I'm just about to download the new Win 7 RC, but started wondering if I should go 64bit right away?
I'm just going to do a clean install (it's a year since last anyways...) so I'm not upgrading from Vista. I'll be taking backup off-course and making a list of all installed sw so I can easily install them in the new OS.
Anyone done this? Are there any issues? What can I expect? Which drivers wont work?
I have the A15 bios, 4GB mem and will do an upgrade of the processor as well.
I just upgraded the memory in my XPS M1330 to 4GB, so if I choose to I can now go from 32bit to 64bit Vista. It came with 32bit Vista Home Premium, but I have a 64 bit Vista Ultimate upgrade disc. Is it possible to upgrade from 32 bit Vista Home Premium to 64bit Vista Ultimate, or do I have to have a full 64 bit Vista Ultimate disc? And one last thing, is there really a big difference in performance going from 32bit to 64bit? I don't do anything very intensive with it, but if it makes everything seen snappier than.......
I'm having troubles with windows 7 (build 7100 64 bits) and xps 1340. All Vista (64 bits) driver seems to work fine until the notebook wakes up from the sleep or hibernate mode. The Ethernet will not recover at all.
In the Control PanelNetwork and InternetNetwork Connections the Ethernet will display cable unplugged even thought the cable is plugged. It will start functioning correctly after restart. It does indeed bothers me as if i close the notebook it will go to the sleep mode then I open it and the Ethernet connection is lost !
Also I can't get the inbuilt infra-red working. I have installed the driver but can find any software to use it with!
Does anybody know why the option for a webcam is not present on the Precision M6400 64bit configuration page (US)? This seems like a really basic option that should be available on their flagship machine.
I insterted the dvd and boot from it but when after clicking install button, it asks me to insert the drivers cd for my "dvd drive"... and if I dont insert it, it doesnt continue.. Any one wanna to help me?
My dvd drive is sony optiarc 7640s. I searched net, but cant found thd drivers.
I've been looking all over for this specific driver for my laptop. I've downgraded the OS from Vista to XP and everything went fine but, just one more driver that I can't seem to find.
I went to the Dell driver download website and seen only 32bit drivers. So, I took a chance on trying to get the correct for this specific hardware:
I was just wondering if any of you have had any experiance with this. I feel the need to upgrade, as i have 4gb of ram and the ati graphics card, which means on 32bit, i can't use all my ram .....
Now heres just the question my sister's comp was recently replace with a studio xps 13 that was loaded with 8gb of ram now the question is whether i should format and install 32bit into the system or 64bit?
i understand 32bit windows can only use up to 4gb while 64bit windows can utilize over 4gb. It seems that the clear advantage would be using windows 64bit since it has 8gb of ram.
Wondering if anyone has any opinion to this? In using 32bit instead?
I'm all set to order my 1555 except that I'm in two minds whether to get a 32bit or 64bit system.
I want to stay with 32bit coz that what I'm using,(with xp) and it works but want to go for the 64bit coz that's what all systems to moving towards now. I'm aware that the former can only utilise 3.3G RAM(I'm getting 4G with mine) and the potential of the latter is higher with more RAM should I want to upgrade in future.
My questions are:
1) Is there somewhere on the web that I could check if the programs I use now and intend to use the laptop for, are compatible with a 64bit system?
2) I'll be getting the P8600 2.40Ghz, 3MB, 1066MHz with 4G RAM. How much performance difference are we talking about between the two systems?
3) With the free Windows 7 upgrade, will they send ONLY the corresponding upgrade installation dvd? Otherwise, if they were to send both, I can try both out and see for myself.
Though some might not work altogether, I've heard that some 32bit software will run under a 64bit system but on the contrary run even slower? Can anyone confirm this?
If I stick to the 32bit now, and I want to move on to 64bit, will Dell just send me the installation disc?
How do I get I8kfanGUI to work with vista 64bit? im having heat problems and i cleaned and re applied the thermal paste and still my cpu fan dont come on until my cpu is at 74c and that dont take long for it to hit that temp. gpu also is always between 54c to 64c on idle.
Just installed Windows 7 64bit on my inspiron 1420 and its running fine. the only driver i'm having a hard time finding is "base system device" (location: PCI bus 3 device 1, function 3). i have no idea what it is and have no idea where to start looking for it. Dell's driver and suport website has to be one of the worst site ever cuz its soo hard to find anything. so if someone can help or have any idea i kind of need some help. and can someone show me were to get windows 7 64 bit drivers off the dell site? i'm looking to install the touch pad drivers so i can get more of the options and features.
I want to upgrade from vista business 32bit to vista business 64bit or ultimate 64bit...can i use the key i get from business 32 bit on either of these?
and should i upgrade, or uninstall and then install? using a latitude e6400 btw..
I've got brand new Latitude E4300 and I decided to install Win7 64bit in order not to upgrade after I install all my software onto Vista. But I cannot get the LCD backlight control get to work.
In BIOS the settings work well, but in Win7 it does not. e.g. when I set in the BIOS half backlight, it works until I try to change it in Windows - it suddenly jumps to full backlight (I suppose),
but the Dell Controll Point dialog shows some 1/3 or similar. Then I'm able to change it +1 step, but it doesnt make any difference, even turning on and off the ambient light sensor doesnt make difference.
I tred to install several drivers from dell.com, but the support for Win7 64bit isnt very good. So I took some drivers from Vista 64b, and Vista 32b, but it made no difference.
I have an XPS M1710 Core Duo, with an upgraded 7950 GTX GPU which I'm going to be changing to a Quadro 3500M for OpenGL.
If I change the CPU from a T2500(2 GhZ) to a T7600(2.33 GhZ). Will my Mobo run at 64bit or not? My brothers seems to think not, and I'm not sure on this one!.
I've had my covet for arround less than a month now and i've now got serious issues with photoshop cs4 and all the cs4 suite.. like selecting actionscript in flash cs4s actionscript panel.. (major lag)
It must be the graphics drivers, but i have installed all the varieties i have read about on this forum both from nvidia & laptovideo2go to no availe.. after opening a few psd's and trying to move layers around from one to the other (via the tabs etc..) it really starts to become unusable.. it feals like there is a graphics card memeory leak or something, also when i open the nvidia control panel to see what's going on the 3d logo start to stutter when i move my mouse over it continiously...
is anybody else having issue with cs4..?
