Dell Latitude E7440 :: UEFI Tile Settings Not Showing In Windows 8 64 Bit

Feb 17, 2013

I am new in Windows 8 and i wanted to install either fedora or Ubuntu 12.10 in WIndows 8 64 bit. However, under Advanced options in the General settings, i don't see the UEFI settings tile which shows the UEFI firmware settings so that i can disable secure boot. What should I do, or which other way should I do so as I can be able to dual boot?

Dell Latitude E7440 :: Fingerprint / How To Logon With Windows 7 Pro

Nov 30, 2014

In Window's control panel, Biometric Devices shows me that the drivers are ok "Allow biometric devices with windows" is flagged. With Broadcom FMA I can easly enroll my fingerprints

Everything looks good but at this point there's no way to use my fingerprints to logon with Win7 pro.

In control panel / programs I can see installed: Dell Data Protection | Security Tools and Dell Data Protection | Security Tools Authentication but I can't find out any program to manage my fingerprinters.

I tried almost everything, installing/uninstalling drivers, softwares and all this didn't work. I suppose that I should find a program or something that allows me to associate the enrolled fingerprints to my account.

I even tried to use Dell My Downloads (with Internet Explorer) but I cannot because during the installation I had the message Service Tag Number not supported.

Windows logon shows me, next to my account and security card, another "account" fingerprints, I even tried to login with this but I received the message "Fingerprint not verified" (obviously because they are not associated to any account)....

Dell Latitude E7440 :: BitLocker And Secure Boot Running Windows 8.1

Jun 26, 2014

I'm attempting to enable BitLocker on a Latitude E7440 running Windows 8.1. The system is in UEFI mode with Secure Boot enabled, so I'd like to use Secure Boot for integrity validation. I have the appropriate GPO set, but if I try to enable the TPM protector, I get the following warning event in the BitLocker-API management event log:

BitLocker cannot use Secure Boot for integrity because the expected TCG Log entry for variable 'SecureBoot' is missing or invalid.

This is immediately followed by:

BitLocker determined that the TCG log is invalid for use of Secure Boot. The filtered TCG log for PCR[7] is included in this event.

The system therefore ends up configured with a regular platform validation profile instead of using Secure Boot. Is this a problem with the firmware on the Atmel TPM on the system, or is it something else?

Dell Latitude E7440 :: Can Add A Second Internal HDD Along With SSD

Jan 23, 2015

So I have been talking to the customer care representatives of Dell and they keep giving me different answers for my questions. So I was hoping I could have a more constructive discussion here without being put on hold for hours -_-

1. My E7440 came with a SSD. Can I add a second internal HDD along with the the SSD?

2. If yes, would buying it from a different vendor (say Amazon) and installing it myself void my warranty?

Dell Latitude E7440 :: Not Shutting Down?

Aug 10, 2014

I just purchased a new E7440 recently and most of the time, it will not shut down- the power light stays light, but display is off and the HDD light blinks every few seconds. If I leave it, it hibernates eventually but only shuts down when I actually hold down the power key.

The same thing happens if I restart instead of shut down.

Dell Latitude E7440 :: Fan Is Always On High And Never Stop Even CPU Idle

May 15, 2014

I just got a refurbished E7440. Before booting into an OS (e.g. staying in BIOS or at the boot menu), and after booting into Ubuntu, the fan is always on high and never stop (even when the CPU is idle at 40 degree C)). I also have an E6420 and an E6440, have never seen this behavior on them.

I see both BIOS A06 and A07 has "thermal control" listed as enhancement. Updated the BIOS to A06, A07, then A08, still have the same problem in all of them.

Is this expected for all E7440s or just mine? What can I do to make the fan be "on-demand" (without using Windows)?

Dell Latitude E7440 :: Disk Encryption Options?

Feb 17, 2014

Though in all adverts it boasts about strong encryption options, I could not find any way of encrypting the disk other than Windows Bitlocker.

In the Dell Data Protection Console, but there are no options in the Encryption Tab. I even downloaded directly from Dell product site DDP Encryption software (650 Mb !) but in the installation, personal installation option is disabled asking for only Enterprise installation which requires some kind of a server.

I'm experiencing a problem with multiple Latitude E7440 laptops.

When I undock from a port replicator, the laptop screen goes black. The screen never returns to a usable state. I must turn off the laptop manually and power back on. This is not occurring 100% of the time but is occurring fairly often. I'm running the latest drivers and bios update.

Acer Aspire V3-571g :: After Upgrading UEFI - Can't Access Settings

I've read the post about how Acer can support on lost or forgotten passwords("there are very few if no options available from the end user side"), but in this case I've not created any password, as I said

Acer Aspire V3 571G :: BIOS V1.13 Doesn't Have UEFI Settings?

Nov 6, 2014

So I have bought this Acer laptop for 1 year, and it's BIOS came with V1.0 didn't have UEFI setting, the default is LEGACY. After trying updating that BIOS version to V1.13 successfully, I still don't see the UEFI setting, when I check in a software called HWiNFO64 Program, it says my laptop BIOS is capable of UEFI BIOS. So my main questions are....How can I have UEFI setting in my BIOS? What should I do?

My specs: Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.4GHz, Nvidia Geforce GT 640M 2GB, RAM 8GB, HDD 750GB, Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 (Will upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro x64 if I can change my BIOS to UEFI boot).

Dell Latitude E7440 :: How To Check The Normal Operating Temperature

Jan 18, 2014

I need to check the normal operating temperature for the Dell Latitude E7440. My fan is constantly on and the air coming out the side vent is extremely hot. I have installed a temperature app and with basic use (windows 8.1 and 2 or 3 apps open) the core 0 and core 1 of the processor are running between 85 and 90 degrees Celsius. When plugged into power, the fan is permanently on high speed. I don't know if this is normal. I dont understand why it is getting so hot, i have the i7, 8GB, 256GB SSD, so literally no moving parts to generate heat. My battery (47Wh) drains very quickly as well, 2 1/2 hours max.

Dell Latitude E7440 :: Loud Buzzing Noises On Processing

Jan 15, 2014

2 days ago I was given a new work laptop - the E7440 (its brand new).

Straight away I noticed some loud buzzing noises which a fellow colleague said was the fan. It's quite annoying. I soon noticed however when my laptop was idle these noises would stop, and when I clicked they would start again. Whenever I ask the Laptop to do anything these noises start up, and considering im active on the machine all day.

There are high pitched, buzzing noises. And as mentioned are aligned to when the laptop is processing something. They also make sounds when I scroll the mouse for example.

Dell Latitude E7440 :: Disable Click On The Pointing Stick

May 6, 2014

Received a new Latitude E7440 today, and I like having the option of a pointing stick and a trackpad depending on what I'm doing, however the pointing stick apparently also can be "clicked" instead of using the dedicated buttons... this is annoying to say the least.

When I'm moving the mouse pointer with the pointing stick, if I press a little too hard it thinks I'm trying to do a click/drag.

I can operate the dedicated buttons just fine, so is there some way to disable this pressure-sensitive click feature on the pointing stick? Otherwise I'll have to disable the stick entirely as it's more annoying that having somebody randomly clicking the mouse buttons while you're trying to work...

I visit many offices at I am the IT manger and all the connections are saved in profiles but despite them being saved they won't connect even when I try to connect manually. The only way to get the adapter to connect is to right click Proset running in the tray and click "reset proset". Even now while typing this I am connected via wifi but the proset icon shows "connecting"

I've tried updating the wifi adapter drivers from Dell and Intel directly and also completely removed the drivers and re-installed them but I am still having the same issue.

Dell Latitude E7440 :: Usage Of Pointing Stick Leads To Cursor Drifting

Jan 27, 2015

I am experiencing an issue from the usage of the pointing stick (I have gotten accustomed to it) where the cursor would drift slightly about 3-4cm before it stops when I let go of the pointing stick. It occurs maybe about 5-10 times on a working day. The funny part is if I continue to move the pointing stick and letting go just right before it finished drifting, it would continue to drift perpetually until I allow it to finish drifting i.e usually drifts 3-4cm away from the pointed area. It causes me inconvenience whenever im dragging an icon or a browser around and it can get pretty annoying.

Dell Latitude E7440 :: When Plug In Power Cord Into Computer / Screen Freezes On

Apr 17, 2014

I've had my laptop for a little bit under 2 months, so these are the things I have noticed.

Issue number 1: When you plug in the power cord into the computer, the screen freezes on what it is currently on. I noticed this issue because occasionally when I plug in my power cord, and try to use the mousepad to select something, the mouse pointer is gone! I have to unplug-replug the power cable to get the mouse pointer to show again. It seems to have to do with the screen

Issue number 2: when I carry my E7440 around in my bad, or have it shut for long periods of time >3 hours (I just simply close the lid), the computer will SHUT DOWN. The thing will shut down completly, even though I simply closed the lid! At first I thought it was just going into hibernate, so I disabled hibernate in my power settings. But nope, even when the computer is asleep, it will occasionally shut it self down for no reason at all.

Just now, I closed the lid on my laptop, and put in in my bag, then walked to my office about 10 minutes away. When I sat down at my desk and opened my laptop, to my surprise, it had shut down by itself! All of my open windows, browsers, and applications were closed, and upon opening chrome and microsoft word, I was greeted by "your browser did not shut down correctly" and "microsoft word has recovered files". This points to the conclusion that it was not hibernates fault, but instead a issue with the laptop itself shutting down when it is put in sleep. This issue needs to be rectified immediately if it is a widespread issue.

Issue number three: When the computer comes back from hibernate or sleep, the computer is very very sluggish, even when plugged in. It is sluggish forever, OR until the power plan is set from whatever it is to "high performance". upon switching to the previous powerplan from high performance, the swiftness of the system is restored. This indicates to me that the system is throttling itself after it resumes from hibernation, why. This needs to be fixed; many people (myself included) just thought that the system itself was slow and underpowered, not realizing that it was just throttling itself when it emerged from sleep or hibernate.

Dell Latitude E7440 :: When Turn On Laptop Freeze And Shut Down Automatically - All Test Passed

I was using my laptop the other day and it froze up. Then it shut down by itself. When I tried booting it back up, it says "No bootable devices found" and gives me the options to press F1, F2 or F5 for retrying, setup utility and diagnostics. I ran the diagnostics and it says "All tests passed". The SSD also seems to be recognized as it shows it in the "configuration" tab in diagnostics. I have also tried taking the msata SSD from the 2.5" bay and moving it to the msata slot. Rebooted but shows the same thing. Is this a known issue and is there a fix for this?

Dell Latitude E6530 :: Blank Screen At Power On After Switching BIOS To UEFI Boot

I can't even switch it back to Legacy because I can't get into the BIOS. Hitting F12 after power on does nothing. Is there some way to get it back to Legacy mode? Or simply reset the BIOS to default settings?

The BIOS info states that some applications may run faster when it is seen as two processors. Can anyone give me any insight into what these options actually mean in terms of PC performance ?

Also, what types of application would be impacted by the single processor or two processor options ?

Dell Inspiron 15R-5520 :: Cannot Boot Windows 7 Install DVD In UEFI Mode

Oct 22, 2012

I received my Dell Inspiron 15R - 5520 laptop and am attempting to set it up to perform a UEFI boot to a Windows 7 (64 bit) installation.  I am using bios version A11 which is the latest available.

If I use legacy, I am able to boot fine to the Installation DVD and install/use the system.   If I use UEFI (non-secure boot),  it will freeze during the boot process for a long period of time.  I do not ever get to the GUI to attempt installation. I have tried clearing the disk partitions using diskpart -> clean to ensure it is not due to having GPT vs MBR and have also tried changing the SATA adapter to ATA vs AHCI.

Alternately,  I am able to boot to,  and install Windows 8 RTM in UEFI mode.

Before I get a lot of responses of "Don't use UEFI",  the reason I purchased this laptop was for the purpose of dual booting between windows 8 and windows 7 for development purposes,  and require the use of secureboot to properly test the software I am developing.   If this laptop is not able to run Windows 7 in UEFI mode,  I will need to return it and select an alternate vendor.
