When I depress the left button on the touchpad it "single clicks". When I release pressure from that button there is another "single click". I have looked at the Mouse settings and I do not see an option for this.
View 9 RepliesI just opened my new Inspiron 15 (5545, Mid-2014), and the touchpad occasionally double clicks. When I press the lower left corner, I sometimes get a single click (which is what I'm expecting), but I also sometimes get a double click. If I simply tap the touchpad once, I can get a single click, but I should be able to use the left-click button.
I've checked the Dell Touchpad settings, and I verified that the left button is set to "Click" and not "Double click". I ran the Dell Touchpad test in My Dell, but all it was checking for was whether or not the buttons and touch surface were responsive. It didn't seem to indicate whether the press was a double click or a single click.
I have a Dell Inspiron Model# N5040.
I have a problem with double clicking. (assume that all clicking is the left click) It is most apparent on the internet, when I hit the back button once, I go back two pages. Its annoying, but now i'm having trouble highlighting, and other important tasks. I do know about keyboard alternatives, but the mouse is just more convenient.
This problem started soon after my laptop survived having orange juice spilled onto it.
I have done my own research, and most forums state a software problem, but I am sure that I have a mechanical problem. I noticed that there is an "upstroke" and a "downstroke" to my click. When I click, that is the downstroke, the mouse performs as it's supposed to; but when I lift my finger, there is a second click that I did not intend, the upstroke. I've tested this on button clicking games on my laptop, and on other computers.
When I left click on my Dell Inspiron 5748 it will intermittently act as though I right clicked (and bring up the menu)...

The laptop is out of warranty so I'm looking for a way to fix this myself. I've tried searching for this part but with no success,
and I can't find any pictures of this part to tell whether I can use some other substitute.
Using an XPS15. My left touchpad button has some problems. It seems to only work if it's pressed 2-3 times, or if you push it down hard...
Could this be related to any settings / firmware? - I think it's more likely that's it's probably failing and needs to be replaced?

How do I go about getting a new touchpad from Dell on an in-warranty laptop? My left-click button incessantly sticks. It is not a software issue, and I am well within my warranty. I have already done the software trouble-shooting. It is a hardware issue and I'm relatively certain I need a new touchpad.

latest driver updated and also driver uninstall and re-install OS format and reinstall but problem still there.
Laptop 3 years old and touchpad slowly stopped responding one night.
Downloaded new driver (ALPS Touchpad v7.1007.115.102. A05) no less than 3 times and had a partial success. Now right half of touchpad is ok but left half can only respond to up/down finger movements.
Run Dell diagnostics and all hardware is ok.
Run a full antiVirus scan and ok. Laptop says new driver is ok and running ok.
Touchpad does not work in BIOS and done a full diagnostic check and said the touchpad is fine!
Use of mouse is ok so not the end of the world!
Back to factory settings?
I have a brand new Edge E531 that I have upgraded to Win 8.1. I am trying desperately to learn to use the TouchPad, and by tweaking the various settings I am able to get it to work ok.
Except for one thing: sometimes, it seems that the TouchPad will automatically perform the default action in a dialog box or click a button automatically.
I have gone through all the settings and see nothing related to this.
Is this known behavior? Can it be prevented?, I know I can disable the TouchPad and only use TrackPoint, but since Lenovo no longer has separate right and left mouse buttons, I find it hard to use.
i can use the touch pad to move around but edge swipes don't work so i cant change from app to app and i cannot function zooming using the touch pad or scrolling either ?

Touchpad works ok but suddenly it freezes and stops working event the right - left click buttons. or sometimes a gentle finger on touchpad will randomly open and close the applications. The only solution to this is i restart my machine. This occurs frequently causing me to restart my machine atleast 20 times a day.
My wife got this HP G60-120us notebook computer. It's about two years old now. I'm planning on getting her a new laptop so I can get this one. The only thing that I really do not like about this laptop is the freakin mouse button. It's so loud and clicks so loud as well. What I'm using now is my old Dell laptop and I love the mouse button so quiet and smooth unlike the HP. Is there anyway to make this sound quiet? Like open it up and spray some WD-40? J/K, is all HP's like this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI wish to disable the touch pad on my Inspiron 1545 with Windows 8.. I have a Logitech wireless mouse. Currently both the mouse and the touch pad operate the curser. I want to only use the mouse. In Windows 7 the default was mouse only as soon as the wireless interface was installed. This is not the case with Windows 8.
I've been told to go to the Device driver and select the touch pad under Mouse and other pointers. The touch pad is not listed. I've tried disabling the PC Mouse compatible but the disable button is inactive.
The left mouse button on my m1530 has taken a battering. It has gone all lop-sided, crunches every time I press it, and now doesn't work at all unless I press down on it very very hard with two fingers.
I work fast, so this is an incredibly frustrating thing to happen, as everything now takes ten times longer to do.
Yesterday while I was working on a spreadsheet, the left button of my trackpad on my Dell XPS 15z just mysteriously stopped working. I assumed that maybe my system was slowing down, as I tend to multitask and often will have a LOT going on at once. So I restarted, since it had been about a three days since my system was restarted. Anyway, it did no good. Still, the left button wasn't working.
So, I then pressed it SUPER hard and it started working. Today, I noticed that it was messing up again. However now, depressing the key good and hard doesn't seem to magically fix the situation. Moreover, it doesn't work at all now instead of intermittent workability.
There wasn't any sort of update or anything... I'm really confused. Right button has no issues, but clearly I need both. Not sure what I should do.
I have a dell Studio 1558 laptop. I'm extremely careful not to have liquids anywhere near my keyboard. However I was drinking tea and felt I was far enough back that liquids should not even reach the laptop. I was probably about a foot back. Well one of my cats nudged my arm and hit it with enough force that a few drops hit the touch pad. I cleaned it up. This morning I turn my laptop on and now my left touch pad button does not work. I figured that I probably needed to clean it. So I pried the button off gently. And used a little rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and cleaned it off. When I pried it up it didn't look really dirty at all. There was no residue on the inside that I could see. I put the button back on, and it still doesn't work. So now I'm wondering if enough got inside to actually cause damage or if it's just coincidental that the button stopped working at the same time? I used it all the time for copying stuff and scrolling. I can use all the other buttons and scroll without using it.
Should the cleaning underneath have cured it if it was the liquid? If the liquid got past the underneath of the key itself then it should have affected the whole key pad not just one key, right?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new ProBook 430 G2 (SKU # G6W35EA#ABB) with Windows 8.1, fully updated. I find that every 10-15 minutes, the left button on the trackpad becomes unresponsive. The trackpad still moves the mouse pointer and the right button continues to work, but the left button does not react. This lasts for several minutes, perhaps 3-4. Then the left button resumes working as if nothing had happened. Since the button resumes working, I suspect it is more likely to be a software issue with the driver or Windows 8.1.
I have Synaptics TouchPad driver version 18.1.8.1, the current version of the driver.
I have Windows 8.1 version 6.3.9600.

My computer does not have button to left button of the mouse, so I use 2 fingers to get use the funtions of the letf button. However, this is not working anymore.

View 5 Replies View Relatedon an L530, when i click and hold the left mouse button on the trackpoint while performing a "sweep" operation -- ie dragging out a rectangular area on the display -- the button doesn't stay held; it prematurely unclicks / releases before i lift my finger off the button.
i had this problem with the original keyboard. i called support, they quickly shipped a replacement keyboard, and almost as quickly the problem reoccurred.
this is annoying, because i frequently perform mouse sweeps (almost exclusively in conjunction with "snipping tool" on win7). invariably, i need to retry the sweep 2,3,4,5,6.... times before i'm successful at getting what i want. and i'm pressing down on the button with significantly more force than should be required.
this isn't a problem that develops over time; it's there from the get-go.
i've phoned in to support again, and they're shipping me a 3rd keyboard. sounds like a design flaw, since the same problem's shown up on 2 keyboards. (progress has been made, however; on the original keyboard, F10 wasn't working reliably either; on the now-in-use 2nd keyboard, F10 works fine.) hope i'm wrong about the chronic failure, and 3rd time's a charm...
I just got my laptop and having trouble with the keyboard, the top rows are typing double digits, my number keys are having letters in front of them and or symbols appearing in other areas of my page.after two days already tired of backspacing to correct or keep starting over and over again.

I am having a problem with the mouse, both the touchpad, and when I plug an external mouse in (although the problem seems to occur with somewhat less frequency when I am using the external mouse). The computer is having trouble recognizing mouse clicks. Sometimes it recognizes them properly, sometimes it responds to left clicks as if they were right clicks, and sometimes it does not respond to them at all. The problem seems to be worse when I am using a web browser, but it occurs consistently.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently bought an Inspiron 15Z 5523 (Win 8) and started experiencing ghost clicks on the touch screen (primarily on the left side of the screen). Once it starts happening, it pretty much makes it impossible to use the laptop since it starts to click/zoom/scroll randomly continuously. Leaving it alone wont fix it. I have to turn off the laptop via the power button and the problem fixes itself sometimes after turning it back on, but at other times, have to leave it off for longer. I have also tried wiping the screen clean, but doesn't work either.
How can I disable the touch screen temporarily?
I have an Inspiron 17R that is 4 months out of warranty. 99% of the time when you hit the power button the power light comes on, the disk light comes on and you can hear it spin. Then all you get is a beep that is almost a "click" every 2 seconds. You have to hold the power button to actually power off again.
SOMETIMES you can hold the "D" down with power up and get the screen to go through the rainbow routine. But on totally rare occasions it will boot and come up in Windows and you can login, etc and work normally. I cannot pinpoint the sound because it actually sounds like it's coming from the speaker.
I get no Dell logo or POST diagnostics, so I can't go into setup or advanced diagnostics either.
i've noticed now, and it's annoying that sometimes when i touch the trackpoint or touchpad LIGHTLY, like just right before.
i use it, it'll register it as a left click and i'll end up dragging things around instead of moving the cursor..
so now i try to plan and leave the cursor at an area of the screen/desktop where it won't select anything.. .
happens maybe 5% of the time, but since i use those pointing devices so much it's annoying. doesn't happen when i have a mouse though btw..
I have owned my Dell M1330 notebook PC (specs in signature below) for over 4 years. Several weeks ago, the left and right-click touchpad buttons stopped working. The touchpad itself seems to be operating normally. I surmise I inadvertently deactivated the touchpad. I checked the manual, but it did not reveal how to reactivate (or deactivate) the touchpad buttons. How to reactivate the touchpad buttons, such as using the shortcut keys? I read one post in a PC forum of a similar situation; in that situation, the user's touchpad cable had come loose, but I understand this is a rare occurrence.
