Acer Aspire E5-511-P0GC :: Decreased Performance When Given Charger Is Plugged In Only
Jan 8, 2015
I've ran into a running issue where my computer's (Aspire E 15 or E5-511-P0GC) has a performance drop in CPU frequency only when I plug in my computer's given charger that came with my computer. I've already tried updating my BIOS to the newest version, performed computer resets and restarts, run anti-virus programs such as MalwareBytes and Avast, and checked my power settings (where everything was set on high performance no matter what).
I've recently bought the product about a month ago and have been trying to solve the problem for awhile now. What I've noticed occurs is a drop in CPU frequency from its typical 118% percent on high performance battery settings to a 22% still on the same high performance battery settings. I viewed this change in windows resource monitor when I unplug and plug in my charger. (btw, I own other laptops and none of them have the same problem)
Those who think its a intel speedstep process then why would my laptop perform worse when I plug it in when speedstep is suppose to do the opposite to preserve the batteries life span. Plus I can't find a way to disable speedstep if my laptop has it as my BIOS is basically locked and there are no advance settings.
OS on my system is Windows 8.1

I have a Dell XPS 15 (L521x) laptop. While gaming my GPU heats up to temperatures ranging from 73 to 77 degrees Celsius (NOTE: This is with a CM Storm SF-19 cooling pad).
My question is how else can I reduce this heat because I know as it gets hotter it throttles back to avoid crashing, thus decreasing performance.
Here are specs of everything:Model - Dell XPS 15 (L521x)OS- Windows 7 64-bitCPU - Intel Core i7-3632QMBIOS - A13 (Up to date)SSD - 128GB (OS is on this, 30GB free)HDD - 1TB (300GB free)RAM - 16GBGPU - Nvidia GT 640MDrivers for EVERYTHING (including my graphics card) are up to date.CM Storm SF-19 Gaming Laptop Cooling Pad with two 140mm Turbine Fans (1200-2600 RPM's, I always keep it at max blast)
Using software program, Open Hardware Monitor (and having my cooling pad on max blast), I have retrieved the following data:~ My CPU idles around 60 degrees Celsius and can max around 70 degrees Celsius~ My GPU idles around 44 degrees Celsius and can max around 77 degrees CelsiusMy room temperature varies from 10-20 degrees Celsius (50-65 degrees Fahrenheit)I had this laptop since July of 2012 and I had just had my motherboard swapped (GPU was integrated), heat sink re-seated, and cleaned of dust (wasn't really any in there). It was under warranty (and still is).

My Dell XPS M1530 just shut down on me. When I plug the charger into the laptop, the green light on the charger turns off, just like it wasn't plugged into the wall outlet.
I tried a second charger, and the light on that one just blinks in rapid succession. I've tried booting it up without the battery and with a replacement battery with the same results.
So now my laptop can't start up and I'm not sure what's going on.

I have the same problem. I have an Inspiron 14z (N411z)
My battery light is flashing orange and the battery icon says that my charger is plugged in but not charging. So when I unplug my laptop it automatically dies. It's been like this for about a week and I've tried everything I found online including
Battery Health says 'System cannot communicate with battery'
Battery Status says ' Battery Charging disabled'
I tried to flash the BIOS by downloading the latest version, however it gives me an error message saying battery needs to be atleast 10% to flash BIOS. Or, it says 'Service already exists'
I bought the laptop in 2011 December, but didn't start using it until October 2012. The laptop is relatively new in terms of usage.

My laptop charger suddenly stopped working. Last night it was still working perfectly normal. I tried using my friend's charger and it charges, so it's not the battery's problem. It's not the problem with 'Plugged in, Not charging' , but actually there is no response when I plug in the charger. Is it the software problem or is it the charger's problem? Is there a way to fix the charger?

I have just received my new XPS15 4 days ago, and when I first switched it on it was fine. After 2 day, with the charger plugged in. A message shown on setup screen saying "Charger is plugged in but not charging." I have checked the charger it is definitely a 130W charger, and the LED on the cable is on constant. After window started, same message shown up again. but the battery icon was shown charging, and the battery was showing 100%. So is this a software issue, or hardware? As I have seen may other user are experiencing the same problem.
I have checked the plug was connected correctly.

I turn my laptop on and the screen is dim but I can see everything fine it works fine but then I plug in the power and the screen brightens up to normal then 3 seconds later it goes blank everythin in the back round is still running everything is fine but I can't do anything because the screen is blank. So I usually have to turn it off and let the battery charge all the way which it does and that works fine. So then I can start it up on the battery working fine but as soon as I go to charge it while its on the screen goes blank...

Month ago x200 works well. I leave it on table for a mont and do not use it at all. But now, x200 turns on only with inserted AC adapter charger. It does not turn on with only inserted battery (without AC adapter charger), just nothing happend when I press power button.
But battery charges and program "Thinkpad Power Manager" detects battery and it's charge. Battery is ok (tested on another X200 and works well).

I seem to have some driver problems with my brand new acer aspire 7740G.
I've got the model with i3 core in it.
The thing is that I absolutely can't run any games really...
I've tried both Bad company 2 and modern warfare 2.. And I have massive lag with everything on low. I know this can only be something with my drivers to do. Since this laptop is much better than my old LG. And my old LG could run both bad company 2 and modern warfare 2 with graphics around medium...
I've been looking around, and the only driver error my computer can find is intel turbo boost technology driver. But I think I read somewhere that I don't need it because it is only for the i7 core? Aswell as it comes up with an error with my audio but that shouldn't have any influence on the performance..
Also.. I tried running CPU-Z and it doesn't come up with any information at all on my memory(ram) and and shows the model name of my graphic card (HD 5470).. It doesn't show any clocks or anything at all....
Yes I've tried to download some of the drivers from acer's site but it obviously still don't want to work...

My Aspire 7520 laptop is running good , and all goes well.. But when I want to play a game (lets say WoW) , the game has a strange , stuttering lag... Like when you have to many applications on. Its almost if my computer can't handle it.
My Laptop has these specifications , and i wonder if it has anything to do with this.
Windows Vista Home Premium
AMD 64 Athlon x 2 (Dual-core processor)
NVIDIA GeForce 7000M videocard
120GB hard drive disk space
2024MB RAM DDR
I just bought it brand new, I've had it for about 2 weeks now. And I was wondering how i could make the games go faster... Ive looked about everywhere and no solutions so far.
What i have tried:
-Letting the game run on only 1 core-FAILED
-Trying to set up XP on my computer-FAILED miserably to the point where i was afraid i screwed up my computer fully. Lucky someone helped me, as i couldn't run the backup for some reason... he let me autoboot vista without autobooting XP... next time ill need more info before i F up my computer
(Also , would it help in game performance when i downgrade to XP?)

I'm getting the Acer Aspire 5920G LX.AQB0X.612 and was wondering if anyone here has it and is willing to comment about its gaming performance. I'm talking about the likes of HL2, UT2004, COD2 etc. Fairly old games, not Crysis or anything.

I bought this laptop because it is able to play some games, but since a few months, it has some annoying performance issues.
In every 3D game, after a few minutes the fps rate suddenly breaks down to 4-5 fps for 20-25 seconds accompanied with an audible fan noise, then the frame rate returns back to normal. After another 2-5 minutes (depending on game), the same phenomenon happens, the frame rate breaks down for 20-25 seconds, then back to normal for a few minutes, and so on.
With the help of Ati Tray Tools, I monitored CPU and GPU activity and temperature, and it showed that every 2-5 mins, the GPU load dropped from 60-80% down to 10-30% for these few seconds. At the same time the CPU load increases (trying to pick up the slack?). The GPU temp seems to be the reason, as it steadily rises (to 65-72 degrees, depending on game), and when the frame rate breaks down it cools a few degrees and then slowly rises again.
I have had it serviced two times by Acer already, the first time they just reinstalled factory settings (great, what a help!), and the second time, they said its a faulty HDD and swapped it out. Nothing changed, though, and they havent touched the graphics card either.
I dont know what else to do, or if anyone else has had this problem, and how they explained it to Acer. The last time I attached detailed reports and game demos for them to reproduce the error, but it seems they didnt check it.
and here are some basics:
Graphics Card is Ati Radeon HD 3470 X2 Hybrid
Windows Vista Home Premium fully patched
3GB RAM, 320 GB HDD
AMD Turion X2 CPU
Here is what didnt help:
- Disabling Ati Crossfire
- Disabling all but the most elemental Windows Services
- Installing various graphics drivers (including non-certified "tweaked" drivers)
- changing in-game resolutions or graphical effects (but notably the lag effect is largest at 60-80% GPU load - when it is 100%, for example in benchmarks, the GPU fan always spins at 100% and there is not the same lag effect)
- blowing through the air vents to clean out dust

Just mid usage, while plugged in, my laptop turned off completely unexpectedly. I do take care of my laptop, and it was not overheating, as it had been on only some five minutes, simply for browsing. Now, there are no signs of life. With whatever combination of the battery and/or adapter plugged in or not, it is always the same result; no lights at all and nothing to indicate what's happening. I tried holding down the power button with the battery and adapter out for two minutes and then trying again just with the adapter but that didn't work.

There is a tiny chance that this slight variation will work. Remove the battery and power cord, and hold the power button down for sixty seconds. Without turning it back on, re-install the battery and power cord and turn it on. If this doesn't work, then it is either a battery failure or a charger failure.

I have an Acer Aspire V3-551 which is having an overheating problem. However, it only overheats when I am playing some game and the laptop is plugged in. It will not over heat when the computer is on battery only. It shouldn't be the power cord because I have bought a new one since the problem started. Also, the heating seems to be coming from where the fan is.

I have a v3 571G laptop core i7 with a geforce 640m video card. Is not the faster video card but can handle advance video games in medium to high. Every time I play any video games, with settings from medium to high, at the beginning the fps are around 34 to 40 but after 10 to 20 min of playing, the fps gets down to 12 to 20 specially when there is explosions and such. Is my laptop video card dying or is something else?

Does anyone know whether or not my m1530 laptop automatically stays on "High Performance" while it is plugged in? I'm pretty sure I read somewhere a while ago that this was the case.
Whenever I leave my laptop on overnight I switch the power plan to "Balanced"...is doing this just a waste of time?

Aspire M5-481T-6488 - Does not recognize AC is plugged in. Does not charge battery.
Laptop is about 2 yrs old. Running on the origninal Windows 8 that came with it. Had the same issue when it was first bought. Sent it in to Acer. Came back with no report/ details. Worked okay. Until recently.
Noticed that orange light comes on when it feels like charging and stops charging at 35%. Charging is a hit and miss thing, mostly miss.
Tried:
Sticking a pin in the "battery reset" hole on the back
Uninstalling the "Microsoft API" battery
Removing battery to see if it'll work without it (it has an internal battery)

Recently I have purchased the Acer v15 Nitro Black Edition gaming notebook. Though I've noticed that not very intensive games are stressing my CPU to about 80-90C, which I am not entirely certain is the norm. This seems to happen primarily when the laptop is plugged in, as temps seem relatively stable when unplugged. I recently turned my CPU power down a bit (to 96%), and that has seemed to keep my temps relatively stable.
I guess my question is: Is this normal? I feel like those temps are way too high, and I fear of burning out my CPU. I am going to pickup a cooling pad today, and start using it when I play games. I am relatively certain my fans are working, but my CPU temps jump around quite a bit. I know gaming laptops are built to get hot, but the last thing I want is to burn my new toy.
