Dell Inspiron 1546... Has the old no video and FN - F5 at boot 6 or 7 beeps...
Is it video or motherboard?
Computer boots no video then shuts off by it's self in about 1 min.
This was my backup laptop and my main one was a HP with a 17 inch screen that the GPU went out due to a shim was needed between the GPU and Heat Sink, now I wonder if this is the same trouble with my Dell!
My dell laptop wont boot. When i hit the power button, i can hear the fan whirr, and some of the lights come on, but nothing happens on the screen ( not even the back light) and after about 40 seconds, it beeps twice, then nothing else happens. i tried plugging it into another monitor, but still nothing showed up on screen. i removed the hard drive and tried, but got the same result. it wasn't dropped or anything... it simply didint work one day. Its not my pain pc, so its not a big deal, but for the time being i have no mobile computer.
Ive done some googling and have tried swapping out each ram stick, and removing AC and battery power and holding down the power button to empty the capacitors. Ive tried to hold f2, f8, f12, and delete upon boot, none of these are having an effect. another thing worth noting is upon turning it off, i hear a high pitches ring coming from the inside that makes short pauses intermittently. it only does this when the AC is plugged in.
I installed some windows updates to my computer. The next time I turned on my computer it didn't act normal at all. It went to a start-up repair screen which scanned for a long time only to tell me "start-up repair cannot fix this computer" so I shut down and left my computer. I called Dell's support line and talked with technical assistance, the guy had me run some tests and in the end told me that there was nothing wrong with the hard drive and that it was my systems software that was the problem. didn't wanna restore at that point because wanted to save my pictures.
I ended up taking the hard drive out, transferring pictures onto my brothers computer and then I did a full system restore ( by tapping f8, choosing repair my PC, then choosing "Dell data safe restore and emergency backup" in the system recovery options screen. ) This actually worked and I restored my computer, however after installing updates again (quite a few too, when I shut down my computer it said installing update 1 of 72?! )
My computer went back to the start up repair screen and did the same thing as before. restored my computer one more time, and now again after updates were installed my computer will not work correctly. I do have the windows product key under the battery but would like to know how I can fix this problem. Will have to reinstall my windows software?
my Dell M5030 decided this morning not to boot, but instead just beeps 7 times. The laptop is out of warranty, but looking at previous posts this is a known fault.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy wife was surfing the net and watching TV last night when her Inspiron M5030 got the blue screen of death. There have been no other errors or performance issues until now. When she tried to reboot, the laptop just gave 7 loud beeps over and over. Disconnected the power cord, removed battery, held start button down for 30 secs, tried to reboot, but got the same result.

After browsing this forum I've found a lot of people have had the 7 beeps on start up issue with the M5030.
I have a DELL Inspiron M5030 laptop.
The computer won't boot up. I receive 7 beeps and the screen remains blank.
My Inspiron 15 3521 just started with the boot problems and beeping. It is not consistent in when it will boot up. If it doesn't boot up, which is most of the time, it will beep. One single beep about every 2 seconds with a black screen, until I power it off. I have run hardware diagnostics and it passed. I have refreshed my pc, didn't work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 5521 that is about a year and a half old. In the last two weeks, it's begun to make a beeping noise and will not boot up. As far as I can tell, there's no pattern or end to the beeps -- it's just one beep continuously. The longest I've let it beep before I couldn't stand it anymore and popped the battery out was 25 beeps. There are about two and a half seconds in between each beep. Up until very recently, taking the battery out and putting it back in seemed to solve the problem, but that no longer seems to work.
I've researched beep codes but can't seem to find one matching that description.
Running Windows 7. The BIOS version and date is Dell Inc. A05, 1/3/2013, SMBIOS Version 207.
My laptop will not boot up, just get the 7 beeps and a black screen. I have done research on this issue and it seems to be an ongoing problem with this laptop. If this is the case, this should be taken care of by Dell.

After turning it on, the screen remains blank and I get 3 beeps every 5-10 seconds.
Unfortunately the laptop is a month out of warranty.
I fitted a new LCD panel to an Inspiron 3520. Upon boot, it showed the Dell logo, then went all white and then displayed a grid made up of RGB pixels across the screen. I checked the panel was connected properly and the tried to reboot but now the screen doesn't power up at all. The laptop also now plays 4 beeps while trying to boot. I've tried connecting an external monitor, but it also does not display anything an plays the 4 beeps.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Inspiron M501R will no longer boot up - its shows a black screen and repeatedly beeps 7 times. I understand this means the mother board has failed. The service tag is <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> - its waranty has recently expired.
Interestingly, if you google "Inspiron M501R" google suggests "Inspiron M501R 7 beeps". So I'm guessing this laptop has been designed to fail soon after the waranty expires.
I have written a letter to BBC Watchdog asking how long a laptop can be "expected" to last and whether this would be covered by the UK Sale of Goods Act.

I have a Dell Vostro 3550 that I booted up this morning and received 8 beeps on startup with no video being displayed. After reading the forums here is what I have done and the reults:
Boot up with External Monitor
Can log in and run computer, laptop still beeps 8 times for several times then stops beeping
Drain residual power from the laptop
Restart computer and still beeps 8 times without vidoe
Run LCD BIST
Nothing displayed.
Run F12 Diagnostics
Error Code: 2000-0415
Validation: 58622
I am assuming I have a faulty LCD Screen and/or cable but want to be sure of this before spending the money as this laptop is no longer under warranty.
Was working fine. When I turn the machine on it freezes on the dell splash screen about 60% threw. When the hard drive is out the computer boot fine. (obviously no OS though). The hard drive is also making a beeping noise. Dell said they would send me a new hard drive, but I want to know what caused this as of yesterday when I received it I did a diagnostics and the hard drive was in perfect condition. These things happened today could they have caused it?
1) Laptop did not go to sleep in my backpack and was totally on for about 15min. (Overheat?)
2) Windows froze today and I had to hold down the power button to turn it off.
3) I had used another Dell power supply to power my machine as I did not have the regular cord, but it worked while attached and this problem did not happen till around 30-40min later after it had been unplugged.
I have recently purchased Dell Studio 1558 second hand. On pressing the power button the laptop is beeping continuously for 6 times stops and starts beeping continuously again for 6 times and stops beeping...screen blank....From the dell studio 1558 manual available online I think it is a Video Card Failure. Is this a video card failure?
View 6 Replies View Related2 beeps I thought was a memory issue but the screen doesn't say anything about a memory problem. there are 3 options 1 boot to windows 2 boot options and the 3 I cant remember. option 2 and 3 may be out of order. I have looked in bios for memory test to turn it off but I don't see it. pressing F1 (first option) boots normally and system runs great as usual. 1 other thing, the battery light flashes red 4 times and then holds white for a second then cycles back to the flashing red. this all started at the same time. I tried to do a bios update but im already running the latest version so I get the window that says it wont be completed. the battery does seem to last a very long time as it usualy does, its a 9 cell battery.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavillion dv6040 laptop, 3 years old. Today, after 3 years of nearly flawless operation, it will not start. It gives 1 long and 2 short beeps, and then nothing. The lights turn on, the fans run, but the screen remains off (black with the backlight off).
I believe it is a video problem (looked up the beeps online). The laptop has an Nvidia GeForce 7200 Graphics card.
Or does anyone know if it's possible to replace the video card in such a laptop?
Latitude D505 keyboard causing beeps on boot.Beeps do not correspond to any of the beep codes (they are approximately 8 beeps long).Letter g is continuously activated (tested using word and letter is continuously displayed on page and never stops)
PST revealed no problems, also no virus on system from scanning.Verified that it is either the keyboard or the port on the mother board, as removal of keyboard prevents the beeps and activation of letter g.External keyboard working well with no problems. how to check whether the problem is the keyboard or the motherboard's port, as I want to purchase a replacement. Would a latitude D820 keyboard have the same pin arrangements to test the mother board's port?
I have a HP Pavilion dv6-1107X Entertainment Series notebook. When I turn it on I get an inconsisent series of very loud short beeps nearly always in 3 groups. First group can be 4 to 6 beeps. Second group can be 1 or 2. Third group just goes on and on until the Windows Boot Manager pops up. Once I select the Vista operating system everything appears to start working as normal.
Here is what I have done:
1. Replaced motherboard and CPU
2. Checked and tested hard drive by diagnostic and in another machine - okay
3. Have used a known good hard drive in this machine - same symptoms, no change.
4. Checked and tested RAM stick in both slots, by diagnostic test and on another machine - okay
5. Did a Factory Default recovery - Operating System (OS) behaved erratically.
6. Did a Clean Install using another machine - OS works but same symptoms as above with beeps and Windows Boot Manager.
7. Installed all required drivers as required in Device Manager (after a LOT of problems trying to find the HP driver download support - I had to search for HP Compaq Pavilion dv6-1107AX to find a site that linked to the driver downloads).
8. Have run AVG anti virus, and 3 x anti spyware (Malwarebytes, Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware). Nil bugs founds.
9. Reset BIOS to defaults.
Am also having problems from time to time access BIOS. It takes several attempts but can be gained by pressing F10 immediately after the first screen with ESC option on it. Also have problems access Safe Mode using F8 but perseverance is required and it will work eventually.

I've been researching why this laptop died so young and found this thread! I am a long time buyer of Dells and I am so upset that this laptop is barely 2 years old and already having such detrimental issues!!!

I have problem with my laptop dell 3420. there are no display when I turn it on, after maybe 30 second any beep code 4 times.
I was reseat the memory, change with another memory but nothing different.
I have an Inspiron 1370 on windows 7. We have been through a lot but today just beeps & off.
When I put slight pressure on top left hand side by the on/off switch it comes back to life so I suspect there is a problem with the hinges/screen or connection??
I have ran a full diagnostic & lid diagnostic both passed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got my replacement insiprion and it is a refurbished model. a couple of days ago Today I was typing and I noticed beeps coming from the right side of the machine. I opened the back cover and the sound appears to be coming from the Hard Drive. Dell's quality has really gone down hill. They send me one replacement and that one was riddled with issues... I demand another replacement and this one came and I thought "wow everything works" and this issue pops up.. I also have a dell xps 13 with the coil whine.. Dell really is horrible now. How do they get away with giving customers this stuff? Really.. who is the head of QC needs to be fired.I have bought many dell computers over the years and I have to say the decline in quality is very apparent... I will NOT be buying another dell.. and for the record I have bought a couple of desktops, a couple of laptops... I will no longer give them another cent besides extending the warranty on this machine because I'll need it after the quality of their products..
