Dell Latitude D600 :: It Is Charging When AC Adapter Is Plugged In
Apr 5, 2013
I just bought a dell latitude d600 and I have never had a laptop before. Is there a way to tell if it is charging when the ac adapter is plugged in? I bought it for parts or not working and I,m trying to put it back together. I also have been looking for an ide hard drive for the caddy. I didn't know if you could change that to s sata drive or not.
There seems to be a bug in the A06 BIOS update for the Latitude D600. The power supply that shipped with the machine is Model AA22850 for the PA-12 family. This power supply charged the battery fine when I received the computer. I updated the BIOS recently to A06 version and then started receiving a BIOS error upon boot up saying that it did not recognize the power supply. I replied to the error message and went into the BIOS setup and sure enough the battery status was not showing as charging. There green charging LED no longer was lit up and upon going into Windows and looking in the Power options in control panel the battery was not showing charging as well.
We happened to have a power supply for a Latitude D800 at the office and I plugged it in and it started charging the battery immediately. I also did not receive a BIOS error on boot either. That power supply is for the PA-10 family and has more current output. Evidently this new A06 BIOS is looking for that power supply. So....I have to get a larger power supply to have my system now charge.Â
I just had a battery replacement for my Dell XPS 15z.. Prior to the installation of the new battery, the machine could only work with the AC adapter plugged in, raising the suspicion that the battery was defective. However, now that a new battery has been installed, the battery does not charge even whiles the AC adapter is stilled plugged in.
So, I've had a dead battery on my Inspiron N5010 that would not hold a charge. I also noticed that when i plug in the Dell 65W AC adapter that came with my computer without the battery (as a temporary power source) and the light on the AC Adapter shut off. I've used other dell AC adapters and the same thing happens (AC adapter light cut off). Identifying these problems, I purchased a new battery and the battery worked perfectly fine but when i plug in the AC Adapter, the AC Adapter light would cut off and would not charge the battery. I figured it was a Mobo issue but discovered that the I/O ports for the AC Adapter are on the daughterboard. I purchased and replaced the daughterboard. I plugged in the AC Adapter and now the light on the Adapter stays on. The adapter can now be used with or without the battery but it will not charger the battery. Every time I turn on my Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop, I get the following message:
"The AC adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for the best system performance."
- I replaced the I/O circuit board (daughter board)
- I Flashed the BIOS
- I Installed Dell QuickSet
- I am using the 65W Dell AC adapter that came with the laptop
- The AC adapter that came with my N5010 works on other Dell laptops
- I've used a different 65W Dell AC Adapter.Â
- The adapter is not charging the battery (Plugged in but not charging)
- The green light on the adapter stays on all the time when in use
Inside of the BIOS the AC Adapter Type is "Unknown". what else do you recommend I do?
I recently came to the same fate, Recently had my battery replaced by Dell which was wonderful n the mess up part is that I cannot get it charged on my Latitude E6420.
My flashing problem started when I had a power failure in my area while i had my note book on charge. I cant do anything without having to keep my notebook on charge. i doesnt start up without it being plugged in now n it doesnt even charge my new replacement battery.Â
I have the charger from here brought as a replacement for the original one, but when I plug it - the laptop works, but the battery it's not charging. The battery is 6-7 months old, was pretty good - lasts for more than an hour and a half, but it's not charging now.I have tried to enter the bios and stay there for about 2 hours but the battery does not charge..Or the charger it's not the good one?Â
My D620 suddenly stopped working with an AC adaptor, won't charge the battery, won't operate without the battery. I have several AC adaptors and none of them work now. However, when docked the ac works fine and the battery charges with no issue.Â
I have had my Dell Inspiron 1525 for around two years. For the past month, when my power supply is plugged in, the battery does not charge. It has been stuck on 3% and will automatically shut down when unplugged.
I have seen that this is a very common problem, however, when hovering over the battery icon it says: plugged in, CHARGING, where as all of the other posts that I have seen say: plugged in, NOT charging.
I have tried taking the battery out and restarting but this did not work. I also drained my battery and tried to recharge but again, this did not work. My initial thought is that I may need a new battery but I just wanted to check first.Â
I have just encountered a problem with my Inspiron 7520 laptop. The laptop is plugged in and notes 'charging'. Problem is that it is not charging and battery has been at 0% for a week now.Â
Battery meter notes the battery is charging and that the battery is working normally. I have run the 'My Dell' systems test and it failed on the battery with error code WBT02-GX1...
I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 and my friend has a Latitude D820.
Tonight she accidentally plugged my power adapter into her laptop. A few hours later, she noticed that her laptop indicated that it wasn't plugged in, and that's when we realized that she had accidentally used my adapter instead of hers.
Now my adapter doesn't work at all. We've tried the adapter with both our laptops with different outlets with the same problem, so we know it's the adapter. The green light also doesn't come on when it's plugged in anymore.
Did plugging my adapter into her laptop somehow screw up my adapter, or could this just be a coincidence? Is there any way to fix the adapter or at least figure out what the problem is? And if I have to purchase a new adapter, do the universal ones they sell at retail electronics stores work OK? I would order one from Dell but I'm working on a project now and I don't have time to wait for it to ship.
I was checking my email then all of the sudden, I got Dell's BSOD. I restarted it, when I got into desktop, BSOD again. So I decided restore (clone, I used it 2 times before this happened). The restoration was successful, but when I boot it up, after Windows logo, nothing, blank screen. So I did it again, restoring it. But again, blank screen. Then I decided to do a fresh clean install of XP, but when I tried to delete that partition, BSOD. I booted up again from the XP CD, I found it had been deleted. So I made a new partition, and format it (NTFS - slow method), but when it got into the middle of copying the files, it said it can't copy the files.
In the moment, I am formatting the hard drive into massive one, instead of two partition. I doubt it that it will work.
What's the problem with my Dell Latitude D600?
Do you think that's the hd?
Just FYI, before this happen, I was thinking of upgrading the hd into bigger hd.
Edit: Yup, it failed. Btw, my D600 is at least 5 years old, original hd.
I ordered as a replacememnt drive a 'Dell ND6650A cdrw/dvdrw' Manufactured by NEC off Ebay which according to Dell is compatible with my D600 Latitude - they still have the driver updates on support etc.
I receive the package this morning and it aint going to fit in a million years !! So my question is, is there a fitting / adapter kit for this model to fit my D600
The unit does not power ON using the AC adapter, no LED lights. I tried using a different working AC adapter from a 600m and didn't work either.
Then I installed a charged battery pack from the 600m into the D600 bay and it power on just fine.
I googled the issue and one suggestion is that the DC power jack could be toast, so I bought a new one over at DCpowerjacks.net I have it replace by a professional, and after I reassembled the machine the problem persists.
Does anyone know why my Latitude D600 won't play back-up (burnt) dvds, but it plays the original disc? When I put in the burnt disc I hear a clicking sound, but nothing else happens.
I have been trying to use burnt -R discs and dual layer discs; these discs play on other dvd players. Should my laptop plays these discs? And if so why doesn't it? I believe it still has the original drive in it; I bought the laptop second hand.
I just got BT Infinity and whenever I download something or run speed test (speedtest.com) my computer disconnects from the internet and shortly after connects again. How do i fix this? I am running a dell latitude d600 with windows xp. Before bt infinity i just had a normal bt home hub and that worked fine. I don't think this is happening on other computers connected to the network but i can't be sure. I am using Wi-Fi, not ethernet and i haven't tried connecting via ethernet yet but the hub is in a different room and i cant move anything from room to room because of the set up.
A previous answer i got was to re intall my wireless router. I thought this had worked, but it only suspended the time before the disconnect for about 1 min. Then it just went back to disconnecting straight away again.
I have a Dell Latitude D600 which i bought a few months ago second hand, It came with charger and thats it. No recovery disk or nothing. Laptop worked perfect and is a really good laptop. However I have so many viruses on my laptop, I have ran all types of AVG's, adware scanners, and much more. Its cleared alot of the viruses but still the laptop is not working properly.
I would like to restore the laptop back to its factory settings, i have backed up all my data on an external harddrive so its all good. I checked on google and it says something about Pressing F11 + Ctrl or something like that and it has a recovery procedure in the laptop allready. I dont think D600 has that feature and guessing i need a recovery disk. I have looked on ebay and cant find any, Im not even sure what type of recovery disk to get because i found a few, prices were ranging from £30-35 and i cant afford that as i am a student.
Is there a way where i can download some sort of recovery software for dell and burn it onto a disk or something, I looked on google but there is no detailed sources telling me about this,
how i can restore my dell latitude D600 back to its brand new settings without having to buy the recovery disk.
i have a number of Dell D600 latitude laptops in the organisation, all identicial. Strange thing is that one of them will not work with the docking station, any Docking station to think of it. this is the error message i get " Your power adapter does not supply enough power to run the attached docking station" press F1 to shut down
I recently got the dreaded "Plugged in, not charging" message in vista of my Dell XPS 1530.My laptop is out of warranty .I tried all the methods suggested and flashed the bios to A09 from A12.I also checked the BIOS and it says
Battery Charge = 6% Charger = 90W
Also when I connect the charger the charging light would flash for 5 sec. and then go off.Due to this the battery charge has moved from 6% to 7%.
I cannot buy a new mbd worth $500 . Any other cure for this ????
My Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook is plugged in but will not charge. Â The battery is completely drained and the power will immediately shut off when the power cable is unplugged. Â The battery meter indicates "O% Available (plugged in, not charging)". Â Every time I restart it I am told to plug in a Dell charger with 45 watts or greater. Â Thinking my charger might have been the issue, I just purchased a Dell replacement charger, and it is still not recognizing it. Â I have seen on other posts that indicate a possible solution is to update the BIOS; however, when I download and try to run the latest BIOS, I am told that the battery needs to be at least 10% charged in order to update.
I have a dell xps m1530. Yesterday, suddenly a problem developed. The laptop charges for a few secs and then the battery icon says plugged in, not charging. I have tested the power supply and the adapter pin on the laptop motherboard its working fine. I purchased the laptop 4 months ago. i am using windows vista Ultimate with sp1.
i am using dell inspiron 15R 5521.. its warranty has just expired on november 3,2014. And now i am facing this charging problem as whenever i connect my charging adapter(charger) to my laptop, it says 'PLUGGED IN BUT NOT CHARGING'. whether i just keep my laptop on charging for an hour or two, it still remains the same and not even a single percent of battery is charged.!! Whether there is some problem with my battery or charger!! i should buy a new battery or not??
i was having this wierd behavior of my laptop where battery woudnt charge above 6%, ive tried most of the "solutions" on the web, but none of them worked.
-Desinstalling Microsoft's ACPI-Compliant control method battery
-Doing a vista clean install
-Restarting/Removing/Plugging the battery from the laptop with the system running and shut down, and all sorts of combinations between.
-Trying different AC (from dell, some of my friends have got some dell systems, i tried a m1330 AC)
-Tried to find a battery calibrator, but was unsuccesful, and even tried to downgrade my BIOS, but couldnt because my battery wasnt charged above 10% (thats a requisite to flash the BIOS)
NONE OF THOSE WORKED.
So i called dell, they told me to go to the BIOS, tech guys told me that the problem could be figured out there by 2 ways, it'd either:
-Recognize the AC adapter (in due case, it was a battery problem) -Or it wouldnt recognize it (in which case, it would be a MoBo or a AC adapter problem.
Turned out it recognized the AC adapter, so next step was to send me a new battery, since i had a 6 cell battery (which the dell guy confirmed after i gave him the serial number of the battery) i expected to receive a 6 cell battery replacement, but no, lucky me i received a 9 CELL BATTERY INSTEAD, free within warranty period (system is only 7 months old) so yeah, im happy, and my battery is charging again.
Everything is fine, so i thought i would share this info for you guys.
One thing to get in consideration: The embedded battery health indicator might not indicate that the battery is healthy, since my faulty battery had 5/5 green lights when i tried to check the health but was still faulty (my new one has 5/5 health lights and works wonderful)
Mine is an Inspiron 14z, running window 7 ultimate. The last 2 days, my battery will only charge up to 70% then it just stay there although the icon shows "plugged in, charging".Â
I've tried a couple things:
-Unplug-plug
-Pull out the battery put it back on.
-Uninstall/ Install Microsoft ACPI-compliant control method battery
