Sep 13, 2014
I think it is quite a big problem for me. The message from the battery label is "plugged in, not charging" and if i unplug the charger, the computer shuts down immediately. while charging the light is red and sometimes blinks.

There is a tiny chance that this slight variation will work. Remove the battery and power cord, and hold the power button down for sixty seconds. Without turning it back on, re-install the battery and power cord and turn it on. If this doesn't work, then it is either a battery failure or a charger failure.

Aspire M5-481T-6488 - Does not recognize AC is plugged in. Does not charge battery.
Laptop is about 2 yrs old. Running on the origninal Windows 8 that came with it. Had the same issue when it was first bought. Sent it in to Acer. Came back with no report/ details. Worked okay. Until recently.
Noticed that orange light comes on when it feels like charging and stops charging at 35%. Charging is a hit and miss thing, mostly miss.
Tried:
Sticking a pin in the "battery reset" hole on the back
Uninstalling the "Microsoft API" battery
Removing battery to see if it'll work without it (it has an internal battery)

I have had my Dell Inspiron 1525 for around two years. For the past month, when my power supply is plugged in, the battery does not charge. It has been stuck on 3% and will automatically shut down when unplugged.
I have seen that this is a very common problem, however, when hovering over the battery icon it says: plugged in, CHARGING, where as all of the other posts that I have seen say: plugged in, NOT charging.
I have tried taking the battery out and restarting but this did not work. I also drained my battery and tried to recharge but again, this did not work. My initial thought is that I may need a new battery but I just wanted to check first.

I have just encountered a problem with my Inspiron 7520 laptop. The laptop is plugged in and notes 'charging'. Problem is that it is not charging and battery has been at 0% for a week now.
Battery meter notes the battery is charging and that the battery is working normally. I have run the 'My Dell' systems test and it failed on the battery with error code WBT02-GX1...

I have a 4 Months old 2920Z laptop with Vista Home Permium. After 100% charged, After 1 or2 days in AC Power, Battery Meter shows "98% available, plugged in not charging". Even replaced the battery with a new one. Still the same problem. if I use the battery for a while less than 95% and if i plugged it in ac power it is charging and shows 100%, fully charged. After two days same problem.
So it is charging, but not holding the charge for some days. Battery replaced with a new one. Laptop is still under waranty.
I am getting 2 hour 20 minutes battery backup.
Would like to know root cause for this problem. Hardware or Vista. If Hardware battery of any other part?

I recently got the dreaded "Plugged in, not charging" message in vista of my Dell XPS 1530.My laptop is out of warranty .I tried all the methods suggested and flashed the bios to A09 from A12.I also checked the BIOS and it says
Battery Charge = 6%
Charger = 90W
Also when I connect the charger the charging light would flash for 5 sec. and then go off.Due to this the battery charge has moved from 6% to 7%.
I cannot buy a new mbd worth $500 . Any other cure for this ????

My Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook is plugged in but will not charge. The battery is completely drained and the power will immediately shut off when the power cable is unplugged. The battery meter indicates "O% Available (plugged in, not charging)". Every time I restart it I am told to plug in a Dell charger with 45 watts or greater. Thinking my charger might have been the issue, I just purchased a Dell replacement charger, and it is still not recognizing it. I have seen on other posts that indicate a possible solution is to update the BIOS; however, when I download and try to run the latest BIOS, I am told that the battery needs to be at least 10% charged in order to update.

my Dell XPS 15z is only ten months old while on my computer last night something popped up saying:
'The AC power adapter type cannot be determined.
Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge.
This problem might be solved by:
Ensure the plug is inserted completely for best system operation. Connect a Dell 130W adapter or higher'
i've always taken really good care of my laptop never dropped it or anything i hope that its not broke...
if it is broken and i have my year warranty do i still pay for whatever new part i need?

i have my computer (win 7) set to high performance. I also keep it plugged it but it hasnt been charging my battery, its down to 35%. Does it have some sort of a cycle function where it waits until the battery is drained and then charges it back up? I dont want it to do this because when i need to use it on the go i would like a full battery.

I've got an HP Compaq nw8240 and when I move the mouse over the battery icon it says Plugged In, Not Charging. It only shows a 40% charge too, and if I unplug the AC adapter the battery will drain and then recharge back to 40% again.
I'm running the latest version of Windows 7 also.
I've also tried updating the BIOS but when I download the file from HP's support site it and run it all it does is restart my computer and nothing changes.

i was having this wierd behavior of my laptop where battery woudnt charge above 6%, ive tried most of the "solutions" on the web, but none of them worked.
-Desinstalling Microsoft's ACPI-Compliant control method battery
-Doing a vista clean install
-Restarting/Removing/Plugging the battery from the laptop with the system running and shut down, and all sorts of combinations between.
-Trying different AC (from dell, some of my friends have got some dell systems, i tried a m1330 AC)
-Tried to find a battery calibrator, but was unsuccesful, and even tried to downgrade my BIOS, but couldnt because my battery wasnt charged above 10% (thats a requisite to flash the BIOS)
NONE OF THOSE WORKED.
So i called dell, they told me to go to the BIOS, tech guys told me that the problem could be figured out there by 2 ways, it'd either:
-Recognize the AC adapter (in due case, it was a battery problem)
-Or it wouldnt recognize it (in which case, it would be a MoBo or a AC adapter problem.
Turned out it recognized the AC adapter, so next step was to send me a new battery, since i had a 6 cell battery (which the dell guy confirmed after i gave him the serial number of the battery) i expected to receive a 6 cell battery replacement, but no, lucky me i received a 9 CELL BATTERY INSTEAD, free within warranty period (system is only 7 months old) so yeah, im happy, and my battery is charging again.
Everything is fine, so i thought i would share this info for you guys.
One thing to get in consideration: The embedded battery health indicator might not indicate that the battery is healthy, since my faulty battery had 5/5 green lights when i tried to check the health but was still faulty (my new one has 5/5 health lights and works wonderful)

Mine is an Inspiron 14z, running window 7 ultimate. The last 2 days, my battery will only charge up to 70% then it just stay there although the icon shows "plugged in, charging".
I've tried a couple things:
-Unplug-plug
-Pull out the battery put it back on.
-Uninstall/ Install Microsoft ACPI-compliant control method battery
-Restore to point before this occur.

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1525 in April 2008.About 1 month ago I noticed that my computer would automaticaly shut down when the power cord was removed, I hovered over the battery icon in the bottom right corner and it said 0% available plugged in, not charging.
I googled the phrase plugged in, not charging and realised lots of people were having the same problem.I have tried restarting and shutting down my computer (with and without battery and with and without power cord) removing and replacing my battery (while laptop is on and off) a replacement battery from Dell my sister's battery and power cord (she also has a 1525)in my laptop and get the message plugged in, not charging. My battery in her laptop will charge but my power cord in her laptop says plugged in, not charging
removing the battery with the laptop on then restarting the laptop and replacing the battery uninstalling and reinstalling the Power Management Software switching between power plans flashing with current bios
All 3 batteries (hers, my original and my replacement) have adequate charge (50% or higher)I run with Windows Vista Home edition.I have been to the local Dell distributer and they tell me to call Dell. I have tried calling Dell but I keep getting put on hold for 30+ minutes.

I have spent two days reading forums & trying to follow suggestions. I have gotten a new battery (prior to finding out it might not be the problem), reconnected the power cord/adapter and did a bios update. Bios still says adapter is "unknown". Battery (new one) reads at 41% (& holding), the old one at 37%. Another way to charge the battery?

My year old XPS 13 Ultrabook's battery is not charging when plugged in. I measured the voltage of the power adaptor at the plug (the end that connects to the Ultrabook) and the voltage level seem fine at 19.4V
However when I plug and unplug the power when the Ultrabook is off, the LED turns on and off accordingly.
My Ultrabook is L321x, running Windows 7, and has BIOS A7 installed.
