Hard drive samsung HM121HC
That seems like a really slow place, since I have already ordered a drive last Friday off Amazon, based upon what I have read on this site:
1 of Samsung Spinpoint M Series HM160HC 160GB PATA-100 5400RPM Laptop/Notebook Hard Drive - OEM
The outstanding question, I suppose, is wondering if this drive is going to work because it exceeds 120 GB. I also read around here of a larger drive being used than what another model's BIOS supported, where it just recognized as much as it could, so that wasn't a problem (there).
It's a Latitude D600. Its a 160 GB PATA drive. I got it for $75 w/o shipping.
At the dell forums, the thread is still there, and its the only post I've put there, but they say now that my email address is not in their database?
This site is 1000 times that one for me so far.
I was checking my email then all of the sudden, I got Dell's BSOD. I restarted it, when I got into desktop, BSOD again. So I decided restore (clone, I used it 2 times before this happened). The restoration was successful, but when I boot it up, after Windows logo, nothing, blank screen. So I did it again, restoring it. But again, blank screen.
Then I decided to do a fresh clean install of XP, but when I tried to delete that partition, BSOD. I booted up again from the XP CD, I found it had been deleted. So I made a new partition, and format it (NTFS - slow method), but when it got into the middle of copying the files, it said it can't copy the files.
In the moment, I am formatting the hard drive into massive one, instead of two partition. I doubt it that it will work.
What's the problem with my Dell Latitude D600?
Do you think that's the hd?
Just FYI, before this happen, I was thinking of upgrading the hd into bigger hd.
Edit: Yup, it failed. Btw, my D600 is at least 5 years old, original hd.
I ordered as a replacememnt drive a 'Dell ND6650A cdrw/dvdrw' Manufactured by NEC off Ebay which according to Dell is compatible with my D600 Latitude - they still have the driver updates on support etc.
I receive the package this morning and it aint going to fit in a million years !!
So my question is, is there a fitting / adapter kit for this model to fit my D600
The unit does not power ON using the AC adapter, no LED lights. I tried using a different working AC adapter from a 600m and didn't work either.
Then I installed a charged battery pack from the 600m into the D600 bay and it power on just fine.
I googled the issue and one suggestion is that the DC power jack could be toast, so I bought a new one over at DCpowerjacks.net
I have it replace by a professional, and after I reassembled the machine the problem persists.
Does anyone know why my Latitude D600 won't play back-up (burnt) dvds, but it plays the original disc? When I put in the burnt disc I hear a clicking sound, but nothing else happens.
I have been trying to use burnt -R discs and dual layer discs; these discs play on other dvd players. Should my laptop plays these discs? And if so why doesn't it? I believe it still has the original drive in it; I bought the laptop second hand.
I just got BT Infinity and whenever I download something or run speed test (speedtest.com) my computer disconnects from the internet and shortly after connects again. How do i fix this? I am running a dell latitude d600 with windows xp. Before bt infinity i just had a normal bt home hub and that worked fine. I don't think this is happening on other computers connected to the network but i can't be sure. I am using Wi-Fi, not ethernet and i haven't tried connecting via ethernet yet but the hub is in a different room and i cant move anything from room to room because of the set up.
A previous answer i got was to re intall my wireless router. I thought this had worked, but it only suspended the time before the disconnect for about 1 min. Then it just went back to disconnecting straight away again.
I just bought a dell latitude d600 and I have never had a laptop before. Is there a way to tell if it is charging when the ac adapter is plugged in? I bought it for parts or not working and I,m trying to put it back together. I also have been looking for an ide hard drive for the caddy. I didn't know if you could change that to s sata drive or not.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Latitude D600 which i bought a few months ago second hand, It came with charger and thats it. No recovery disk or nothing. Laptop worked perfect and is a really good laptop. However I have so many viruses on my laptop, I have ran all types of AVG's, adware scanners, and much more. Its cleared alot of the viruses but still the laptop is not working properly.
I would like to restore the laptop back to its factory settings, i have backed up all my data on an external harddrive so its all good. I checked on google and it says something about Pressing F11 + Ctrl or something like that and it has a recovery procedure in the laptop allready. I dont think D600 has that feature and guessing i need a recovery disk. I have looked on ebay and cant find any, Im not even sure what type of recovery disk to get because i found a few, prices were ranging from £30-35 and i cant afford that as i am a student.
Is there a way where i can download some sort of recovery software for dell and burn it onto a disk or something, I looked on google but there is no detailed sources telling me about this,
how i can restore my dell latitude D600 back to its brand new settings without having to buy the recovery disk.
My D600 will not boot up unless the power cord is plugged in. Is there some switch that I hit by mistake? Can this be corrected?
I guess basically it doesn't work on the battery unless it is plugged in but the power shows 100 % for the battery
i have a number of Dell D600 latitude laptops in the organisation, all identicial. Strange thing is that one of them will not work with the docking station, any Docking station to think of it. this is the error message i get " Your power adapter does not supply enough power to run the attached docking station" press F1 to shut down
View 7 Replies View RelatedThere seems to be a bug in the A06 BIOS update for the Latitude D600. The power supply that shipped with the machine is Model AA22850 for the PA-12 family. This power supply charged the battery fine when I received the computer. I updated the BIOS recently to A06 version and then started receiving a BIOS error upon boot up saying that it did not recognize the power supply. I replied to the error message and went into the BIOS setup and sure enough the battery status was not showing as charging. There green charging LED no longer was lit up and upon going into Windows and looking in the Power options in control panel the battery was not showing charging as well.
We happened to have a power supply for a Latitude D800 at the office and I plugged it in and it started charging the battery immediately. I also did not receive a BIOS error on boot either. That power supply is for the PA-10 family and has more current output. Evidently this new A06 BIOS is looking for that power supply. So....I have to get a larger power supply to have my system now charge.Â
When I try turning it on the caps lock light blinks 10 times. It doesn't even show the bios screen anymore What could be wrong?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI got a Dell Latitude E4200 with a Samsung SSD PB22-JS3 TM 64GB drive. Does anyone know if its firmware can be upgraded to support TRIM in Windows 7? Current
firmware version is VBM19D1Q. Seems like the version that support TRIM is VBM19C1Q. Doesnt that seem like a downgrade? I've had my notebook since October 2009 so I dont think it has TRIM support from the factory.
Firmware location I think is here: http://www.samsung.com/global/busine.../business.html
I'm still finding my way round my recently acquired D600 laptop and was wondering whether it is likely to be infra red enabled, and how I would find out.
I believe it may have been an optional extra. If it isn't, is it much of a job to add it on. My main reason would be to transfer pictures from my phone, my other alternatives being bluetooth or cable, both of which I've had a bit of trouble with.
I've read reviews, and this laptop seems to have a history of problems. Thing is I'm trading my PSP (original model) with a 4gb memory card for this laptop. So, I couldn't really pass up on the deal it has a 1.4ghz Pentium Centrino processor, 1gb ram, and 100gb hard-drive. I've just been looking for a laptop that will do the basic functions
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Latitude D600 that came with a 60gb hard drive. I had a D600 previous to this one with a 40gb hard drive and I swapped this hard drive into the newer D600 since I had all my important data stored on it already.
Just the other day when I was performing some maintenance on the D600,
I accidentally dropped the 40gb on the floor when it was out of the computer. I thought everything was fine because it seemed to boot up when
I re-installed it, but I hadn't actually tried using it until today
I have a very perplexing problem.
First the laptop is a Dell D600
The laptop about one month ago had the power jack smashed (cable was stepped on) someone plugged the cable back in, in doing so the main power pin (surrounding the center pin) was bent over so it now made contact with the (data) pin that tels the laptop what power supply is connected and if it is a genuine Dell.
This in turn shorted out the circuitry in the laptop that can read this 'data' line.
So no matter what power supply I use the laptop will always state that the wrong adapter is connected and will not charge. (strange also is the PCMCIA slot has no power. Everything thing else works.
What I have tried,
Tried my battery in another D600 (charged and ran no problem (my laptop would run from the battery but still no PCMCIA power.
Tried my charger on another D600 worked fine so the data pin is fine on it. Tried another charger on my laptop same problem.
I already fixed the power port.
Last I tried the laptop in a Docking station and same problem (wrong adapter type) This is fed through the bottom of the laptop not the power jack.
So this tells me the problem lies in the logic circuit on the main board.
So...
Is there a simply surface mount fuse that may have blown?
or am I looking at a bad IC.
So i bought a Seagate 250gig hard drive for my d600 and i cant seem to make it work.
It reads after the dell symbol comes up and then it says that there is no primary drives found and no bootable devices found.
And when i try to run the diagnostic it says the same thing. What am i doing wrong?
I bought the hard drive from Office Depot and the guy didnt tell me about any drivers that i needed to buy or anything.
I have been looking around for the answer to this but I'm still not sure.
I downloaded HwInfo32 and it says my firmware version is "Drive Revision: VBM24D1Q"
And then below it shows "TRIM Command: Supported (Indeterminate Read After TRIM)"
Does this mean mine already has the trim firmware?
i currently have two 1330s... one with LED and one with CCFL
The LED is a toshiba LCD2306, the CCFL an AUO Optronics, the CCFL looks MUCH better which seems to me total nonsense since the LED is supposed to be better in all aspects.
I will be contacting customer service. Should i be asking specifically for the samsung LED?
I was wondering if anyone else has the 128GB Samsung SSD in their Studio XPS 16 and having stuttering issues?. Lately I have been having a lot of stuttering issues in which the mouse cursor freezes up.
Also, anyone running Windows 7 on it? I cant seem to get higher than 5.9 as the HD score under WEI. Anyone got a higher score?
I was wondering if anyone knows whether Dell is shipping Latitudes with anything more recent than the Samsung RBX Series 1 SSDs..

Unfortunately the bios can't see the new SSD even though the 840 should be backward compatible with SATA I and II. The bios revision in my m1330 is A15 and I have tried both ATA mode and ACHI mode without any succes. Tried the drive in another m1330 Â same thing but when trying with a Packard Bell the SSD works fine. Have any of you succesfully added a SSD 840 to your m1330
View 2 Replies View Relatedjust got my new E6400 and I am having a problem with dual external displays. My displays are:
Samsung 204B (20", 1600x1200)
Dell 1708FP (17", 1280x1024)
The problem is the samsung only works using an analog VGA cable. If I even plug in the DVI cable, the samsung will not detect any output from the laptop/dock. I have tried installing the samsing display drivers, but that did not fix the issue. This was not a problem on my old thinkpad T41 that this new dell replaced, so although possible, I doubt the monitor has suddenly developed a bad DVI port.
If I use the Dell as the primary with the samsung hooked up using both cables, I can see two instances of the samsung, it just won't display anything until I pull the DVI cable.
My E6400 has the NVidia NVS 160 card. Running Vista 64 with the 64-bit NVidia drivers from Dell.
I had a 1680x1050 Glossy LCD (SEC3350). I called up and Dell, jumped through the hoops and eventually had them send me a replacement LCD. I called the tech this morning and asked him who manufacturer was, he said LG..
I was ecstatic. In my excitement forgot to check that the sticker on the LCD infact said WXGA+ across the front.
Dell replaced my WSXGA+ screen with WXGA+
The screen quality itself is really good, but there are two things I'd like clarified before I place my replacement order again.
I am planning on buying my Studio XPS 16 as soon as Win7 comes out and i really want a SSD with it. Unfortunately, Dell only sells the Samsung SSD drive which has been getting so much negative press lately on Anandtech.
So my question is, what should i do?!?! Do i give up my dream and instead go with a standard Hard drive for now, or take a chance with the Samsung SSD
my system spec are in the sig and its attached to a t260HD model monitor. When ever i have SLI enabled, yellowy orange colors causer my pixels to shift left and then return to their normal position a the screen refresh rate, so its like they are ion both places at the same time, just blinky for a lack of a better word. Now this does not happen on my regular laptop screen, and when i disable SLI this does not happen either, I just got new 8800m GTX SLI from dell because that was thought to be the problem but its still continues, Ive changed alot of drivers does not seems to be doing anything for me, going to try the tweakforce ones soon. I was thinking maybe my DVI cable is bad? Test that out before i test other monitors. Was just reaching out for any ideas about this problem, would just like my monitor to hands down work =/
OK quick update, now that i have new cards i put the original Dell baddy drivers on and its not doing it..but thats is very strange...why would a driver make an only SLI and only external Monitor issue......and on another note i really cant stay on this driver, i get SLI hitching issues in eq2 with it crysis runs better on single GPU mode, i need to find a driver that does not cause this....also i found a tendency for my white colors to turn yellow on my laptop monitor from drivers at the same time i would be having the tearing if i was on my large monitor, but on the stock one i can close the lid and open it again and the whites go back to the right color...
I can setup my display on my samsung 226bw so that it is the only display and that the internal lcd is turned off. It displays fine at 1680x1050.
However when I restart the laptop and get to windows the signal the laptop seems to send out is 1280x1024 (which the monitor reports). Windows still sets the desktop at 1680x1050 and the result is a desktop that is oversized for the monitor.
I can correct this by turning off the laptop, disconnecting the monitor, restarting the laptop and then reconnecting the monitor.
I can't figure out why it does this?
I have the Dell 1710 with 7900GTX and am using the NBF Mobileforce drivers v169.09 M4 drivers under xp pro.
I have also installed the drivers for the monitor as well.
