I have been pondering whether my Studio 1537 came with a LED backlit screen since Dell didn't include a Centrino 2 sticker although all of my laptop hardware meets the req. for Centrino 2. Who knew what else Dell could pull?
I decided to fire up my Studio 1537, Inspiron E1505, and Mini 9 to do a comparison with the LCD backlight on full power with Notepad maximized (lots of white).
The E1505's LCD was about a year old and is CCFL. The Mini 9 and Studio 15 are brand new and both were advertised to have LED backlighting.
The E1505 looked dim and yellow compared to the Studio 15's CRISP white color, while the Mini 9 had an almost purple tint to the white screen. I work with white light a lot and can say the E1505's LG CCFL was around 4000-4300K for color temperature while the Studio 15 was more around 5800K and the Mini 9 at 6200K or slightly higher.
The problem with white LED's is that they have a shorter lifespan (~20,000 hours) compared to red, blue, and green (usually 100,000 hours). This translates to noticeable decrease in white light output after 2.3 years of non-stop 24/7 usage.
Another major difference I observed is that the CCFL at max brightness is equivalent to the LEDs at about 40-50% brightness!
I'm looking to buy a M1530 LED WXGA+ screen (1440x900). I currently have the stock 1280x800 CCFL. I have some question that I'm hoping some of you would be able to answer:
Will the LED screen fit normally within the stock CCFL backing/bezel?
I'm looking at screen descriptions, for the LED's I don't see "inverters" listed as included but in some, though not all CCFL have it mentioned in the description, is this something that's no longer required? or is it built into the panel?
What is a good price for these panels? The panel I'm looking at is a Glossy 1440x900 LED screen for $205CAD with shipping and taxes included. Good price? bad? Is it possible to get it cheaper?
Concerning batterylife, I have a 9cell and am averaging of 3.5-4hrs of usage with wifi on and screen in one level just before full brightness on Power save mode. Will I see a very noticable increase in battery life? I keep hearing people spout "30%" are there any actual tests?
I currently have an Inspiron 1720 with WUXGA (1920x1200) display. I'm looking at the Studio 17, which comes with either WXGA+ (1440x900) CCFL or WLED, or WUXGA+ (1920x1200) CCFL
I recently had my screen replaced by dell dispatch for my studio XPS 1340. My hinges were loose, instead of replacing just the hinges dell dispatch had replaced the whole screen. My question is can you tell a difference between CCFL and LED. My specs is LED I just want to make sure the technician, replace with the right screen. Is LED thinner than CCFL if so what is the technical spec of thickness between the two. Is there a way to check if you have a 1.3 or 2.0 webcam.
There was a discussion on this subject before but I can't find it. Currently I own XPS 1330 with nVidia GPU and LED screen. My GPU died a while ago, was replaced.
After that I applied copper mod. But it will die some time in future again. So I'm thinking to replace my mobo with one that has integrated GPU.
A month ago I received my new laptop from Dell. After a short inspection I discovered that instead of 2 HDDs only one was appearing in device manager.
After a bios check that confirmed that only one HDD was installed I called Dell Support. The person allowed me to open the laptop and to my surprise there were 2 HDDs but one of them was not fixed with screws and it was able to move freely inside.
Those from Dell decided to replace my laptop and one week later I received a new one .....
I like repairing laptops as a hobby. I recently bought a M1330 laptop without a screen and with a small video card problem. The laptop still worked on external screen, but showed some lines.
This was due to the NVidia gpu problem. I managed to fix it by using a hot air soldering station(Youtube video). To decrease the chance that it arrises again, I also did the copper mod(description). This meant that I could finally use the laptop for my work if I could just install a LCD screen.
Since I have spend quite some time on repairing the laptop already, I decided to invest some additional money to upgrade from a CCFL to a LED backlit LCD. I ordered a new cover, screen and LED LCD cable.
When I assembled all the parts, everything fits perfectly .....
So dell replaced my m1330 with a SXPS 1340, but they did not have any LED ones available, so they sent a CCFL.
They agreed to swap it with the WLED screen. My question is, is the casing different for the CCFL and WLED like it is on the m1330? I know the LED casing is thinner on the m1330.
I have an M1330 with LED and love the display. I came across such a good deal for a refurb Studio XPS 13 that i could not pass it up - (P8800, 4GB, 500GB 7200rpm, 512MB N10M-GS,
Wireless 1510, Bluetooth 370 for $875 shipped). Only problem is that it has a CCFL screen instead of LED.
Will the difference be really noticeable? Am i going to regret it?
The screen went extremely dim permanently one day when the battery reached its near absolute low. For some reason the screen came back to a brightly lit life after a system restore. The same problem occurred again and sadly after sitting on it a few weeks I did not have a restore point old enough to troubleshoot with the same solution.
Now I'm not sure if system restore really had anything to do with the monitor crapping out because I've never heard of such a scenario, but I'm just going to throw it out there on the off chance that it does .....
I've just bought and installed a touchscreen into my Dell XPS M1330 ! I'm connecting it by using a usb cable, from the wlan case of my fomputer, so it's not a good solution for me. I searched the web to find an other usb connexion, inside my computer, and I wanted tu use the USB wires of the WWAN card (I don't have it). I've used a blank mini pcie card tu solder the usb cables, but I didn't succeed to make it seen by Windows. So, do you know if ther is anything to do to enable the WWAN port ?
I just ordered a Latitude E6400 from the outlet but I won't be able to open it for another month. Is it ok to leave the laptop inside the box for that long?
However the screen seems to be slightly off center? What I am talking about is inside the "edge to edge glass", the screen (the pixels you see lit up), is just ever so slightly tilted.
The pixels start about a 1mm (or maybe 0.5mm) lower on the top left corner of the screen than the top right.
I went to Best Buy to look at a Studio 15 model. I noticed the surface around the mousepad where you rest your wrists....
It was warm and it felt really soft...almost a bit sticky soft. Is that because of the clear finish? I'd rather have a smooth surface than a soft sticky one.
Could this have been an anomily or would my model be like this if I bought one?
This is a very strange one , I have a Studio 17, and it has never had any kind of noises coming from the inside, however, in the past few weeks I have been hearing beeps that are coming from inside the laptop not from the speakers. Its a single beep, and does not have a pattern such as beep every 4 or 5 seconds it beeps when it feels like beeping, usually one short beep.
I called Dell, and the tech guy told me that beeping was " normal " and I should not be concerned over it. Can you believe that jerk? "beeping sounds from inside are normal "? I dont think so.
I have tried to think of anything inside this thing that can beep or why I would be getting these beeps and I cant come up with a thing. Originally I thought it was possibly a CMOS battery going bad, but Dell says the battery wont make it beep, then I thought maybe its overheating, but then when I feel the laptop its' barely warm, so Im at a loss.
This beeping is intermittent, it will beep for a while, then stop, then later on or the next day it might beep again for a few hours then stop again.
Anyone have any suggestions on what could beep from inside the laptop? the sound seems to be right near where the hard drives are located if I put my ear to the touchpad area I think thats the area it originates in.
I recently got Mac mini thru Microcenter deal for $399. It is previous generation Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz Mac mini with 1GB RAM + 120GB HDD + Superdirve. It comes with iLife 08. I'm thinking of buying Mac Box set to get ilife 09 + iWork09 (figured this would be cheaper than getting them separate). Does anyone know what comes inside box ? I already have 10.5.6 installed on Mini so dont need that. Will I be able to sell OS X 10.5.6 from Mac Box set and reduce my cost or all comes on one disc and within one package instead of 3 separate boxes withing one box.
I just want to know if Dell fixed the problem with their new screens, i am having some dust particles in the lower left hand corner..
i called Dell and after arguing with the rep, he said they will send me a box and i have to ship the Laptop to them for a screen replacement. The rep was saying that this was due because i dropped the laptop and cracked the screen, this is ridiculous because the laptop has been sitting on my desk and never been dropped.
Anyway, i just want to know if they fixed the new screens, because if they don't i can wait because the replacement screen will have to be replaced again in few months..........
I play a video game, and my fps will go from 70-80fps, then just SPIKE to like 2fps and I will get artifacts.. I figured it was a display driver, I've tried probably 20-30 of them now (just random vista 32 bit drivers), all with the same results. When I monitor my task manager I'm using 100% of my CPU Usage, and around 1gig of ram while a game is running. I am trying to figure out 1) what the deal is and 2) how to resolve it...
Here are my specs:
Dell Inspirion 9400 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T7200 @ 2.00GHz 2.00GHz 2046MB RAM Vista 32-bit Operating System NVIDIA Geforce Go 7900 GS
-Moonlight white -Vista 64bit -P8600 2.4Ghz or I can up it to the P8700 2.53Ghz -4 GB Ram -320 GB Hard Drive 5400 RPM -512MB Nvidia GeForce G 105M -14.1" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP LED BrightView Widescreen (1280 x 800) LED for better battery life. -Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth -High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
I was wondering what you all think about this set up, or if I should tweak anything with like the processor.
Also how does this laptop run in your experience. Hot or loud? What does it score on performance index with these specs if anyone has them? Are there any concerns I should know about or tips. Like does the optical drive pull out if not using to save weight or add another hard drive? Maybe even steer me to another direction if you would like.
Also I have never owned a laptop before, but my friends use an external monitor when home. What do you all think about getting one?
This laptop will be for everything, school, entertainment, causal games.
my question is, it is safe to update the BIOS from inside the Windows 8? I am ask because in the past my previous laptop, burned the motherboard of the laptop, because the bios update through the windows it was failed.
I've recently purchased the Dell XPS 14 ultrabook and it is probably just about two months old now. Everything was so perfect until just yesterday the laptop started to make a quiet fast-paced clicking noise inside it. I don't know where it is coming from but all I know is that the noise is definitely inside the laptop. It starts usually about 2-3 minutes after turning the laptop on and then lasts for about 1-3 minutes. Is this normal? And is there a way to stop this noise? I know its just something little but I just think it's not normal to have this problem for such a new laptop.
I have bought the Aspire 5738G over half a year ago and it was just a couple of days back from now, when Everest showed me a hardware report about an integrated Intel 4500MHD onboard, which is inactive.
I couldn't find any info on this matter online, so I thought that with your help and my readiness to disassemble my laptop, we could figure out a way to make use of this integrated chip, which would result in serious power savings when running on battery.
I am thinking that maybe there is some place in the circuitry that was cut in order to disable the chip or something, or that it has no access to the LCD and HDMI ports.
Also, I downloaded a Service Manual for my model and I couldn't find my 5738G specification in it.
I was about to Order FW490 from sonyStyle but while i'm searching about it i found this forum and the upcoming FW590
this is my customization.:

now as i read here maybe at 10/20 or 10/27, SonyStyle will but FW590 online!, but don't know will be for Ready or just "Coming Soon"?
Do you think FW590 deserve the waiting and i should cancel the idea of buying this? I hope the FW590 is same price and the FW490, and also i get tired of thinking about the LCD in the FW590 will be LED or not which is like FW490?
