I have a Dell Inspirion E1705 and when I woke up this morning it seems as though computer had frozen, but the seemed to be white lines down the screen.
I rebooted the computer and even on the BIOS screen there were lines, and Vista would not boot. I tried running the system diagnostics and it had passed every test (I ran the extended tests), and the lines seems to had gone away after reboot.
When I got to the Windows log-on screen there were still some lines, but once I logged in, the lines had gone away...or so it seemed. After about 30 min of surfing the internet, the screen froze and lines went through the screen once again.
I believe my graphics card, nVidia 7900 Go GS, has gone bad, but I can't talk to anyone at Dell because my warrenty has exspired.
I'm hoping I'm wrong about my graphics card failing, and maybe is has something to do with corrupt bios, but I'm not sure.
when i first got this laptop i noticed that the screen was distorted and there was red lines everywhere and the screen was shaking abit. so i contacted dell and they sent me a repair guy to fix it. he fixed it in about 15min by pulling apart the laptop and replugging in the screen. but now its happening again. so i think the thing that plugs in is loose or somethin. so what do u think i should do out of the following options.
1. open it myself and replug it (im a noob and will try remember best what he did)
2. get techinician to come in again (bothersome as i have school)
HP 17t-2100 CTO screen is light, or lines, horizontal across screen.  LM125AV  How to remove the screen from the base of the notebook, and how to test cable, or LCD screen itself? Is replacing the LCD screen the correct option?  Running Win7 64bit
As others with x230's have found, I have an issue with the screen fading/graying out then developing vertical lines over the entire screen. Pressing the screen bottom screen border resolves it for a split second then it occurs again, though resolves usually after pressing it at various points along the plastic lower edge maybe 3-6 times, sometimes with slight flickering of whites after. Runngin at 60hz. URL... Â I bought it on ebay so don't have any warranty information, unfortunately. It appears to be the LCD connector or cable. Is it possible to open it up and fix that somehow, or should I buy an IPS screen (the current screen isn't IPS I believe) and replace it myself?
I notice like 6-7 short lines on my screen (mostly concentrated on the left side of screen)...looks like something you would see if you took you finger nail and and went down on an lcd screen (technicolor line).
If i take my finger and lightly touch the line, it goes away, but it reappears every time i boot the computer! Should I ask for a screen replacement?
I have 4 vertical lines almost equal distance apart on about 1/5 of the left of my screen on my Dell Inspiron 9300.
My assumption is the video card. I believe a soda got on it and that the previous owner tore it down and attempted to allow it to dry.
I have an old Dell Inspiron 8100 and wanted to ask if there was anyway that video card might fit the 9300? That would be a quick fix where it could be used immediately.
If not, I would really like to mod it out, but have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. Any ideas or proper parts to look into would be greatly appreciated. Add speed, get better video, etc. Can I purchase a different motherboard that would fit inside?
I came home and these weird lines started to appear on the screen. They don't always appear and they're not vertical. The screen is fine when first boot up, but they start appearing after I run some programs. Sometimes the OS would stop responding altogether.
It's not a virus.
Tried reinstall OS, but the setup halts at the very beginning, which I assume is when it scans for hardwares.
So I'm fairly convinced that it's a hardware issue, and the diagnostic says one of the registers on my video card is bad. (Actually the diagnostic test ran without any problem until it tested one of the video modes, so it appears that the card is fine in some video modes like tiled mode).
Does anyone have any way for me to be exactly sure that it is the video card's fault? It costs 400 bucks on Ebay, so I want to be sure. (There could be a slight chance that it's the MB's fault?)
If it is the video card's fault, what are my replacement options? I don't really mind the performance, since I have bought a new desktop. So any video card that can render a few polygons on screen would work for me.
The system in question: Dell XPS M170 with GeForce 7800 GO GTX WinXP
I have these vertical lines in my screen that appear whenever the laptop screen is on. I have connected the laptop to an external monitor and the external monitor looks fine. I have taken a screenshot of my warranties from Dell if that will decipher whether or not the screen can be replaced.Â
My dell mx1210 has been giving me these strange vertical lines on my screen with different characters on the text as well whenever I boot up.
I suspect a graphic card driver issue b/c it usually happens only after I install the Geforce go 7400 drivers. I had already tried the latest drivers but those didn’t help either.
Every now and then, even if I had uninstalled the drivers it still shows upon start up or I get blank screens later when on desktop. Is anyone familiar with this type of problem on their laptop? Unfortunately, I don’t think the graphic card is irreplaceable on this particular notebook.
My Dell Inspiron 3520 screen goes grey with horizontal lines during use. It reminds me of an old TV except the lines do not scroll. It started after I upgraded from 8 to 8.1.
I have a inspiron 3520 laptop. A little over a year old. Lately my screen has been going white with black lines and swirls going through it. Sometimes it will clear right up and sometimes I have to restart the computer. I have tried installing My Dell Client but it will not install.
seems to happen when i'm in any application. it'll kick me out and i'll have a white screen with blue or purple vertical lines. bought new in June of this year and it's been happening almost daily for the past 3 months.
2 days ago, i finally decided to reinstall windows XP. i did this and i still have the problem and it seems to have gotten worse. just today i got the error 4 times! and the last time i just got a solid blue screen. it's never happened this often before.
i called dell tech support. they seem to think it's bad ram so they're sending me new ram to try out. it's not the BSOD... it just mostly the white w/ stripes screen or, like the last time, a solid blue screen... no text.
My dell Inspiron E1705 has been giving me these strange horizontal / angular lines and dots on my screen with different characters on the text as well whenever I boot up.
Have installed latest nvidia drivers too. I actually reformatted the system and installed all the drivers. For a week system worked fine and then started showing the display abnormality.
Again re-installed the OS after re-formatting. When the display gets impacted even portion of the screen appears in different color. This is not limited to any one part of the screen .....
I have a Dell E4300.A few days ago 2 vertical lines appeared on my screen, now there are around 10, different colors and sizes. When i press on the bottom of my display, where is the Dell logo, they disappear.I removed the display cover and, i think, the problem is the band in the middle, not the flex band connected to the motherboard.
Can the bottom of the display be changed? Is something like an inverter, but my screen is LED, so i belive that is a different mechanism. Is there any way to fix this without replacing the display?I checked with an external monitor, it works fine.
A number of weeks ago my laptop began to show vertical white lines on the screen, it has gradually gotten worse and now it is unusable. I have fallen outside warranty (couple of months). I have not dropped the machine, nor allowed any liquid near the machine.
i have a Hp laptop and The problem is that i just turned on my computer few week ago a Yellow line vertically ran down my screen,i knew it was something bad but now i have 3 and its becoming a problem...
I am getting a white screen with some light blue horizontal lines. I've do a hard shut down and restart but same result. At one point I did see half of the normal start up screen but it faded away to white.
My screen recently started getting a lot of faded white lines going horizontal and vertical across my screen causing the screen to blur/disorientated my screen. I can still navigate just fine but there is clearly something wrong here. I've plugged it into my hdmi's port on my tv and the image is just fine. Is it a wiring problem maybe? The lines are getting slightly more extreme and a little more colored... They lines of windows extend around the border all the way to the end if the screen.
I have a Vaio Z with the 1600 by 900 screen, since having it repaired (the bottom case replaced) I have noticed Diagonal lines from the top left to bottom right.
I have had it in with Vaio Link, but they say they can see nothing wrong with it and sent it back
The lines/banding show in the Bios so it is not software related.
Does any else's screens look like this? I have compared it with another model in the Sony Shop and that one didn't seem to have the issue.
1: Diagonal lines from top left to bottom right in the lighter colours, this is in MS paint.
2: BBC web site, the Diagonal lines are clearly seen in the BBC blue.
3: Sony Vaio Bios, is clear in the light blue and lightly in the white area.
I have an HP DV5t purchased last September/October.
The computer seems to have a weird problem when watching HD videos from places like YouTube or Hulu. I will get horizontal lines near the middle height of the screen. They are not pixels changing colors or going dark, it is almost as if the image is jumping around or as if it is processing/updating the video or something. (It's really hard to explain - it looks like the video is slightly off, just a series of horizontal lines that are jumping around.)
I've never noticed this until somewhat recently. Is this just a case of horizontal refresh lines and the video being too high-quality? Or does it sound like something more problematic.
I have an hp laptop dv6500 and the last two weeks after 15 minutes of use many yellow lines show up and sometimes after rebooting the screen is divided into six parts...
I have an Inspiron 15 Intel N5040 I purchased 10 months ago.  I am noticing that on photographs (like my screensaver background) there are fuzzy lines across the screen kind of like straight sunrays at an angle.  The problem is, my prior Inspiron had the same problem after about 16 months and the end result was an unusable laptop because the screen went out completely.
I have a screen problem on my Laptop, on start-up it shows a white screen with black lines (Picture below) only happens once every 5-10 start-ups. Only happens for 5-10 Secs & sorts itself out before it boots up.
Other time it happens is when I'm using the internet, the screen just sticks, but then when I move the screen, it stops.
I must admit that there are the diagonal lines that appear on the vaio Z when the laptop moves or just for no reason. It's very fine, but obviously there has been alot of discussion about it. Every Z (or 95%) of them I have viewed (about 10) have this issue and I can truly see it. I saw it before I read these forums and was like "what is this?" Well, how can I make this phenomenon not bother me, b/c it seems like it's not constantly being brought up in these forums anymore.
I feel it detracts from my enjoyment such that I want to sell the Z which I just got. Is there a way to unlearn what I've already seen? I guess do you really stop noticing it after time?
I have had my Acer since new (about 2 years), not having any problems with it whatsoever, until recently, when it decided that upon displaying dark (black, grey etc) background it will intermittently flash white vertical lines across the screen.
Since it is out of warranty I have had it looked up by a repair company, which have said it was the screen connection cables that were at fault. That helped the problem for about a month, after which it reappered.
I have repeated the process then - the company replaced the connections, but this time it didn't help at all.
As this is happeneing randomly I am now asking, what could be the casue of such a fault,, if anyone has any idea. If there are any questions I will respond to the best of my knowledge.
I have made a short video that shows exactly what happens [url]
I seem to have a problem as soon as i unplug my charging laptop. It seems to freeze and screen goes into a frenzy of lines and running bars. I have a dell 1545 and its vital .....
I have a M17x R3 laptop since a few years. A few weeks ago I sent it to the shop to have a SSD installed and have Win7 reinstalled (Windows Explorer kept crashing all the time and I wasnt able to format for some reason). When it got back from the shop, I realized a problem that was not there before.
There are 2 horizontal lines, one at the top and one at the bottom of my screen that keep flickering. They dont appear when I'm on the desktop or playing games, only when I have a program running (iTunes, Steam, DivX, etc) in fullscreen.Â
Here are my specs
Alienware M17X R3 Windows 7 64 bit AMD Radeon HDÂ 6870M (I also have Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 in my display drivers. Just noticed that the version for both is 9.3.0) 6GB RAM
Dont know if it has anything to do with this, but when I got my laptop back I tried to install Cataclyst Control Center and it messed up my graphics bad, I could only run 640x480 and the only way to fix this was to uninstall CCC.
