Sep 17, 2009We are having to make do and defer hardware purchases. We have tried to add RAM to a Latitude D610 to improve user performance. There is a 2GB stick plus a 512K stick. It seems that A06 (10/12/2005) is the most recent BIOS version. BIOS only recognizes 2GB. Windows recognizes 2.5GB, but states can only use 2GB.
Is there anything that can be done so that it could recognize the 2.5GB or even 4GB ( 2 x 2GB), within the 32 bit windows limitations of course?

Feb 5, 2010The D610 comes with an 11G Mini PCI card with 2 antenna connections. 11N cards have 3 antenna connections. Can I replace the 11G card with an 11N and just connect the 2 antenna wires that are present?

Feb 3, 2013was running xp pro. I have wiped the hard drive and will be installing win xp pro on it.I only know noticed, in bios, that it says the cpu is running at 800 mhz and not at its proper speed of 1.73 ghz. In the bios i set it to default settings and saved it but no luck there. The bios is A06 from 2005 but i have a friend who has the very same laptop and his is running at the correct speed of 1.73 and he has the same bios so i dont thing that is the issue.

Nov 21, 2006I have a Latitude D610 and I had to replace the motherboard and now it shows the incorrect Service Tag, I can not figure out how to put the correct "Service Tag" in to it. I have reviewed many posts here and still no luck. I have tried asset.com and it says tag not correct and Make Sure setup password's are disabled. I really hate to ask but I don't have no where else to turn, and yes the computer is out of warranty.

Mar 1, 2014I have a Dell Latitude E6430 laptop running windows 7 64-bit. When I try to use it with a docking station, the USB ports on the docking station do not work. When I try to use a USB mouse with it, it only works with one of the USB ports. When I try using my printer (HP laserjet 1320) through the USB ports, it doesn't work (it did previously with a Dell latitude E6430 running windows 7 64-bit).
I've installed the latest BIOS upgrade, updated the USB and intel chipset drivers. How do I get these working?

Nov 3, 2014I have just gotten an E7240 computer and have noticed that the USB ports on the back of my computer are disabled when the computer is docked which is a very unfortunate feature of this new computer model. It seems there are many people posting complaints about this feature on the internet. It basically takes a computer that has 3 USB ports and makes two of them rather useless. It is very useful if a USB receiver for keyboard and mouse can be plugged in to the back of the computer so that the mouse can be used easily when docked, but also when the computer is taken off the dock to go to a meeting room. This then leaves the side USB port available for devices such as wireless projectors when in the meeting room. Although this computer was designed to behave this way, I think that most users would agree that this is a critical issue that needs to be seriously considered and fixed by Dell as soon as possible assuming that there is not already a work around available.

Talked with Dell and they sent me a replacement docking station but the same issue surfaced. Looked at the Device Manager and no extra USB ports show up when connected to the docking station. The side laptop USB works fine when the docking station is connected.

Nov 25, 2012I run the BIOS upgrade / update to the version A13 on my Dell Latitude E6410 and after that I found this problems:
. the bios logo on startup takes about to 10 seconds to load (and sometimes freeze and need to restart the machine)
. the boot menu (F12) takes 4 o 5 minutes to load
. the startup of Windows 7 64bits - SP1 takes more than 1 minute to load and some apps works slowly
. the 2 usb ports on the right side doesnt work after the upgrade
Can return to other version of BIOS (I think that the previous version was A08 or A09)?

Apr 6, 2013I use latitude E5530 Now, which have two hidden partition, one is no name, and it is 39MB and it have 100% space didn't use, ( OEM partition). Another one is called Recovery and it as 752MB and it is NTFS format and in the brackets it says system, active, main partition.
So what is the function of those two partition?

Dell :: D610 Won't Power Up
Feb 2, 2010I'm not a native english speaker but I'm trying to explain my problem as accurate as possible.
Since a few months my Dell D610 won't power up regularly when I press the power button. There are no lights visible when the button is pressed as there're no other signs of powering up the harddisk or cpu fan noise etc.
The weird thing about this is that from time to time the machine does power up even instantly. But obviously I can't rely on these random and rare moments. So I tried different scenarios with and w/o battery (battery is charged) with a different power adapter, different power outlets .....
Dell :: D610 Dead Except When In Docking Station
Nov 3, 2009My daughter's D610 slowly died during a 10 week car holiday trip in Northen Australia. From the description of how it gradually happened I assumed it could be bad power connection and eventually the battery failed.
Completely dismantled very carefully and tested the power connector, whilst not perfect I believe the solder joints were acceptable.
When power supplies PA10 or PA12 plugged in directly to the laptop no lights of any kind, with or without battery. Checked with other battery too, same result. The power supplies do deliver right voltage and good under load.
Have a docking station and partly to my surprise with the 95W or PA10 power supply the D610 works fine. With the PA12 or 65W power supply the docking station refuses to work telling you to shut down and replace the power supply.
Ran into a problem when I tried to test with the car power converter, which delievered enough power but was not recognised so docking station again refused. The second D610 I later had to hand allowed the car power to be used but under "protest", warning that performance might be poor. Eventually I got the PA10 which was accepted.
I have a second D610 which works fine on all 3 power supplies. Now having option for swopping parts, I would like to know what I can try to figure out what is causing the power interruption?

It seems as though quite a few people have reported this but I cannot find a definite fix.

Dell Latitude D530 :: Daily Driver Won't Power Up?
Apr 29, 2013Yesterday the system went down unexpectedly and without proper steps. I pressed the power button and it resumed nicely after running chkdsk.
Today it again went down unexpectedly and now will not power up. The green LED on the power cord blinks when plugged in to the laptop (but is steady
if not plugged in to laptop). The laptop is completely dark & quiet.
My battery has been fine but this system is acting the same whether my battery is "inserted" or "removed."
How can I further troubleshoot this without risking damage to my HDD? I have used two different power cords so far (they both do the blinking)
