View 3 RepliesI have a dell inspiron 15r 5521 laptop. Yesterday when I tried to turn it on it won't boot, even the POST or the BIOS won't show up. I removed the battery and power supply and press down the power button for a long time and repeated it a lot of times too but no luck. I removed the HDD, RAMs and the CMOS battery and kept it that way for 5 mins and put them back in but it was still the same. I noticed that whenever I enter the ac adaptor into the laptop the fan moves for like 100millisecond and the light on the caps lock button lights up for the same amount of time then it all goes silent. Same happens when I press the power button with only the battery inserted.
All what happens when I try to turn it on is that the power indicator light on the laptop turns on(white color, which is the normal color for this laptop), and that's it. The light don't blink or anything at all. No beep sound. The fan, HDD everything remains silent. Only that light stays on until I unplug it from ac and remove the battery. Pressing down the power button doesn't turn it off either. No other indicator light such as the wifi's, hdd's, battery's light doesn't turn on.
I have a DV9000 and just yesterday it started where the screen will go black but I can see what is going on on the screen but it is extremely faint. When I close the lid for a few seconds and open it back up it the screen appears like normal but only for about twenty seconds and then returns to the black. If I hook it up to an external monitor and I can see what is going on.
View 10 Replies View RelatedSo last night my laptop was running fine on battery power, but then it was running low, so I plugged in the power cord. Nothing happened. Since the adapter at the laptop end was falling apart and duct-taped anyways, I figured it was just conking out, but then I saw the indicator light on the power brick was off.
With some experimentation, I found that if I moved it to a different outlet, the light would come back on, but if I plugged it into my laptop, the light would die, and I would have to again move it to a different outlet (the same one as first would work fine) to get the indicator light back on. It works in other Dell laptops. Other adapters do the exact same thing.
So I'm guessing there's a problem with my laptop wiring that's causing a short or something. (Apologies for my shallow electrical knowledge.) But it was working last night on battery power. Until the battery died completely this morning, it would power up. So it's not an electrical problem that kills the laptop.
I have a Dell E4310, about 2 years old. When I connect the charger just to a power socket the green light on the charger comes on but when I plug the other end into the laptop the green light on the charger goes off, I have taken the battery off the laptop and it still does the same thing, and in both cases the laptop will not power up and no light appears on it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've had my laptop for about a three weeks now. Last night, I shut the lid to put it to sleep and went out for a few hours, leaving the lap top plugged in.
When I came home, the laptop wouldn't turn on. I looked online, found to take out the battery, hold the power button down for 30 sec, put the battery back in, then plug it in again, nothing worked.
I left the battery out over night, then did the same thing -- no go.Â
The computer has been plugged in for about an hour now, still nothing.
There are no lights on the laptop itself, the green light is on the AC adapter and I also plugged in the adapter into another computer and it worked with that.
Running on Windows 7, Inspiron 17 5748 -- still under warranty.
I have a HP Pavilion M6-1045DX laptop and I recently tried to plug it into a display through the Analog RGB and I saw a spark and the laptop shut off. During that time I ran the laptop straight from the AC adapter without a battery because I don't really use it.So the laptop shut off and I tried turning it back on and nothing happened. The charge indicator light turned off even though it was still plugged in. I thought maybe the power adapter stopped working or something but I tested it with a voltmeter and there was still power in it.
So I decided to put the battery in and the laptop was able to turn on, but after a while, this one area that i never felt heat there before was really hot and later smelled like something was burning. But anyway, when it booted up, the screen resolution was really low and was on maximum brightness. When the laptop finished booting, it randomly started installing drivers (such as the WLAN and intel rapid storage) and yeah. Sound doesn't work either. I tried to plug the laptop back in and the battery won't charge.I turned it off and took out the battery and tried running it off from the AC adapter only but the power light was blinking constantly and when I press it, the WiFi button light (F12) turned on for a second and back off. I also hear this high frequency noise that I never heard before somewhere in the laptop.
My laptop wont turn on, whenever I press the power button all the lights light up for about a second, I here the fans turn on and then it shuts off. When I plug the charger in the the charger light blinks, but thats it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to upgrade a few things on my HP DV9743cl and I am having some problem finding out if the factory components will support the possible upgrades.
Processor:
T7250 ---> T9900
RAM:
3gb PC2-5300 ---> 4gb PC2-6400
I've actually purchased the PC2-6400 ram, but I'm curious if it'll actually run at this performance or stay at the PC2-5300 performance level after the install.
GPU:
NVIDIA GF 8600M GS ---> NVIDIA GF ?
Can this even be done since the GPU is integrated?
HD:
2x 160gb (which I think are at 5400 rpm) ---> 1x SSD Intel x25-M 80gb for the OS and a 10,000rpm HD for secondary
Currently running Windows 7 32bit after a clean install.
The back of the dv9000 has some slits for airflow, and there are also slits on the bottom of the unit. Because the airflow is so weak, I can't detect by feel which way the air is actually flowing.
Does air enter from the bottom and get exhausted out the back? Or Does air enter from the back and get exhausted out the bottom?
My as-yet-to-be-made cooler's fans will be mounted below the slits on the bottom of the notebook. Therefore, it's important to know if the fans should blow air onto the bottom of the notebook or if they should pull air away from the bottom of the notebook. This is crucial because if the cooler's fans are installed blowing air in the wrong direction, they could actually force hot air back into the notebook!
how to turn off the logo light? Cause my notebook's cover is facing the wall, no point for it to light up..

View 5 Replies View RelatedI broke the hinge of the laptop's lcd. I replace the hinge, there was a cable that was broken, I realize that cable was not related to the lcd since it was connect to the wireless network chip.
I made sure all the lcd cable are plug in the laptop motherboard.
On the back of the lcd, there was white tape and it said do not touch, I accidentally touch this by mistake. I don't know if this is really serious.
Now, the laptop does not have any picture, but the light is on, the lcd has a grayish color, its like its about to load, but no image comes up.
This issue occurred during the hinge breaking.
I hope I didn't break the lcd.
Model is dv2037us.
The laptop is fine if I hook it up to a monitor via vga port.
.After I push power button, one of 3 lock lights, the A lock  flashes blue, and a steady blue power light occurs to right of keboard, for about 5-7 seconds, then turns off after a soft high pitched beep.. The computer did get hot before this occurred. Tried getting new power cord because old one was not correct one. Tried booting up with and without battery & did not work.  Screen never comes up.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Compaq 2230S business laptop, but this question could be put to any HP laptop. The fan is constantly running when the laptop is plugged into the power outlet, but as soon as I pull the plug to run on battery power the fan powers down and stops. I re-plug the laptop back in and the fan kicks up again.
This is not good as I almost burned myself when I picked up the laptop after an hour sitting on the table on battery power. The hard drive is right beside the processor, so the laptop gets really hot.
Vista x64 Ultimate is what I'm using at the moment and my power scheme calls for 1% minimum and 100% maximum CPU on battery power.
I run into my 1st issue in 4 years of ownership. when I turn on my computer (pavillion dv8305) it turns off while booting. Now my battery has been dead for like 2 years but I always have it plugged in anyway when using it. Let's just say if it can't be fixed to turn on how can I access my info on the hdd? I have documents and some files/programs I need.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy mother was having some trouble with her laptop, and I was wondering if you guys had an idea of what the problem could be. Basically, it won't turn on, even with the battery plugged into the wall. It is completely unresponsive. The last time she used it was last night, and she said that when she was done, she left it on with the screen down and the battery plugged in.

I can't go into the bios because I have no screen. The screen remains black. The harddrive appears to be working and all other functions appear to be working but I am not sure because I have no screen.

Is this a known issue with the Compaq Presario CQ60?

My not too-old XPS L502X will not turn on. The battery indicator still has a single light remaining when pressed. When I plug in the power adaptor (blue light on power adaptor is on at this point) the blue light goes off.
Have tried in multiple plugs, same thing happens.
Have tried taking out battery and replacing, holding down power button for 30 seconds.
Laptop: Dell Inspiron 1564
OS: Windows 7 Home
Problem: Does not turn on.
Cause: Was working fine until last night when I shut it down, did not turn on when I tried to turn it on later in the morning. No known cause.
Details: My laptop does not turn on in anyway - with charger put on or without charger.
It was working fine when I shut it down the other night but when I tried to turn it on in the morning, nothing happened. When I press the power-on button, just battery light (of the 3 lights on laptop) glows for a while and then it goes off as well. Other than that, nothing happens at all. I have tried taking the battery out and putting it in, plugging ang unplugging AC - nothing works.
I left the laptop unattended whole day and when came back, I tried to turn it on and the battery and power lights both glowed this time and continued glowing but screen was blank and no sound nothing happened for a few minutes and then I powered it off. Tried to turn on again, nothing happened, back to old problem as stated earlier i.e. only the battery light glows for a while and then goes off ....
Hitting Fn and the Keyboard back light button will Cycle the settings, Off, Dim, Bright.
But they use to turn off after about a minute of no use. Now they will stay on indefinitely. I wonder what could be causing this since I have not done anything to the system.
When I set the Power options to have the Screen turn off after a Minute the screen dims and turns off, But the Keyboard remains Lit.
This morning, my Inspiron 3721 (18 months old) failed to turn on. Â Worked fine last night.
Symptoms: on pressing power button, only power light illuminates, but no other noises, no fans, no screen response.
Have removed battery, removed power lead, held down power button for 50 seconds. Â Reconnected battery & power lead, but no change to above behaviour.
Tried a different power lead but no change to above.
