Dell :: Latitude D800. 745 (1.8Mhz) Vs Fx5650 (128mb) Upgrade
Sep 4, 2009
Recently I just bought(buy) the Intel Pentium M 745(1.8Ghz) chipset & Nvidia GeForce Fx Go5650 (128mb).
My technician did the work to install the new items, but when I get the laptop back I checked it and the GeForce doesnt work properly, FPS from 0-1, my old 32mb video card used to work on low at 25-30FPS at my LFS simulator game racing.
Yesterday my technician download another GeForce 5650 driver and seems works better 50-60FPS at the same game. BUT now the problem is that the Processor Fan start running after 1min of playing and the laptop get freeze, 1-2FPS

Either through Dell or on my own? I have 512MB but for the past year or so I have ALWAYS been over it for whatever reason (I blame Windows Search 4.0) and it's had a pretty negative effect.

It won't boot and shows only lines across the black screen or blurs when HDD is plugged in.
When i remove HDD (any HDD, i've tried three so far), laptop boots to BIOS.

I just found you, glad to be here. I searched for this but came up empty.
Latitude D800, XP Pro:
I have crazy lines and colors on both the laptop screen AND external monitor at the same time. It also is present on both in Safe Mode.
Because it's both I'm thinking the video card is toast. I read that if it was the LCD or the Inverter, the external monitor should display fine.

I think I've bent one of the metal connecting parts on the actual keyboard too, so I think I'll need to replace the whole thing and not just the key.
In either case this key is not getting back on. Do current Dell Latitudes use the same keyboard, or am I going to have a hell of a time finding a replacement?
I took the key off because the button wasn't working, and sure enough there was a big wad of dust/hair blocking it...problem is I think I was too forceful when I removed it.
Notebook is a 2003 model.

I have a Dell Latitude D800 I bought in Summer 2003. I've never really used it away from a power outlet in almost six years of ownership, aside from one time a few weeks ago - when the battery died within 15-20 minutes of powerwing on.
Is it normal for a six year old notebook battery to not hold a charge, even if it's never really been used, and has just been plugged into power (or shut down) constantly throughout the bulk of that time?

My Latitude D800 laptop recently had trouble to turn on. When pressed the power button (no matter how hrad or hard long to press), nothing happened, totally dead, power light didn't turn on at all. I tried with battery (two batteries) only, AC power only and both, same thing, but sometimes it could be turned on when I waited for a while or came back later and tried again.Â

When I switch on my Latitude D800, which I've just fitted with a new hard drive (Samsung), a box telling me that new hardware has been found and  TI ultra media firmware loader device is being installed. All is well until the box disappears and then the system freezes up. I don't get much time to anything and am really struggling with it.

I have a Dell Latitude D800 that will not power on. When the power button is pushed the green power indicator light comes on, the CDROM spins for a moment, but then nothing happens, there is no BIOS information displayed, no power on self test, no Dell logo. It just sits there with the green power light on.I have tried removing the power & battery then pressing the power button for 10 seconds (actually, I have tried as long as 60 seconds). I have tried to turn on with the power connected but not the battery. I have tried removing the connector cable for the power button and the connector cable for the display and then reseating them.

I have a m1330 laptop with a 8400gs graphic card. I want to know if the card can share the memory, because I have 3 gb of ram.
If it can, I can use games that minimum requirements are 256 mb and take the other 128mb from the ram. If it can, will be best to later upgrade to 4 gb of ram?

I have a D800 I haven't used in about 10 monthes. I took it out of the bag and charged the battery.
When I turn it on, it boots approximately one third of the way through the loading bar for the BIOS, and then it powers off.
I've tried it with both the power cable and battery, just power cable, and just battery; and it behaves the same way. Last time I used it, it was working fine.

I have a Latitude D820 with T2500 Yonah, 1024mb ram (2 bank: 512mb), and Quadro NVS 120M "video card." I tried running NFS: Pro Street, and even on the lowest settings and resolution, it lags. I think its time for some upgrades... I have a couple of questions first.
Video Card/GPU: I know the 120m isn't a gaming card, however, the GPU IS a GeForce Go 7400, the same as the fx350m found in the Dell PRECISION M65. How is it that the precision, with the same exact same motherboard as the d820, can run a higher fps on 3d heavy apps? I know that the 120m is "optimized" for 2d drafting, but it doesn't make sense why it would be slower if it is the same gpu on the same motherboard. (excluding drivers and software based overclock).
I guess my questions are,
1.) What's the PHYSICAL difference between the D820 motherboard with the quadro 120M and the M65 with the fx350M?
2.) Is there a gpu bios I can flash to make the gpu optimized for 3d gaming? I don't care what windows recognizes it as, as long as its optimized for 3d. Use m65 bios maybe? How much does bios affect performance in game/app?
3.) What is a safe overclock speed and peak running temp for the gpu in the D820? The defaults are:
Low: Core 200mhtz, mem 400mhtz
High: Core 450 mhtz, mem 700mtz.
and averages 70 deg C idle and peaks 95 deg C load
Ram:
4.) Can the motherboard utilize ddr2-800(pc2-6400) or is it "limited" to ddr2-667(pc2-5300).
5.) The default ram latency is cas 5, 5-5-5-13. Can the mo-bo utilize a cas 4, 4-4-4-12 @333mhtz (ddr2-667)?
I already updated to the newest driver for the video card.

I have a Dell Latitude E6510 that I bought new in 2010. Its only 4 years old, but the HDD I believe is failing as I got this message when I did a Pre-Boot Assessment:
Error Code: 0146
Message Error Code: 2000-0146
My machine did not come with Windows 7 Disks. Is there a way I can backup the Windows OS so that I can get Disks to install on the new HDD I purchase? Or do I have to buy another Windows 7 license?
I have the Windows 7 Repair Disk. Would this get me going to install Windows 7 on a new HDD? I have my original Windows 7 OS License and Dell Backup and Recovery is installed on my machine. I used The Dell Recovery Tool to make a backup media on an external HDD and this is the file structure that was copied:
Boot
Dell
Sources
bootmgr
Are any of these files the Windows 7 OS or how do I get copies?

I keep running into a problem with windows not loading after installing new RAM. I am currently using the original 4GB (2 x 2GB) it came with and I am wanting to go with 8GB (2 x 4GB). I am using the recommended Crucial RAM and I have checked the BIOS which recognizes the new memory. The BIOS is up to date running A16 version. I have not been able to find any settings that would be inhibiting it from running. I have noticed that the currently installed RAM runs a 1067mhz even though it is rated at 1333mhz. As far as I can tell there is no memory remapping feature for the BIOS which does not make sense.
Here is a snap shot of what I have:

Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601)Install Language: English (United States)System Locale: English (United States)Installed: 9/29/2014 3:01:57 PMBoot Mode: BIOS (Secure Boot not supported)

We have a Latitude E6330 that was brought over from Japan running Windows 7 Professional.
The new user wanted teh default language to be English but still be able to use the Japanese characters on the keyboard as needed and so a copy of Windows 7 ultimate was installed on it. This achieved the goal of changing the primary language to English, but due to the fact that this was a US version of Ultimate and the original OS was Japanese, it did not due an upgrade but instead did a new install.
A side effect of this is now several Japanese keys are not recognized by the computer. Is there a driver or something that i will need to install for those keys to be mapped properly? I thought Windows would automatically recognize the Japanese keyboard.

I run the BIOS upgrade / update to the version A13 on my Dell Latitude E6410 and after that I found this problems:
. the bios logo on startup takes about to 10 seconds to load (and sometimes freeze and need to restart the machine)
. the boot menu (F12) takes 4 o 5 minutes to load
. the startup of Windows 7 64bits - SP1 takes more than 1 minute to load and some apps works slowly
. the 2 usb ports on the right side doesnt work after the upgrade
Can return to other version of BIOS (I think that the previous version was A08 or A09)?

The price of 2nd user Latitude D630's seems to be holding up quite well in the UK. Does this indicate that it is still a popular machine and favoured over the E6400?
I briefly checked out an E6400 the other day and for a choice between machines of approximately similar spec I would opt for the D630 rather than the newer E6400.
I would be interested in opinions from users who have experience with both models.

We are looking at getting some Latitude E4310 systems. Since fast boot up to access the web is important, we see that the Latitude On FLASH option is required.
The downside is that Dell will not install this along with the WiMax card option. They have a combo WiFi and WiMax card, but it can not be installed with the FLASH option.
They also list Latitude On ECM as an option instead of On FLASH. The ECM runs $149 more. With ECM, the system can then have the WiMax card which would be nice.
The people at Dell have not been able to provide a good explanation on what the ECM option does. There is a write up on the FLASH option, but not a good one on ECM. Does anyone know what the ECM does differently than the FLASH?
Key points of the FLASH option are (we need these functions):
Boot Fast, 8-10 seconds
Wi-Fi and LAN 10/100/1000
Web access via browser Firefox Browser
Supports Java and Adobe Flash
Read Microsoft Office
Edit Microsoft Office 2000

I've got a choice at the moment between two latitudes:
1) Dell Latitude D630: 2.2ghz C2D, 3Gb RAM, 120gb HDD, dvd/cdrw drive, vista, nvidia Quaddro GFX
2) Dell Latitude E6500: 2.26ghz C2D, 3Gb RAM, 80gb HDD, DVDRW, Vista,
Which do you reckon i ought to go for between the two?
The laptop will be used primarily between home and university, so will be taken between the two places in my shoulder messenger bag, so will probably take a few bumps
