Dell :: Latitude D800 Won't Boot With Hdd Boots W/o
Apr 27, 2009It won't boot and shows only lines across the black screen or blurs when HDD is plugged in.
When i remove HDD (any HDD, i've tried three so far), laptop boots to BIOS.

Either through Dell or on my own? I have 512MB but for the past year or so I have ALWAYS been over it for whatever reason (I blame Windows Search 4.0) and it's had a pretty negative effect.

Can a D800 use a Centino with the 533fsb or is it just the 400fsb....

I just found you, glad to be here. I searched for this but came up empty.
Latitude D800, XP Pro:
I have crazy lines and colors on both the laptop screen AND external monitor at the same time. It also is present on both in Safe Mode.
Because it's both I'm thinking the video card is toast. I read that if it was the LCD or the Inverter, the external monitor should display fine.
Whaddayathink?
I think I've bent one of the metal connecting parts on the actual keyboard too, so I think I'll need to replace the whole thing and not just the key.
In either case this key is not getting back on. Do current Dell Latitudes use the same keyboard, or am I going to have a hell of a time finding a replacement?
I took the key off because the button wasn't working, and sure enough there was a big wad of dust/hair blocking it...problem is I think I was too forceful when I removed it.
Notebook is a 2003 model.
I have a Dell Latitude D800 I bought in Summer 2003. I've never really used it away from a power outlet in almost six years of ownership, aside from one time a few weeks ago - when the battery died within 15-20 minutes of powerwing on.
Is it normal for a six year old notebook battery to not hold a charge, even if it's never really been used, and has just been plugged into power (or shut down) constantly throughout the bulk of that time?
Recently I just bought(buy) the Intel Pentium M 745(1.8Ghz) chipset & Nvidia GeForce Fx Go5650 (128mb).
My technician did the work to install the new items, but when I get the laptop back I checked it and the GeForce doesnt work properly, FPS from 0-1, my old 32mb video card used to work on low at 25-30FPS at my LFS simulator game racing.
Yesterday my technician download another GeForce 5650 driver and seems works better 50-60FPS at the same game. BUT now the problem is that the Processor Fan start running after 1min of playing and the laptop get freeze, 1-2FPS
My Latitude D800 laptop recently had trouble to turn on. When pressed the power button (no matter how hrad or hard long to press), nothing happened, totally dead, power light didn't turn on at all. I tried with battery (two batteries) only, AC power only and both, same thing, but sometimes it could be turned on when I waited for a while or came back later and tried again.

All is well until the box disappears and then the system freezes up. I don't get much time to anything and am really struggling with it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Latitude D800 that will not power on. When the power button is pushed the green power indicator light comes on, the CDROM spins for a moment, but then nothing happens, there is no BIOS information displayed, no power on self test, no Dell logo. It just sits there with the green power light on.I have tried removing the power & battery then pressing the power button for 10 seconds (actually, I have tried as long as 60 seconds). I have tried to turn on with the power connected but not the battery. I have tried removing the connector cable for the power button and the connector cable for the display and then reseating them.

When I turn it on, it boots approximately one third of the way through the loading bar for the BIOS, and then it powers off.
I've tried it with both the power cable and battery, just power cable, and just battery; and it behaves the same way. Last time I used it, it was working fine.
I have open it and found nothing obvious on the solder connection but there must be a weak solder somewhere because when I play with it connected it comes on sometimes.
nyone knows where to find schematic or details of the motherboard in order to know exactly which solder spot to redo
I finally replaced the keyboard on my Latitude D800 - the spacebar stopped functioning. The new keyboard works fine, but I think I screwed up putting stuff back together.
The back plastic part that needed to come off (the thing with the power buttons, mute, and lights, etc.)
has a small bump in front of the four indicator lights around where the right screw is for the keyboard. I can't press it down more, thoug
I know this is an oldie but it was one of the best DELL ever made.
I suspect it,s the hard drive ,but when i push start it goes to the blue screen with writing on it for a split second then goes to black and shows
safe mode ,safe mode with networking ,safe mode with command prompt , start normally, start in the last working condition
I have a Dell Latitude d630 computer. Everytime i turn the power button to turn on a blue screen will suddenly pop up. It will not bring the dell loading screen up and will not bring up the option to "start windows normal". I have had the battery replaced wih a new one. I might think its the memory card or the screen itself. what to do next or at least on how to get the loading screen up would be great. And sometimes when i can press ctrl, alt and delete at the same time the screen will disappear and come back with the blue screen. And after sitting their with the blue screen after a while the "wifi" light will light up as well with the "blue tooth" light.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have the latest Bios update and the laptop seems to suffer from wanting to boot properly on 1st attempt. Sometimes it will take up to 10 tries before it boots up.
Symptoms: Dell logs goes half and the machine freezes, sometimes it will just be stuck on the logo and not boot at all.
A brand new laptop with this problem is REALLY frustrating. I guess I have to log a call with them to get them to fix it?
We image all our new systems in our organizations on SCCM. I've got one that is a puzzler. I will not get an ip from the server. Instead it displays the message "PXE-E51:No DHCP or proxyDHCP offers were received." No other computer has this issue. I does not get as far as the network boot so it is not a windows deployment service issue. And it senses if the cable is disconnected, and gives you a different PXE error. I have flashed the BIOS, no sucess. I RMA'd the motherboard, and no difference. Dell won't replace the whole system since it was a replacement for another DOA. I thought it might be that little daughter card that contains the NIC connection, but cannot see that listed on the dispatch site as a seperate part.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I press the start button on my Latitude c600, 2 green lights light up on the right side for power and hard drive, as well as the 3 lights for the keyboard. The lights stay lit for about 5 seconds then go out.
However, that is with the external power connected.
With just the battery, it lights just as above, but then blinks off and then on again for another 5 seconds. Wash rince repeat.
Additional information:
I removed the hard drive weeks ago to use in another system and I don't know if laptops fail to boot if there is no hard drive detected.
Before you ask, I tried reseating the memory.
Although I have worked for years on desktop computers, I have never dismantled or provided support for a laptop.
Also, I cannected an external LCD but that means nothing untill it boots.
I bought a refurbished laptop from a distributor on ebay, who I discovered doesn't know the true meaning of refurbished. But to make the long story short, after I installed a new CMOS battery,
and purchased 2 new laptop batteries because the dead CMOS killed 2 other batteries, I now discovered the laptop will not boot up using just battery power with a full 100% charge.
When I press the power button, the battery LED's light up like it was charging the battery. It's 3 green 1 amber, and it dos this about 4 times before stopping. None of the lock lights, light up (just threw that in there in case it is relevent).
I have a Dell 4310 that I bought used without a hard drive. When I unboxed and initially tested it with another drive it booted into Windows 7, but, did not load because it wasn't the right drive.
The computer sat next to my chair for a few days until I got the new SSD drive that I wanted to install. When I put the drive in and plugged the system in (no battery yet) the battery light on the upper left flashed briefly and the power button came on and stayed that way for about twenty seconds. The screen remained black and the battery light and power button turned off.
This morning my son mentioned that he "might' have spilled a little bit of something on it. I quickly took it apart and carefully dried the pieces and parts on the heating vent and put it back together and the same thing happened.
I have tried the following:
1) Re seat RAM
2) verified video is connected
3) unplugged, held the power button for fifteen seconds and plugged the power cord back in.
What could I be looking at here, a new Motherboard?
I was given a nice E6510 that doesn't boot. I've taken it apart and tested the memory, all the connections, reseated the processor (yes I used arctic silver) and it never gets past the 'one time boot menu', the diagnostic boot freezes but I CAN get to the very complex BIOS version A16.
So, I bought a new MOBO thinking that would solve the boot issue but it hasn't-it's doing exactly the same thing. may indicate the problem-Dell calls this an "OPTION ROM", may be 'unseated' or the system board is bad.
What is "Option ROM" and how can it be reseated? Are there any other things I can do in BIOS to change this? I also replaced the SATA CDROM and the hard drive, and I know the USB port works okay but nothing will boot from them.
My D600 will not boot up unless the power cord is plugged in. Is there some switch that I hit by mistake? Can this be corrected?
I guess basically it doesn't work on the battery unless it is plugged in but the power shows 100 % for the battery
I have a new dell latitude 6510 notebook and now i will install Windows 7 Pro 32 Bit again. When selected "Boot List Option" under bios settings i see legacy and uefi but i can´t "Add Boot Options" - Warning "File System not Found". Windows 7 Pro 32 Bit is installed and working under legacy but not working on uefi. When uefi selcted windows 7 pro 32 Bit is installed and when installation is finish can´t find bootable device.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with my Latitude D400 laptop which has now occurred twice. Basically, after operating normally and shutting down properly it has stopped booting. After the POST screen it simply hangs at a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner.
Using the recovery console to repair the MBR and boot sector on the HDD has no effect. Neither does a repair installation of Windows XP Pro. The first time it happened I backed up, wiped the disc and started with a fresh installation of XP Pro.
However, it's now happened again. The hard disc is completely undamaged (all files are intact) but will not boot at all.
I am having some real issues with a Latitude E5420. It will sometimes boot no problem, maybe 40% of the time.
Most of the time it goes to the dell splash screen and the bar goes to the top then i get a blank screen. No blinking cursor or anything. No HD activity, no CD drive activity.
I can press F2 and get in to the bios, i can press F12 and get to the boot menu but even after selecting a boot option from the boot menu i will still get a blank screen most of the time.
Once the Laptop boots up it runs fine and doesn't report any errors. A memory test has shown no errors. I have replaces the CMOS battery, which was a bit of a nightmare, i have replaced/swapped the memory modules.
I own a Dell Latitude E5510. I *love* this laptop.
However, today I started having a problem with it. The laptop turned off suddenly. When I went to turn it back on, it began to load as usual with the following things on the screen:
1. the circular logo in the center of the screen.
2. the "press f12 for boot menu" thing in the top right corner.
3. the blue loading bar beneath the circular logo in the center.
What happens is the blue bar fills up, but then the screen goes black. It doesn't just instantly go black though. It starts from the top of the screen and moves to the bottom. It does the same thing when I press f12 to get into the boot menu.
I own a Dell Latitude E5530, which I bought used off eBay, and it was wiped to protect previous owner information, however, the owner did not reinstall Windows. I am getting the "C Prompt" as pictured below, and I would like to know how to reinstall Windows.
How to reinstall Windows with this popping up after BIOS?
In the past we've restrict the boot options on our laptops vis bios sequence to prevent unauthorised reimaging of machines. However I've just noticed our newest Latitude e6230 still list all the devices as available despite these settings. Screenshots attached.

Laptop manual boot:
I have an E5430 that when the power button is pressed will not post every time. It is random. I get the power light only. Holding the power button down until it clicks off and pressing it again on the sixth or 19th time it will finally light off and post and head into boot. I have run the full diagnostics and no problems are found. The diagnostic finds no problems so I am wondering if this is a power button problem or something not tied to the MB. The same thing occurs with different batteries and power adapters.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm attempting to enable BitLocker on a Latitude E7440 running Windows 8.1. The system is in UEFI mode with Secure Boot enabled, so I'd like to use Secure Boot for integrity validation. I have the appropriate GPO set, but if I try to enable the TPM protector, I get the following warning event in the BitLocker-API management event log:
BitLocker cannot use Secure Boot for integrity because the expected TCG Log entry for variable 'SecureBoot' is missing or invalid.
This is immediately followed by:
BitLocker determined that the TCG log is invalid for use of Secure Boot. The filtered TCG log for PCR[7] is included in this event.
The system therefore ends up configured with a regular platform validation profile instead of using Secure Boot. Is this a problem with the firmware on the Atmel TPM on the system, or is it something else?
