How do I go about getting a new touchpad from Dell on an in-warranty laptop? My left-click button incessantly sticks. It is not a software issue, and I am well within my warranty. I have already done the software trouble-shooting. It is a hardware issue and I'm relatively certain I need a new touchpad.

I have a problem with double clicking. (assume that all clicking is the left click) It is most apparent on the internet, when I hit the back button once, I go back two pages. Its annoying, but now i'm having trouble highlighting, and other important tasks. I do know about keyboard alternatives, but the mouse is just more convenient.
This problem started soon after my laptop survived having orange juice spilled onto it.
I have done my own research, and most forums state a software problem, but I am sure that I have a mechanical problem. I noticed that there is an "upstroke" and a "downstroke" to my click. When I click, that is the downstroke, the mouse performs as it's supposed to; but when I lift my finger, there is a second click that I did not intend, the upstroke. I've tested this on button clicking games on my laptop, and on other computers.
I've recently purchases a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 540 and it worked just fine untill earlyer today.While i was browsing the internet, some how my touchpad developed a problem.It only registeres right click where ever i click.I've deleted the drivers, even tho they were the knewest ones, downloaded a fresh .exe and installed it after the reset and what not and it still has the same problem.
If i turn off the touchpad in the ultranav software and enable only trackapad, the buttons work like they should, the large area in the touchpad registeres as the left click and the small area in the top right is registered as the right click. Tho i can't use the touchpad for navigation.So clicking doesn't works, well neither does tapping. I can doubletap normaly, but i cannot tap and drag such as selecting a block of text.
Again, i've already tried a fresh install of ultranav drivers and it didn't work. The problem manifested itself during normal browsing, nothing was installed nor changed hardware vise. It litteraly changed in a second.how to solve it since the driver reinstall didn't work.
dell 5547/win 8.1 touchpad left click not responding correctly randomly, not all times, left click not work and both clicks respond as right click sometimes once or twice a week….or two or three times a day.
latest driver updated and also driver uninstall and re-install OS format and reinstall but problem still there.
When I depress the left button on the touchpad it "single clicks". When I release pressure from that button there is another "single click". I have looked at the Mouse settings and I do not see an option for this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy Sleep button stopped recently. I installed TuneUp Utilities 2013. will this be a problem? There are three buttons on the top right of the key board. First one is working fine but the remaining two are not functioning. when I press them, button is glowing in white for a couple of seconds and nothing happening.
I generally use my lappy to listen to music and while it plays, I used to put the monitor off to save power. But suddenly it stopped working. Is this a hardware problem or something else? I tried restoring the power options but didn't solve the issue.
And my laptop is taking so much (around 15 minutes) for re-booting. Of course I have installed many programs. I make sure to remove all the un-necessary start up programs. I have a 8 GB RAM. But when compared to other laptops, it is taking really huge time to start!
My laptop was working fine yesterday. This morning when I turned it on nothing happened. The back light on the power button doesn't even come on.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi've noticed now, and it's annoying that sometimes when i touch the trackpoint or touchpad LIGHTLY, like just right before.
i use it, it'll register it as a left click and i'll end up dragging things around instead of moving the cursor..
so now i try to plan and leave the cursor at an area of the screen/desktop where it won't select anything.. .
happens maybe 5% of the time, but since i use those pointing devices so much it's annoying. doesn't happen when i have a mouse though btw..
I have owned my Dell M1330 notebook PC (specs in signature below) for over 4 years. Several weeks ago, the left and right-click touchpad buttons stopped working. The touchpad itself seems to be operating normally. I surmise I inadvertently deactivated the touchpad. I checked the manual, but it did not reveal how to reactivate (or deactivate) the touchpad buttons. How to reactivate the touchpad buttons, such as using the shortcut keys? I read one post in a PC forum of a similar situation; in that situation, the user's touchpad cable had come loose, but I understand this is a rare occurrence. The left-mouse-click function of my UltraNav and Touchpad are not working anymore. The buttons are clicking normally, but do not have any functionality.
I am using a dual boot system with Win7 Home Premium SP1 and Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS... I did several checks:

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased an Acer Aspire R7-572-6423 touchscreen notebook. It works great for the most part except for the touchscreen seems to glitch out every once in a while. What happens is out of nowhere the touch screen will start registering a click in the very upper left corner of the screen (as seen by the Windows 8 touch visual feedback) even though I am not touching the screen. The clicking happens very fast (several times a second) and makes the notebook unusuable.
I can make the clicking stop by touching and holding my finger on the screen near where the clicking is happening. However, as soon as I lift my finger, the clicking resumes.
To fix the issue, I have to do a touch screen calibration (Windows settings -> Tablet PC Settings -> Calibrate -> Touch input). However, the calibration appears to be off using this method (I cannot swipe the windows 8 bar to the right) so I then do a calibration reset (Tablet PC Settings -> Reset). This generally resolves the issue for a while.
I have tried moving the screen into different positions and cleaning the screen but the issue still comes back on occasion.
The left mouse button on my m1530 has taken a battering. It has gone all lop-sided, crunches every time I press it, and now doesn't work at all unless I press down on it very very hard with two fingers.
I work fast, so this is an incredibly frustrating thing to happen, as everything now takes ten times longer to do.
Yesterday while I was working on a spreadsheet, the left button of my trackpad on my Dell XPS 15z just mysteriously stopped working. I assumed that maybe my system was slowing down, as I tend to multitask and often will have a LOT going on at once. So I restarted, since it had been about a three days since my system was restarted. Anyway, it did no good. Still, the left button wasn't working.
So, I then pressed it SUPER hard and it started working. Today, I noticed that it was messing up again. However now, depressing the key good and hard doesn't seem to magically fix the situation. Moreover, it doesn't work at all now instead of intermittent workability.
There wasn't any sort of update or anything... I'm really confused. Right button has no issues, but clearly I need both. Not sure what I should do.
As a confirmed trackpoint user, having the mouse built into the trackpad of the T431s is causing me all sort of grief, including sore wrists - but there are two problems I can't seem to diagnose.
1) When clicking the pad for left mouse click, it often does not work until I click it a few times. I notice this more when I disable the trackpad for cursor movement (which I had to do because the cursor moves when I try to click) - but its there even when that is enabled. It comes and goes. I guess there could be some foot trapped in there, but I've only had it a week and been pretty careful. I'd rather not learn to remove the keyboard on day 6.
2) The right click gets into a condition where, when browsing,a click brings up a new tab of the link I clicked on, rather than showing me the options (open in new tab, incognito window, save link, etc). If I connect a real mouse, it is normal.
I have a collapsed left mouse button on my m1530 touchpad. The button still works but does not return to its original position so it is most likely the return spring (or whatever it is) that is broken.
The laptop is out of warranty so I'm looking for a way to fix this myself. I've tried searching for this part but with no success,
and I can't find any pictures of this part to tell whether I can use some other substitute.
I have a dell Studio 1558 laptop. I'm extremely careful not to have liquids anywhere near my keyboard. However I was drinking tea and felt I was far enough back that liquids should not even reach the laptop. I was probably about a foot back. Well one of my cats nudged my arm and hit it with enough force that a few drops hit the touch pad. I cleaned it up. This morning I turn my laptop on and now my left touch pad button does not work. I figured that I probably needed to clean it. So I pried the button off gently. And used a little rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and cleaned it off. When I pried it up it didn't look really dirty at all. There was no residue on the inside that I could see. I put the button back on, and it still doesn't work. So now I'm wondering if enough got inside to actually cause damage or if it's just coincidental that the button stopped working at the same time? I used it all the time for copying stuff and scrolling. I can use all the other buttons and scroll without using it.
Should the cleaning underneath have cured it if it was the liquid? If the liquid got past the underneath of the key itself then it should have affected the whole key pad not just one key, right?
I have a brand new ProBook 430 G2 (SKU # G6W35EA#ABB) with Windows 8.1, fully updated. I find that every 10-15 minutes, the left button on the trackpad becomes unresponsive. The trackpad still moves the mouse pointer and the right button continues to work, but the left button does not react. This lasts for several minutes, perhaps 3-4. Then the left button resumes working as if nothing had happened. Since the button resumes working, I suspect it is more likely to be a software issue with the driver or Windows 8.1.
I have Synaptics TouchPad driver version 18.1.8.1, the current version of the driver.

My computer does not have button to left button of the mouse, so I use 2 fingers to get use the funtions of the letf button. However, this is not working anymore.
My notbook is HP ENVY 15-j054ca Notebook PC.
I prefer the click approach on the Apple Macbook Air, where you can click anywhere on the trackpad to get a normal (left) click. On the Yoga 13, you can click anywhere EXCEPT the lower-right side of the button, where it instead registers a right-click. I have to be aware of where on the trackpad I can click and where I can't.
Any way to turn off the right-click area and just make the entire trackpad a left-click? I have already turned off the tap-click ability, so I'm just talking about clicks where you press the surface of the trackpad down.
Using an XPS15. My left touchpad button has some problems. It seems to only work if it's pressed 2-3 times, or if you push it down hard...
Could this be related to any settings / firmware? - I think it's more likely that's it's probably failing and needs to be replaced?

View 15 Replies View Relatedon an L530, when i click and hold the left mouse button on the trackpoint while performing a "sweep" operation -- ie dragging out a rectangular area on the display -- the button doesn't stay held; it prematurely unclicks / releases before i lift my finger off the button.
i had this problem with the original keyboard. i called support, they quickly shipped a replacement keyboard, and almost as quickly the problem reoccurred.
this is annoying, because i frequently perform mouse sweeps (almost exclusively in conjunction with "snipping tool" on win7). invariably, i need to retry the sweep 2,3,4,5,6.... times before i'm successful at getting what i want. and i'm pressing down on the button with significantly more force than should be required.
this isn't a problem that develops over time; it's there from the get-go.
i've phoned in to support again, and they're shipping me a 3rd keyboard. sounds like a design flaw, since the same problem's shown up on 2 keyboards. (progress has been made, however; on the original keyboard, F10 wasn't working reliably either; on the now-in-use 2nd keyboard, F10 works fine.) hope i'm wrong about the chronic failure, and 3rd time's a charm...
I'm using a old dell inspiron 6400 this isn't my main laptop anymore but i still love it so i want to fix it a year or 2 ago the laptop wouldn't boot i fixed it by taking one ram stick out of DIMM B i have 2 slots it use to have 512mb on each side one on dimm A and one on Dimm B. I want to use the second ram stick so i can use 1024 mb of ram. if i put them both in numlock 9 is on(and shining green) numclock A and Numlock down arrow are blinking(green).
and also i get a arrow at boot saying the ac adapter type cannot be determined please connect a dell 65w charager or better for optimal preformance and blah blah the battery will not charge and performance will decrease. I purchased to dell chargers with my laptop a 65w and a 90w they both give the sam error i did research on both my problems until i joined this and someone said that the cords were flexed and the wires weren't connecting. well both of my chargers have been flexed for 1-2 years is this why?
