Dell :: My Latitude C600 Won't Boot After Damaging Fall
Sep 20, 2007
When I press the start button on my Latitude c600, 2 green lights light up on the right side for power and hard drive, as well as the 3 lights for the keyboard. The lights stay lit for about 5 seconds then go out.
However, that is with the external power connected.
With just the battery, it lights just as above, but then blinks off and then on again for another 5 seconds. Wash rince repeat.
Additional information:
I removed the hard drive weeks ago to use in another system and I don't know if laptops fail to boot if there is no hard drive detected.
Before you ask, I tried reseating the memory.
Although I have worked for years on desktop computers, I have never dismantled or provided support for a laptop.
Also, I cannected an external LCD but that means nothing untill it boots.

I have a Dell Latitude C600 that I purchased with a non working cooling fan. I bought a fan and tested it in the laptop when it was apart and it worked. I tested it again as I put it together and it worked.
Once totally together it never comes on. Is there somewhere in the BIOS where I can control it or how else can I check it?
Shouldit always be on like my other 2 laptops? Thanks for any help. Also, it is a PIII 750 MHZ C600.

I've seen this question repeated on the web a few times but see no satisfactory answer.
I'm connecting S-Video out on the C600 to the S-Video, Input 2, on the Aquos.
When booting the Dell I get a few seconds of an image on the Aquos and then a black screen.
I've tried changing the density of the display on the Dell to see if that would fix it but no it doesn't.
Also, using the Fn F8 combination does not affect the outcome when using the S-Video port.

yesterday my e6400 fell from 5 feet! 1.5m! I almost caught it but it just fell. Fortunately it fell flat and there was en empty box of cleenex that fell with it and fortunately made the impact with the ground a little softer.
But STILL, I have a free fall sensor that did absolutely nothing. I picked the 6400 up and it just kept running as usual. Nothing happened to the machine, which to me is a great sign of durability, but AFAIK the HDD should have shut off, otherwise what's the point of having a free fall sensor?

I recently got my heatsink + motherboard replaced and noticed drastic improvements with my temperatures. My GPU is now idling at 60-65 C and when I am playing a game (Warhammer Online or Lord of the rings online) it is at 95-100 C.
Is that too hot and should I stop playing to risk damaging the video card?
Or is it fine? I can hear the fan going and I feel the hot air being blown out of the vent and cold air being sucked into the fan.

I read a while ago on here some posts about some copper mod because the chip had some flaws about cooling or something
If I play a game such as Left 4 Dead, will I run any risks of damaging the video card or motherboard?
I purchased the laptop mid october from Dell.

I have a Dell Latitude d630 computer. Everytime i turn the power button to turn on a blue screen will suddenly pop up. It will not bring the dell loading screen up and will not bring up the option to "start windows normal". I have had the battery replaced wih a new one. I might think its the memory card or the screen itself. what to do next or at least on how to get the loading screen up would be great. And sometimes when i can press ctrl, alt and delete at the same time the screen will disappear and come back with the blue screen. And after sitting their with the blue screen after a while the "wifi" light will light up as well with the "blue tooth" light.

I have the latest Bios update and the laptop seems to suffer from wanting to boot properly on 1st attempt. Sometimes it will take up to 10 tries before it boots up.
Symptoms: Dell logs goes half and the machine freezes, sometimes it will just be stuck on the logo and not boot at all.
A brand new laptop with this problem is REALLY frustrating. I guess I have to log a call with them to get them to fix it?

We image all our new systems in our organizations on SCCM. I've got one that is a puzzler. I will not get an ip from the server. Instead it displays the message "PXE-E51:No DHCP or proxyDHCP offers were received." No other computer has this issue. I does not get as far as the network boot so it is not a windows deployment service issue. And it senses if the cable is disconnected, and gives you a different PXE error. I have flashed the BIOS, no sucess. I RMA'd the motherboard, and no difference. Dell won't replace the whole system since it was a replacement for another DOA. I thought it might be that little daughter card that contains the NIC connection, but cannot see that listed on the dispatch site as a seperate part.

I bought a refurbished laptop from a distributor on ebay, who I discovered doesn't know the true meaning of refurbished. But to make the long story short, after I installed a new CMOS battery,
and purchased 2 new laptop batteries because the dead CMOS killed 2 other batteries, I now discovered the laptop will not boot up using just battery power with a full 100% charge.
When I press the power button, the battery LED's light up like it was charging the battery. It's 3 green 1 amber, and it dos this about 4 times before stopping. None of the lock lights, light up (just threw that in there in case it is relevent).

I have a Dell 4310 that I bought used without a hard drive. When I unboxed and initially tested it with another drive it booted into Windows 7, but, did not load because it wasn't the right drive.
The computer sat next to my chair for a few days until I got the new SSD drive that I wanted to install. When I put the drive in and plugged the system in (no battery yet) the battery light on the upper left flashed briefly and the power button came on and stayed that way for about twenty seconds. The screen remained black and the battery light and power button turned off.
This morning my son mentioned that he "might' have spilled a little bit of something on it. I quickly took it apart and carefully dried the pieces and parts on the heating vent and put it back together and the same thing happened.
I have tried the following:
1) Re seat RAM
2) verified video is connected
3) unplugged, held the power button for fifteen seconds and plugged the power cord back in.
What could I be looking at here, a new Motherboard?

I was given a nice E6510 that doesn't boot. I've taken it apart and tested the memory, all the connections, reseated the processor (yes I used arctic silver) and it never gets past the 'one time boot menu', the diagnostic boot freezes but I CAN get to the very complex BIOS version A16.
So, I bought a new MOBO thinking that would solve the boot issue but it hasn't-it's doing exactly the same thing. may indicate the problem-Dell calls this an "OPTION ROM", may be 'unseated' or the system board is bad.
What is "Option ROM" and how can it be reseated? Are there any other things I can do in BIOS to change this? I also replaced the SATA CDROM and the hard drive, and I know the USB port works okay but nothing will boot from them.

My D600 will not boot up unless the power cord is plugged in. Is there some switch that I hit by mistake? Can this be corrected?
I guess basically it doesn't work on the battery unless it is plugged in but the power shows 100 % for the battery

I have an issue with my Latitude D400 laptop which has now occurred twice. Basically, after operating normally and shutting down properly it has stopped booting. After the POST screen it simply hangs at a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner.
Using the recovery console to repair the MBR and boot sector on the HDD has no effect. Neither does a repair installation of Windows XP Pro. The first time it happened I backed up, wiped the disc and started with a fresh installation of XP Pro.
However, it's now happened again. The hard disc is completely undamaged (all files are intact) but will not boot at all.

I am having some real issues with a Latitude E5420. It will sometimes boot no problem, maybe 40% of the time.
Most of the time it goes to the dell splash screen and the bar goes to the top then i get a blank screen. No blinking cursor or anything. No HD activity, no CD drive activity.
I can press F2 and get in to the bios, i can press F12 and get to the boot menu but even after selecting a boot option from the boot menu i will still get a blank screen most of the time.
Once the Laptop boots up it runs fine and doesn't report any errors. A memory test has shown no errors. I have replaces the CMOS battery, which was a bit of a nightmare, i have replaced/swapped the memory modules.

I own a Dell Latitude E5510. I *love* this laptop.
However, today I started having a problem with it. The laptop turned off suddenly. When I went to turn it back on, it began to load as usual with the following things on the screen:
1. the circular logo in the center of the screen.
2. the "press f12 for boot menu" thing in the top right corner.
3. the blue loading bar beneath the circular logo in the center.
What happens is the blue bar fills up, but then the screen goes black. It doesn't just instantly go black though. It starts from the top of the screen and moves to the bottom. It does the same thing when I press f12 to get into the boot menu.

I have an E5430 that when the power button is pressed will not post every time. It is random. I get the power light only. Holding the power button down until it clicks off and pressing it again on the sixth or 19th time it will finally light off and post and head into boot. I have run the full diagnostics and no problems are found. The diagnostic finds no problems so I am wondering if this is a power button problem or something not tied to the MB. The same thing occurs with different batteries and power adapters.

I'm attempting to enable BitLocker on a Latitude E7440 running Windows 8.1. The system is in UEFI mode with Secure Boot enabled, so I'd like to use Secure Boot for integrity validation. I have the appropriate GPO set, but if I try to enable the TPM protector, I get the following warning event in the BitLocker-API management event log:
BitLocker cannot use Secure Boot for integrity because the expected TCG Log entry for variable 'SecureBoot' is missing or invalid.
This is immediately followed by:
BitLocker determined that the TCG log is invalid for use of Secure Boot. The filtered TCG log for PCR[7] is included in this event.
The system therefore ends up configured with a regular platform validation profile instead of using Secure Boot. Is this a problem with the firmware on the Atmel TPM on the system, or is it something else?

I have a Latitude laptop as described above and for some reason it isn't detecting the SSD Drive.
It states: No Boot Device Found, press any key to reboot
I read on the Dell support website the laptop may need setting up in maintenance mode?
However after pressing alt+f at the Dell logo nothing happens it just tries to boot.

I recently converted from a Lenovo X220 to a the Dell Latitude XT3. The XT3 is a better laptop minus a couple design choices. That said, there is one feature in particular that I will miss the most....My old X220 fingerprint reader allowed me to swipe with the latop powered down. This action would boot up the PC and log me in. This doesn't seem to work the same on the XT3. Instead, I must power it up then swipe in two separate steps.
Is there a way to get the XT3 to respond to a finger swipe while it is powered down?

I've got a dell Latitude D410; after it shows the Dell screen and the Windows XP screen (with the loading bar down the bottom), it goes to a screen with a blue background and a frozen mouse; after a while the mouse starts working but nothing else happens. I've tried booting from Last known good configuration but didn't work.

I'm trying to install Ubuntu on an e6530. I changed a BIOS boot setting from Legacy to UEFI. Now the laptop doesn't even show me a BIOS screen at startup. The screen is backlit, so power is on, but shows nothing. The drive light flickers a few times, but no matter how long I wait, nothing appears.
I can't even switch it back to Legacy because I can't get into the BIOS. Hitting F12 after power on does nothing. Is there some way to get it back to Legacy mode? Or simply reset the BIOS to default settings?

Latitude D505 keyboard causing beeps on boot.Beeps do not correspond to any of the beep codes (they are approximately 8 beeps long).Letter g is continuously activated (tested using word and letter is continuously displayed on page and never stops)
PST revealed no problems, also no virus on system from scanning.Verified that it is either the keyboard or the port on the mother board, as removal of keyboard prevents the beeps and activation of letter g.External keyboard working well with no problems. how to check whether the problem is the keyboard or the motherboard's port, as I want to purchase a replacement. Would a latitude D820 keyboard have the same pin arrangements to test the mother board's port?
