Jan 4, 2009

Those of you who have an Intel 5100 Wireless card and the M4400, could someone tell me if you have 3 antenna connectors, even though the 5100 has just 1 antenna?

Acer :: 1810T Installing Intel Wifi Link 5300's Third Antenna

Apr 30, 2010

I want to replace my 1810T's Intel Wifi Link 5100 with an Intel Wifi Link 5300.

The 5100 has two antenna connectors and so the 1810T has two antennas already installed in it.

I purchased a third antenna, but I don't want to disassemble the screen to add the third antenna next to the two stock antennas.

Can I just place the third antenna here (empty area next to mini PCIe slot):

Dell :: Studio 1535 With Intel WiFi Link 5100

Apr 23, 2009

I'm getting myself an Intel WiFi Link 5100 to replace the current Dell 1510N card in my Studio 1535. Is the Intel WiFi Link 5100 fully supported by my laptop?

Are the number of wires same for both cards? Any specific steps that I need to do when replacing the card? This is my first time doing this so I'm a bit nervous.

Sony :: Vaio Z-540 Wireless (Intel 5100 AGN)

Mar 7, 2010

I've been using my Sony Vaio Z-540 without a problem for about a YEAR
until recently (about a month?), my wifi has been acting up.

My wireless card is Intel 5100 AGN

The problems are:
1. Sometimes, I do not get wireless from the startup . my wireless isn't even in the Device Manager...

2. When I do get wireless (Device manager confirmed), wifi connection disappears with even the SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT!

3. When I do lose the wireless driver (no more on the device manager), I put it to sleep, wait 5 seconds, wake up, and my vaio detects it. [but this isn't the case for ALL the time, sometimes I have to restart the vaio]

I thought it was a loose wire or loose card, so I opened it. The wireless card is bolted down with 2 screws. So i put everything back and it still has the SAME issue.

Also, I've updated the Intel 5100 Driver to the latest (When I finally got my Wireless driver seen on the device manager) but still the SAME problem, so I'm back on my OLD driver. still same problem, of course.

when I do have my wifi, my wifi just disappears with the SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT on my laptop. It has to be still...

Ethernet connect, however, works 100%

Sony :: VGN-Z21 And Intel 5100 AGN Drops Under Windows 7

Nov 18, 2009

I have managed to finally resolve my problems with my Windows 7 installation by redoing the upgrade, everything now seems great and all the original drivers/software (FN buttons etc) are working great. So far, Windows 7 looks great!

One problem I'm noticing and I've also found links on Google of other users complaining about the same is that the Intel 5100 AGN wireless seems to drop quite often. This never happened under Vista.

I use IRC quite a lot, and it's so frustrating with my Internet constantly dropping. Other laptops connected to the same AP (NETGEAR WNR2000) do not encounter this. The drops are extremely brief.

Sony :: Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN Driver

Nov 21, 2009

I recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit edition on my Vaio FW490 (upgraded from Vista 64). I received the free upgrade disks from Sony. When I checked my device manager I noticed that the driver version for the WiFi Link 5100 is 11.4.3.9 dated 5/28/09. On the Sony Site, they list the version for Windows 7 as 12.4.1.11 dated 10/8/2009, and when I checked on the Intel site, they are recommending driver version 13.0.0.107 dated 10/21/09.

HP/Compaq :: Is The Intel Wireless 5100 (AGN?) Card Removable Or

Nov 10, 2009

The DV5T seemed to be working pretty well for me and no real wireless issues.

What has happened is that since I upgraded to Windows 7 and the new drivers, I get some hitching, rubberbanding in games, slow speeds at times, etc.

Now I know Windows 7 is pretty rock solid and the new drivers came from the HP site.

But when I started googling, seems TONS of people have issues with the 5100 card and maybe I was just lucky before.

At first I noticed my card speed goes from ~50 MBPS to max of 130 MBPS. After reading, it seems even though my router supports 40ghz dual channel yadda yadda, the card only goes to 2.4 so it can't really run at 40ghz is my understanding and that 130 MBPS is pretty much the cap.

That said, it was that way before the Win 7 upgrade so that shouldn't change anything.

One thing I noticed is that in my device driver before the upgrade, it was a normal 5100 but now with the drivers, I see a 5100 AGN.

I can't find how the AGN and non-AGN versions differ?

Could it be I have AGN drivers for a non-AGN card?

Lastly, is this wireless card removable and upgradable or can I use the slot (empty) that I have for another card and disable the wireless 5100 through BIOS?

Dell :: Slow Wireless Connection: Studio 1555, Intel 5100 Card

Aug 31, 2009

as of 2 hours ago my high speed has been stuck at 1 Mbps, much slower then its usual 65+ that I've had over the last 6 days since I got my laptop.

I'm thinking I may have received a faulty wireless card, since when I checked my wired desktop downstairs it's still at it's usual 100Mbps, and my sisters Inspiron 1420 has its normal high speed.

Now when I restart my wireless adapter (Intel 5100) the speed fluctuates between 4-38 Mbps for about a minute before dropping- and staying at 1 Mbps once again.

I checked if there are any computers stealing my wireless connection just in case, and as I thought no one is .....

Acer :: 1410 & Intel 5100 Wireless Weak Connection

Sep 25, 2009

I'm really trying to like my new Acer 1410. Everything was working great until I tried to connect thru the wifi. Turned out the connection was really weak. This is in my house where all my other laptops have had no problem connecting.

So I try for a couple of hours trying every setting possible on my router and on my laptop settings. Finally, I open up the bottom of my laptop and find out the black wire that goes to the Intel Wireless card isn't even connected! In fact the metal connector itself is missing entirely

So me not knowing much about electronics, I cut off a 2 inch wire (with connector) from my old laptop's wireless card and taped it to the new laptop's open black wire. Plug it in and now the signal is better, but it still sucks. Any advice anyone? I really would rather fix it myself if I can. Would it work better if I solder the two wires together? Or is the Intel 5100 a POS and nothing is going to help it?

Dell :: New Intel Processors For M4400

Jan 8, 2009

I've been following notebookreview's threads for quite some time since I'm planning on replacing my good-old veteran Inspiron 8600 with a Precision M4400, which currently suits my needs best

I was just about to order the laptop from Ireland (which is the cheapest and most secure way of getting the M4400 to where I live at the moment - Bulgaria) but a couple of days ago I saw a piece of news about five new processors - T8700, T9550, T9800, Q9000 and P9600 Processors for the Centrino 2 platform. Now I'm waiting for the P9600 which is a bit faster (2.66 GHz)but most important for me is that it has a lower TDP rating than what I initially planned to order - T9400. I travel a lot so battery life and power drain are important for me.

Does anyone have information if the M4400 will have a P9600 option in the nearest future so that I wait a bit more? I remember that some time ago the P9500 was available within the M4400 configurator but then Dell misteriously discontinued offering it

It is also romoured that Intel will reveal the new i7 mobile processor versions soon which makes me think it all over again and maybe wait a bit more. My only doubts are that the mobile i7s would have a higher TDP which will eat up the battery in no time

Dell :: M4400 Upgrade To Intel P9700 CPU

Oct 26, 2009

I just wanted to let everyone know that it works and doesn't require an OS re-install like the Yonah-Merom upgrade did on my Toshiba.

The P9700 is ideal because it consumes 28 watts, but operates at 2.8 GHz and has 6 MB of L2 Cache. The T series, which tops off with the T9900 is only marginally faster and consumes 35 watts. The rest of the P series consumes 25 watts.

Consequently, I found the P9700 to be the best performance/power usage ratio for this laptop/platform. Currently it is only available through OEMs as a configuration option on a few Sony Vaio laptops.

Dell :: M4400: Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN Failure

Aug 27, 2009

This has been happening a for a couple weeks now.

Problem:

Every time I boot up the computer and switch on the WiFi/Bluetooth button on the right side - only the Bluetooth light turns on above the keyboard.

Temporary Solution:

I go to Device Manager and find that the "Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN" slot has the exclamation sign next to it so I disable the card and then reenable it again, then the problem is gone (the WiFi light turns on and I can now finally see wireless networks in the "Connect" window) .....

Dell :: Are All Laptop LCD Connectors The Same?

Quick background: at work there's a place where people dump old/broken computer stuff for disposal. I have already picked up a fully working P4 desktop (no monitor of course) in the past.

Today I found an LCD panel with serial number ITSX95L2 and a quick Google search shows that it's made by IDTech (their logo is also found on the back of the panel) and that it's used in some old Dell Inspiron models.

I want to test whether this LCD is still functional so that I may sell it on eBay or do some DIY project with it .....
