or software change might be the cause." Then I can either launch Startup Repair or Start Windows Normally.
I have tried both options, ran a hardware diagnostic test twice, tried to restore to a previous date, and tried to boot up in safe mode but each option fails and it just goes back to this black screen with the two options.
The only option I haven't tried is reverting to factory settings but that is because I would like to save my files first.

I have an Inspiron 15R 5521 that is causing me no end of headache. When I try to boot it, it starts to boot (audibly you can hear the internal systems starting to go) but the screen stays black and after about 5 seconds, it starts beeping. It beeps continuously approximately once every 2-2.5 seconds, and I have counted up to about 30 beeps (it didn't stop beeping, it was just doing my head in).
It started about six months ago, doing it once when I tried to boot it, but pulling the battery fixed it. However, it got progressively worse until one night it simply wouldn't boot at all. A short-term fix was to mash F4 or F9 once the power button was pressed, but now even that doesn't work. I think it might be something in the boot sequence that causes it to fail...

My Dell Inspirion 1721 fails to start the Windows boot.
The F8 and CTRL F11 do not work at all. I did the hours long total diagnostic that is built in and everthing passed - so must be software.
How do I recover? Can I just install a new version of Windows (to replace Vista) and save the existing files and software on the laptop?

My husband came home from work saying his laptop doesn't work, being the naturally skeptical wife, I tried to boot it up, thinking I'll f10 (Well, f12 - turns out) the problem away. If that worked, we wouldn't be here. Anyway. 9_9
The laptop turns on without a problem, and presents me with the Dell loading screen. The loading bar is present, but nothing is actually 'loading'. There are two options in the lower right hand corner, "F2 - Setup" and "F12 Boot Options". If I turn the laptop on and press one of these buttons really quick (within a second), then that option will be highlighted, but nothing more occurs. I've tried this for both F2 and F12.
I've tried:
-Boot Options - fails to load the options screen
-Setup - fails to load the setup screen
-Turning the power off and holding the button down.
-PSA ... Pre-startup Analytics...? Didn't work. Spent 5 minutes tapping F12 once a second.
-All of the above with and without the AC adapter in.
-Taking the battery out (Oi, that was fun.) and plugging it back in.
None of these yielded different results.

I started it up and it took 20 minutes to boot Windows. I shut it down and it never booted Windows again. I have run diagnostics and they have either passed or they stop right in the middle and I am back to a blank, black screen.Â

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 and cannot get it to boot up windows 7. Â I foolishly loaded a back up from my old sony without realising it would add sony vaio care and now the computer boots to vaio with an error message of error 12.
I have tried to restore using last good configuration but it still fails. Â

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 running Windows 7. I try to turn on my computer, it goes through the Dell logo screen and comes up to a black screen with a blinking white cursor in the upper left corner and will not go any further. I have pushed F2 and F12 during the Dell logo screen, but no way. I have run the diagnostics for my computer, but it reports no errors, everything passes. I have also tried hitting the F8 and Ctrl+F11 keys during the Dell logo screen, but neither of these do anything, I have the OS disc for reinstallation, but because of the computer not going past the black screen with the white blinking cursor in the upper left corner, I cannot reinstall Windows because it will not restart correctly. What do I do?

Could not boot into recovery mode, launch the command prompt and run the following, bcdedit /enum all? I have a friends Dell 1545 and I think the Boot Manager/Loader is screwed up b/c it is not booting into recovery. I can boot to the Windows 7 OS, but we need to do a factory restore because of a nasty virus she has.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 that doesn't boot successfully. It gets to the screen indicating "Starting WIndows" and then just sits there. I tried safe booting but when it should be displaying windows files that are loading, the screen just stays blank. I tried selecting "Repair" boot but the system just blinks and returns to the window that asks me to select Repair or Normal Boot. (If I select Normal Boot, it gets to "Starting Windows" and that's it.
I checked out the hard drive externally and it appears the hardware is functioning normally. I successfully booted with Hiren's Boot CD. I would like to attempt a RECOVERY but can't get beyond the Repair screen.
Since Dell doesn't provide an OS disk with the computer that would allow me to reinstall Windows 7...

My uncle has a Dell Inspiron 1545 with 3Gb RAM, 160 Gb HD and Windows Vista Home Premium. On boot up there is an error message stating that a back up should be performed immediately as the hard drive has a serious problem.
The good news is that I managed to make a clone of the 160 Gb HD to a 1000 Gb HD (Western Digital Blue) using Paragon software before the original drive failed. The bad news is that the cloning process stopped at 42%, but this 42% included the recovery partition and another part of the HD called Dell Utility.
I installed the cloned WD drive and pressed F8 on boot up, but the advanced boot menu did not appear. Instead I get the error message 'no bootable devices'.
I ran the diagnostics program using F5. All the tests were completed and 'passed'. The BIOS recognizes the new drive as 1000 Gb.
Question: how do I boot the laptop? My uncle does not have any recovery media.

My xps fails to power on, here's a quick history of the laptop, couple of months ago i decided to try fix my dc jack issue, it would only charge holding cable a certain way, replaced the jack but my soldering wasnt good enough so bought a replacement MB and installed.
this lasted around 2 weeks, laptop shut down after battery had ran down even though connected to ac, looked at transformer on lead and noticed power light was not on, bought replacement charger and connected immediatley light on lead started flashing indicating a short on the mb (i think), tried 2 different chargers same result
bought another mb that was fully tested before shipping, installed, when connecting ac the battery flashes orange 3 times then green and continues this cycle, from what i read think this is only to say the battery is bad.
however the laptop doesnt power up tried it with without battery and did the stat drain technique of holding power button for 60 secs etc.
Basically when switching on the power on light comes on for maybe 3-5 secs and goes off again without any fans etc even begining to boot, if i hold the fn key and power it lights the 3 leds on the left, 9, numlock and i forget the symbol on the other led...
could it be the cpu? though it sounds as if the laptiop isnt even getting to stage of checking for all hardware?

I got this idela pad U410 about a year ago and it was functioning nornally. A few months ago it started to boot up very slowly when power cycles. A hibernate was quick. Now it never comes up and keeps waiting at the Lenovo screen, no windows. I have seen posts that say it is a manufacturing defect. This one is out of warranty, so what is the solution. Do we have a solution at all? Why does Lenovo market such a bad product. BTW, the back cover is so flimsy that it gave up and had to replace it. Overall a case of bad engineering i guess.

I've had my Y510p (8GB RAM, DVD Ultrabay option) for a bit more than four months now and it's been working perfectly for most of the time- however, two days ago, while playing a game the computer or the game itself froze. After trying to bring the Task Manager up/kill the game, I decided to restart it- I turned it off, but once it came back on, it had decided to start "Preparing Automatic Repair". After several times unsuccessfully "repairing" (after which again "preparing") it (it had given me an error, something with Srttrail.txt file), I decided to look up and search the Internet for people with a similar/the same problem- none of the methods worked. So, I decided it could've been from software I've installed or similar- I didn't have things THAT important (I haven't made any back-ups, nor a recovery USB), so I made an initial state lenovo recovery  using the Novo button.
After several more fixing methods (unsuccessfull again, people suggested getting into the command promt, using the chkdsk command, but it was in a drive called x:, couldn't find other drives/changing from UEFI to Legacy Support in BIOS settings, I changed them, then changed them back to defaults) it started giving me the "IPv4/IPv6 Network 0 (MAC Adress) boot failed" errors and several tries more, now it constantly gives me the "Windows boot Manager boot failed" error, followed by the IPv4/IPv6 ones. after which it takes me to a blank bright-blue screen with my only cursor visible (similar to what it does i I tell it to go to Lenovo recovery menu now). Also, after trying to turn it on (in the current/last state) it gave me the 0xc000000f error. So, what's happening (the HDD is recognized in the BIOS, the laptop itslef hasn't been moved more then four or five time and used properly)? I have no instalation/repair disc with the laptop.

I have a dell 5010 and it went black screen as I was using it. I powered it down by holding the power button and then tried to rebot. The laptop power led goes on, the hard drive led flickers once and the fan goes on but slow. The screen stays black and the laptop does not booth. It then sometimes bleeps times over and over. Is it dead? How can I fix this or at least recover the data in the hard drive? Â

I'm setting up a my new Dell Windows 8 laptop. Now, I'm trying to create a set of recovery disks in case anything goes wrong, I'm using Dells own software. Unfortunately there seems to be an issue with, in other words its pish, and it fails after creating the first disk when it needs to create four. Every time I put a second DVD in it just ejects with no error message.it seems that a lot of people around here are having the exact same issue. It wouldn't be such a problem if you could boot into the recovery partition by hitting f8 during boot, the only way you can access it,though, is by holding down shift in windows 8 and pressing restart which is absolutely no use if windows won't boot!! I've got a hold of Acronis True Image 2013.
My question is can I make recovery media by creating a boot disk and then creating and image of the PBR partition, which I'm sure holds the recovery data? I can't back up the whole system as there is now 120Gb in data on it. I don't wan to back up the whole system, I just want to be able to restore it to factory default,in case anything ever goes on it, by using DVD media.

This morning, my Inspiron 3721 (18 months old) failed to turn on. Â Worked fine last night.
Symptoms: on pressing power button, only power light illuminates, but no other noises, no fans, no screen response.
Have removed battery, removed power lead, held down power button for 50 seconds. Â Reconnected battery & power lead, but no change to above behaviour.
Tried a different power lead but no change to above.

We have a Dell Inspiron 1525. It has been having overheating problems for a while, so tonight I opened it up, removed the heatsink, cleaned out the clogged up fan and cleaned/replaced the thermal paste on the CPU. While taking off the heatsink, the thermal pad that was on the GPU tore. I didn't have another pad handy, so I used (non-conductive) thermal paste on that as well. Also, while I had the heatsink out, I inspected the CPU and found that one of the corner pins was actually bent outward (yes, it came from the factory that way!), so I (very carefully) straightened it before reseating the CPU.
Now, when I try to start the computer the screen stays completely blank (no Dell logo, no command lines, nothing), the HD and disc drives spin, and after a few seconds the entire system dies...
I have tried some of the solutions (unplug power, hold pwr button 30 sec, plug in power, and boot; remove/swap the memory) but so far nothing has worked.
What could the problem be? Could switching from a thermal pad to thermal paste on the GPU cause this? Or straightening the bent CPU pin? Could it have been intentionally bent to work properly? I've certainly never heard of such a thing...

I have a laptop in our lab that was full of a bunch of software that had been installed over the last year or so and I was trying to bring it back to how it was shipped from the factory. After booting with the F8 option then through Advanced Options I selected to restore the laptop to the factory image since there was no data that I needed from the unit. After the laptop restoration was finished I now boot to the BSOD and it perpetually asks for a startup repair which does not work. I made this unit a door stopper needless to say since there are no disks included in the purchase. Is there any way to get this laptop back to factory?

I ordered two basic Inspiron 1545's on March 16th. $479 each on the one day special.
Dell says it will arive on April 6th. Does Dell usually take this long to deliver?
Both have Dual Core Pentiums. Can they be upgraded to Core 2 Duo later? Are the CPU's soldered on the main board?
Ram is limited to four gigabytes, even though the laptop uses a 64-bit CPU. Is this something that might be fixed in a future BIOS upgrade?
Is there any way to upgrade the onboard graphics? I found an ExpressCard chasis that has PCI express slots, but it costs over $700. I could build a PC for less than that. Do I have any other options?

I just looked at the pictures and specs of the new Inspiron 1525 replacement, 1545, and I couldn't believe what I have read. No HDMI port, no firewire port, only 3 USB ports, no modem, no eSATA. Also, it is 15.6" 16:9 screen, which is fine, if they offer higher than 1366x768. It is more like the 13" Inspiron than the old 1525 to me. I think Dell is going to re-align Inspiron as a cheap line like the HP Presario line. Dell Studio will compete with HP Pavilion.

My question is if the early 1545's came with LED's or CCFL's? I see all the 1545's now come with only LED screens.
I ask because on the 'Dell Outlet' it doesn't state if it's a LED screen or not. It just says: "15.6 WXGA Laptop Screen Display with TrueLife"

I am looking to buy a new 15" laptop. A top of the range inspiron 1545 costs £629 and the top XPS M1530 costs £849.
However, looking at the spec - the Inspiron seems to have:
> A better processor (Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.40Ghz, 3MB, 1066MHz) vs Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T8300 (2.40 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 3 MB L2 cache))
> Faster memory (4096MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048] Vs 4096MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048])

Battery will not charge so it is currently attached to power source at all times with the battery in the laptop.

I got an old laptop (dell inspiron 1545). I bought it charger and installed Windows 7. then I discovered that he had a strange problem. As if the keyboard is not calibrated. I press a button and he thinks it's another key ... I thought it might be a hardware problem but when I plugged in a USB keyboard had the same problem and even when I uploaded the "virtual keyboard " on screen the problem continued ... I went to the site of DELL and the diagnosis tool indicated the computer is fine (their detection software glitch found in DVD-ROM but it really has nothing to do with it) I still tried to delete the drivers of the keyboard from the computer and reinstall but the problem remains you might know calibration software keyboard?
