View 5 RepliesSo last night my laptop was running fine on battery power, but then it was running low, so I plugged in the power cord. Nothing happened. Since the adapter at the laptop end was falling apart and duct-taped anyways, I figured it was just conking out, but then I saw the indicator light on the power brick was off.
With some experimentation, I found that if I moved it to a different outlet, the light would come back on, but if I plugged it into my laptop, the light would die, and I would have to again move it to a different outlet (the same one as first would work fine) to get the indicator light back on. It works in other Dell laptops. Other adapters do the exact same thing.
So I'm guessing there's a problem with my laptop wiring that's causing a short or something. (Apologies for my shallow electrical knowledge.) But it was working last night on battery power. Until the battery died completely this morning, it would power up. So it's not an electrical problem that kills the laptop.
I have a dell inspiron 15r 5521 laptop. Yesterday when I tried to turn it on it won't boot, even the POST or the BIOS won't show up. I removed the battery and power supply and press down the power button for a long time and repeated it a lot of times too but no luck. I removed the HDD, RAMs and the CMOS battery and kept it that way for 5 mins and put them back in but it was still the same. I noticed that whenever I enter the ac adaptor into the laptop the fan moves for like 100millisecond and the light on the caps lock button lights up for the same amount of time then it all goes silent. Same happens when I press the power button with only the battery inserted.
All what happens when I try to turn it on is that the power indicator light on the laptop turns on(white color, which is the normal color for this laptop), and that's it. The light don't blink or anything at all. No beep sound. The fan, HDD everything remains silent. Only that light stays on until I unplug it from ac and remove the battery. Pressing down the power button doesn't turn it off either. No other indicator light such as the wifi's, hdd's, battery's light doesn't turn on.
.After I push power button, one of 3 lock lights, the A lock flashes blue, and a steady blue power light occurs to right of keboard, for about 5-7 seconds, then turns off after a soft high pitched beep.. The computer did get hot before this occurred. Tried getting new power cord because old one was not correct one. Tried booting up with and without battery & did not work. Screen never comes up.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Inspiron N5050 laptop was working fine. I got home and tried to power it on but got nothing so I figured it needed charged. I plugged the a/c adapter in and pressed the power button and still nothing? I tried removing the battery and trying to power it on with and without the a/c adapter. The only light it has lit is the charging light when its plugged in. Not even any sounds or the fan.
View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently replaced the CMOS battery ourselves after getting the 5 beeps. Put everything back together but a couple of screws were loose and came out. Regardless the computer booted up fine and worked for a week. Yesterday it would not power on, at all. Unscrewed everything, opened it up, found some loose connections and tightened up, then replaced missing screws, seemed that they were tight and not spinning in place. Computer powered on fine. Next day, computer powers on again. Then, after a brief power down, it won't come on. AGAIN. Opened everything back up and saw the hard drive was loose so tightened that up via external screw. Put back together and made sure all connections were tight and re-screwed. Still will not power on.

View 15 Replies View RelatedMy daughter was using her laptop (19 months old Inspiron 15R N5010) a couple days ago when all of a sudden, all but the bottom of her screen went black, the bottom was all garbled. Then a weird shrieking noise came out of the laptop and everything powered off (it was on battery). So she plugs in the ac power cord, thinking her battery was dead. Computer started to power on, fans & hard-drive spinning, but no screen at all, all black. After a couple minutes, the same weird shrieking sound and everything off again, but that time, a burnt smell came out of the fan exhaust.
Now, with our without ac power, the only thing that "works" on the laptop is the power button LED, everything else is silent. No fan, no hard-drive, no dvd player spinning. It's out of warranty, unfortunately, and hse needs it for class. I've fixed laptop before, actually on 2 occasions I replaced motherboards on other brand laptops without any issues... but while looking at the inside of the N5010, there are 2 boards inside, the mother board, and the power/ac/wan board...
Working on a dell Inspiron b130 laptop. The power is plugged in, and battery is in. The power will not turn on at all, no fan or CPU. The main power light comes on when button is pressed for a moment then goes off. The battery light flashes slowly. The power cord adapter has a light on it and that says its working. I have tried taking the battery out and that does nothing.
I had assumed since its an older laptop that maybe the power was so drained that it needed it to be charged a little to have enough power to turn on. But it's been awhile an nothing yet. Is it trashed? We do have another hard drive around to try would that matter at all?
Last night I closed my Dell Inspiron 14z - 1523 when it was almost out of power. Later that night I was not able to turn it on again. Power indicator on the AC adapter is on, but when I do the AC adapter in my laptop the power indicator of my laptop stays off (when plugged in the power indicator of the AC adapter is a little less strong four half a second or so).
I read some topics on this forum and discovered the reset button at the back of the laptop. I tried this option, hope it would solve the issue, but the issue remain...
I just bought a new laptop as mentioned in the subject and am wondering...
The power button on this laptop never lights up at all.
I can't tell that pressing the power button has done anything at all until I see the screen come on.
Is that normal for this brand of Dell? I mean to have no light on the power button indicating that it has been pressed?
This is a late 2008 build Dell Inspiron 1545, sold retail in December 2010.
Pentium dual core T4500, 2.3 GHz
Has been in irregular use as a spare machine, mains adapter only, battery removed. My house was struck by lightning over a year ago and adapter damaged. Replaced adapter and no further issue until now.
Laptop would not power up, no light. Tested adapter and tried another 2 adapters - still no power up. Replaced original adapter and plugged in depleted battery - powered up but had to press F1. Powered up with no issue with good battery. Once powered up the laptop seems to be charging battery OK. Guessed this was a power board issue but no change when replacement fitted.
My Dell XPS M1530 just shut down on me. When I plug the charger into the laptop, the green light on the charger turns off, just like it wasn't plugged into the wall outlet.
I tried a second charger, and the light on that one just blinks in rapid succession. I've tried booting it up without the battery and with a replacement battery with the same results.
So now my laptop can't start up and I'm not sure what's going on.
I did customize the bios, but Wake on Ac is not enabled.
What is occurring is if we leave the laptop not plugged into an AC adapter overnight, the next time the laptop is connected to the ac adapter it will turn itself on. This occurs even with the lid closed.
I suspect the problem is coming from the Auto on Time in the bios. We have the Auto on time set to 12:01am (local). My suspicion is that if the auto on timer is missed, it is turned on at the next possible moment.
Is there a way to set the machine not to auto on if it misses the auto on time?

I recently purchased DELL N5010 INSPIRON, but now it give one problem. It is not run without AC power. and when i point the battery through mouse it show
"17% available (Plugged in, Not Charging).
And battry light flashing 4 times with orange light after a second. It is the bug or any hardware problem, because the bettery may be only 2 month old...
My laptop was working fine till yesterday night. I had left it with the power cable connected and it had gone to sleep. Today morning I tried to switch it on but the screen wont show anything. I switced it off (using press and hold the power button) and now the laptop wont start. When I press the power button, the power light comes on, the hard-disk light switches on for a second and turns off and the screen is always blank. This happens regardless of the laptop being connect using battery or power cable. I have tried pressing the Fn key along with the lcd screen key and the screen did show up some tests in a blue screen and they were all a pass. But when i try to do a nromal boot, the screen never shows anything.

The battery on it flashes 3 out of 5 lights but not in order. The two end lights and the middle light comes in. They flash in unison 3 times before turning off. Anyway I plugged in 2 different chargers to the computer and the battery light on the pc flashes 3 or 4 orange and then 1 green. Then it resumes the light cycle just mentioned. The computer gives ZERO response to this whatsoever. If I unplug the ac adapter, the computer turns on for four seconds. No hdd noise, no fans, just a green power light ONLY. Not sure how to fix this or what it is, but nobody in the forums or on youtube or google seem to have solutions or even the same issue. I have tried reseating both ram, unplugging the wifi chip, dvd drive, doing the 20 second power drain without battery hooked up. All the same responses, just nothing....
My Dell Inspiron 15 will not boot up. Started randomly shutting down over a week period. Would also display a plaid screen which would require a hard shut down by me. I was trying to run Dell diagnostics on it and noted that the video card failed, but it could not complete the diagnostic without shutting down. Now the power supply light blinks on and off in a 10 second interval. It acts like it has no power, but I know the battery was charged.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Latitude E6510 that will not start. When pressing the power button, the power light goes on for about 5 seconds and then turns off. I also notice the battery light flashes a few times when re-connecting the AC adapter.
Removed the battery, held in the power button 30 seconds, but still not working.
We have had this laptop about 6 months. About a month ago, it exhibited this problem. After talking to Dell Support, they recommended a system board replacement. The laptop was sent in and the board was replaced. When I got it back and tried to start it for the first time, it did the same thing. I then pressed the Latitude "ON" button, and the laptop started.
Now it is doing the same thing, and I find it hard to believe that another system board is bad. I am suspicious about this "ON" feature, that maybe the laptop is "stuck" or something trying to get into the "ON" mode. Or maybe it is just trying to get into "ON" mode.
I am not sure what the "ON" feature does, but I have noticed a few other posts on the internet of users having the exact same problem. Again--I find it hard to believe a second system board could be bad.
My laptop was working fine yesterday. This morning when I turned it on nothing happened. The back light on the power button doesn't even come on.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis morning, my Inspiron 3721 (18 months old) failed to turn on. Worked fine last night.
Symptoms: on pressing power button, only power light illuminates, but no other noises, no fans, no screen response.
Have removed battery, removed power lead, held down power button for 50 seconds. Reconnected battery & power lead, but no change to above behaviour.
Tried a different power lead but no change to above.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 15r 3537 five or so months ago. I haven't had many problems with it but just today, I have run into a few issues, wont load up, the power light flashes for a split second then nothing which seemed to resolve it's self after I ran a systems diagnostics (which everything was running fine and I received no error codes). I left it alone for a few hours and then when I started it back it up....nothing. It isn't taking charge though the charger is still showing a green light on it. I've taken the battery out and held down the button for 15-30-45 seconds all with no result.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspirion 1526 that when I turn on the laptop, the blue power light comes on and the lights all come on but the screen is black. I here my laptop running but it looks like my screen just stopped working. I wasnt sure what it was so I bought a new battery to see if that was the problem and the screen still does not come on. I had this laptop for about 3 years and thought it was the battery or charger and its not.
View 4 Replies View Relatedno slow-downs, BSOD's or anything - not even a fan running high and hot. All of a sudden, video blanks, no beeps, no ctl-alt-del, etc. Then no reboot post beeps and no BIOS. LED power light comes on, HD light flashes once, stays off , and battery charge light works until battery is charged. Holding PWR button down forces "off", and PWR on repeats single HD light on to off. Is this the motherboard? Also, pulled HDD - needed business info from it right away, so it reads on other computers, scanned for both viruses and errors, and is clean.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMonth ago x200 works well. I leave it on table for a mont and do not use it at all. But now, x200 turns on only with inserted AC adapter charger. It does not turn on with only inserted battery (without AC adapter charger), just nothing happend when I press power button.
But battery charges and program "Thinkpad Power Manager" detects battery and it's charge. Battery is ok (tested on another X200 and works well).
I have a Dell E4310, about 2 years old. When I connect the charger just to a power socket the green light on the charger comes on but when I plug the other end into the laptop the green light on the charger goes off, I have taken the battery off the laptop and it still does the same thing, and in both cases the laptop will not power up and no light appears on it.
