Mar 3, 2013

In the past we've restrict the boot options on our laptops vis bios sequence to prevent unauthorised reimaging of machines. However I've just noticed our newest Latitude e6230 still list all the devices as available despite these settings. Screenshots attached.

HP 350 G1 OS/Software :: Create BIOS Bootable Usb - All Options Disabled

Oct 31, 2014

I want to update BIOS on freshly bought HP 350 G1 notebook from F.11 to F.12 - which does have only FeeDOS installed. This is why (on my Lenovo) I downloaded URL... which is  HP Notebook System BIOS Update, to create bootable USB to update BIOS. Now, after going through first few steps and getting choices what exactly I want to do, I get all options disabled.
After few hours of trying different things, all 4 USB ports (2x 3.0 and 2x 2.0), 3 different USB sticks I gave up and turned to you Why I want to update BIOS: To install Windows 7, because now It stops at a point that CD/DVD drive driver is not found and need to browse for it. HP Envy 15-U010DX OS/Software :: Disable SecureBoot And Enable Legacy Boot

Dec 9, 2014

I have been trying to disable SecureBoot and enable Legacy boot. This is a fairly straight forward process, press F10 to enter the BIOS, scroll over to the proper area and press F5 over Legacy boot to enable it (Which automatically disables SecureBoot). I have tried this quite a few times and each time have had no success. Everytime I change this setting and restart the computer it just ends up with Legacy Boot disabled and SecureBoot enabled. Yes, I am saving the settings, if I change other settings (Such as Virtualization support) they do save. Why I cannot save these settings after changing them?
I have an HP Envy 15-U010DX. I have also updated the BIOS and am running the latest version.

Lenovo T400 / T500 :: ThinkPad T540p / Unable To Select UEFI / Legacy Boot In BIOS / Startup

Aug 7, 2014

I bought a ThinkPad 540p that comes with preloaded Windows 8.1. As I want to dual boot the machine I tried to select the Legacy Boot option in the BIOS/Startup tab, but I can't do anything as the option UEFI/Legacy Book is greyed out and locked in "UEFI Only". Below it there is an option called: -CSM Support that is also greyed out and selected as [No]. (below  these options there is a little note with an asterisk saying "Unselectable for Secure Boot").
How can I enable the UEFI/Legacy Boot option again in order to dual boot the computer? I want to be able to boot from USB or from the CD Drive.

Dell :: Memory Options For Latitude E6430?

Aug 3, 2013

I'm planning to purchase a Dell Latitude E6430 in a few days time but I have a couple of things to clarify before I purchase this laptop. The question is, Dell manual correctly says this supports up to 16GB of RAM. However Dell does not provide/ship 16GB of ram with this laptop.

I would purchase aftermarket 16GB of ram to do what I want to do with this laptop. But I'm uncertain which RAM specification I should buy. Should I buy DDR3L (1.35V) or DDR3 (1.5V) SODIMM ?

This is what the Latitude E6430 manual says :

MemoryMemory connector two SODIMM slotsMemory capacity 1 GB, 2 GB, or 4 GBMemory type DDR3 SDRAM (1600 MHz)Minimum memory 2 GB Maximum memory 16 GB

Dell :: Hard Drive Options For Latitude E4200?

Feb 8, 2009

I think the E4200 is a great machine, and I can probably get one cheap off Dell Outlet. My only real concern here is hard drive capacity. The standard options of 64GB or 128GB SSD aren't going to cut it for me...

I'd want to have at least a 256GB SSD or one of the Toshiba 250GB 5400RPM 1.8" drives.

I know that the E4200 has a 1.8" hard drive slot, so a standard 2.5" notebook hard drive will not work at all.

But its 1.8" slot should mean that regular 1.8" hard drives should work in it, no? Surely the computer can use either a 1.8" SSD drive or 1.8" hard drive

Dell Latitude E7240 :: USB Ports Disabled While Docked?

Nov 3, 2014

I have just gotten an E7240 computer and have noticed that the USB ports on the back of my computer are disabled when the computer is docked which is a very unfortunate feature of this new computer model. It seems there are many people posting complaints about this feature on the internet. It basically takes a computer that has 3 USB ports and makes two of them rather useless. It is very useful if a USB receiver for keyboard and mouse can be plugged in to the back of the computer so that the mouse can be used easily when docked, but also when the computer is taken off the dock to go to a meeting room. This then leaves the side USB port available for devices such as wireless projectors when in the meeting room. Although this computer was designed to behave this way, I think that most users would agree that this is a critical issue that needs to be seriously considered and fixed by Dell as soon as possible assuming that there is not already a work around available.

Dell Inspiron 2105 :: BSOD Without Options At Boot

Jan 27, 2015

Here is my HW: Dell inspiron 15iR-2105 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits

My wife said she just fell a sleep with her computer on, ok but now her comp won't boot at all.

Here is the history:

1) At first boot the next morning she was getting IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I have tried all the options after pressing F8 without any success the comp kept on rebooting and showing the BSOD or 2 options start windows 7 normally or start windows 7 repair (recommended). When I select either of these I get the BSOD (IRQL....)

2) The command prompt was getting stuck on aswRvrt which I found out to be an avast file. 3) I wanted to secure my wife's data first so I removed the HDD used an USB adapter and connected to my computer and was able to get all of her data. I also was able to remove (so I think) avast from here comp by using and run it on her HDD. I also removed all avast driver in windows/system32/driver from her comp because after removing only the aswRvrt another avast driver was getting stuck (aswVmm)4) Now I still get the BSOD and when using command prompt, it gets stuck on classpnp5) I found that ALT + F9 would show me this:

Edit boot optionEdit windows boot option for: Windows 7Path:WindowsSystem32Winload.exePartition 1Hard Disk 9430081d

Press Enter To Sumbit

I do not know how to use this option so I just hit ENTER.

Dell XPS 15 :: 2 Beeps And Bios Screen With Boot Options...

Oct 15, 2014

2 beeps I thought was a memory issue but the screen doesn't say anything about a memory problem. there are 3 options 1 boot to windows 2 boot options and the 3 I cant remember. option 2 and 3 may be out of order. I have looked in bios for memory test to turn it off but I don't see it. pressing F1 (first option) boots normally and system runs great as usual. 1 other thing, the battery light flashes red 4 times and then holds white for a second then cycles back to the flashing red. this all started at the same time. I tried to do a bios update but im already running the latest version so I get the window that says it wont be completed. the battery does seem to last a very long time as it usualy does, its a 9 cell battery.
