Dell :: XPS M1530 Charger Turns Off When Plugged In
May 9, 2010
My Dell XPS M1530 just shut down on me. When I plug the charger into the laptop, the green light on the charger turns off, just like it wasn't plugged into the wall outlet.
I tried a second charger, and the light on that one just blinks in rapid succession. I've tried booting it up without the battery and with a replacement battery with the same results.
So now my laptop can't start up and I'm not sure what's going on.
Month ago x200 works well. I leave it on table for a mont and do not use it at all. But now, x200 turns on only with inserted AC adapter charger. It does not turn on with only inserted battery (without AC adapter charger), just nothing happend when I press power button.
But battery charges and program "Thinkpad Power Manager" detects battery and it's charge. Battery is ok (tested on another X200 and works well).
Recently I have a problem with the battery, The laptop detects the battery well and displays the percentage of charge and that the battery is charging etc. (on windows 7), but as soon as I remove the charger, it turns off and does not restart without the charger plugged.
I tried with another battery, same result. I also noticed that the battery light flashes 4 times red, then green again.
I have the same problem. I have an Inspiron 14z (N411z)
My battery light is flashing orange and the battery icon says that my charger is plugged in but not charging. So when I unplug my laptop it automatically dies. It's been like this for about a week and I've tried everything I found online including
Battery Health says 'System cannot communicate with battery'
Battery Status says ' Battery Charging disabled'
I tried to flash the BIOS by downloading the latest version, however it gives me an error message saying battery needs to be atleast 10% to flash BIOS. Or, it says 'Service already exists'
I bought the laptop in 2011 December, but didn't start using it until October 2012. The laptop is relatively new in terms of usage.
I am having 15 R 5521 I plugged in my charger. But seems it was not working. There was no yellow indicator on charger. I ran the diagnostic run test. It showed me result as PASS all the test. On the same switch I plugged my mobile charger and the same was getting charged.
I have just received my new XPS15 4 days ago, and when I first switched it on it was fine. After 2 day, with the charger plugged in. A message shown on setup screen saying "Charger is plugged in but not charging." I have checked the charger it is definitely a 130W charger, and the LED on the cable is on constant. After window started, same message shown up again. but the battery icon was shown charging, and the battery was showing 100%. So is this a software issue, or hardware? As I have seen may other user are experiencing the same problem.
I did customize the bios, but Wake on Ac is not enabled.
What is occurring is if we leave the laptop not plugged into an AC adapter overnight, the next time the laptop is connected to the ac adapter it will turn itself on. This occurs even with the lid closed.
I suspect the problem is coming from the Auto on Time in the bios. We have the Auto on time set to 12:01am (local). My suspicion is that if the auto on timer is missed, it is turned on at the next possible moment.
Is there a way to set the machine not to auto on if it misses the auto on time?
We are using the A09 bios version, and below is the ini file taken of bios settings from the cctk. (minus the service tag.)
I turn my laptop on and the screen is dim but I can see everything fine it works fine but then I plug in the power and the screen brightens up to normal then 3 seconds later it goes blank everythin in the back round is still running everything is fine but I can't do anything because the screen is blank. So I usually have to turn it off and let the battery charge all the way which it does and that works fine. So then I can start it up on the battery working fine but as soon as I go to charge it while its on the screen goes blank...
My laptop charger suddenly stopped working. Last night it was still working perfectly normal. I tried using my friend's charger and it charges, so it's not the battery's problem. It's not the problem with 'Plugged in, Not charging' , but actually there is no response when I plug in the charger. Is it the software problem or is it the charger's problem? Is there a way to fix the charger?
I've ran into a running issue where my computer's (Aspire E 15 or E5-511-P0GC) has a performance drop in CPU frequency only when I plug in my computer's given charger that came with my computer. I've already tried updating my BIOS to the newest version, performed computer resets and restarts, run anti-virus programs such as MalwareBytes and Avast, and checked my power settings (where everything was set on high performance no matter what).
I've recently bought the product about a month ago and have been trying to solve the problem for awhile now. What I've noticed occurs is a drop in CPU frequency from its typical 118% percent on high performance battery settings to a 22% still on the same high performance battery settings. I viewed this change in windows resource monitor when I unplug and plug in my charger. (btw, I own other laptops and none of them have the same problem)
Those who think its a intel speedstep process then why would my laptop perform worse when I plug it in when speedstep is suppose to do the opposite to preserve the batteries life span. Plus I can't find a way to disable speedstep if my laptop has it as my BIOS is basically locked and there are no advance settings.
So last night my laptop was running fine on battery power, but then it was running low, so I plugged in the power cord. Nothing happened. Since the adapter at the laptop end was falling apart and duct-taped anyways, I figured it was just conking out, but then I saw the indicator light on the power brick was off.
With some experimentation, I found that if I moved it to a different outlet, the light would come back on, but if I plugged it into my laptop, the light would die, and I would have to again move it to a different outlet (the same one as first would work fine) to get the indicator light back on. It works in other Dell laptops. Other adapters do the exact same thing.
So I'm guessing there's a problem with my laptop wiring that's causing a short or something. (Apologies for my shallow electrical knowledge.) But it was working last night on battery power. Until the battery died completely this morning, it would power up. So it's not an electrical problem that kills the laptop.
My Acer aspire switch 10 automatically turns itself off if it is charging and the lid is closed, when i tru to use it i find it hard to turn on and 99% or th time i need to hold the poer button for 10-15 seconds once or twice for it to power on. Never used to do this when i got it but not sure if it is windows being buggy or hardware...
I have a problem with my Lenovo. The problem is that whenever I plug or unplug my pc adapter, the screen goes black for a second or so. I didnt experience this problem before, it started to occur a week or 2 ago.URL....
I have an M1530 running Windows 7 64bit. I have the display set to turn off after 10 minutes.
When the display turns off I can still see a band of blue light running along the bottom of the display and at night it appears as if the entire display still has a glow to it
I have a dell xps m1530. Yesterday, suddenly a problem developed. The laptop charges for a few secs and then the battery icon says plugged in, not charging. I have tested the power supply and the adapter pin on the laptop motherboard its working fine. I purchased the laptop 4 months ago. i am using windows vista Ultimate with sp1.
i was having this wierd behavior of my laptop where battery woudnt charge above 6%, ive tried most of the "solutions" on the web, but none of them worked.
-Desinstalling Microsoft's ACPI-Compliant control method battery
-Doing a vista clean install
-Restarting/Removing/Plugging the battery from the laptop with the system running and shut down, and all sorts of combinations between.
-Trying different AC (from dell, some of my friends have got some dell systems, i tried a m1330 AC)
-Tried to find a battery calibrator, but was unsuccesful, and even tried to downgrade my BIOS, but couldnt because my battery wasnt charged above 10% (thats a requisite to flash the BIOS)
NONE OF THOSE WORKED.
So i called dell, they told me to go to the BIOS, tech guys told me that the problem could be figured out there by 2 ways, it'd either:
-Recognize the AC adapter (in due case, it was a battery problem) -Or it wouldnt recognize it (in which case, it would be a MoBo or a AC adapter problem.
Turned out it recognized the AC adapter, so next step was to send me a new battery, since i had a 6 cell battery (which the dell guy confirmed after i gave him the serial number of the battery) i expected to receive a 6 cell battery replacement, but no, lucky me i received a 9 CELL BATTERY INSTEAD, free within warranty period (system is only 7 months old) so yeah, im happy, and my battery is charging again.
Everything is fine, so i thought i would share this info for you guys.
One thing to get in consideration: The embedded battery health indicator might not indicate that the battery is healthy, since my faulty battery had 5/5 green lights when i tried to check the health but was still faulty (my new one has 5/5 health lights and works wonderful)
i installed the Bios A12 for XPS M1530, my battery has been giving me the "plugged in, not charging" message. I've read in other threads that going back to Bios A09 fixed the problem for some people. I want to try that myself, but the problem is i can't install Bios A09 because my available battery left is only 4%. And the only way i would be able to install the Bios A09 is if i have at east 10% battery available. Since my battery can't charge,
I can barely touch my charger it is so hot, it is one of the new slimmer blocks. It is seriously hot and nowhere near the temperature of my friends Vaio block.
with an xps used my 9300 charger and now it wont power on anymore with her old charger. it would only bring her to the screen where it says...this is a different charger, even when she is now using her original charger. it was working before on battery, but now that her battery is discharged, it's not working.
I've had my D630 for over 1,5 years now and having grown tired of lugging the 65W PA-12 adapter to work and back, I'm thinking of buying an extra adapter, so the new one would stay stationary at home and the 65W one at work and on the move, if neccesary.
I know a safe bet would be the 90W PA-10 chunky brick but looking ahead (hint E6400), I'm thinking the E-series 90W flat brick would be a better choice. D and E series chargers voltages/amperages match but will the E series one work reliably? Both choices can be had for the same money
Having great difficulty trying to find one that will plug into the cigerrette lighter socket in a car. Could really do with one as I spend quite a bit of time on the road, and being able to use the laptop would help kill time (obviously i wouldn't be driving whilst doing this )
Dell doesn't have this, but are there any good third part solutions. I guess the reason Dell doesn't have it is that the computer demands a rather hefty PSU, but still...
I have a Dell Latitude E6400 which uses Dell's 90w Charger PA-10 which is a 90w 4.62A and 19.5V.
I have been looking for a second power supply, but before I drop the money on a new one. I also have an old Inspiron which uses a the 130w Dell Charger, it is a 6.7A power supply, and the same 19.5V as my Latitude Charger.
Could I use this charger with my Latitude without causing damage? I am just a little concerned about the Amperage being higher than my current charger.
I have a 90w Dell charger that came with my studio XPS 13 (6 cell).
If I was to use this charger on a 3 cell Dell Inspiron Mini 12, can this seriously damage the 3-cell battery, or are the chargers smart enough to know what type of battery they're charging?
